National Rainbow Week of Action in Canada

In this post I have compiled all the information I could find regarding upcoming events for the Rainbow Week of Action. There are two online events, and dozens on in-person events across the country.

"Within the Rainbow Week of Action, we are pushing governments and elected officials at every level to take action for Rainbow Equality and address rising anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate. As such, we have identified calls to action for every level of government. These calls to action can be reviewed here."

Saskatoon Public Library sells the books it can no longer lend for $0.50 for paperbacks and $1 for hardcovers. Plus the money goes back into the local collection. They might need 60 copies of a best seller when it comes out but only 10-15 copies the next year. Check your local libraries and charities to see if they have book sales too.

Paperbacks should be $1 and hardcovers should be $2

Public School Geography by Robert M. Stevenson and Fred D. Baragar

Fred Baragar co-authored 2 manuscripts post-WWI, Public School Geography (pictured above) and Ripples from the Creek, a local history of Elm Creek, Manitoba and the surrounding area.

Public School Geography was written by Fred and Robert M. Stevenson. It was commissioned by the Educational Book Company of Toronto Ltd., and the first edition was published in 1927. Fred’s contract with the publisher was signed in 1925; it stated that Fred was to be paid a total of $500 for the delivery of the manuscript - equivalent to $7483.82 today. 

This book is not available online, but can be accessed in person at the University of Manitoba Libraries in Winnipeg, at Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa, or the University of Saskatchewan Libraries in Saskatoon.

The provincial government is turning back the page on its budget day cuts to Saskatchewan's libraries by restoring $4.8 million in funding.

That's the same as last year's funding levels.

Education Minister Don Morgan made the announcement on Monday.

"As I've indicated earlier, we're not afraid to admit we made a mistake on something," Morgan told reporters. "We've heard from people pretty clearly that they value the library in its present form. It's important for them not just to have the electronic capability, but they also want to have the physical space to go to."

Premier Brad Wall had asked Morgan to review the cuts last week after public protest as well as new poll results that showed the budget was hurting the Saskatchewan Party's popularity.

All cuts to provincial libraries have been reversed. The budget originally cut the entire $1.3 million provincial grant to libraries in Regina and Saskatoon, while regional libraries got a $3.5-million cut. The move will also save the province's library-to-library loan program.

Just email your local library and ask them to buy a copy. That’s it! Or you can go to the library and ask your friendly neighbourhood librarian in person!
