ALWAYS VEILED 👁️ | C++ Game PROTOTYPE 🎮 | Happy Birthday Tribute to THE RING & THE OMEN ⚡ | From VIEIRA VORTEX 💖

youtube
🎮 Always Veiled — a heartfelt prototype (version v18.05.1982) from Vieira Vortex, created with love for someone very special (who we’re, uh, a bit shy to name 😉). While we're not sure she’ll ever see it, we can't help but hope for a little miracle — maybe just a glimpse of attention from her. 🌟
This prototype, inspired by classics like The Ring 🎬 and The Omen 👻, is just the beginning. It's far from the final vision, which will lean more into psychological horror in the style of Silent Hill 🏚️. For now, it’s lighthearted and simple, with whimsical graphics and a calming pace — though there’s just enough eerie mystery to keep you curious 😌👀.
And here’s something you might not expect: Always Veiled isn’t built on some pre-made engine. Nope, it’s all made from scratch using C++ and SFML. Sounds boring to some, but to programmers, it’s a small triumph of coding and dedication 🖥️🔥. It’s not a flashy engine—just raw code, custom-made to bring this world to life, and that’s part of what makes it special. (We know, it’s a bit geeky, but we’re proud of it!) 😏
We hope this prototype will one day reach the one it's meant for, though we know the chances are slim… but hey, miracles happen, right? ✨
The source code is available on GitHub, so if you're a fellow coder or just curious about how it all came together, take a peek! 🖥️🔍
More info at: alwaysveiled.fandom.com
This is just the beginning… and if it happens to catch the attention of the one it's dedicated to, well, that would be our miracle. 💫💖
Oh, and don’t get too comfy thinking this will stay 2D forever — the final game will be much more than this humble prototype, with a deeper, more immersive experience! 👀✨

Autophagia - 1st Year Project
This is so nostalgic! My first game ever!
A simple platform game project made with C++ in SFML, with a framework provided by Abertay University.
Pixel art and programming were done by me, animations were done by my partner, and BGM was taken from the game .flow by lolrust.
The concept is simple: a macrophage or defense cell hunting down prey pathogen with bullets while having to avoid stronger pathogens that can deplete its HP.
Disclaimer: Commercial use completely prohibited, as it's a university project.
Fun fact: I'm bad at playing games, especially my own ones.

I'll let you folks know how that goes.

Even the simplest of tasks in coding are Herculean if you’re using anything but Python.
Just kidding. Sometimes it’s Herculean in Python, too.
#Many months ago I installed SFML so I could display some things#Now I want to take my VS solution and turn it into an exe file#And now I gotta install SFML all over again and apparently this “vcpkg” thing doesn’t let me install it from the command prompt#Despite VS giving me a line to copy to the command prompt#So now I gotta edit vcpkg.json but I don’t know what name to use to add SFML there#And now StackExchange from 10 years ago is telling me with patience to use CMake because it’s “easy”#I just wanted to click three buttons not fifty#coding runnerpost

I really want a Murder Drones boomer shooter
ok so I've mentioned before that I play Doom, and it's my hope to one day make a boomer shooter similar to modern Doom set in the Murder Drones universe. I started learning SFML for this purpose recently, but being a university student takes a lot of time and graphics programming is hard to learn (even OpenGL, which is the "easier" of the graphics APIs :3).
However, in an effort to "ghost of done" this one, I'm going to post some various thoughts I had about what I'd like to see in a Murder Drones boomer shooter. This was inspired by a post I saw that was the Doom cover but redrawn completely with various worker drones and disassembly drones populating the area around Doomguy, who was replaced by Khan. The word "Doom" was humorously replaced with the word "Door" and was stylized in the same way as the Doom logo typically is. I believe the art was made by Animate-a-thing
So, okay, I had two ideas, one of which is exceedingly far from canon and probably deserves its own post because it falls firmly into the realm of "fanfiction" rather than being a natural/reasonable continuation to the story that Liam told. So I'll talk about the other one here, which stems from an idea on Reddit that I had seen (that doesn't seem to exist anymore? I couldn't find it, at the least).
The actual idea lol
Okay, so, picture this: Some time post ep8, the Solver is reawakening in Uzi and is beginning to take control again. Not only that, it's begun to spread (somehow) to other Worker Drones. Now, the Solver has an incredibly powerful Uzi and an army of Worker Drones on its side. Moreover, N is in denial. He believes that there must be some way to free Uzi from the Solver, so, of his own free will, he chooses to defend and support Uzi even though he is capable of singlehandedly solving this conflict.
The only Worker Drone who can put an end to this madness is Khan Doorman. His engineering prowess gave him the ability to construct a number of guns, including an improved railgun that can shoot more than once before needing to recharge. He also created some personal equipment that allow him to jump much higher into the air and dash at incredible speeds. It's up to him to fight through the hordes of corrupted Worker Drones (and maybe even some Disassembly Drones?) that the Solver has set up.
I like this because Khan being an engineer makes this idea make a lot of sense flavorwise. I also think it could be interesting mechanically. For example, if you have to fight some Disassembly Drones, since, in the show, they have the ability to heal themselves (unless they get too damaged, in which case they Solver), that could be represented in game mechanically as "If a Disassembly Drone goes too long without taking damage, it will begin to heal over time. So, keep attacking it and don't take your attention away from it to ensure it can't heal, or use a railgun shot to defeat it instantly." I think this setting allows the story to compliment the gameplay really nicely.

I've been working on a little time trial platformer inspired by Sonic, N++ and Hoverburger. Getting back to my roots and writing my own engine in C++ using SFML.
Currently titled The Indomitable Rocket Dog!
Last night I brought it out to Wonderville in Brooklyn for their playtest night. It's the first time the game has been shown publicly.

I've been following your advice for the past few days, and I must say, I'm already makin' windows with SDL2 B). Admittedly though, I am using C++ because that's what all the tutorials are in, but after learning the basics of C I'm actually able to smoothly transition into C++ for the time being! Anyways, thanks again for the advice!
WOOOO SDL SUPREMECY Although if you're using C++ honestly give SFML a try, I think it's better designed/easier to use + better documented than SDL + more features. I actually learned C++ as my first real language (that wasn't a scripting lang for a game engine), but really and truly C is way easier. C++ is a mess once you get more in the weeds with it. I'm hella glad my advice has been helping you out, best of luck and have fun!

This is the tutorial that I followed! Note that the end result is not the same as the thumbnail. Also note that this is part 3, the final part of a series, but that there's also a prequel series for getting used to SFML. I would just check out the entire channel, he doesn't have that many videos.
