Prompt 17 Sickly

The new and improved SS literally can't sink easily made its way through the thick ice of the arctic. The new equipment in form of an ice breaker really showed its worth in those harsh conditions. Aboard, the seals were working tirelessly, doing their best to please the vacationers which wasn't always easy. One seal had to climb up a tight rope just to deliver a worm cocktail to a crow that shoved a ticket into the seal's face that looked suspiciously fake, but who was to say that it wasn't real. The seal took the ticket from the crow, heading to the captain to ask him if that ticket was real, and if it was fake, what to do with the crow.

When the seal, who was rubbing their head after falling off the rope and onto the deck, arrived at the control room, they heard coughing. Their boss must have gotten sick! That was awful, if he got worse, the whole cruise liner had to stop unless one of the seal crew took over...even the seal knew that that was a very VERY stupid idea.

The worried seal hurried to the kitchen, nearly tripping over luggage that was left out in the hallway. A simple soup was in technicality quite easy to prepare...if one had to hands, with flippers, it was quite hard to even set up a pot and switch on the stove. The little seal nearly burned themselves on the hot stove top as they set up the water to boil. Water ended up on the floor when they put in a whole chicken which barely even fit into the pot, causing another seal to slip and fall. Chopping vegetable was a challenge to with the boat rocking as much as it did, the carrots and celery pieces were quite a bit big, but it was better than nothing, they thought. They actually managed to season the soup well enough, despite the troubles the pepper shaker gave them as it was somehow so clogged that they had to free the openings at the top, it resulted in a big sneeze that made the seal fall over coupled with a rough wave.

After around two hours of hard labor, the results were quite impressive, especially considering the horrible track record of the seals had when it came to...anything, really. They brought a bowl of the soup over to their captain who eyed it suspiciously before giving in to the cute and expectant look of the seal that was waiting for his reaction to their creation. He was pleasantly surprised that the rather strange looking soup didn't outright kill him, it even tasted acceptable, not amazing, but better than anything his crew had ever made. The seal that made the soup was subsequently left on kitchen duty, and somehow managed to make the service on the ship go from abysmal to horrible.

“You sure you can find the dooms on your own, Lambchop?”

“Buck is right, we could leave the class earlier and pick you up…or we could skip today’s class.”

Shakes your head, you give both of your best friends a ‘Don’t you dare to try’ look and continue gathering your stuff.

“I know my terrible ability about the roads is the reason why you worried about me, but I have the Google map and the GPS. Or I could ask other guys how to go to the dooms. There are so many ways! Besides, I couldn’t always hide under your wings, right?”

“I’d rather and will always protect you, there are so many bastards in this world…”

Steve murmurs under his breath but he sighs while Bucky strokes your hair softly with the back of his left hand.

“If someone tries to hurt you, you call us ANYTIME without hesitation, you got me, doll?”

You nod and snuggle against his hand.

Follow the map and GPS, you stop at a historic building, the ivy climbs up the stone walls, small, rectangular windows let in plenty of light and have been added to the house in a very symmetric way.

The house is equipped with a large kitchen and two bathrooms, it also has a spacious living room, four bedrooms, a roomy dining area, a multimedia room, and a grand storage room. The roof is high and triangular and is covered with stone slabs.

The building is shaped like an L. The extension extends into wooden sunscreen structures reaching the end of that side of the house.

The second floor is the same size as the first, but part of it hangs over the edge of the floor below, creating an overhang on one side and a balcony on the other. This floor has a slightly unique style compared to the floor below.

Press the doorbell, wait a few moments until someone opens the door.

Sitting on the soft and cozy couch, you take your phone and text your best friends that you’ve arrived at the dorm. When they text you back and say they’ll bring your favorite restaurant meal back, you smile at the screen.

The bang of the door shuttling startles you and makes you jump slightly. Turning to the door, you meet your classmates.

“Um…what are you doing here?”

“Hey, Jake, Dennis. I’m waiting for Steve and Bucky. You two just finish your class?”

The two of them let their bags fall on the ground and then sit on both sides.

“Den and I finished our programs, so we decided to play some video games in our rooms. I, I never thought I’d meet you here. I mean, you’re so shy and sweet, and the two pricks protect you so well that the whole dooms have a bet that when will you be a thing…”

You chuckle when you hear Jake’s words. 

The reason Steve and Bucky are so protective is that you are their childhood best friend. You three are always together like each other’s shadows. You’ve been their support friend and sunshine since they could remember.

Before Steve turned into a delicious beefcake, it was you and Bucky who protected him; Bucky protected him from those bullies, and you saved him from those mean girls. Steve was a stubborn cat, and he still is. Then, he became beefy and taller after your last summer vacation in your high school. So did Bucky, only you became twice the size, though both reassured you that they still think you are the most beautiful woman in this world. But you’ve seen those pretty women around your best friends.

None of them like you.

Everything changed after the summer. You were no longer the sunshine and confident one, you don’t like jogging with them anymore because you didn’t like to bear those stares on your body. You don’t like to see your reflection in the mirror or take photos.

You thought they would dump you or distance themselves when they realize you’re not enough for them. But no, both those boys glued on your sides and be more protective after you met some pricks and bullies.

After the chaotic night and the soft morning, you told yourself that the whole world didn’t worth you to upset your two fucking ‘the best’ best friends.

“Lambchop! Sorry, we’re late.” Bucky’s voice lets you jump and stand up quickly, running to him and giving him a bear hug. He catches your weights easily, his hands cupping your hips while he kisses your right cheek.

“Miss us so much, hum?” You nod and peck his lips, arms around his neck. Then you rest your face on his shoulder while you smile at Steve, who stood behind Bucky and is lifting your favorite meal.

“Steviee~~” You swear Bucky and Steve flinch at the same time when they heard you calling Steve’s name sweetly.

 The blonde chuckles and bends over to kiss your left cheek.

Your giggle dies down when you see someone show up behind Steve, he wears a red and white racer coat, and he clears his throat.

Bucky groans when he sees the man. “Oh no the troublemaker is here.”

“What are you doing here? I supposed today’s Scott or Nick to come here.”

Steve clenches his jaw and shifts between you and the man so he won’t see you.

“Lance is invited by me, you two idiots in love. We’re not interested in your Lambchop.”

Ransom’s voice draws everyone’s attention, you climb down from Bucky and suddenly noticed that there are so many men in the same place.

“Buck, can we go to your bedroom? Or the dining room?” You tug Bucky’s sleeve and give him your best doe eyes.

“Anything you want, sunshine. Let’s head to our room.”

You could sense the two pairs of eyes gawking at you when you follow your best friends.

After you left, Dennis and Jake went back to their room silently, only Ransom and Lance still stood there.

“You should come sooner, it’s impossible to meet her alone. They’re like her guards or something.” Ransom frowned while Lance shrugged

“Sorry, Branden and Nick want to see her too, we took some time to decide who could come here this time.”

Ransom sighed and stepped toward the fridges, pouring himself a glass of icy water. 

“I bet she has something to bait all of us curious about her, and I don’t know why those two idiots craved her so much. She’s not special.”

“Or just to us. Barnes is like a tamed puppy when he’s around her. I’ve never seen him like that.”

Lance smirked when he rethinks Steve’s actions and your sweet giggles, his Adam's apple babbled.

Mystictober Day 15-- Scream

Truth be told, Unknown didn't really think this through. The closest thing he had to a plan was to tamper with the security cameras so that they showed a continuous loop of boring footage, break into the apartment, and take you away to Magenta with him. However, having spent so long within Mint Eye, he did not anticipate the annoying little quirks of outsider behavior that would ultimately throw a wrench into his plan.

For one thing, you aren't in the apartment when he gets there— you're somewhere else, out getting coffee with a friend or grocery shopping or maybe looking at antiques. He doesn't have his sophisticated tracking equipment with him at the apartment, only an app which informs him that you're somewhere within a closely confined cluster of vastly different stores— and, of course, nobody is keeping you on any kind of schedule, so you're free to roam around at your leisure after that. You're too trusting, so you might go anywhere next, and Unknown will have no way to bring you here, unless he wants to risk a phone call. That might be counterintuitive, though— you may not return to the apartment if you know he's here. You could be gone for hours. Not that he can really blame you— he’s been here twenty minutes, and already, he’s beginning to get restless.

Hopefully, that redhead will continue to believe that the loop of apartment footage being fed to him is completely genuine— Unknown isn't too worried about that, actually; you usually spend several hours a day laying on the bed, followed by several hours at the Savior's old desk, interspersed with a few quick trips to the kitchen. If he doesn't see you for hours on end, especially knowing that you went out today, Luciel will just assume that you went to go lay down directly after coming home and that he missed the moment when you walked through the living room. The more Unknown thinks about it, the more confident he is that he'll be able to pull this off— by the time that redhead seriously starts to worry, you and Unknown will already be long gone.

Finally, finally, the door to the apartment clicks open. Even in the dark, Unknown can tell that you're carrying several large canvas bags— grocery shopping, then. He's glad— you probably rushed home, right into his arms, even if you didn't know that was what you were doing. You have yet to notice him, even as you flick the light switch on— you've got headphones on, and you sway slightly to your music as you set your bags down on the floor and lock the door behind you. Unknown sits patiently on the couch for a few moments, waiting for you to notice him, but as you fiddle with the lock— too late for that, sweetheart— he grows increasingly frustrated.

Unknown, after all, is not, by nature, a particularly patient person. "Surprise!" he shouts.

You practically jump out of your skin. Trembling, you turn around to face him— he should be bothered by the scream that you release. It may very well give him away, not only to that redhead but to the building's security, as well— but Unknown can't help but be amused. "Mmm," he hums, rising, "Hello to you, too."

"You’re the hacker, right?" Now that you’ve assessed him, you don’t seem half as scared as you were to begin with, but Unknown doesn't care. He has to take you back with him one way or another— whether you're laughing or crying, you're going to Magenta. He can't, in good conscience, leave you with those bastards. "You really scared me! Couldn’t you have given me some kind of warning? I know you have my number, since you hacked into my phone. Couldn't you have called or something?" You pause, apparently remembering your manners. "Sorry for screaming at you, man. I was just a little caught off guard is all. Can I offer you something to drink, now that you're here? I have water or tea... I could make coffee, too, if you wanted."

 "Come on, prince(ss). We're going now," Unknown tells you, as if you hadn't spoken. After all, he doesn't have time to bother with your question, or to sit around drinking tea with you— it’s only a matter of time before Luciel figures out the issue with the cameras, and Unknown would prefer to be gone by then.

It had been three months since Kalpas occupied your couch, and you hadn't seen him at all. Sakura gave you updates occasionally—if only to see you try to hide the small smile that hearing his name brought to your face. Now that he wasn't actively living in your home, it was easier to ignore the bad parts of him being there and remember the good. Like all the food he'd left behind, and the conversations the four of you had shared.

Because of Sakura's teasing, however, you knew that Kalpas had successfully moved in, and that the grand opening of his restaurant would be in a month. She and Rin were decidedly not invited. The first few weeks would be a train-wreck. Between new hires, new equipment, and critics all trying to be the first to give their rating, Kalpas didn't want the two visiting. Once things settled down, they were welcome anytime; and even you had been extended an invite, though you weren't sure if it was something you wanted to follow through on.

The Golden Courtyard specialized in seafood, and was so high end that you couldn't even afford the parking. In a meeting, your boss's boss complained about her wife wanting to go and not being able to get a reservation for nearly a year, despite calling on opening day.

It was weird. Knowing some pissy guy that had spent half a week sleeping on your couch was the owner and head chef of the best restaurant in town. Just meeting him on the street, or hearing about him from Sakura, you never would've guessed it. The meals he made while visiting were some of the best you'd ever had, and you knew he was good, but this just seemed like some sort of joke. How could someone so angry have thousands of people dying to try his food?

A week or so after opening, Kalpas kept his promise, and came to visit Rin and Sakura once a week. You hadn't expected any visits yourself, though some part of you wanted to at least say 'hi.' Maybe see if he was still wearing those too-tight pants, or if he looked any less angsty now that he didn't have so much on his plate to worry about. As much as you wanted to see him, pride and anxiety kept you firmly on your side of the hall, even when you could hear him on the other side.

Every Wednesday, you'd hear Kalpas at Sakura's door while you were making your breakfast. When you made your lunch, you could hear him and Rin coming back from her school, and at dinner, you'd hear Rin's shouts as Sakura returned. No matter what you were cooking, when their door opened, you could smell the food Kalpas was making, and it was rare that you weren't jealous of whatever they were having.

Every Thursday, you'd pick Rin up, and the whole walk back to your apartment was a recap of everything she and “uncle Kalpas” had done the day before. Friday you'd get to hear the other people on your hall gossip in the laundry room about the “handsome young man” Sakura was dating. Saturday, Sakura herself would tell you about Kalpas while you, she, and Rin wandered the grocery store.

By the time Monday came around, Rin had moved on from her uncle to tell you about a new rumor at school, or some TV show she'd been watching. With how much time you spent talking about a man you hardly knew, the change of topic was refreshing.

This Monday in particular was a holiday, so you had the day off; Sakura, however, did not, so you were looking after Rin for the day. You and the girl were in your living room, sitting on the floor with your back against the couch and Rin between your legs. Some movie she'd begged you to watch was on in the background while you absentmindedly brushed out her hair. Hearing a knock at the door startled you both so much that the hairbrush ended up on the couch behind you and Rin's hands had a death grip on your legs.

Gently, you pried the hands off of you, and took one in your own before standing and heading to the door. As soon as it was open, Rin's hand left yours in favor of clinging to Kalpas, who didn't even blink whens he jumped at him. He looked slightly less angry than you remember, but more importantly, his pants—though shorts now instead of the longer pants he'd worn before—fit exactly the same.

“Restaurant's closed.” Kalpas interrupted your staring, which was probably for the best, you were in no rush to stop yourself otherwise. Now that you were using your brain again, you were a bit unsure what to do. Was he here to take Rin and leave, or should you invite him in?

“We're watching Lilo and Stitch!” You were? Honestly, you'd just turned the movie on and zoned out, you couldn't remember anything after the opening credits. “You should watch with us!”

Kalpas didn't even say hello. Rin's feet hit the ground after she wriggled out of his arms, and then she was dragging him to the couch. You must've forgotten how frustrating he was in all your daydreaming . With a sigh to yourself, you locked the door, and headed over to the others. As soon as you were within arm's reach, small hands were pulling you down to sit on the floor again. Taking the hint, you sat in the same position as before, and unpaused the movie.

The only problem was, right now, you were right next to Kalpas' leg. He sat on the couch like he was trying to take up as much space as possible, legs spread so far that your only options were to sit between them, or have his knee practically against your shoulder. Rin may not have noticed your shaky hands, or the loud thumping of your heart, but there was no way Kalpas didn't. The next fifteen minutes were spent with you trying to keep your nerves to yourself.

Why the hell were you so anxious anyway? Usually this wasn't a reasonable question, but right now, it seemed fitting. Kalpas was admittedly attractive, but nearly every interaction you'd had with him had been less than pleasant. He hated you before he even knew you, and things hadn't gotten better once he did. So in response to your question: you were anxious because of some stupid crush. It would never lead to anything, and—from what little time you'd spent together—you were sure that if it did, it wouldn't end well. Taking a deep breath in, you did you best to let your worries go with the exhale that followed.

Before the movie had ended, Sakura got home, her job let everyone go home early as compensation for dragging everyone in on a holiday. She and Kalpas walked over to her apartment to get started on some food while you and Rin finished watching. You brought her back across the hall after the credits, politely declined Sakura's invite to join them for dinner, and returned to your own apartment.

Internally, you were upset to miss out on one of Kalpas' dinners, but you wanted some space to help yourself forget about the crush you had on some version of Kalpas that only existed in your mind. You wouldn't make for very good company right now with how often you found yourself staring off into space.

All your efforts to forget about the man were in vain. Exactly a week later, Kalpas invited Sakura and Rin to his restaurant on his day off. You had a feeling this invitation came after much prodding from the sisters, but regardless, they were going. And so were you.

Rin wasn't the only one with a good set of puppy-eyes. Sakura didn't even give you a chance to respond before she was giving you that look you couldn't say 'no' to. If someone had told you that your stern and intimidating neighbor (who knew how to use a sword for some reason?) had a pout that would have you agreeing to anything, you wouldn't have believed them. You were convinced the shock factor was half the reason the look worked so well.

So, here you were, putting on your best clothes, and going to a restaurant where you'd look like you'd stumbled in off the street.
