Obligatory Infinity Train Fanfic Plug I Guess

I have some new followers since I posted about my Infinity Train cosplay process so I guess now's a good time to plug my boring overly-long fanfics that are mostly sad and stuff.

SHIPPING FICS

RYMIN:

Ain't No Cure For Love: Ryan and Min-Gi perform their first gig in Montreal. Min-Gi wants to confess his feelings. (First fic I ever wrote probably a bit rough now and the only fic without any sort of theme besides "love wins" i guess) It Can't Be Helped: Takes place in the mid-2000s when Ryan and Min-Gi's band have become quite successful and are touring East Asia. Ryan has some cultural identity issues to overcome at the age of like, 40-something. (This one is much much better than the first Rymin fic, and is about more than just shipping. I did a ton of research into Japanese-Canadians and Korean-Canadians for it as well! Shout-out to my partner for his huge role in shaping this fic as he is Japanese-Canadian himself.)

GRIMON:

Raison d'Etre (PART 1) (PART 2): Post-Canon AU where Simon survives the Train. Grace and Simon spend about 4 years apart from each other living their own lives on Earth, but one day Grace shows up randomly in Quebec to pay Simon a visit. Traumatic wounds get reopened, things get emotional, philosophical, maybe even a little... sociopolitical? Also interspersed between Grace and Simon's little dates are flashbacks to the Train that explain exactly how Simon managed to leave the Train in this AU.

I separated it into two halves because the second half contains smut. However, the second half kind of needs to be read for there to be a complete story. The smut is entirely skippable and doesn't contribute to the overarching plot so I do encourage you to read both halves.

(Also of note is that this takes place not in the "present" but in the past (2018), because I am An Old Person(TM) and so I made Grace and Simon millennials. And I also didn't want to write about the pandemic. It's not that noticeable and you can ignore that timeline fuckery if you want.)

True Love Waits: (VERY VERY CURSED) Sort of not a shipping fic? But Grace gets pregnant here and we all know who the father is! So Grace needs to leave the Train before the baby is born. Canon complacent so Simon is dead. (TW: other than pregnancy there's also thoughts of self-harm and mentions of abortion)

Leave It In My Dreams: Grace's sad nightmare in Alma Mater but from Simon's perspective.

Shame On You, Blue-Eyed Fox: Grace lets her guard down and harassed by a rookie cop. Simon finally makes himself useful for once in his entire life. (TW: real world racism obviously.)

GENERAL FICS

Alma Mater: Post-Canon. Tulip starts college, is very typically Tulip about it, but she befriends an older student named Grace Monroe who helps her through it. However, Tulip comes to learn that she and Grace have more in common than they realized at first. Also Jesse and Lake get thrown into the mix and drama ensues. (Mostly canon complacent except for 1. time period, and 2. Grace is from California, not DC, but her parents work in DC.)

Initial State: A side story to Raison d'Etre. After Simon realizes he's wrong he works with the Cat to bring his number down and leave the Train. But this isn't as easy as he thought especially when he meets a denizen he's recently met before, but never expected to meet again (becausehekilledherlol).

Semi-Automatic Lonely Boy: Prequel to Raison d'Etre. Just a series of vignettes of Simon's life after returning to Earth. (TW: depictions of self-harm) Other than It Can't Be Helped, this is the other fanfic that I am the most proud of so far. Literally went and relearned French to write some of the dialogue in this.

I'll Get It Right Sometime (ongoing): Four years after Book 3, Hazel and Amelia have a pretty decent life on the Train. But this peace is interrupted when Hazel meets a passenger and decides to help him through the Train. How can Amelia keep Hazel safe? Who is this passenger anyway? Why is the Cat so interested in interfering? Why is Simon somehow involved?! Why is JESSE somehow involved?!?!??! (Note: I think Hazel ages normally, so she's 10 years old in this one.) This is also my most ambitious fanfic yet. I have an Entire Homestuck Reference chapter, a Reddit chapter, and I plan to have several Discord chapters.

I think we should've gotten a full book about the cat. Just hear me out lol

I would have loved that! Think about it, the one character who shows up in every book. Plus, we have no backstory on her or almost any of the denizens besides one-one and tuba. Imagine how many questions that could answer. Like, do denizens have childhoods?? Kez said that she was, in fact, baby at some point, right? Also, who gives them their names? Do they choose? Previous passengers they met? Did One give them names? Maybe it was just something built into their memory... why do some denizens know more about the train than others? Why does kez seem to have a perfect understanding of how it works and what it is while Tuba didn't even know how the numbers worked?? I get what happened with Jeremy, but she literally describes it almost perfectly?? (Despite her wording of "in a pocket")

I'm getting off track, but either way, it would maybe answer some of these questions. Plus, I think it'd be a great end to the series! Our first denizen focused book (I don't usually count Lake as a denizen) where there's no worry of their number or lack of one. What I believe is the third character we meet in the show? Instead of some other passenger? It'd be so much more interesting to me! Denizens have problems, too, and I want to know what made the cat the way she is. Why does she always have that mindset of "why should I do this if I don't get anything out of it?" Was there something else that stopped her from going back for simon?? Past trauma, maybe?? What car did she start in? Where is she from?? How did she manage to obtain all that she has on the train??

Ough, this is so unorganized, but I can't stop thinking about it! She's a personal favorite of mine, and I'd just love to see more. It'd be great to add more to her character. Going back to ending the show with her book, I think it'd be really exciting to watch. Maybe we get to see her finally drop that act she always has. Improve as a person? I know some of this could also probably be covered in book 5, but I just can't help but imagine it.

Alas, the rest of my thoughts are too scrambled to ramble to you here, so that is all for now. Might add onto this later if I think of more. For now, I will continue to wait semi patiently for the show to be continued eventually. (I will stubbornly believe it's going to happen until I die)

Decided to drop another character ask. This time about Samantha the Cat

1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

I love her because she truly is insufferable and I love that.

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

I just love that Ryan's was willing to try and flirt his way out of a situation with the cat. The cat.

Also she may or may not have a relationship with a bear named Frank who turned up once.

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

All the French she knows she learned from Simon

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

At first I didn't like her for getting Tulip to betray One-One, but then I realised she's just a very proper True Neutral chaos gremlin and she's funny

Attempting to deal with some of my feelings regarding Infinity Train Book 3. Again. And probably failing. Again

Everyone else has normal or even cute headcanons for Infinity Train like Jesse is bisexual, or Tulip is a lesbian, or Tulip is acearo, or Lake would become a metalhead, or Ryan and Min-Gi would listen to The Smiths (all of which I think makes a lot of sense) but my headcanons are all more cursed. Such as:

Hazel isn't a clone of Alrich, but Amelia's biological daughter, which she had after she boinked a failed clone of Alrich that turned into a turtle person.

Or

Most Train cars follow Westworld rules. So after a certain amount of time, the vast majority of denizens reset after following passengers around, and that Tuba's entire role is to be a grieving mother, so every time the Jungle Car resets Tuba's child is alive again, but then dies, and then Tuba's grief is used to help passengers deal with their own grief. (Also this means that when the Jungle Car gets out of quarantine Tuba will be alive again but won't remember Hazel, which is also extremely sad in a different way.)

Or

When the Train in the past took away passengers' belongings, it would also take away stuff like prescription medication, which would be very bad for certain passengers who need antidepressants or antipsychotics, or other medication that they need in order to survive, like asthma inhalers. More fun ways for the Train to indirectly kill passengers yay!

Also another headcanon I have is that The Cat doesn't actually speak French and just pretends she does to sound uppity/fancy. But that one isn't cursed it's just a normal one.

This has been sitting in my ask box for some time (I hope you'll forgive the delay @dr-colossal-pita!) This story ties into the text fic, A Little Mess. I hope you enjoy it!

Story: Open Heart (Post Series) Pairing: Tobias x Casey Carrick (F!MC) Characters: Samantha Carrick (F!OC), Pietro (Original Cat), and Ethan Ramsey (mentioned). Rating: General Words: 726 Summary: Casey's on maternity leave and enjoying a quiet day at home with her family - until there's a little mystery to solve.

It was a rarity in the Carrick household, a quiet afternoon where Tobias and Casey found themselves calmly preparing dinner in the kitchen. A very pregnant Casey diligently chopped vegetables at the table while Tobias began to saute chicken on the stove.

“I love days like this,” he grinned. “When we’re home together, everything is nice and peaceful, and we can just make dinner together and enjoy each other’s company.”

Casey smiled from across the way, about to tell him not to tempt fate when...

CRASH!!

They exchanged glances before rushing into the living room. “You had to go and say it, didn’t you?” Casey sighed, looking at her favorite vase shattered on the floor. “I loved that vase!”

“Unlike the hideous one Ethan broke,” Tobias muttered under his breath.

Casey turned to him with a smile, “So you admit you never liked that vase?”

“I'll never admit it in front of him,” Tobias simpered.

As the two of them began sweeping up the pieces, they noticed their toddler, Samantha, standing nearby, her eyes wide as she stared up at them. Pietro, the cat, was perched on the arm of the couch, watching the scene unfold with an unreadable expression.

“OK, Sammy,” Tobias asked. “Do you know what happened?”

Samantha shook her head, her face the picture of innocence. “No, Daddy. I didn’t do it.”

Pietro flicked his tail at the same time as if to say, “Don't look at me!”

Casey crouched down beside her daughter. “Honey, did you or Pietro knock the vase over? We won’t be mad. We just want to know.”

Samantha pointed dramatically at Pietro. “He did it!” She exclaimed.

Tobias raised an eyebrow. “I think we should investigate.”

They looked at the coffee table, where the vase had stood in all its glory just moments before. A purple crayon, Samantha’s weapon of choice, was lying nearby.

“Looks like someone might’ve been coloring a little too close to the vase,” Tobias chuckled.

Samantha giggled nervously, grabbing her favorite stuffed bunny from the couch.

Casey lifted her daughter in her arms as Tobias tended to the remainder of the mess. “It’s OK if you broke it, Sammy. Accidents happen. But you should tell Mommy and Daddy the truth from now on, all right?”

“All right!” Sammy smiled, handing her bunny to Casey as a peace offering.

Tobias laughed as he watched Pietro standing nearby, observing the scene. “Well, it looks like you’re off the hook this time, buddy.”

Pietro flicked his tail in satisfaction.

“Yes,” Casey nodded. “He’s innocent this time, unlike last time when he broke a family heirloom!”

Tobias shook his head. “That wasn’t him,” he insisted. “That was Ramsey! It was on his watch; it was his fault."

“Tobias,” Casey laughed. “It was not. Poor Ethan almost had a stroke when that thing broke. Can you let him off the hook already?”

“Sure,” Tobias grinned. After sweeping the remains of the vase from the dustpan into the trash, he walked over to kiss his wife and daughter on the head. “I’ll let him off the hook just before I shut my eyes for the very last time.”

“Pietro,” Casey teased. “Did you need to get involved in this ongoing thing between your Daddy and Uncle Ethan?”

“Hey,” Tobias smiled. “Pietro and I are a team.”

Pietro jumped on Casey’s lap as she sat down with Samantha holding her close. She pat the seat beside her, beckoning her husband to join them, which he gladly did.

“I thought we were a team,” she smirked.

“We are!” Tobias insisted. “The best team. But Pietro and I have to stick together – you know – as the men of the house.”

Casey rubbed her growing belly. “Well, you insist this one is a little girl. If you’re right, we’re about to outnumber you once again soon... I guess you two have to stick together.”

MEOW! Pietro bellowed before Tobias had a chance to speak.

“That’s right, pal,” Tobias laughed, rubbing the cat under the chin. “You tell her!”

Casey rested her head on her husband’s shoulder, and he wrapped his arm around her. The entire Carrick clan nestled happily on the couch.

“I love days like this,” Tobias whispered in Casey’s ear.

He felt her tense up, then relax when nothing went wrong. “Looks like you didn’t curse it this time!”

“Of course not,” he laughed. “I made sure the usual culprits were here with us first!”
