We're on our very final day of Sloane Washington Appreciation Week!! It's been amazing, especially since we've seen quite a few new faces this year contributing and giving Sloane lots of love. We can't wait to see what more you all have in store for us!! 💞💞💞

Tomorrow is Day 5 - our last day - and we have two themes!!

Our first theme is about Hobbies. Think about things Sloane would like outside of her job and her special interest in science. What would she do for fun? Are there things that the MC or Hayden or the group introduce her to, that she begins to enjoy? Are there things she introduces them to??

Our second is, of course, PETS! We know she loves cats, and in time she warms up to Dipper too. So this is where you can explore what kind of pets you'd like Sloane to have, if any, and how she takes care of them 😍

As always, any form of appreciation is welcome! Fanfic, fanart, meta, edits, moodboards, playlists, headcanons, interactive media, even screenshots of favourite scenes or simple posts about your love for her!! Our only requirement is that you center Sloane in your work, and that the depiction is positive!

We also accept WIPs - we know irl can be hard and you may not always get the time to finish off stuff, so do show us a WIP of what you're working on if you're comfortable! We keep our event open even after the deadline (the deadline is mostly for our thank you video!) so you can send in your work anytime as well.

A friendly reminder that these are merely themes for you to use. It isn't completely necessary for your content for a particular day to be posted on that day only. You can post something you intended for Day 2 when Day 5 is on, as long as you tag the post for the day you meant it for.

SWAW Day 5: Hobbies & Pets

I can see Sloane being into PC gaming and Dungeons and Dragons, so I made a gaming mood board to highlight that.

Lol I had to! I put Sloane in the most scientific looking Pretty Panda Princess costume from the Bachelorette Party, the Keynesian Princess Economist Panda costume that Diana wore. I don't think Sloane would be a die hard fan of the show, but she would definitely think all the Pretty Panda Princesses were cute. Steve would be the die hard "fanda" lol

I think Sloane would be a cat person. So she would end up adopting 2 so they wouldn't be lonely. They both require more attention than she expected and even though they loved to interrupt her work, she wouldn't trade them in for anything!

Headcanon: Sloane as an Author of Children's Books

• Sloane's interest in writing stories began a little late, at around 10 years of age. The thing about the way Sloane holds interest in a hobby is that she tends to hyperfocus on one or two and won't leave that till another one captures her interest enough. And for little Trudy, that initial interest was and is always going to be in science, coding and hands-on experimenting.

• Sloane has always had a bit of a fertile imagination, that she supplemented with things she read about, esp related to science and fantasy.

• Part of her inspiration came from her English teacher at the time, Jessica Bass, who felt Sloane's fertile imagination could be put into great use in fictional writing if she nurtured that talent enough. Mrs. Bass would often suggest a few assignments to Kim, Trudy's mother, who also taught at the same school.

• It also helped to a great extent that Trudy was best friends with Mrs. Bass' son Isiah, who loved writing! The two teamed up on storytelling and writing exercises together. A story on space explorers that they co-wrote featured in a science digest for kids when they were 12!

• Unfortunately, Mrs Bass and Isiah had shifted to another state when the two kids were 15, and a lot of Sloane's momentum, and drive to write fizzled out without someone to bounce her ideas off of.

• The last thing she'd tried to write at the time was a space odyssey called Across the Void. Very impressive and detailed for her age, but she still felt like she wasn't fully into writing it. She had to force herself to complete the whole thing, and often couldn't bring herself to read that draft again.

• Cut to two decades later, when Sloane is still in NY, living her best life and now the CEO of Eros. As things begin to stabilize at the company, with relations between the organisation and the Unity for Matches (Psyche) in a good place and the surviving Matches feeling comfortable enough to live functional, independent lives - Sloane gets a bit more time to pursue old interests that she'd thought she was no longer any good at.

• Like her Momma Kim, she does want to encourage more children to see science as fun. She begins to get in touch with schools and educators, eventually starting a STEM-based summer camp for kids and pre teens. As she starts caring for Hamza and then having her own children, she visits kids' libraries more, and starts getting interested in writing for children.

• A STEM-based Book Festival is planned in the upcoming year for kids in NYC, and a popular kids' publishing house comes up with a pitch for Sloane (a very famous scientist and science educator by then) to co-write a set of books in time for release at the festival. The person she is meant to partner with is her old friend from Queens - famed children's book author and illustrator, Isiah Bass.

• The two had kept in touch off and on through letters and email all through their late teens, before losing touch eventually once university and work took over. This reunion was a pleasant surprise to both of them, even though they'd kept tabs on each other from time to time.

• Sloane was understandably nervous when the offer came up, but Isiah was super proactive and helped her out with resources, writing exercises and prompts just to build her confidence in her ability to write a compelling story. He showed her what his writing process looked like, gave her a view of his concepts moodboard. Isiah told her that exercise was particularly useful in getting him to keep track of his ideas and maintain flow.

• Even after this particular project is over, Sloane is determined not to lose touch with her writing, and at least tries to participate in ChiBoWriMo* with her friends in the children's author community every November.

• She keeps a specific room in her home decorated and ready for just writing practice. Files and folders full of notes and ideas, moodboards on the wall for her writing projects, her favourite music, scented candles to keep her calm. It even has a calm down corner whenever she feels a bit stuck and needs to get out of a rut.

• Sloane and Isiah's first collaboration, a book named A Slice of Pii, was an instant hit. It was a fun math-based book, and followed by books on the chemistry of baking and physics-themed books as well. They got a LOT of publicity at the festival and Sloane shot to fame as an aspiring children's book author overnight. She became very in demand for more projects, but always maintained that it was a side hustle, with her main job still being science-specific education and heading Eros with Khaan.

• One of Sloane's greatest achievements as a writer is her collection of books on galaxies and constellations, which released around Oct (World Space Week), four years after her debut. The books were informative, but in a way that was fun and approachable. The series won her the Orbis Pictus award that year.

Our last theme for the month is in honour of the International Day of Women and Girls in STEM! As we all now, Sloane's professional background is in coding, and she has an avid interest in astronomy and science fiction. She is also someone who idolizes inspiring women, especially women who work in STEM fields. Her own mother instilled in her a healthy curiosity that led her to be as interested and proficient in science as she now is. Today would be a great time to explore Sloane's affinity and love for this field!

Any content is welcome - as long as it centers Sloane and is a positive depiction of her. Fics, art, edits, moodboards, interactive media, headcanons, appreciation posts...even screenshots of your favourite scene!

WIP: Once In 50,000 Years

This is a fic I hoped to have ready for SWAW, but unfortunately I got too drained by the end of the week to start work on it. I still hope to write it though!! It features Sloane, her mom Kim, the MC Basil and my Adventurer Hayden Sage!

Here are the highlights:

- Sloane, Basil, Sage, Kim and Dipper want to see the comet C2022/E3, also known as the Green Comet

- The speciality of this beautiful astronomical sight is that this comet appears on Earth's orbit only once in 50000 years which means that the last time it was sighted, Neanderthals were walking on the earth.

- They could easily see it from their backyard tbh, but the four of them really badly wanted a road trip

- Sage is currently going to university, attending a meteorology course, and dating a fellow classmate. Her girlfriend Nilukshi was the one who mentioned it to her.

- One scene of Basil, Sloane and Sage speaking on their phones to their other partners (Basil to Damien, Sloane to Khaan and Sage to Nilukshi)

- The three discuss in the course of the road trip the possibility of revealing Sage's Match status to Kim.

- Hopefully some kissing in a tent and campfire dates? 😃

Welcome to our third edition of Sloane Washington Appreciation Week!! This gorgeous, adorable, kick-ass, incredibly relatable woman with her love for science, her admiration for ambitious, knowledgeable women and her endless capacity for bravery - she's been such an integral part of the Perfect Match story 💜

Every year, we try to celebrate her around Feb 11th, which is International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This year's themes are a mix of some of the previous years, along with some exciting new ones! We hope you're inspired by them.

This event will be held from February 11th to 15th. Any content is welcome, as long as it is Sloane-focused and shows a positive depiction! Fanfic, fanart, meta, edits, moodboards, playlists, headcanons, interactive media - even simple appreciation posts and screenshots of fave scenes will be great!

Here's a list of the themes we have for SWAW 2024:

Day 1 of our second-ever Sloane Washington Appreciation Week begins TOMORROW!!

Tomorrow also happens to be (in most years) the International Day for Women and Girls in STEM, and what better way to celebrate this day, than to celebrate one of Choices' most illustrious scientists, Sloane Washington!! She's an inspiration in so many ways. Struggles with social anxiety, loves coding and astronomy, writes bomb science fiction!

She is also an inspiration to women and girls outside of her scientific pursuits. She's brave, smart, and more resilient than she thinks! Both her mother and her are amazing - and each of Sloane's relationships with the women in the group particularly - whether it's Nadia, Alana or f!Hayden - are rich with humour, affection and solidarity!! Which is why our second theme for today is Girl Power!!

Today, we celebrate Sloane as the girl who looked up to so many scientists, and the woman who will become the scientist so many girls will look up to! 🥰

Any and all creative works are welcome!! Fanfic, fanart, meta, edits, moodboards, playlists, headcanons, interactive media...even screenshots of your favourite scenes!! Our only requirement is that the pieces should be Sloane-centric and show a positive depiction of her!

We received some beautiful "star-studded" entries today. Tomorrow is a new day with new themes, and we're also almost midway through our appreciation week!

We have three themes you can choose from today, and you can choose either just one or a combination. Our first theme is Throwback! Send us any pieces you may have made of Sloane in the past, and if you feel like it, definitely do take us through your process of creating that piece!!

Our second theme is Character Appreciation. You're free to interpret this any way you like... just think of what you love most about Sloane's character, and anything that perfectly depicts/illustrates that!

Our final theme for today is Friendship! We all know that Sloane starts out in this series a little under confident about her ability to make friends. And yet, her charm, kindness and unique ways of showing affection win over even the people who started out mistrusting her. This day will also be dedicated to exploring Sloane's friendships!!

We got some lovely entries for Day 1! Tomorrow is Day 2, and our theme for the day will be Written in the Stars!!

In a lot of ways this is a segue from today's theme about women in STEM, as Sloane's clear love for stars is very much rooted in science!! Astronomy and astrophysics are subjects she seems to take great interest in, and stargazing is one of the first few pastimes she and Hayden share together! She is in fact so knowledgeable in this field that she's actually qualified enough to be part of NASA if she chose!

But her interest in stars also lies in the stories people tell of them, and how different cultures look at the same constellations and see different things. She is also a storyteller (and while some of us are not the happiest that they had her be the author of AtV!) and her interest in the mythology made behind astronomical objects is so fascinating too!!

Tomorrow, we celebrate both the astronomy whiz and the storyteller in Sloane!
