Query about a book in the SP novel series

Hi fans - I have got a copy of the Grimoire. But I might be a bit behind on recent novels (have read the first 13 or 14 books + the Tanith Low one). What novels in the series should I definitely read before reading the Grimoire?

Remember how bitter I got that they commissioned Todor Hristov (the grimoire comic artist) to draw the archivists, characters pretty much no one cares about, while the actual important characters all got juvenile drawings that were very clearly aimed at children?

When you first brought Hyunjin home, he spent a long time looking through all your crystals. He was interested to learn what they were, but he didn’t really care about the spiritual properties. Our boy just likes pretty things ok TT

Even years later he still loves going into crystal shops and apothecaries to see the handmade jewelry and other trinkets. He 100% thinks it’s so cottagecore. He takes candid polaroids of you while you’re meditating or walking around your favorite metaphysical shop because he thinks you’re so beautiful when you’re in your happy place, and your devotion to it is attractive to him. Hyunjin really likes candle spells because he says they’re romantic. He asked you once as a joke if you put a love spell on him and you said yes. He didn’t realize you were kidding at first and had to contemplate his life for a second.

Han is always happy to talk about the things you love. He likes the surface level stuff like crystals and meditation/manifesting, and even some spell work, but do not show this man any type of divination because he will be terrified. You once pulled out your pendulum to ask it a question, and as soon as it started swinging he was ready to call a priest. He’d probably take a lot of convincing to let you read his tarot cards. He has a lot of anxiety about the future as it is, and he also doesn’t understand how a deck of cards could possibly know him that well.

Supportive boyfriend award goes to Felix on this one. He wants to know anything and everything, will ask to look at your grimoire, wants you to read his tarot cards literally all the time.

“Y/N, I don’t know what i wanna eat for dinner, can you ask your cards what i should have?”

He absolutely love’s apothecaries and metaphysical shops because he says they feel happy inside. You ignited such a love for incense in him, when you guys go out he always smells like smokey vanilla and it’s great.

Chan Is an old soul. If he hasn’t already delved into spirituality himself, he’s the most likely to become spiritual when he starts dating you. He’s very respectful and mature about it, and knows not to touch anything on your altar. Chan also loves to meditate with you in the mornings. You told him once that you felt a connection with the moon, and since then he always sends you photos of the moon when it looks pretty. 110% he wants to get high with you and talk about your ideas on the afterlife and the multiverse. Tarot readings help ease his mind when making tough decisions, so every now and then, the two of you will sit down with a glass of wine and do a reading.

Changbin doesn’t believe in it at first. He thinks tarot readings and divination is an act, and he’s definitely the type to ask the typical “well how do you explain __” questions. Then the day you gave him a really detailed tarot reading and the situation played out exactly as the cards said it would the following week, he started to realize it was very real. He’s really interested in divination because it challenges his logical brain. He likes looking at the forged weapons at your local metaphysical supply shop, and is secretly dying to play with the Tibetan singing bowls.

For Minho, he likes candle spells, but not for the same reason hyunjin likes them. He thinks they feel powerful when you do them, and that’s the thing he likes most about your practice. Wants to learn about hexing. He likes the comfort in your protection spells, and he thinks money and luck spells are really cool. He once watched you do a money spell and then find a $100 bill in your coat pocket, and he was sold immediately. Tries to manifest really random things into happening like finding stray cats to pet when he goes on walks.

Seungmin is so attentive with you, and he’s supportive boyfriend number three out of the group. He’ll ask you questions all timidly because he doesn’t wanna accidentally offend you or sound dumb when he doesn’t know something. He also frequently brings home cool rocks he finds for you because he knows you like them. Seungmin likes that you’re grounded and connected to the earth, and really loves going on nature walks to forage with you.

Jeongin is confused. But he’s also easily impressed by everything you do. The first time he sees you open a circle before doing a spell, he’s so hype.

“WOW NOONA THAT IS SO COOL, but also what is it?”

He acts like you’re doing a magic trick when you’re reading his cards. Will literally give you a round of applause when something you say resonates with him. He’s also the type to want to touch and play with literally everything in the apothecary. Once, he accidentally put his candy wrapper on your altar without thinking and was paranoid for like a month after.

Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Nuzlocke

This is my first time trying a EO Challange Run. I kinda just wanna see how long it will last, and document my journey.

Ruleset:

Game will be played on Expert Difficulty, Classic Mode.

Only 1 character of each class will be created at the start of the game.

All character’s levels must be kept below the cap for each stratum.

The level cap for each stratum 3x the last floor of the stratum. (15 for 1st stratum, 30 for 2nd, etc).

Once a character dies in combat, they must be released from the guild; if the whole party is defeated/a game over is reached, all 5 characters must be released. Ressucitate, Revive and other revival skills are not allowed.

All characters get a second “life” after a game over during a boss battle, only once per boss per character.

Floor jump not allowed. Ariadne Thread is allowed.

May only reassign SP after defeating a Stratum Boss.

Grimoires are allowed.

Medica, Amrita and other healing itens are allowed.

BUYING Nectar is not allowed. Using it is.

The Plan

For exploration, a Survivalist is a must have. With a ruleset like this, surprise attacks could and will be fatal. Risk Perception and Stalker are needed as fast as possible. Keeping a Protector with Flee could also be useful for random encounters, especially early on, tho both of those can be taken out with Grimoires later.

For the first stratum boss, the plan is simple: Dark Hunter for Leg Bind, Troubador for Flame Fantasia, Alchemist for Ice damage, and Sovereign for Elemental Link and buffs. The last slot would be Survivalist, probably.

Of course all of this is insanely RNG-dependant, and the rules might be bent to better suit my own playstyle, but those are the rules I'm going to plan around. Wish me luck lol

New Seasonals!!

Reminder: Purple/Chaos units are weak to all types except for Yellow/Harmony units, while Yellow/Harmony units are favored to all types except for Purple/Chaos units!

Reminder two: Chaos units give buffs upon running a rainbow team. They're essentially built to disrupt "mono green" or "mono blue" teams.

Special Agent Zora (Attacker)

Functionally the Noelle-killer, which is kind of funny

Increased favored damage buffs [remember: only useful against Yellow/Harmony]

SP +6 buff on Skill 1

IF: rainbow team: gives self Taunt Immunity and Invulnerability for one turn

Conclusion: really high damage modifiers, going to be much better in the future as more harmony units come out. I don't have him so I haven't tested him personally, but people say he's good and I'm inclined to believe them.

Special Agent Vanessa (Debuffer)

This unit is crazy. THIS WOMAN GOES CRAZY

IF: rainbow team: inflicts Total Silence on all enemies for one turn at the start of the battle

30 battle turns is important for this unit : both of her Enhancement passives (SP-8 on all enemies/80% increased damage taken on all enemies) and her grimoire passive (50% reduced DEF) rely on her surviving without having died to battle turn level 30.

Protection (cannot select her), Disarm (reduces damage dealt by enemies), and a lot of mobility reduction. She will be VERY relevant in speed teams.

Conclusion: if you want to be an absolute asshole in the arena.

Hortus Infernal: Nabnab (THE SPIDER IS REAL THE SPIDER IS REAL THE SPIDER IS REAL THE SP-)

It started with a simple instruction: Give Banban a foil. That was easy enough, Banban was all about sharing, and a foil would be about taking..."Nab"ing, if you will.

Now the problem came with what kind of demon they should be. Uthman didn't want a third Baphomet, and other suggestions kept getting shot down as well.

Eventually, one of the workers got fed up with all the hold ups, and decided to open the Grimoire to a random page, and whatever THAT was, was going to be their Nabnab.

The thing was simply called a "Diable", a "Devil". No further details. it was summoned anyway, and their many mistakes would not be caught until it was much, much too late.

Due to the worker's inexperience with using the demonic language, when they meant to make the contract clause so that Nabnab could not attack anyone unless they were breaking storehouse rules... it got twisted to a specific rule, the one where you're not suppose to be alone in the storehouse... and even further twisted into "If someone is alone". Anywhere. Period.

And soon, Nabnab broke loose, using that loophole to hunt with bloodthirsty reckless abandon. Contorting himself to crawl up within the air vents, to drive the workers mad with scratching within the walls, to draw them away from safety with mimics of the pleas for help from his past victims.

Even if they weren't afraid to send any of the demons back, it was clear Nabnab didn't WANT to leave his new found buffet, so a more drastic measure got set into motion: To summon a second one, just as bloodthirsty, but with a counter-loophole in their contract, to only be able to attack if in the room with Nabnab, that would hopefully cause the two to endlessly chase each other, and cancel each other out of their ability to hunt.

Unfortunately, before the summoning could be complete, is when the takeover happened, leaving the plan in limbo, until the Protagonist is forced to finish it come chapter 3, and hope they were onto something...

Yeah, this was one of those instances where I saw the illustration and was just instantly "YUP, THAT ONE'S GONNA BE THE NABS" gJSAghjsa

Firstly, I'd like to thank Hear Our Voices Book Tours and author Analeigh Sbrana for the free advance reader!

***All thoughts and opinions are my own***

Guess this is 3.5 stars?? 

Will be tuned in for book 2, though book 1 felt lacking?? Many times it felt like I’d skimmed or skipped information and the story would reference it as if I as the reader knew. It felt very narration heavy, in that instead of spending time in scenes, as soon as we got good and settled, the story moved on to the next story beat. I felt a bit detached as I read, wanting to be completely immersed in the story but never officially reaching that point.

Also the “twist” at the end…it was weird. Didn’t have an emotional reaction to Asher being the Syerell(sp) guy--the fae guy who visited Lore's family apothecary at the start of the book-- But I am laughing at how this sets us up for Lore to be with Finn. How convenient. (On that point, the earlier romance with "Asher" also felt a bit lacking to me, in that it happened so fast, to the point where it felt like insta-love and hate-to-love had a struggle baby...)

This is another "cover buy and keep" book this year (2023 seems to be the year for this lol). Because the cover illustration for this book is GORGEOUS?!?!?!

But. Alas. The story didn't inspired equally gushing from me. It wasn't bad!! In fact, it was only okay in every sense of the word.

I look forward to seeing what other secrets Lore's grimoire holds in the next installment, and have hope that this series will pick up. It wouldn't be the first time I was disappointed by the first book, and then fell head over heels in love with its sequel.

Well there was a silly rambles about Yumi, tho i ended up getting on the depessing topics about her, sp instead of that I might as well go to a different lore about Yumi

Aside from her connections with Exe, she still remained human no matter what since it is clearly not her place to be destined to become a puppet. From his perspective he thinks that she is destined to become a timekeeper. (Tho its doesnt seem to be the case since she never handle it well and just kept a forced smile.)

She often smiles which it was too perfect no one can tell if she is sad or not.

Rest assured tho it was no fake.

She somehow has apathy to forget the cycle pain and just move on with the others.

As a timekeeper, she is the only one who is aware of what is going to happen in the future, and is the only one who knows the past. And yet it never fails to drive her insane cause its way too much information to keep it in the head to be well aware, she is human and she isnt asking to be the perfect timekeeper but literally asking for a relaxing life.

Tho she can be seen as more often creepy for a while at a first thought since its hard to come up with a lore that makes sense.

Like Yumi trying to create potions to make Yume in disguise in order not to give a heavy headache for Crowley for every public events. There were times where she has to be a female in certain events but she barely cares about it since she can tell there is somehow no consequences to that.

What the others weren’t aware is that Yumi often gets more stress than ever to the point that she almost lost her sanity, to destress it she often waits patiently for Riddle to invite her on an unbirthday party to relax or invites Riddle and the others to visit Ramshackle Dorm to have a relaxing home-cooking meals and drinks. She is a Jamil/Trey tier chef but focuses on the other foods from earth she tried to re-remember.

I do like to think that Yumi secretly create a private room where she kept her previous memorized subjects in a book she manage to find and got it time reversal proof just to preserve its knowledge, so when she needed a knowledge recap she can simply go there and re-read it again to relax more often.

Earth books are almost similar to Twisted Wonderland but there are clear differences. Twisted Wonderland books often has grimoires of magical spells and other knowledge that FOCUSES on magic, while Earth focuses on books that doesn’t contain knowledge about magic but languages and etc. Tho both has similar in common known as technology, history, etc. (Tho its highest differences is the magic and non magic books)

From what I can think of in Twisted Wonderland, people with magic tend to have more superior and power than the magic-less. Yumi who thinks who doesn’t have magic in the first place just tries not to give a damn about it since they are just human and neither the less, tho she can be wrong since she does not know which factions are WAY worser since both sides DOES have intentions but worse. From that I mean literally witnessing evil intentions that can destroy a persons mind by a single action that can change everything with a blink of an eye, bothering the change the past can’t completely solve everything since its not really that necessary (unless she is in a massive world of pain if that is an option).

Another part of the ramble is what is mostly preferable, having the mc in twst having the magic or not but that alone doesn’t seem to be interesting in the first place, I wanna ramble more about Yumi anyway.~

When I think of the twst mc, it was mostly focused on the beginning, but what about the end. Or another scenario as to what happens everything repeats but the twst mc knows what is going to happen next wanting to refix the situation but cannot due to past trauma of timeline interfering, or another scenario where the mc wanted to warn the next timeline but making a scenario from what they learned from their experiences and converted it to a scenery dream where the player themselves feel nostalgic. (Basically re-remembering a scene of a disney movie THAT WILL EVENTUALLY HAPPEN SOONER OR LATER)

Keeping the photos as a mystery to the twst mc would be a bit of a challenge since the photography not only keeps the photo itself, but the memories of why that photo is basically taken two times. Tho it never makes sense as to why the thorns covered the first card.

For my silly summary about Yumi tho, I do view her as a silly test mc but basically ignore her mental health just to take care of the twst boys like she is a sibling to them, tho she doesn’t pick favorites since she did spend many timeline cycles interacting with them and kept it on the camera till the current timeline of Yumi reviews the previous photos taken in the magical camera that has been taking dust.

Tho I do wonder

The magical camera serves as the main reason why it made the twst boys look attractive, but how is it still active from the amount of dust it collected when its BASICALLY abandoned by Crowley.

Tho in my silly ramblings its just making Yumi the timekeeper at this rate/j

I do want to make more ramblings about her relationship with the boys but i barely made progress due to work purposes, so hopefully I can still remind myself to make more ramblings about this one day.

Grimoire is the only SP property I did not buy. I bought everything else, including the Armaggedon-Outta-Here re-issue. But the Grimoire was just too much, too stupid, too cheap, too sloppy, I couldn't disrespect myself by purchasing it. Maybe others followed my example and sales were so trash across the board that they quietly re-did it completely, removing the juvenile art completely, hoping it sells this time? That cover looks identical...

It doesn't sound like that will be the case. The cover is identical bc it's the paperback version.

They only want to add the UtE summary and fix the mistakes in the summaries.

The audiobooks will be updated and the eBooks presumably too, but there won't even be a new corrected hardcover version of the Grimoire.

Apparently, he never wanted to update it at all which is really bloody amazing considering all the errors with which it should have never been released in the first place. Plus, I remember vaguely that he always did intend to release a version with the mistakes fixed, but rn I'm too lazy to go tweet-hunting for that. So, ya know, correct me if I'm wrong.

His publishers had to push him to update the Grimoire and they had to push him to write "Hell Breaks Loose". Could he be any more obviously not interested in writing SP anymore? Just stop writing SP, this is a disaster.

To the Oneshot of SP x child!Male!reader

They are mages and more advanced and stuff as the humans, so I added fridge and guns, that were made by the mages themselves. Was it smart ? Probably not, did I do it anyways ? Yes.

Please don't attack me for it. TvT I know the Mevolent war took 300 years. I just thought, because they are smarter than humans were in the past, they have that stuff already and just named it different. Don't judge meh, I didn't read my two books through yet, nor do I have the Grimoire book. I only found out today that Larikkin's last name was revealed. *Pout* Larikkin Fetter... And in what book was it ?! The book I don't HAVE ! Grimoire.... Fuck my life...

What’s wrong with SP Phase Two?

I’m not willing to write the whole essay right now but basically I think it really highlights and compounded the flaws that did exist in phase 1.

This includes him literally failing to take notes and having to retcon things in the grimoire.

I think the next SP book will have a focus on Gog Magog.

Reasoning: The fact he was brought up at the end of the series. Also at the end of the Grimoire it says how he is is getting stronger and he's coming back.
