❛ i’m a lost soul maybe — i don’t feel at all like i ought to feel. ❜ ——— @yunhuntress
It was an honesty of unexpected circumspection, against the profundity of which Hua Xiangyi was unprepared. Women in her circles dared not speak with such candor. They would not. And could not.
But this Oerba Yun Fang, with her unbound hair and her unusual style of dress and her straightforward manner of speaking—it was difficult for Hua Xiangyi to believe that such a person who appeared so rich with a freedom that she feared she might never know felt … not like she ought to.
In spite of herself, Hua Xiangyi laughed, covering her insouciant smile with the back of her hand. “I’m sorry,” she apologized, still laughing as her glittering eyes begged forgiveness. “I was struck with a very despairing thought. But if you, in all your splendor and all your boldness, cannot feel as you ought to, what hope is there for someone like me?”
Her laughing fit now passed, the remainder of which was a smile as benevolent as a sunny sky. It was with this smile that Hua Xiangyi leaned in close to lay her hand upon Fang’s. “I think, perhaps, it is a condition of living in which we are not as free as we might wish to be. And perhaps it can serve as an affirmation of what and who we are, when we feel as though we are not how we ought to be.” She grinned almost wickedly at such a ridiculous reach of a navel-gazing pretense of anthroposophy. “Something like that.”
