listening to the srw j ost bc that post I reblogged yesterday... and I'm suddenly reminded about how I ditched the layzner early in my run of SRW 64.
I'm sorry Eiji, I depended on your 2/2 ammo calf missiles for like 10 chapters and then never upgraded you :'(

side mission shenanigans
I'm told IBO is a good Gundam but the fact that this is a CHILD makes me too physically uncomfortable to actually watch it
Tumblr media
I've only had Hayato for three minutes (and I have to buy a DLC to actually use him) but if anything happened to him--
Tumblr media
I know very little of Getter but the vibecheck on this dude is terrifying actually
Tumblr media
what the HELL style does this remind me of, I---hm.
Tumblr media
hehe
Tumblr media
the 30 year anniv mission is cute actually
Tumblr media
GET GAO'D NERD
Tumblr media
dork.
Tumblr media
sorry Edge I'm turning this game into All Brave Police, All the Time and you can't stop me
Tumblr media
I won't be using these three because I don't like their bug eyes, they look like fae mimics and that I should be checking for shadows. :c
Tumblr media
so I learned this dude was isekai'd or something and made magic robots just because he could
Tumblr media
Yeah. yeah.
Tumblr media
oh god one of the fae mimic chicks got to Mitsuba
Tumblr media
...Albert Wesker? Is that you?
Tumblr media
bro. bro are you stealing money from the government (based if true actually)
Tumblr media
I already had kind of a headcanon going that the Huckleberry is cantankerous to pilot so I love that it was validated
Tumblr media
YEAAHHH BIG FUCK YOU CANNON GOO
Tumblr media
when the intrusive thoughts are making you want to trust a fart after a Taco Bell binge
Tumblr media
"lol butthurt"
Tumblr media
I should probably actually work on my art but I'm tired and also I REALLY wanted to speedrun to get my main man Gunmax on the squad asap <3

So I just finished Super Robot Wars 30 (the only SRW I've played so far), and being the obsessed hyperfixator that I am, I immediately thought about how Symphogear would've mixed with the world.
Unfortunately the answer is "not great" because in 30 there are multiple elements at play in the creation of humanity and trying to add in Symphogear with it's lore regarding the Anunnaki is... difficult (if only because the Wulgaru from Majestic Prince has taken that space).
WITH THAT SAID... if w were to ignore that part of the lore and they WERE in this universe, could anybody else see Section Two/S.O.N.G. being closely tied to GGG? They serve VERY similar purposes, and you cannot tell me that Genjuro wouldn't respect the hell out of the philosophies that GGG runs on. Because 30 follows Gaogaigar VS. Betterman and takes place 10 years after Final, any Symphogear plots would've had to happen AFTER Final, so chances are none of the wielders (barring potentially Tsubasa) would've had much of a connection to the original GGG members, but that just means they'd be working with the newer GGG instead, which means that they would be friends with Mamoru and Kaido instead, and probably work alongside them at times as well.
Putting a focus on Hibiki just for the sake of simplicity, she probably gets along great with Mamoru and has heard plenty of heroic stories about the original Braves... and when the original Braves DO come back, boy would she ever look up to Guy. And like, who wouldn't, right? But ESPECIALLY Hibiki. She's got bravery in spades, after all.
There are a LOT of other elements to consider, of course.... but full disclosure, I can't say I have a full comprehensive understanding of the timeline concerning the Last 10 Years that 30 takes place after. But it just feels to me that they fit in especially well with the Gaogaigar characters, much in the same way J-Decker did.
Anyways, ramble over, but one last thing... it's worth noting that they'd also work well with the Gridman characters too, especially since well... Hibiki is canonically someone he could merge with in order to fight.

Enjoying the story of SRW J a lot more than GC partly because the FeMC is way more interesting in this game, and in part because the cast of Martian Succesor Nadesico is so cool and funny. Only big complaint is that they made Gai Daijoji's death heroic instead of anticlimactic and random. At that point it would be funnier to just keep him alive spouting nonsense for the whole game.

So I only JUST realized you're using a CRT filter on everything to make it not a mess of pixels and I want to thank you for it.
I'm glad you appreciate it!
Tumblr media
Rigorously, i'm actually running the game through two filters: an LCD one and a color correction one, combined into a single filter.
The LCD one I could live without, since i only use it because I think it makes the sprites pop better, but the color correction one, as far as i'm concerned, is a bare essential for playing any GBA game, since a lot of GBA games colored their sprites while accounting for how the screen would darken it. Just compare Bright's face before and after the filters:

Or SRW J's Mazinger Z sprite:

do you have any srpg recs? i've only ever played fire emblem and tactics, but it's definitely a genre i wanted to play more games from. just don't know where to start.
SRW is another good franchise, as long as you stick to the old games (up to the PS2/PSP titles). It's mecha, I don't know if that's offputting or not, but even if you put the mecha element aside, they are very robust, well-made games. One I recommend to start on is SRW J for the GBA, it has a fan-made translation patch, it's good looking, good sounding, fun for the whole trip and a half, not difficult, the perfect entry point.
Just don't try the modern ones. This is the one franchise I'm full-on "no yeah the old times were in fact the best". The old SRWs are legitimately some of the best SRPGs out there.
If you like seeing number go up and grinding forever, and also don't mind heavy weeb humor, you may also like Disgaea. Disgaea is mostly carried by style and charm rather than actual robust systems, but I'd be remiss not to recommend it, given I spent a significant chunk of my life playing them until I had enough of grinding and seeing number go up forever.

Streaming SRW 30 at 8:30pm EST with @possessedscholar!
DLCs are out of the way (for now) and so is J-Decker, which means it's time to go find some more people that are Actually Cool! Which should also help in figuring out which characters will get to actually be on the team and who's going to be benched, since we can get a better idea of who needs to stick around for Secrets and Plot and such.

HAPPY 90th BIRTHDAY TO Mort Jarvis!🎊🎉🎊 here he is in this picture with his daughter, Connie. Recently, Mort lost his wife of over 60 years, Arlene. I’m sure many of the SR 71 families remember the Jarvis family; I know I do. My Mom said they always had this blue pickup truck if they would loan it to anybody on the base. They are such a nice family.
Here’s a story that I posted a while back on Aviation Geek Club.
When his SR-71 pitched up and slammed into a KC-135Q tanker at 26,000 feet, Blackbird RSO Maj. Mortimer J. Jarvis knew it was time to go. The pilot, Lt. Col. Buddy Brown, ejected from the damaged SR-71, and Mortimer was right behind him. On Jun. 17, 1970, Lt. Col. Buddy L. Brown and Maj. Mortimer J. Jarvis of the 1st Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron was scheduled for a crew training flight. The crew was also to test a newly installed defensive avionics system (DEF F) over the range at Eglin Air Force Base (AFB), Florida.
Contact with the second tanker was smooth and effective. Three minutes later, following the transfer of 16,000 pounds of fuel, the SR-71 suddenly dropped four to six feet. As Brown attempted to stabilize the aircraft, it pitched up and struck the tanker.
The black shape of the SR-71 briefly filled the boomer’s window, the tanker shuddered with the impact, and the stricken spyplane dropped away.
The Blackbird’s canopy glass fractured, causing Brown to lose all outside references. Also, his control panel had broken loose from its mounts, and he could not control the airplane. Brown called Jarvis over the intercom to order him to eject, but Jarvis never heard him. Jarvis saw the flash as Brown bailed out and the PILOT EJECTED light on his instrument panel. Jarvis then ejected, and both crewmembers parachuted to safety…Mort Jarvis: His parachute did not open when he ejected at 15,000 feet!
When his parachute didn’t open after he was released from the ejection seat at 15,000 feet, Maj. Mort Jarvis knew what to do.
“The most deliberate move I ever made in my life was reaching up and pulling that D-ring,” he said.
Both the pilot and the RSO survived the crash. Buddy Browns legs were both broken.
In Mar 1969 9th SRW receives 15th Air Force Outstanding Recon Crew (Pat Halloran/Mort Jarvis) with Nancy Cook,Connie Mort Jarvis Scott Jarvis. Mike Jarvis

Idk if you knew or saw but brave police was part of the SRW 30 game and you can watch all the brave police parts on youtube without having to actually play the game. Spoiler alert: its pretty cute! And nice to see j-decker get some love in one of these games for once.
Oh yeah I know about that. I was actually gonna buy the game cuz it also has Getter in it, since it is also one of my special interest. But the game play wasn't my cup of tea😭 but I have watched some of the interactions! It is cute

You fool, the light of the moon can never hope to touch the heavens!
.
It is super weird that Moderoid did the Great Zeorymer first as a model kit, before doing this, the base form, and most recognizable form, of Zeorymer of the Heavens. An internet friendo, when I shared a pic of the box when the kit showed up, said that Zeorymer was a deep cut, as far as mecha stuff goes.  And I suppose it is!  But I happen to love Zeorymer, I learned of it initially through the Super Robot Wars games (it appears in MX and J), and I went out and watched the anime (even have the box dvd set!), and really enjoyed it.  I keep getting told that the manga is... well there’s more story, but also it’s apparently kinda porny?  I’ll be honest not super interested in reading the manga personally, I’m fine with the good anime, and using in SRW games where both appearances it is an absolute BEAST of a unit that can solo most stages if you upgrade it at all.
Two more shots under the cut, but honestly there’s only pose that matters with the Zeorymer XD and thats the one above, the HADES ATTACK!  There’s no reason to pose it doing anything else really.

Tumblr media
[UGLY SOBBING] I'M SO SORRY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Todo. What are you planning. TODO?
Tumblr media
I love how everyone immediately starts giving Shadow-maru shit for having a canid altmode. (not Yuta of course, he's just being considerate c: )
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
HELLO? IS THIS THE NORMAL STORY OR DID I DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT??
Tumblr media
ok now I gotta do non-BP stuff I guess (but I see u hiding there, BioNet mission)
It is slightly disappointing that they crammed in both the Build Team's relationships with their respective humans, as well as the Kagero/Shadow-maru arc, into one mission which ruins some of the impact there. But I also understand this is a MASSIVE crossover game and they have a lot of ground to cover and introduce each series, and the units/characters, as well as bind them all with an overarching plot.

I've been curious about SRW for awhile, is there like, a good jumping on point?
Honestly? Like 90% of them if you can read Japanese. That said, a few are really good starting points.
30: this is on steam, in English, in western regions. Very easy to get, only real issue is a few references to older SRW games, one of which is a major plot twist and another is the bonus boss. Also mission structure is far less static than usual SRW games, with missions being able to be done in player’s choice order up to a point. Lacks SR Points (challenges done per stage that give rewards if done, also having enough traditionally ramps up the difficulty), which is a mixed bag.
V, X, and T: also officially in english, but you’ll have to find a used copy or emulate as they’re not on steam. Gameplay’s closer to traditional SRW than 30. Many units are shared between the three with few changes, meaning it's easy to go between the three.
J: Fairly easy, one of the simpler SRW games to pick up (few gimmicks other SRW games don't have) and one of the best examples of what the GBA can do graphically. Has an excellent English patch (aside from referring to Zeorymer as "Of The Skies" as opposed to the more intended "Of The Heavens"). Lacks SR Points.
W: A DS entry, it also has an English patch! Generally regarded as having one of the best plots of an SRW game, as well as similar gameplay to J. My personal favorite. Fun fact, originally I played this without a translation and had to rely on a Let's Play to provide translations regarding the story!
OGs: This is where I started! This is the SRW where they said "Hey we have a shit ton of OC's, why don't we just make an SRW featuring them all mashed together with no licensed entries?" And they did. A nice balance of being fairly easy, but having SR Points. Only problem is the Real Final Boss in all of these require enough SR Points (technically it requires being in Hard Mode, which is what SR Points do.) GBA version is two games but Officially Translated (OG1 and OG2) and was even released in the US, PlayStation version is one game but has to have a translation patch added. Personal opinion, PS version's better, though I suspect most people would agree.
