We got some lovely entries for Day 1! Tomorrow is Day 2, and our theme for the day will be Written in the Stars!!

In a lot of ways this is a segue from today's theme about women in STEM, as Sloane's clear love for stars is very much rooted in science!! Astronomy and astrophysics are subjects she seems to take great interest in, and stargazing is one of the first few pastimes she and Hayden share together! She is in fact so knowledgeable in this field that she's actually qualified enough to be part of NASA if she chose!

But her interest in stars also lies in the stories people tell of them, and how different cultures look at the same constellations and see different things. She is also a storyteller (and while some of us are not the happiest that they had her be the author of AtV!) and her interest in the mythology made behind astronomical objects is so fascinating too!!

Tomorrow, we celebrate both the astronomy whiz and the storyteller in Sloane!

As always, any form of appreciation is welcome! Fanfic, fanart, meta, edits, moodboards, playlists, headcanons, interactive media, even screenshots of favourite scenes or simple posts about your love for her!! Our only requirement is that you center Sloane in your work, and that the depiction is positive!

We also accept WIPs - we know irl can be hard and you may not always get the time to finish off stuff, so do show us a WIP of what you're working on if you're comfortable! We keep our event open even after the deadline (the deadline is mostly for our thank you video!) so you can send in your work anytime as well.

A friendly reminder that these are merely themes for you to use. It isn't completely necessary for your content for a particular day to be posted on that day only. You can post something you intended for Day 2 when Day 5 is on, as long as you tag the post for the day you meant it for.

Headcanon: Sloane's Kids - Hamza, Artemis, Orion and Zohreh

(FC: Sloane Washington (center) - Nelly Muse)

Everyone who has read my fics kinda knows I have three separate universes for PM, with some commonalities. One in which my MC dates only Hayden, and two in which they date all the LIs. Hayden and Sloane in two of these universes also actively date other people. So in all universes, Khaan is someone Sloane has a relationship with, as well as Alana. I do plan to develop a "childhood sweetheart"-like character for her sometime in the future as well. So Hamza definitely is like a firstborn child to her, even though Khaan and Sloane don't exactly marry.

Sloane has three other children, twins from a fertility treatment as well as one daughter with Khaan many years later.

I see Sloane starting out trying to emulate Kim because she's such a fantastic role model, but she eventually gets her own groove and realizes she will be a different kind of parent and that's okay. Where Kim was more intuitive, Sloane is a consummate planner and she does bring that kind of energy into her parenting.

Hamza Mousavi

(FC: Anthony Cyrus Keyvan)

• Born to an Iranian father and a Filipino mother, Hamza spent his first five years constantly moving house because his father Khaan constantly feared that Hamza would be targeted by Eros. Most of those early years feel like a bit of a blur in later life, because once the group entered their lives, things became far more settled for them.

• Hamza took an instant liking to Sloane the moment he saw her. She was shy and smart, was always sweet to him and tried to make healthy treats he would like, and clearly adored his dad. He definitely encouraged Khaan a bit to ask her out (in all universes).

• Hamza obviously is the oldest of the kids that came from the group, and revels in that fact. He is quite fond of bossing the kids around a little 😄

• His dinosaur-love eventually becomes a fascination for mythical beasts in general in later years. Unsurprisingly, his favourite genre for books is fantasy.

• At some point, Sloane revives her writing hobby, and starts writing books for children. Largely with Nadia's encouragement (she promises to do illustrations if Sloane completes a manuscript). Hamza very enthusiastically becomes the test audience for her first book before she sends it to publishers!

• Hamza got his love for healthy treats and a balanced diet from his father Khaan. It's an interest he grows up with. As an adult, he becomes a very sought-after nutritionist (to the initial chagrin of his siblings and cousins 😂)

Artemis Washington

(FC - Arsema Thomas)

• Artemis and her twin brother Orion were born around 3 and a half years after the events of the second book. Like her mother Kim, Sloane did want to have kids at that point, but wasn't ready to have a kid with the people she was dating. She did talk it over with them tho and instantly had everyone's support before she took the plunge.

• The names were of course a suggestion from all the Hayden's in all my universes 😄 Mostly coz Sloane had always loved that story, even before they came along.

• Arty loved to mix and match different pieces in her outfits from the time she was a kid, including a phase where she wanted to wear colourful underwear over her onesies at home coz it made her look like Superman. She was also known for layering different clothes over each other - there was a point at age 4 where she wore a onesie, wore a T-shirt over that, wore bright rainbow leggings over THAT, and completed that look with unicorn-printed shorts. In summer.

• She gets into haircare and makeup as an adult. Loves testing out different products and inventing new looks. I think she builds a brand of her own much later in her late 20s, when she is more confident of her expertise in the business.

• Her favourite film is the animated beauty "Hair Love".

Orion Washington

(FC - Kelvin Harrison Jr)

• Sloane always feels that Ori took after his Nana Kim in a lot of ways

• He loves cooking, and when he gets older loves experimenting with teas!

• Like Sloane, his favourite meal is also a DC Smoke.

• He loved being in the kitchen, loved mixing and matching things there. Sloane, Khaan and Alana would often find grapes in their cups of tea/coffee, an innovation 4 year old Ori would take pride in 😂

• Cooking is really this guy's love language. He does grow up to become a chef later on, joining culinary school early on.

• At some point both he and Hamza teamed up for a "Hello Fresh"-like initiative, where Orion would devise affordable and healthy meal kits, while Hamza assisted with consulting for meal plans!

Zohreh Washington-Mousavi

(FC- Yara Shahidi)

• Zo is five years younger than Artemis and Orion, and fourteen years Hamza's junior. The three of them did spoil their baby sister quite a bit in the early years 😂 She could bat her eyelashes and get away with practically anything - that was also a perk of being the youngest among the entire group of kids!

• Like her twin siblings, Zo's name was also astronomy-based. Artemis is a Greek name for the moon goddess, Orion is a constellation and Zohreh is the Persian name for Venus.

• The kids of the group (Hayden x MC's kids, Nadia and Steve's kids and Sloane and Khaan's kids) do have their own stargazing parties! All of them love looking out for rare astronomical finds, and have their fave constellations. Zo, tho, has a more scientific interest and cultivates it from an early age.

• Zohreh has her mother's interest in Astrophysics and both her parents' interest in tech, so she does actually enroll into NASA as an adult. She takes on a paid internship through the Pathways program after graduating, and that transitions into a full job there.

• Her favourite planetarium is the Hayden Planetarium in NY.

• Arty did plenty of hairstyling experiments on her baby sister as she reached her teens. That still doesn't change when they're adults and Zo has had a number of her friends vie and pay anything for her older sister's services after seeing her amazing hairstyles.

• Zo's fave dish that Orion has made is a Persian fusion dish - saffron chicken wings.

Family HCs:

• Sloane never actually marries, but she's pretty happy with the life she gets to live with the MC (in my poly universes), Khaan and regular visits from Alana.

• All my Haydens, and Sloane, are still close, and they're in fact is Orion's godmother/father in every universe. The MC is the same for Artemis. Nadia and Alana become Zo's godma's years later.

• As a kid Sloane always kept a stress corner for herself with things that would both calm her down and help her with stimming. She does keep one in the house for her kids and it really works for them.

• Hayden(s) kids, MC's kids, Sloane's kids and Nadia's kids all love to form their own group in every universe. Initially inspired by Hamza's stories about their parents, they also band together and envision scenarios where they can save the world 😁 Hamza is undoubtedly the leader haha, he keeps things from getting too out of hand.

• Sloane already looks up to Kim, but she does so even more after becoming a mother. She definitely does come to her for advice and suggestions from time to time.

Little Layla

Dad!Eddie Munson x reader

Layla was playing with her stuffed animals on the floor of her room. Today Eddie was going back to work so he needed to take Layla to daycare. "Come on Layla. Time to go!" he called from the front door. "Whewe we woiwing?" she asks. "You're going to daycare. You'll meet lots of new people and have lots of fun" he tells her. "Wiw wou be whewe?" she asks with puppy dog eyes. "No, daddy won't be there. I have to go to work. But I'll pick you up afterwards" he replies. It breaks his heart to see the few tears trickle down her cheek. "Come on baby let's go" he says and helps her down the steps. He buckles her into her car seat and drives. They arrive at the daycare and he helps her out of the car. When they get to the door she stops and doesn't follow him in. "I swawed" she says tears pricking her eyes. "I know but you're gonna be okay. Just give it a try. For me" he replies and she nods. They enter and they say goodbye. Eddie leaves and Layla finds a spot on the mat and just sits down.

Eddie had just finished work and was picking up some food for dinner when he saw the most beautiful woman drop her keys. "Excuse me. You dropped your keys." he said and you turned around. "Thank you so much. I've had such a hectic day." you reply. He smiles and you smile back. "Yeah I know what that's like today was my first day back to work since my daughter was born 2 years ago. "Well I'm sure your wife is happy you're going back to work" you joke. "Actually her mom and I aren't together she left right after Layla was born." he replies. "I'm sorry to hear that." you say. "Well have a nice day." you say turning to leave. "Wait! Would you like to have dinner sometime?" he asks. You turn around. "I'd like that. I'm Y/N" you reply. "Eddie" he says. "Here's my number you say writing it down. "Call me" you say and walk around the corner.

Layla's eyes light up when she sees Eddie. "Dwaddy!" she yells excitedly. "Hey princess, I missed you" he says picking her up. She babbles to him all about her day. "After they get in the car Eddie tells her that they are having dinner tonight with a woman he met at the store. "Do wou knwow her?" Layla asks. "Not really but she's really kind and I think you'll like her." he replies. "Let's just hope she likes me" he mumbles under his breath.

They arrive at the restaurant and see you sitting at a table. "Hey. Hope you don't mind I brought my little princess." he says helping Layla into the booth. "I don't mind at all." you reply. "I'm Y/N. It's nice to meet you Layla" you say. She turns to her dad and he smiles at her. "Sorry she's a little shy but once you get to know her she doesn't shut up" Eddie tells you. "That's okay. I hope to be seeing more of you two." you say. Eddie smiles.

After dinner you walk Eddie and Layla to his car and he gives you a kiss on the cheek goodnight. "Hope to see you again soon, Eddie. And you too Layla." you say bending down when you speak to her. "I had a really good time tonight. Talk soon. Bye Y/N" he says. "Say bye" he encourages Layla. She lifts up her tiny hand and waves. You wave back and hop into your car.

Joe’s Weather Blog: Weekend system to watch…then a chilly next week (THU-3/8)

Good afternoon…I’m on my way up to Trenton, MO this afternoon to talk severe weather spotting. March is a fickle month in the US…with mostly the exception of the deep south, where the cold fronts don’t penetrate as far south as they have during the winter (mostly)…we tend to go all over the place for temperatures. Chilly…seasonable…warm all in the bag..usually in March. As a result of this…surface storms love strengthening when different temperature regimes are in place. So hang on…interesting weather is coming over the next few weeks.

Forecast:

Tonight: Mostly clear and chilly with lows in the mid 20s

Friday: Mostly sunny and milder with highs well into the 50s

Saturday: mostly cloudy with some sprinkles or light rain showers possible, especially later in the day and into the evening. Highs 50-55°

Sunday: There may be some rain in the area…and there is the possibility of some wet snow as well. It’s something to watch for grassy accumulations especially. Highs only in the 40-45° range with a lot of clouds.

Discussion:

Another chilly day out there today…and after tomorrow…there is more chilly weather coming. So far this month we’re running more than 4° above average but March is a month where the average highs and lows quickly go up. Today the average high is 52° and the average low is 30°. By the end of the month it’s 61°/38°

Ask the folks back east about March…they got slammed pretty good by a nor’easter yesterday although the snowfall ranged from nuisance to something much worse. Since for many it was a heavy wet snow…lots of trees came down and that resulted in millions without power.

As of this afternoon some 1 million customers are still without power. MA alone has over 330,000. It’s getting better slowly.

The hardest hit was NW NJ up into W MA and S NH. This is great news for the ski areas up there heading towards Spring Break. More higher elevation snows are likely in New England as well for a couple of more days to.

For us…well…that would be the equivalent of about 6 seasons like what we’re experiencing now. We’re still stuck just shy of 6″.

Maybe we could add a pinch to that Sunday but temperatures may not cooperate. There is a disturbance up towards western Canada that will be dropping into the Plains. The EURO model isn’t too bullish…the GFS and NAM have something going on because the latter two models have a more cognizant upper level storm dropping into KS or at least closer to the KC area. Should that work out…we may well see a conversion to wet snow Sunday AM…and perhaps some accumulations.

When I looked at the GFS this morning…I will say it did weirdly bring back memories of my epic forecast failure from early FEB when we had that 1-3″ snow fall in about 2-3 hours on that Sunday. I shuddered. There is a difference though…we won’t nearly be as cold in the lower part of the atmosphere this time as we were back in FEB. With that said…I’m not ruling anything out for this right now.

Let’s just say it’s something to monitor for the next 48 hours.

Then we’ll be somewhat chilly MON>WED of next week.

Day 1 - Character Appreciation/Throwback

Day 2 of SWAW has two themes: Penguins and Greek Mythology! One is mentioned in her Tokyo diamond scene as an interest, while the other is connected to her love for astronomy.

Sloane is a huge penguin fan, and even wins one at an arcade in Tokyo with the MC's help. She speaks about how penguins inspire her with their bravery and having so little fear of human beings. She even tells us about how Magellanic penguins mate for life. Symbolically, penguins symbolize many things: hope, resilience, love, faithfulness. It would be great to explore her love for Penguins, or even just feature them in a story!

While Greek Mythology is not Sloane-specific in the series, it is her diamond scene that introduces the imagery that becomes such an essential part of PM's storytelling. She equates her own friendship with Hayden to that of Artemis and Orion, for instance, and explains how different cultures interpret constellations differently. It would be great to explore Sloane in this light as well!

Any content is welcome! Fanfic, fanart, edits, moodboards, interactive media, headcanons, meta, even simple posts and screenshots of scenes! Just make sure it's positive content centered around Sloane only.

Constellation Stories

This is part of Sloane's diamond scene on the train to Moscow! Towards the end of this scene, the two lovers chat about the stars, and Sloane speaks to the MC about how humans have been interpreting the constellations over centuries and across cultures. I found it such an amazing scene and it really tells you how deep her interests in space and astronomy go.

Like many other countries and indigenous traditions, I've also, as a desi, grown used to a different set of stories about the constellations and celestial objects from the usual Greek mythology tales (like in one tradition there are stars that are considered to be the wives of the moon, and the story about the waxing and waning phases attributed to a curse. I also remember that in some places the Ursa Major was called saptarshi (referring to seven sages that are important to many Hindu/Indian traditions here)). So this explanation of Sloane definitely resonated with me.

I can see Sloane being into PC gaming and Dungeons and Dragons, so I made a gaming mood board to highlight that.

Lol I had to! I put Sloane in the most scientific looking Pretty Panda Princess costume from the Bachelorette Party, the Keynesian Princess Economist Panda costume that Diana wore. I don't think Sloane would be a die hard fan of the show, but she would definitely think all the Pretty Panda Princesses were cute. Steve would be the die hard "fanda" lol

A/N: I kinda HC Sloane as growing up on Pingu, a British-Swedish stop motion animated classic. It was a fave of mine as a kid, and I later found out that many autistic kids - esp those who use more nonverbal communication - are fond of it.

"You two should go home now," Sloane grumbles, her voice almost muffled underneath her Milky Way Galaxy blanket. "I'm fine, really."

And she isn't lying. She hasn't suffered a fever in four days now, and though her throat still feels sore, the sandpaper sensation of using her voice doesn't burn as ferociously as it did a week ago.

Residual throatache and general tiredness. That's all that's left of this awful flu.

Iris ignores her. "Hazel, honey, put on some Pingu," she calls out, frowning over a pot of steaming chicken soup. "'Pingu the Chef' is her favourite."

Hazel's head is buried inside her cupboard of old keepsakes from her mom's home. "Coming!" She yells back to Iris, holding a well-worn penguin in her hand.

She tosses it playfully in the direction of Sloane's bed. "What did you finally name this one?"

Sloane has only enough energy to offer a weak smile. "Katie Bouman." She doesn't remember what she'd named it when Mom gave it to her. "To keep you company at your first ever Space Camp," she'd said, brushing a soft kiss over her forehead. They'd both been so nervous then. Little Trudy had never stayed overnight away from home, away from Mom.

It was one of the few things Sloane took back with her when she'd visited Mom a few years ago, just before Khaan and the group set in motion their plans to defeat Eros. Sloane shivers as she remembers her sense of dread that day, wondering if this would be the last time she'd ever visit this room. How she swallowed the lump in her throat when she saw the worry in Mom's eyes, the questions Sloane couldn't bring herself to answer.

Hazel frowns at Sloane's involuntary shudder, enfolding her in her thick blanket and tucking Katie into her weak arms.

The two settle back on the bed, backs against the bedstand, as the titular little penguin throws corn kernels into a hot pan. His baby sister watches, jumping up and down when the yellow seeds puff up and turn white.

"What?" Hazel mouths when she sees Sloane silently giggling. She covers her mouth, already anticipating one of her favourite parts in the episode; Pingu's sister fooling her brother into looking away before stealing his share of kernels.

Pingu stares for a second at the empty pan, then glares after his baby sister, his beak already stretching to form the shape of a trumpet horn.

"Noot noot!"

Hazel guffaws, slapping her thigh. "He looks so cute when he does that."

Sloane's laughter is significantly fainter, yet carries the same note of joy and amusement. "Mom says when I first started watching Pingu, I wouldn't stop saying 'noot noot' for a whole month."

Iris comes out of the kitchen as she says this, bowl of soup in hand. Sloane breathes in the scent of roasted garlic emanating from it with a sigh of pleasure. On Sloane's laptop screen, Pingu takes out an obscenely large amount of corn kernels and throws them in a far larger pot.

"It's a very versatile word," Hazel says, grinning, "You could say it when you're excessively happy... excessively distressed..."

"... excessively pissed off at annoying younger siblings who steal your food from right under your nose..." Iris adds, winking in Sloane's direction. Hazel is surprisingly quiet in the middle of all the teasing.

Sloane has enough energy to half-heartedly elbow Iris in the ribs. "You damn well deserved a few noot noots for nicking my Ben&Jerry tub on your first day here."

Iris looks all injured innocence. "I didn't do that, Dipper did."

"Very nice, very 'the dog ate my homework', Iris," Hazel mocks gently, rolling her eyes at her girlfriend before looking at Sloane. "Did you always do that?"

"Do what?" Sloane takes slow, lingering sips of her soup, savoring its warmth. Pingu and his sister are now panicking over a mile-long trail of popcorn strewn over their kitchen floor.

"Repeat phrases no matter the context? In some of the childhood stories you've told me so far, you'd done that with other words."

Echolalia, the first therapist they'd met had told Mom. She likes repeating the words, but is yet to grasp their meaning. That last thought is more imagination than memory; all she can truly recall from that visit were the tiny farm animals she had sorted in a row on a playmat, by order of height.

"Yeah," Sloane whispers, her smile a tiny bit wider as she watches Pingu take boxes of freshly made popcorn on his sled, going from house to house, using his overzealous mistake to feed an entire polar neighborhood. "I always thought of words in terms of sounds first. The more I liked the sound of something, the more I'd use it whether I knew the meaning or not. You had to show me a visual, over and over again until I connected the two, if you wanted me to understand what a word meant. It took Mom a little time to realize that."

Sloane smiles at the sight the three of them must make right now, watching a childhood favourite on a bed surrounded by all the interests and all the achievements of her adulthood. The first time she'd watching this show, Mom had been curious. She'd never shown much interest in watching anything for more than a couple minutes, making going to the cinema almost an impossibility.

But this show, with its adorable clay penguin figures who spoke a language she didn't need to understand and who forced her to read their body language instead...this show was different. This show grabbed her attention and wouldn't let go. This show stayed with her long after she stopped binge-watching it, growing into a lifelong interest in real-life penguins.

She looks up at her best friends, both so different in their body language yet so familiar. Hazel's limbs are sprawled over her bed in a sort of casual grace, as if she is owning the space. Iris rests her chin on her right knee, her head tilted as she often does when she's thinking deeply about the media she's watching. Sloane feels a frisson of familiarity as she watches her - in so many ways they're so similar; sometimes Sloane wonders how much of herself she's incorporated into Iris. There are moments when looking at her is like looking at a mirror - the same responses on a drastically different face.

Even now, if Sloane tries hard enough, she knows that some of the ways she reads people's reactions can be vaguely traced to that stressful - yet indescribably exciting - exercise of trying to understand what Pingu was doing, what Pingu was saying, what Pingu was feeling.

"Mm," Iris says, grinning as Sloane finishes off her soup. She's been showing better appetite today than she has the whole week. "looks like they managed to clear out all that excess popcorn, eh?"

Sloane smiles back. Pingu drives his sled through the snow from house to house, his beak morphing into the shape of a trumpet horn as he announces his arrival. In a sound that is no longer annoyance, or anger - but excitement.
