It is believed that the PSM III certification from scrum.org is considered as the toughest Scrum Master certification achievable. At the time of writing only 1.000 Scrum Masters who have earned this award.

The exam is extremely difficult because it has 30 questions, with the majority of them asking for open answers. You will need to write your answer instead of picking the correct one(s) as in PSM I and PSM II. If this seems easy enough, you'll have just two and half hour to complete the task.

I've been an Scrum Manager over about five years at present and was once an Java developer. As I was preparing for the 2020 Covid security lockdown in 2020, I was struck by the necessity to refresh my understanding regarding Scrum and the Scrum structure. That's why I chose to begin my journey to earn PSM I.

After I received an PSM I certification I had the desire to pursue PSM II and finally, I decided to try my hand at PSM III. I wanted to be able to add that "medal" to my professional list of honors. I was convinced that I had enough knowledge and experience and there was no reason to stop me from attempting. Codrigo my employer, provided me with the confidence requiredto concentrate completely on getting this highly sought-after certificate.

In February 2021 I attempted the exam for the first time. It was a bit difficult for me to get an 85% score. The answers I gave were long and I was unable to complete all questions in the stipulated time of (then still) the two-hour mark.

I chose to explore my knowledge of the Scrum framework and the way in which the Scrum Master plays his part inside the structure. With this additional information, I was hoping to be able answer questions shorter and more succinctly on the subsequent exam attempt. This was in response to the most recent changes in the Scrum Guide that were earlier released in November of 2020.

Voorbereiden op Professional Scrum Master examen

De PSM1 certificeringen zijn zeer gewild. Gelukkig zijn ze heel erg haalbaar. Om je PSM1 certificaat te halen, moet je een online toets doen op Scrum.org. Deze toets bestaat uit 80 vragen, waar je 60 minuten voor hebt. Om het te halen moet je 85% goed hebben. Vooral de tijdsdruk en het hoge percentage maken dit examen pittig.

Geen stress, als je je goed voorbereid is het goed te doen. Dus hoe voor te bereiden?

Stap 1 Lees de scrum guide

Wat we je voornamelijk aanraden te doen is de Scrum guide te lezen, een paar keer, en de belangrijke punten samenvatten. Het is aan te raden om de Engelse versie te lezen. Het uiteindelijke examen is ook in het Engels en als je de Scrum guide in het Engels gelezen hebt dan is het makkelijker om de terminologie te snappen.

Stap 2 Extra informatie

Ook staan er op scrum.org een paar video’s en blogs die vrij beschikbaar zijn die nog helpen met de voorbereiding. Het is zeker aan te raden om een aantal onderwerpen zoals burn down charts, story points, meerdere scrum teams per product etc nog even goed door te nemen.

Stap 3 Oefenexamens

Als je het gevoel hebt dat je het wel aardig paraat hebt, kun je een oefenexamen doen. Het open assessment op scrum.org bevat vragen die je echt op het examen kunt krijgen, en geeft je achteraf de juiste antwoorden. Iedere keer dat je dit open assessment maakt krijg je andere vragen (deels). Doe dit dan ook een paar keer! De examens die op internet te vinden zijn, hebben niet per se de juiste antwoorden. Wees hier dus voorzichtig mee.

Stap 4 Inschrijven en echte examen

Als je de oefenexamens haalt, kun je een voucher aanschaffen voor het echte examen. Deze kost dus maximaal een uur, en als je je voorbereidingen goed hebt gedaan dan heb je daarna de certificering Professional Scrum Master. Op dit moment is er geen online in de gaten houd systeem voor als je het examen doet. Je video hoeft niet aan en je microfoon wordt niet afgeluisterd, ook wordt er niet meegekeken op je scherm. Je hebt gewoon nog je privacy terwijl je dit online examen maakt.
