nothing could've ever prepared me for the presence of baccalà (salt cod) in nilfgaard
#rena.txt#me reading that like nay...it cannot mean what i think.......(checks wiki) it was really named after the italian word for salt cod...#like i already knew there are a few places that have italian names like vicovaro and fano that are irl cities as well. but looking at the#map i found so many more (spalla and scala...shoulder and stair skcjskf) but nothing hits like baccalà#brb i'm going to baccalà 🚶🏻🎣

Seriously. Where the hell is this?
It would be easy to assume that the final boss fight in KHDR takes place at the top of Scala's main tower, the same place where you finally defeat Xehanort in KH3 (poetry, it rhymes, etc.), but if this were true, there would be a lot of architectural discrepancies that would need explaining first.
First of all, the two areas just. Don't match up visually. I think you'd be forgiven for assuming that the floor design at least must be the same (since they're both so intricately detailed to the point of it being difficult to remember exactly what they look like from memory) but comparing the two directly side-by-side, they're actually not the same at all, neither in color palette nor design. Also worth noting is the fact that the floor in the KH3 location is a raised disc flanked by two ponds with lanterns, while the floor in the KHDR location appears to be the more typical square shape with no ponds in sight.
(Better view of the floor design.)
Then there's the railing. The fact that there is one at all in the KHDR location. The KH3 location doesn't have any typical "railings" to speak of, but it does have these big, spikey, railing-like decorative arches that are completely absent from the KHDR location.
You can still see this massive decorative arch adorning the tower from down below in KHDR (though the design has been partially simplified due to how far away it is); they do in fact still exist during KHDR's time. So it's seemingly not a matter of the KHDR Scala tower roof simply being a different design from KH3's.

So naturally from all of this you'd assume that the final boss fight in KHDR simply takes place somewhere else, right? But wait, Vidar refers to the location as "the tower" with no further description of the location aside from saying that Odin meditates there (suggesting that, amongst Scalans, it's obvious what "the tower" means), and Baldr refers to the final battle location as "somewhere worthy of the occasion", and what other structure in Scala would possibly qualify as a "tower" worthy of summoning Kingdom Hearts? I can't think of any. And it'd be kind of weird to have the epic final showdown take place in some random building we've never heard of/seen before now.
Complicating things even further is the "Tower of Trials" game mode/event from the original online version of KHDR, where you were tasked with climbing and fighting through 100 FLOORS of enemies, and like...what structure other than the main tower could possibly have 100 floors? (For reference, some of the tallest skyscrapers in the world have around 100+ floors give or take.) Also, the battle maps are identical to the ones seen in KHDR's finale, suggesting that the "Tower of Trials" and the endgame tower are one and the same.
youtube
Now, admittedly though, the graphic used to represent the "Tower of Trials" doesn't really look like the main Scala tower at all. And the flat top certainly does a better job of resembling the KHDR finale location. But I also can't recall any specific impossibly tall buildings in KH3 Scala that look like this + have the same roof floor design, and maybe it's just meant to vaguely look like a Rook chess piece rather than be a super accurate silhouette of the tower it's representing.
So, in conclusion,
*Roxas voice* What is going ON!?
*EDIT* Quick note because I nearly forgot to talk about this—I thought maybe the two higher-up side areas flanking the Scala tower roof could've been it, but I checked KH3's cutscenes and no, it's just slanted roof tile (?) up there.
#khdr#kingdom hearts dark road#kingdom hearts#rambling about dim path#I get that the simplest answer is that these are in fact two different locations#But it still bugs me#khdr spoilers

trying to closely examine freya’s insane conspiracy theory lookin wall but zooming in on tiny blurry details is difficult
the big map of scala’s streets stands out. is she looking for something? plotting a stakeout? or is it just a map lol
i can’t believe horses are canon real… the crest at the bottom left is interesting too, with the series’s heart logo in there
horse drawn carriages also real HEHEHEHE
what’s with the triangle thing. truly not beating the illuminati conspiracy allegations. also what’s with the spiral/flower thing that’s only barely visible in a shot or two. the bottle is self explanatory though obviously that’s opium. no but really what’s that supposed to be important for lol
master’s defender! now obviously that’s culturally important to the people of scala but like why is that on the board here hmmm?
who are these people 🤔 the first looks just like one of those city guards we saw but the second??? it’s giving like. american civil war general. that is a middle aged man. kh where are the adult characters. show us the adults kh

All three! Apologies. I want to learn as much as I can about him.
You got it!
The first text that Galahad appears in is the Vulgate. His predecessors and legacy are first described in The History of the Grail; then he’s conceived, born, and raised during the Lancelot books; finally in Post-Vulgate he’s a knight on Grail Quest where he achieves his life’s purpose and passes away. Additionally, here’s A Companion to The Lancelot-Grail Cycle which may help you navigate the text.
Another book I suggest for your Galahad research is The Legend of the Grail by Nigel Bryant and Norris J. Lacy. It’s got a lengthy introduction about the history of the Grail story and touches on all the characters who’ve achieved it throughout Arthurian literary history including Perceval, Gawain, and of course, Galahad. Each chapter is taken from a different text and newly translated by Nigel Bryant for this publication. It’ll give you an idea of the progression of the Grail story which eventually led to Galahad and introduce you to some adjacent texts that may be of interest.
The next medieval text that includes Galahad is La Tavola Ritonda. It’s mostly a Prose Tristan story, but does cover the whole Grail Quest with a fun Italian Galahad named Galeazzo/Galasso. I enjoy this one a lot! Regarding Galasso specifically, it’s an interesting take on the character—he’s described as very gracious and he wields a cool named sword. Plus his purity grants him necromancy powers—at one point he convenes with the dead and doesn’t bat an eye. Just keeps on adventuring. Focused. In his lane. Pretty neat!
After that comes probably the best known Arthurian text, Le Morte d’Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory. I’ve attached the version of this story abridged by Keith Baines. It’s much easier to read with proper formatting to add quotation marks to dialogue and tighten up the prose. This one also comes with A Companion to Malory which I found exceedingly helpful in breaking down the sometimes convoluted plot threads and character dynamics present in Malory’s story. Many of the essays I’ve attached below relate to this text specifically.
Lastly I would be remiss to exclude The Arthurian Handbook by the goats Norris J. Lacy and Geoffrey Ashe. This volume not only covers medieval texts, but much of the art history that goes hand in hand with Arthurian literature too. There are many paintings, tapestries, stained glass windows, and murals featuring Galahad highlighted in this book. It also includes family trees, heraldry, and maps which can help you conceptualize things detailed in writing throughout the Vulgate.
Now I’m going to list essays without descriptions since there are so many and the titles are pretty self explanatory.
Absent Fathers, Unexpected Sons: Paternity in Malory’s Morte Darthur by Cory Rushton
Born-Again Virgins and Holy Bastards: Bors and Elyne and Lancelot and Galahad by Karen Cherwatuk
Constructing Spiritual Hierarchy through Mass Attendance in the Morte Darthur by David Eugene Clark
Disarming Lancelot by Elizabeth Scala
Galahad, Percival, and Bors: Grail Knights and the Quest for Spiritual Friendship by Richard Sévère
'A Mayde, and Last of Youre Blood': Galahad's Asexuality and its Significance in Le Morte Darthur by Megan Arkenberg
Gender and the Grail by Maureen Fries
Malory and Rape by Catherine Batt
Mothers in the Grail Quest: Desire, Pleasure, and Conception by Peggy McCracken
Seeing Is Believing and Achieving: Viewing the Eucharist in Malory's 'Sankgreal' by Sarah B. Rude
Wounded Masculinity: Injury and Gender in Sir Thomas Malory's "Le Morte Darthur" by Kenneth Hodges
And that about covers it! This should give you plenty to work with. Beyond these, we’re left with literature outside the medieval era, which is a different conversation. No doubt Alfred Lord Tennyson had a huge influence on how Galahad is perceived today, but that’s irrelevant to a discussion regarding medieval source material, and a topic for another time. Hope this helps you out and you learn all you want to about Galahad!
Take care!

Do you have any screenshots of your favorite details from KHUX?
HAHAHAHAHA, yeah I do
Gonna just drop a read more here 'cause if y'all know me at all you know this post is probably gonna be 10KM long lol
So, I'm gonna try to hold myself back a little because I literally have like 10 pages of notes about specifically stuff in the backgrounds and I doubt the internet will find my bench and lamppost count interesting. (Also image limit lol)
I'll list just 4 things for now (in no particular order) and talk about them a bit underneath.
NUMBER 1 || STREET SIGNS
So there are four street signs that we’ve seen in Daybreak Town. Two are in the Fountain Square (A and B), one is in the Marketplace (C), and one is in the Clocktower Outskirts map (D).
For B and D it’s pretty easy to figure out what the represent. B is a clock, probably representing the Clock Tower… or maybe the best place to see the Clocktower because it’s in Fountain Square. The overall shape of it is different from the rest of the signs so I imagine that means something. D is a gondola or canoe of some sort, which makes sense because it’s next to stairs that seemingly lead to the canal that runs through town. Maybe there’s a ferry system of some sort?

A and C I’m less sure about. The designs don’t really bring anything obvious to mind. Maybe C is Munny because it leads to the Marketplace? I’m not sure.
NUMBER 3 || DOOR UNDER FOUNTAIN SQUARE

See what makes this interesting to me isn’t just the fact that apparently Fountain Square is hollow underneath (maybe for pipe repairs or something, I don’t know) but just the general fact that a lot of structures in this town, that maybe shouldn’t be, are hollow.
If you look even some archways have windows, so there has to be an open space inside, right? Most of them seem at least connected to houses so I assume they’re basements or something. (The one by murder house gets me tho, like that’s right under the bridge. Who’s living right under the bridge)
And I also feel like this leads into the fact that, similarly but not as extreme as in Scala, Daybreak Town is kinda built on top of itself. Maybe that’s a symptom of being around so many (and possibly on) mountains but I still feel like it should be talked about more.
NUMBER 4 || LIGHTHOUSE INTERIOR MAP
There is so much to unpack here but I’ll try to keep it brief.
So I’m pretty sure this is one of, if not the oldest building in Daybreak Town. Two reasons.
1. Instead of having little wall lamps, like the rest of the town and buildings, all the light seems to come from mounted candles.
2. There are swords (A) on the walls and not Keyblades. Why would the Keyblade town not have Keyblades on its little shield emblem? Is it possibly because it was there before Keyblades?
This staircase here (B) is also the only known (not sewer drain) way into the waterways. It leads into the sewers then out to the little dock below the Lighthouse with the boat, hence the sign.
There’s these maps here (C) that I don’t really know what to say about, but is definitely worth pointing out. They’re all the same and I assume show the layout of the area surrounding the town (the darker parts being water). It could be a world map though (darker part being continents)… I don’t think we’ll ever really learn lol
And also I don’t know what this is (D) but I think it’s interesting that it has writing on it. It kinda gives me the vibe of those flat on the ground gravestones…
NUMBER 5 || BANNER
Daybreak Town actually has a flag it’s all over the place and you’ll start to see it everywhere if you look for it. They also kind of look like the banners in Radiant Garden. The colours and shape/mounting are the same but the designs on the flag itself (and mounting) is different.
I have no clue what that implies, if anything, but I figure it’s worth pointing out ‘cause it’s interesting.
#This post took a lot longer than I wanted it to lol#but I hope you enjoy my brain rot#there’s so much I could point out but I think if I did any more the post would never would've been finished lol#actually writing thoughts down is a killer lol#(like originally there were going to be 7 but for whatever reason my brain was not letting that happen)#(so I’m just letting there be the 4 lol)#khux#kh#kingdom hearts#sometimes i think about khux

(Psst, cori, were you asking for prompts with your drabble? If so, please consider: statue!)
(I was, haha, but I guess I didn't make that super obvious. And it was a little more of a niche prompt request, anyways. Statue's definitely a fun one; hope you like it!)
---
Meili had an unfortunate feeling they knew exactly who had covered the Founder’s Fountain in…well. Everything. The statue was covered in stickers and flowers and little paper cards and—Stars, tell me that’s not glitter.
(It wasn’t, on closer inspection. Still.)
Theoretically speaking, it could’ve been done by just about any child that lived in (or had access to) Scala. Theoretically, because Skuld had stopped stock-still when she’d seen the fountain, staring a moment before groaning and dropping her head in her hands.
Meili would say it was karma, if they didn’t know the local menaces would probably be visiting them later.
“…Your kids are here.”
Skuld didn’t lift her head; from behind her hands came a muffled, “Mimir was watching them.”
…Which meant that either their babysitter had been in on the prank, or they’d lost track of them, and the two had been set loose on an unsuspecting Scala. Great.
Meili sighed. They’d been supposed to talk with Skuld and some other members of the Exploration Department about plans for mapping out a new world. They supposed those plans were delayed, for the moment. “Go see if you can track them down and I’ll start cleanup.”
Skuld gave them a grateful look, then darted off.
(She and Mimir returned not long later, two squirming children in their arms. Mimir looked slightly frazzled; Norn was grinning unrepentantly, covered in leaves; Verdandi looked a little like she was going to cry; Skuld just looked apologetic.
…At the very least, the kids were as enthusiastic about helping to clean up the fountain as they’d apparently been decorating it.)
#kingdom hearts#fallen stars#my writing#the exact thought was 'i want to write about the gremlins doing pranks but it might be fun to have other people give suggestions'#(uh. of a sort anyways)#i looked back at the post later and went 'ah...that was probably not worded very well'#but that's alright haha; it was a fun day regardless!

(part 1) OKAY SO SINCE I SAW THAT MY POST IS NOW CANON OHMYGOD im gonna make some more! and this time, it's going to be a LOT MORE to be specific: 18 18 FONTS. alright let's go, i'm going to also list every type of them! soo, 3 for every type! --------------------------------- Sans-Serif Types: Proxima Nova This type of skeleton is closely related to the Comic Sans font, but is not entirely the same, due to them having a slightly more upright frame, they are slightly shorter than a Papyrus font, but not as short as a Comic Sans, standing at around 5'4. The interest that piques their curiosity is important to how they look, as a Proxima Nova that studies, for example, Astrology, would influence their bone slightly, making small star-like forms appear in them. As to opposed if they were to pursue something like Engineering, they'd likely gain sturdier, slightly thicker bones to allow for more strength, like the Impact fonts. Helvetica These skeletons are usually a tall, slim kind of skeleton, also often helping people to be able to make them stand out slightly more in the abundance of Sans-Serif fonts. These fonts are usually created by a Sans-Serif wanting to change their font, but stopping halfway. Slowly, they will start to stop using their original font, slowly changing to Helvetica. This change also makes them taller, and slimmer, so some Skeletons try to become a Helvetica due to insecurities, and these Helvetica fonts usually have a tragic backstory. The most common job these fonts take is designing clothes, specifically suits, ties, etcetera. Raleway Raleway is an elegant Sans-Serif font, perhaps the most elegant of its kind. This font usually goes to parties or gatherings to discuss with other fonts, enjoying social interaction, but slightly less than a Comic Sans. Imagine a Comic Sans, but then turning the goofy knob down slightly, and you will be left with Raleway. These fonts are usually graphic designers, hired to design logo's for businesses. For example, the 'Grillby's' bar, stationed in Snowdin, had it's logo designed by a Raleway fonted skeleton. --------------------------------- Serif Types: Baskerville This font is usually high in the rankings with the intricate designs across its bones resembling coins, or plants. These types usually become businessmen, using their beautiful marks to sway and trick customers into thinking they are more trustworthy, making Baskervilles great scammers too. But, not many Baskervilles bear such malice in their hearts, and usually use their abilities to help people become a better version of themselves, much like a Papyrus fonted skeleton. Georgia This Serif font is more closely related to the Sans-Serif types, not having fully lost it's Sans-Serif like qualities, this Serif type is still slightly like a Sans-Serif, but not fully. It bears the most resemblance to a Helvetica font, yet slightly shorter, standing at around 5'5. The marks on their bones are usually shaped in the form of numbers, but they can be easily misformed too. A perfect number pattern on a Georgia has never been captured yet, and will likely not be captured for several years to come. FF Scala Being closely related to the FFF Tusj font, this Serif type font is slightly older than other Serif fonts, but is the most modern version of the FFF Tusj. Being slightly more modern, this font is able to create more than simply Maps, and can usually also create stunning artwork. Most artworks, such as the classic 'Bone', created in 19XX, currently hanging in Sans and Papyrus' house, was created by a FF Scala font. The Papyrus font is slightly related to this font, thus also granting it its artistic abilities.
--------------------------------- im going to make 2 types per ask, because i think i'm almost hitting the limit UNTIL NEXT TIME!!
(I can just imagine you back flipping out of a window Papyrus-style with that exit hehe. Mind if I make these canon too?)

some absolutely wild speculation after watching the missing link teaser trailer several times in a row:
someone (presumably the player character, since it shows a shot of them on the ground while they mention this) washed up on the beach after a meteor shower (JUST LIKE KAIRI DID. BTW). this makes them a "drifter"
a bizarrely doubled voice (someone antagonistic?) said to turn 'them' (Player 2 again probably) over to the "founders" if they don't cooperate... those founders are mentioned again later, and seem to be in power. the founders and leaders of the different societies? Ephemer is pretty famously The founder of Scala…
speaking of which, oh boy, factions!!
astral plane connects existence and non-existence. is that supposed to refer to reality and unreality? is that how this real world gps map thing is being explained?
but unreality isn’t supposed to have heartless, so….

that ^ is a new prismatic melody :3 the only other white one is the Silver Rock and that has a different hat color
“Which one’s the calamitous star…?” I’m taking that to mean they’re referring to Player 2. and if so. damnnn is our existence causing problems in this game
“the stars- beautifully distorted- rained down” “didn’t think we were here for any old distortion” “this is a city of light and darkness, dreams and distortions” so I guess Distortion is a new key kh term to put on the pile. would love to know what it means

Continued Fractions of Polynomial Roots
Imagine you've got a polynomial, and you want the continued fraction representation of one of its roots. First things first, if you count the sign changes in the coefficients as you go from highest to lowest, you've got an upper bound on the number of roots that poly has that are positive. If the number of changes is 1 or 0, the bound is exact. This is due to Descartes. Much more here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geometrical_properties_of_polynomial_roots Now, imagine the root you care about is the largest positive root. We want to find its integer part to start our continued fraction journey. If we shift the poly by mapping x to x+1, we move that root one step towards the negative ie we subtract one from the value of its highest root. If we keep doing this, Descartes test tells us that eventually all the coefficients of the poly will have one sign, and the root will have changed from positive to negative. If we backtrack one step, we know the largest integer shift which still has one positive root. The root of that shifted poly will be the fractional part of the root we cared about, and the amount we shifted by is the first number in our continued fraction. Okay, but that's only the first term. Yeah, but all you have to do now is take your poly, substitute x -> 1/x and then multiply by x^n, where n is the degree, to get back a poly in x, whose roots are all the inverses of the roots before we transformed. And the root we care about, the inverse of the fractional part of the root we first cared about, is the only, and largest, root of the poly greater than 1. The other roots, after a few iterations, all end up in the unit disc with negative real part. This is stuff i read here https://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?doi=10.1.1.135.107&rep=rep1&type=pdf but i think its pretty well a 'folk theorem' ie, so many dudes worked it out more or less at the same time, and it just sort of moved into the general conscience. But I could be wrong. Also, for anyone implementing with a machine, some caveats. The coefficients of the poly are not well controlled. To get more than a few dozen partial quotients in the cf, you'll need arbitrary precision integers, like scala's BigInt. I shifted by increasing powers of 2, tested how many roots i had, and then used a binary search after i had an upper bound. Mostly partial quotients are low, so there just stepping through might be smarter. See the Gauss Kuzmin distribution for further guidance. https://mathworld.wolfram.com/Gauss-KuzminDistribution.html

Playing around out of bounds in the destroyed Scala map in Data Greeting and--idk if I ever noticed before that the darkness (?) tainting everything is actually blue crystal? Like, reflective and faceted and everything.
What. What does that mean.
Can darkness manifest as crystal? Is the real Scala somehow...made of crystal? Or if this is an illusion of Scala born from Xehanort's heart, is Xehanort's heart covered in this stuff?
Kairi's heart in Re:Mind being pink crystal comes to mind. Also the bad ending to the Yozora fight where Sora gets encased in blue crystal too.
