You thought getting into the computer science major would be the hardest part.
Beating out a 71% application rate had to mean something.
Surviving weed-out courses, crafting a personal statement that didn’t make you sound like every other overachiever who taught their grandparent how to restart a computer— that was supposed to be your final boss.
Wrong.
Apparently, the game’s just beginning.
Because it’s Week 1 and there’s already a test. Not even a quiz, a full-blown exam worth 15% of your grade.
Not a quiz. A test. The syllabus had said something vague about "assessment checkpoints," but you hadn't realized they'd be checking if you were built for this within the first five days of class.
The professor just breezes through the rest of the syllabus like it’s Terms and Conditions, casually mentioning that attendance points will also be cumulative and mandatory.
Like it was a fun little bonus. Like it wasn’t about to completely derail your mental health.
You are, in every definition of the word, cooked.
Especially since you, in your infinite optimism, decided to skip linear algebra and now he’s name-dropping matrix multiplication like you’re all old friends.
Which, sure, is a prereq— but you thought you could squeeze it in next quarter. Because you thought, “How bad could it be?”
So now you're here, sitting in the second row with your laptop open, staring blankly at the slides you’ve written meticulous notes about, trying to decode phrases like "eigenvector interpretation" while suppressing the urge to scream.
Long story short: you’re fucked.
But you can’t drop. Not when you clawed your way in. Not when you’ve already fantasized about the stupid little LinkedIn post you'll write when you graduate.
You wanted this. This major, this future— you chose it. So now you get to suffer for it.
So instead of clicking “Unenroll,” you find yourself at the campus convenience store at 12:03AM, hoping a Celsius will give you the will to survive reviewing the sheer number of questions you got wrong on that first quiz.
You don’t expect anyone else to be there this late, except maybe the sad grad students.
But while you’re squinting at the flavors, someone rounds the corner of the aisle. There’s the low rumble of skateboard wheels and the crinkle of plastic as he picks up a Red Bull. He’s tall, broad-shouldered, wearing a worn black hoodie and plaid pajama pants like it’s a uniform. And he's—
He’s cute.
Boyish, really. His hair’s a little messy, his under-eye bags dramatic and kind of adorable, and you can’t help but admire how youthful he looks for someone also up past midnight.
You’re not in the mood to crush, not when you’re running on 3 hours of sleep and academic shame, but… God. His eye bags are really cute.
You try not to stare.
You also try not to fall asleep standing up, but your body is fighting you on all fronts. When you move toward the counter to check out, your foot catches on the edge of the aisle carpet.
You stumble forward.
And suddenly, someone’s hand is on your elbow— steady, warm. Holding you up.
You meet his gaze, honey brown eyes, amused and warm.
"Be careful, yeah?"
You mumble a thanks and practically flee to the self-checkout, embarrassed beyond belief. You don’t look back.
The next day, you drag yourself to your professor’s office hours. You’re so tired your vision blurs a little. You’d spent the whole night trying to understand where you went wrong— how you could have possibly missed that many questions on the quiz.
You’re five minutes early. The office is quiet except for the hum of a desk fan. There’s someone already there.
You freeze.
It’s him.
Red Bull guy. Skateboard guy. “Be careful” guy.
He’s sitting across from the professor, leaning over the desk with a notebook open and pen in hand, looking deeply focused. His hoodie’s different today, but just as lived-in.
How the hell did you not notice him in class?
You convince yourself he must be from a different section. You would’ve noticed someone like that, right? The bone structure? You definitely would’ve noticed.
You also assume he’s a TA or grader or something. He just looks so comfortable in here, like he knows what he’s doing. Probably here to help debug someone's recursion disaster.
Until—
“I just don’t get how I got the lowest score,” he mutters, rubbing the back of his neck. “Like, I thought I did alright, but when I checked Canvas it said 35 out of 100. That’s... beyond terrible.”
Your jaw drops.
Thirty-five?
You’re not even sure if that’s comforting or depressing, and nearly choke on your own breath.
You’re not sure if you want to laugh or cry.
On one hand: thank God you’re not the only one struggling. On the other: there’s someone who actually did worse than you
You take a hesitant seat next to him. His gaze flicks toward you.
It takes a second, but he recognizes you too. “Yo,” he says, like you didn’t almost faceplant in front of him nine hours ago.
You blink. “Hi.”
And just like that, you’re no longer alone in your academic downfall.
Because after office hours, just as you’re packing up your laptop with a sense of mild defeat, Ino clears his throat beside you.
“You wanna come study with my tutor?” he asks, eyes hopeful but tired. “Nanami. Took the class last year, has a file of all the assignments. And he interned for Riot Games over the summer, so he actually knows his shit.”
You blink, surprised. “You have a tutor?”
He shrugs, the corner of his mouth twitching in a sheepish grin. “I mean… tutor might be a strong word. More like a friend who’s already survived this mess and doesn’t mind explaining it to the rest of us.”
You hesitate for a moment, but honestly, you really need help, and the idea of learning from someone who’s already been through this feels like a lifeline.
“Okay,” you say, finally giving in. “I’ll come. Riot intern, huh? That’s pretty cool— you actually know someone like that?”
“Yeah, we used to skate together all the time when we were younger. Then we both ended up interning at Riot. He did backend dev, and I was doing data science for Valorant.”
He shrugs, flicking a loose strand of hair behind his ear. “Not that I play PC anymore— too busy trying not to fail this class, honestly.”
His grin turns sheepish but still has that effortless cool that makes you smile back without even trying.
You step out together into the crisp evening air. The campus is quiet, lights flickering on the pavement as students scurry past or lounge on benches, headphones on, notebooks out.
He doesn’t rush like you expect. Instead, Ino slows his pace to match your tired steps. You notice he’s watching you carefully, adjusting his stride so you don’t have to sprint just to keep up.
The gesture is small but feels... considerate. Like he’s already looking out for you, even though you barely know each other.
The walk to the undergrad library takes about ten minutes. Ino casually talks about how he’s been skating since middle school and how he prefers skating at night because the cool breeze helps him relax. When you mention you’ve never learned to skateboard, he laughs and teases that you’d probably be the type to rent a Lime scooter instead.
The library’s glass doors slide open smoothly. Inside, the quiet hum of fluorescent lights and the soft tapping of keyboards greet you. It’s comforting, familiar.
You both find a table tucked in a corner, away from the main clusters of students.
“Here’s the plan,” Ino says, pulling out his laptop. “We wait for Nanami to finish his lecture downstairs, and in the meantime, we try to finish as much of the homework as we can before he gets here to review it.”
You nod, setting up your laptop. You try to start on the first problem, the one about recursion, but your brain immediately threatens to shut down.
Ino leans over your screen, pointing at your code. “You named that variable ‘ballerinaCappuccina’? Dude, what?”
You laugh despite yourself. “More memorable than ‘x’ or ‘temp’, okay?”
He snickers, shaking his head. “You're so brainrot.”
Time slips by as you swap dumb jokes and lament the professor’s cryptic hints. You find yourself relaxing, your earlier dread melting into something softer.
Then the door opens again, and Nanami steps in.
He moves with an easy confidence, glasses sliding down his nose, hair a little tousled but neat. His tee sports a pixelated game logo you recognize, and he’s carrying a backpack that looks surprisingly clean for a CS major.
You glance up, surprised by how different he is from Ino.
If Ino’s energy was all skater-boy charm and casual cool, Nanami's would be hot, slightly nerdy, and intensely focused— like someone who clearly spent all night grinding out code but still somehow looks handsomely tired in the morning.
You catch your breath for a moment.
Cute, you think. Definitely cute.
Ino waves him over. “Yo, Nanami! This is my study buddy— also failing this class with me.”
Nanami gives a small smile as he slides into the seat next to Ino. “Ino, try not to embarrass yourself. It’s not that hopeless— yet.”
With a calm confidence, he starts breaking down the first week's concepts— functions, APIs, database calls— with a precision and clarity that almost makes you think you could pass this class if you had him as your professor.
You and Ino trade notes, nodding along, asking questions, laughing when Nanami mocks the actual professor’s habit of using vague buzzwords.
Between explanations, Nanami looks at you briefly and says, “You’re doing better than most first-timers. Keep at it.”
You feel a warmth spread through your chest.
Hours pass, the late-night study session stretching into the early morning. The three of you share snacks from Ino’s backpack— a sad assortment of Takis, a couple of peach ring gummies, and a can of Red Bull you suspect was bought last night at the convenience store.
You realize, with a little startle, that this is the first time you’ve felt truly at ease since the quarter began.
The three of you fall into a rhythm— Ino’s lighthearted jokes, Nanami's steady patience, and your stubborn determination.
The future still looks impossible.
But for now, with these two by your side, it feels a little less like you’re totally cooked.

Alright. I'm making this post because I was unpleasantly surprised to find Microsoft had forcibly downloaded an """"ai assistant"""" onto my computer (called Copilot), and because finding a site that actually told me how to kill it for good -- in clear, truly step-by-step terms -- was way harder than it needed to be.
Preface: this is only relevant if you're running Windows 11.
Here is your target:

If you see this logo on your taskbar -- or... have Edge installed on Windows 11 -- you've got Copilot. You can't delete it on its own, Microsoft has integrated it into the OS as best they can. The most you can do is disable it (instructions for which are at the very end of this post).
So... to REALLY get rid of it you need to uninstall Microsoft Edge, because it's a part of/reliant on Edge. A lot of bells and whistles of Windows are also reliant on Edge, like widgets, but I never use those. I use my PC almost exclusively for gaming, and I don't want this slimy "ai" shit on my computer. I use Firefox anyway. Edge can go die as far as I'm concerned.
Here's the actual steps, copy-pasted from a website that took me way too long to find. It also really makes my browser chug for some reason, which is why I'm copy-pasting the whole thing. If you still want to look at the site itself, put it in reader view as fast as you can (link to site).
1.) Open Microsoft Edge, type "edge://settings/help" in the address bar, and then press Enter.
2.) Click "About Microsoft Edge" at the bottom of the left-hand pane. Copy the version number at the top of the screen, under Microsoft Edge.

3.) Press Windows Key + S to open Windows Search.
4.) Type "Command Prompt", right-click the result, and then select "Run as Administrator".

5.) The User Account Control (UAC) prompt will appear. Click "Yes".
6.) Navigate to Edge’s “Installer” directory by using the cd command. Depending on which directory your Command Prompt opens in by default, you may need to use the "cd .." command to go back a level or two.
Once ready, run this command:
cd “Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\Version Number\Installer”
Replace "Version Number" with your actual version number copied earlier.

7.) Next, run this command to uninstall Microsoft Edge:
setup –uninstall –force-uninstall –system-level

((It will look like nothing happened! Don't worry!))
8.) Restart your PC for the changes to take place.
((HOWEVER, Windows will try to reinstall it the next time your PC updates (or whenever it feels like it lol) so there's a second half to this))
1.) Press Windows Key + R to open Run.
2.) Type "regedit" in the text box and click OK to open the Registry Editor.

3.) The User Account Control (UAC) prompt will appear. Click "Yes".
4.) In the Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES\SOFTWARE\Microsoft.
5.) Right-click the "Microsoft" folder, hover your cursor over "New", and then select "Key".

6.) Rename the new Key to "EdgeUpdate".
7.) Right-click EdgeUpdate, hover your cursor over "New", and then select "DWORD (32-bit) Value".

8.) Right-click the new value, which is currently named "New Value #1".
9.) Select "Rename" from the context menu.

10.) Rename the value to "DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium".
11.) Right-click the newly-named DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium value and select "Modify" from the context menu.
12.) The Edit DWORD (32-bit) Value window will appear. Change the Value data to "1" and then click OK.

((You are now free. If you ever run into a really serious, unavoidable issue with your OS that's clearly a result of Edge being gone, you can redownload it like a regular app. But you should be fine.))
((And, if for some reason you want still want Edge around but just want the copilot thing gone, here's what you do:
The command, for ease of copy-pasting: reg add HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsCopilot /v TurnOffWindowsCopilot /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
You can't actually truly delete Copilot (without deleting Edge), only disable it. And as the reply says, you do have to do this every time you turn the computer on. I haven't tested that myself, but I believe it. I assume/hope that excludes just waking the computer up after it goes to sleep, but I don't know for sure.))

There were a lot of things, Felicity Faustus mused, that had led up to standing in line to buy a bus ticket at three o'clock in the morning.
Like a decade and change spent trying to make it in broadcast media, but never actually going anywhere because they "weren't camera-friendly enough."
Like struggling to stay afloat as rent and bills continued to rise, while they were denied raises time and time again even as less-experienced coworkers advanced ahead of them and their other job applications continued to go unanswered.
Felicity had always been a scrapper - it had gotten them into trouble more times than they could count as a kid - but as the months crept by, they felt the fight leaving them as the proverbial water closed over their head.
They would have been lying if they'd tried to say that they hadn't been tempted to end it all more than a few times. The means to their end were plentiful, and it would have been easy to pick one and make use of it.
They'd just never been able to work up the guts necessary to do it.
Instead, they'd aimlessly gone looking for solace in their favorite cult game show, even as they sank deeper and deeper into despair. But cartoons and livestreamed events weren't much of a life preserver when the rest of their life was falling apart around them.
But then, just as they were teetering on the literal razor's edge, the semi-regular announcement was made that Finding Frankie was looking for another batch of contestants.
Four tapes. Four boxes of cereal.
And maybe, just maybe, Felicity had cracked, just a little bit.
In a fit of mad desperation, they'd run up their last remaining credit card buying cart loads of cereal and then, once that had maxed out, resorted to shoplifting even more cereal than they would ever be able to eat. They were pretty sure that they were on some kind of list for that.
They'd only had to open one, though. Just one, to make sure there was nothing hidden at the bottom. After that point, their kitchen scale had been their best friend, looking for one box that weighed a few ounces more than the rest.
The laser-focused obsession had paid off, after four whole months of diligent (obsessive) searching, when they'd finally scored that coveted VHS tape - and their ticket out of this hole in the wall.
(It had paid off for their neighbors, too. All the unopened boxes got dumped in the run-down "community room" of their slummy little apartment building, and they were always gone by the next afternoon.)
They'd spent half of a breathless, sleepless night tossing and turning after that, their heart hammering like thunder in their ears, before ultimately deciding that it didn't make sense to wait.
(It didn't matter that the show wouldn't be airing for another week, and they had plenty of time. Nothing mattered anymore, why should time?)
They'd rolled out of bed, taken a quick, cold shower and gotten dressed, then stuffed their wallet and cell phone into their thigh bag and their Swiss Army knife into their binder, grabbed their jacket, and hurried downstairs to catch a bus to the Port Authority terminal.
"What can I help you with?" The woman behind the counter sounded as exhausted as she looked.
"Can you tell me when the next bus to Dallas leaves?"
The woman stifled a yawn and turned her attention to her computer monitor, tapping away on the keyboard and squinting at the information that her query brought up. "…Eight-thirty A.M. There are only three seats left, did you want to reserve one?"
"Yes, please."
More tapping, more squinting; maybe she needed to schedule an eye exam, Felicity thought to themself.
"That'll be… Four hundred and sixty dollars and seventy-seven cents."
This time, they had to stifle a groan, fishing their wallet out and handing over their debit card.
It was going to use up most of the pitiful little emergency fund they had left in their checking account, but it didn't matter. None of it mattered anymore - not the money, not the debt, not the job or the apartment or anything. Either they were going to win, and the prize money would make everything right again, or they were going to die, and none of their problems would be their problem anymore.
"Credit or debit?"
"Debit."
More tapping; it felt incessant now.
And then there were signatures to be signed, scrawled barely-legible onto the little OLED tablet screen.
And then the ticket was in their hand.
And, just for a moment, the weight of the world lifted off of their shoulders.

so it's come to my attention that a lot of people just don't know how to optimize their computer experience - whether they're scared of screwing things up irreparably or just unaware the options exist! I work in tech support so here are my basics (mainly Windows):
you got a new computer: great! first thing you're gonna do is look at your pre-installed programs to remove or replace
norton antivirus - replace: this is technically speaking an antivirus but in my experience it's utterly useless in doing anything except popping up at inconvenient times and blocking you from downloading other antivirus applications (I personally tend to refer to it as preinstalled malware), uninstall it and replace it with avast antivirus
microsoft edge/internet explorer - replace: you can't delete this one without going into regedit but you CAN turn it off in the control panel via "turn Windows features on or off" microsoft edge and internet explorer both are notoriously slow and very very good at attracting malware and viruses, I suggest replacing this one with firefox (when it asks, click the button that makes firefox or whatever you choose your default browser)
cortana/copilot or other ai assistant - remove: this one is trickier and requires going into regedit to remove entirely but they are preinstalled spyware so here is a link to steps on how to disable these
in addition to removing and replacing the above listed I also suggest installing ccleaner to ensure your computer doesn't get cluttered with temporary files and runs more smoothly

saruhiko is attacked by a strain that makes him invisible, he uses this as an excuse to torment yata
Fushimi would definitely find teasing Yata to be a fun application of his new power. Imagine this pre-S1, he was out hunting a Strain on his own and gets attacked. The Strain manages to escape and Fushimi decides to go back to headquarters for now to compile the intel he gathered while out and get the paperwork done while he decides his next move. As he’s on his way back though he finds himself dealing with a lot of annoyances, people keep bumping into him on the sidewalk and then look spooked afterward, and when he gets tired of that and tries to call a taxi they all just drive by. By the time he gets back to S4 he’s tired and more irritable than usual, sitting down to write his report. Doumyouji suddenly screams, Fushimi clicks his tongue as Hidaka asks what’s wrong. Doumyouji says there’s a ghost at Fushimi-san’s desk, the computer turned on by itself and the keyboard started typing on its own. Fushimi clicks his tongue again and is about to ask what idiocy Doumyouji’s talking about when Hidaka’s like wait did I just hear a tongue click. Doumyouji thinks it’s the ghost of Fushimi and Hidaka’s like but he’s still alive, Doumyouji thinks maybe Fushimi was so mad about the last report that he created a ghost out of his anger that’s going to haunt them all by making them rewrite all their reports.
Fushimi realizes something weird must be going on by now and decides to go over the info in his PDA alone, reading about the odd ‘disappearances’ caused by the Strain and figures out that this Strain must have invisibility powers. He’s actually not upset about this either, figuring this is one way to get his annoying subordinates to stop bothering him (imagine Munakata walking by and Fushimi freezes, the squad all run up to him to tell him about the ghost and he keeps telling them not to worry while looking vaguely in Fushimi’s direction. Fushimi mutters ‘creepy’ under his breath and decides to take his leave for now). Since he’s invisible Fushimi figures this would be handy for completing his mission, he can gather information and no one can see him, so he heads back out on his own.
Of course he’s barely away from S4 when he encounters Yata, and Fushimi absolutely can’t resist the urge to bother Misaki. Imagine he throws a knife to knock Yata off his skateboard, Yata goes flying and then looks up to see what he hit but all the knives that were on Fushimi’s person when he got hit by the Strain are also invisible so he doesn’t see anything. Yata’s like ‘huh, that’s weird’ and goes to pick up his fallen skateboard. As he’s about to touch it something kicks it just out of his reach. Yata’s all okay what the hell and reaches for the skateboard again, once again it moves just out of his reach. Yata pauses and then dives for it, the skateboard rolls back the other way. Yata’s like what the fuck is going on and suddenly his beanie to yanked off his head. Yata turns to yell at whoever pulled his hat off and suddenly sees his hat seemingly floating in the air. Yata starts stuttering out ‘a g-g-ghost’ and the hat is thrown right in his face. He grabs it and his skateboard and dashes off, terrified, while Fushimi stands there with his hand over his mouth trying to stop himself from laughing too hard.
He decides to follow Yata to Bar Homra, where Yata is telling Kusanagi and the others about the ‘ghost’ that attacked him. Kusanagi wonders if maybe it was a Strain of some kind, Yata’s like no way it had to be a ghost nothing was there. Fushimi is standing just outside and imagine Mikoto sitting up and looking out the window with Anna next to him. Kusanagi asks if something’s wrong and Mikoto says ‘nothing’ while Fushimi sits a little lower and quietly clicks his tongue. Yata’s still on edge so Kusanagi suggests he go home and rest a bit, Yata’s like yeah maybe that’s a good idea. Of course the ‘ghost’ has to follow, Mikoto is watching them leave and Anna says it should be fine, Mikoto shrugs in reply and Totsuka wonders if King and Anna saw something interesting that the rest of them couldn’t.
Yata gets home and is like maybe I’ll rest a bit, yeah, just lay down on the couch for a while. As soon as he does though Fushimi decides to tie his shoelaces together, and then goes to see what else he can move around to tease Misaki. Imagine he’s having fun like moving everything in the kitchen half an inch to the left and putting eggs in Yata’s bed, thinking it will be fun to see Yata start flailing once he wakes up. Fushimi opens Yata’s closet planning to rearrange all his clothes but then imagine in the back of the closet he finds this box. Fushimi snickers all oh my Misaki, to think a virgin has a secret stash, he’s definitely going to scatter this all around the apartment. When he opens it though inside is what little Fushimi left in their old apartment before he went to S4, a handful of clothes and personal items, and Fushimi’s face twists. He ends up shoving the box back in the closet and decides he has work to do, he can’t waste all this time dealing with useless things. As he’s leaving he stops just briefly, looking down at Yata’s sleeping face, and then mutters ‘stupid’ and leaves, letting the door slam behind him. (Yata, having missed all this angst, sits bolt upright, tries to get off the couch and promptly face plants on the floor because his shoes were tied together.)
