"To Malkav, Saulot gave his crown, but Malkav had nothing to offer in return — so he bit into his finger, and drew an eye upon Saulot’s brow in his own blood, and wished him safe journey."
Little sketch of my favorite morally confusing antediluvian :3

Something just hit me today:
If I lived in the WOD as a vampire I’d fucking hate the tremere. Fuck you mean you diablerized the one nigga everybody was cool with?! Wdym you abducted some low clans and turned them into gargoyles as your undying slaves??? And then you go and curse an entire clan of assassins and then get surprised when nobody fucks with you the moment you get karma back via the destruction of the pyramid? Like it’s so ridiculous no wonder everybody hates them 💀💀💀💀💀
Addendum: NOT EVEN THE TREMERE LIKE THE TREMERE!!!! THEY HAVE A LITERAL PYRAMID SCHEME AS A CLAN STRUCTURE AND GOT SO BAMBOOZELED WHEN SHIT COLLAPSED FROM THE TOP DOWN !!!!!!!

Have I ever mentioned how smitten I am with the dichotomy between Saulot "I stayed by Caine's side until the the very end" and [Ventrue] "Caine's chosen grandchilder, advisor and enforcer of his will"? Because there had to be some overlap there. Even if there aren't any (as far as I know) explicit references to them being friends, (other than the fact [Lasombra], Set, [Tzimisce], and Nosferatu were the only named Antediluvians that disliked him on a personal level in Clanbook: Ventrue) they at the very least had to be mildly acquainted with one another you know?
For a long while, [Ventrue] served at Caine’s side, helping him rule over Kindred and kine in the gilded First City. As befit their baser natures, the others of the Third Generation grew jealous of [Ventrue] and his position, particularly the over-ambitious and cunning [Lasombra]. The dark one (as Caine himself called him then) could not abide even theoretical subservience to one such as [Ventrue]. Others resented [Ventrue’s]position as well: the foreign Set, the occult [Tzimisce], the vain [Nosferatu]. For the most part, though, the remaining founders respected [Ventrue] and Caine’s decision to elevate him above the rest. After all, no one disputed Caine’s wisdom openly in those nights. - Clanbook: Ventrue, p. 12.
Of his most loyal Grandchilder, they had to have had some kind of connection - even if it wasn't anywhere nearly as strong as the Saulot/Malkav/Set triumvirate was. One sought to serve Caine and his descendants by looking outward and one, per the Dark Father's personal request, sought to serve by protecting what was within.
Maybe. Maybe they just didn't have all that much in common, now that I think about it. For Saulot, the choice to stand by the Dark Father was just that - a choice. When he was ready to up-and-leave, he was free to do so.
But there had to be an immense amount of pressure for [Ventrue] to simply buckle up his Jesus sandals and Do What He Had To Do for his brothers and sisters because his Grandsire chose him specifically to aid him in such an arduous task. How is one supposed to say no to that? To balk at such an opportunity? Caine's aged wisdom was, at the time, undisputed and he was allegedly very good at the job hefted upon him. Who was he to go against that? Do you think that Ventrue lamented Saulot's wandering? The fact that he had that choice? That he was left to guide his wayward siblings alone? Did he not care and shouldered the burden on his lonesome?

Golconda
This is a short story about a spiritual search, about the truth that only a ready mind can grasp, and about the self-sacrifice that only a sire can make for a child…

If you're a consensualist, you are doing great. There are wonderful people who would want to be bitten, but still practice moderation.

[crashes into your inbox] FINALLY A CORRECT SAULOT OPINION
listen…I love him…like yes I know vtm is supposed to be dark and vampires are dark creatures of hunger but the idea of one of them just constantly striving against his nature, trying so hard to be GOOD, is so so tasty
all the later stuff added to his background to try and make him the typical “evil” Antediluvian bores me. Yeah of course he’s going to be complex but I love the idea of turning the “all ancient vampires are irredeemably Evil who only things about themselves” trope on its head. also vampire healers? a concept that would seem to go against their nature and that he conceived of? aaa
Saulot is my favorite vtm character and I think about him constantly. absolute brainrot. there’s so little art and writing of him and I am dying out here but i’ll do it myself I guess
SORRY FOR THE RANT I search his name a lot bc he’s my fave and saw your post fjsjdjsk
Exactlyyy!! Like, sure, the whole 'Saulot is just as bad as the other Antediluvians and Golconda isn't actually a good thing and-' mindset fits the sort of grimdark lore of vtm, but its sooooo boring in comparison to Saulot actually trying to do good. Like, we already have 12 fucked up evil Antediluvians, in what world is it more interesting storytelling to have a 13th rather than one who tries to do good?
I choose to believe that all of the anti-Saulot takes are actually just Tremere propaganda

Mind if I ask your thoughts on the Baali? No reason in particular, I just find them neat
Not at all, but if you like them you, uh, you may not like my answer. I've upset a few folx with my position on their fave bloodlines over the years...
I think they're superfluous. We have a theistic left hand cult already – gesturing at the Ministry, who made a lot more sense to me when I rediscoved Michael Aquino's Temple of Set – and they already suffer from coherency and appeal problems without having this other bloodline that has two thirds of their Discipline set.
I've never liked infernalism – I see it as a way to crowbar "worse monsters" into the game so there's always someone you can feel good and righteous about opposing, and if I could do my VTDA game over again without it, I would.
I've never liked any religious position as one clan or bloodline's hat. It just about works with the Ministry – they're the priesthood, you can only ever be laity – but that's not the way previous devs have implemented the matter. I also find the "re-Embrace, u change clan now" mechanic galling, undermining the definitive role of the clans in the setting and system.
If you're going to have vampire devil worship that gives you eldritch blasts and other strange powers, I think the Path of Evil Revelations and Dark Thaumaturgy (yuck, ick, bleff, that's its own problem) are a better template than a bloodline splat IMO.
Requiem showed us how well these things can work when they're hived off from the clan structure, and I think Cults of the Blood Gods builds on that in a way that has a lot of potential.
