I post Hansry almost daily, yet I did not come with any comic until now...

sam and henry are brothers. it doesn’t matter that they didn’t grow up together, that they were raised differently, or that they believe in different things — they are brothers. what connects them isn’t blood or shared memories, but martin. it’s martin’s sword, his craft, that saved henry’s life. not radzig’s nobility or name — sam never cared for radzig or henry’s agenda. to him, henry was a potential threat. but martin’s humanity is what saved him. martin was a good father — strict in some ways, but good. he taught henry many things and would have been a good father to sam too, if life had turned out differently. sam never knew him, only stories of him. yet martin is the thread that binds them together.

in many ways, sam is like martin. both have a strong sense of justice, a drive to fight for what they believe in. both are impulsive, quick to act without considering the consequences. martin rushed to defend his wife and village because he believed it was the right thing to do — but in the end, he abandoned henry. sam sought revenge for what happened to his people, convinced it was right — but in the end, he abandoned henry too.

martin’s legacy is what connects them. it’s what makes them brothers. not blood, not shared experiences — but the man they both carry within them. martin, the peasant, the blacksmith, the father. an ordinary man whose life and death shaped both of them in ways they never fully realized.

I coincidentally managed to finish this for Hansry week on the wedding theme day!

With how many times in the game Henry sings when he's drunk, he for SURE would during his own wedding. The song is a medieval version of "Uptown girl" with the lyrics tweaked a bit aha.

I tried to go with Tom's interpretation of an Hansry wedding, and this is what my brain came up with. Tom's statement can be found here.

the way sara calls him ‘my martin’ even after all those years. they really did love each other. could samuel have picked up the hammer just as well, and whistled just as lovely. do we think when henry visits them in kolin, sara recognises an old joke, redressed from twenty years ago. smiles to herself in her secret knowing. do we think henry pauses his merriment, looks at his brother and with round eyes notices the familiar, still infant wrinkles on samuel’s face. the ones he thought he’d never see again. bundled up the way pa’s did when he drank good, cool ale from the cellar. do we.
