This episode actually had an unusual amount of anime-original content in it, with a number of other Mendo family member appearing. This entire sequence with baby Ryoko was original and I think it captures the characters well (though I doubt baby Mendo would dread walking all his beloved octopuses). As you can see, in the original sequence, baby Mendo just pulls the octopus out of nowhere rather than get one from a body of water he was pushed into. Also, per the sensitivity rewrite mentioned before, Ryunosuke's punch is transformed into a manzai fan strike (this fan is called a harisen). I do like that in the original, Ataru always basically slapped Mendo upside the head but Ryunosuke's tough love has always been fists. Oh and Ryunosuke's sweater did have the character for Ryu on her shirt, you just can't see it in these panels.

This is 'ほんの少しの勇気 (Just a little courage)' by HIRO, the opening theme for the SEGA CD game, 'Urusei Yatsura: Dear My Friends (1994)'.

You've probably seen gifs from this opening (heck, I've even made my own gifset from this) but I don't think many people have seen the actual thing, so I decided to post it since it's incredibly cute.
