Being Nekoma’s Emo Manager

Also I will not argue this point because I have both age and vintage Emo on my side 😌

Now for a mini history lesson, the Emo I’m going to be referring to today was popular from the late 90s to late 2000s and into the 2010s

This means heavy black eyeliner, hair that defied gravity, neckties being used as anything but neckties

Black with hints of accent colors such as, but not limited too, pinks, orange, white, etc.

The days when TRL and MTV were the way to “stream” new music and hot topic was the source of all band t-shirts

Now that I’ve covered a small history lesson, let’s strap in shall we!

So get your check board belts and fingerless gloves ready kids!

Because it’s time to get EMOtional 😂

N E Ways- let’s just say, you classified yourself as an “Emo kid”

It wasn’t super unheard of to be different fashionably in school but you, well you were definitely a sight

Your hair was teased to the rafters, bows of every color along with skulls littered your hair

Your eye liner was the blackest black, and you skin looked like you hadn’t seen sun in decades 😅

You wore fishnet tights with vans or perhaps another skateboarding shoe

You looked pretty intimidating to most people who didn’t know you

I mean, your style doesn’t exactly scream approachable

However, the people who did know you, knew that your style of “dark and brooding” didn’t measure up AT ALL to your personality

You were a complete sunshine ☀️

A literal sweetheart and absolute Angel!

Unfortunately a lot of kids didn’t get to know you ☹️

But luckily, there was one guy who didn’t care about looks

He really didn’t care about much actually 👀

And that happened to be our favorite setter Kenma!

Because Kenma honestly does not care about looks or superficial things like that

Actually, when you first got teamed up with Kenma to work on a project, a lot of kids thought it was a strange combo

But somehow, you two managed to make it work and in fact, you got the best grade in the class

After that, you and Kenma became partners for every project

There was just something he enjoyed about you

Probably your weird similarity to Hinata honestly 😏

Soon you and Kenma started hanging out after school

You both loved video games as well as had similar styles in music

Look at me and tell me Kenma wouldn’t be into Emo rock 👁️👄👁️

Fall out boy, Paramore, Taking Back Sunday, THE USED!!!!

Anyways, soon Kuroo joins and he’s confused about your friendship with Kenma

Like you and Kenma are complete opposites but you get along super well

Eventually Kuroo starts taking a liking to you as well

Kuroo has natural Emo hair so it’s fate 💅

Kuroo soon figures out why Kenma enjoys your company as you are a literal dark ball of sunshine

Eventually you start accompanying out kitty cats to practice in order to hang out with Kuroo and Kenma

Upon entering the gym, everyone stares at you

You low key kinda scare the first years, Inuoka and Shibayama

Yaku and Kai are super interested as in why you are there

Yamamoto is just dead because there’s a girl in the gym 🙄

And Lev, well Lev can’t keep his mouth shut

“Hey you’re that weird chick that wears black and has crazy hair. I’ve heard a lot about you!” Lev screams

Yaku please 😌

“LEV SHUT UP!” Kuroo yells as Yaku kicks him

You just giggle, a sound nobody was expecting, as you say, “I’m Yn! I guess I kind of do get a little bit of a reputation but I promise, I’m not evil or something!”

“She’s actually kind of cute in a different way,” Kai says as Fukunaga and Yaku nodd in agreement.

Soon, you are coming to every practice and helping where you can

Setting up chairs, filling water balls, handing out towels

The boys quickly adore you and soon you just naturally become apart of the team

Kuroo officially asks you the teams manager which you gladly accept

It’s hard finding a club with your specific tastes and since you could still express your style and personality, volleyball club seemed perfect!

You enjoyed playing music, listening to music and writing which were all supported by Nekoma

Our progressive Kings 👑

Honestly they were so supportive of their Emo scene queen!

They loved when you added little touches of red to your outfits and even made a hair bow that specifically said “Nekoma” on it 🥹

Of course, they were still boys so they all found you super cute and adorable

Yamamoto was your personal body guard for everything

It didn’t matter what, he always walked you to every class and if anyone made any comments about you, he would challenge them to a “rumble”

Language you later learned, was picked up from Karasuno 🙄

You had heard about Karasuno and you were honestly so excited to meet them!

Kenma had told you about Karasuno’s tiny middle blocker

On the way to training camp, our sweet boys let you play the music

Honestly Coach Nekomata was way into it 😂

He was such a hip coach and he knew you kids were into some weird stuff

Please he was too 🤚🏻

Anyways, he’s just happy you bring so much joy to the team

And honestly you match Nekoma’s cat-like mysterious vibes

So when you showed up, the other teams just kind of stared at you

Obviously you kinda stood out like a sore thumb Yn, sorry to say

But don’t worry, Yamamoto is on the case 🫡

“WHAT ARE YOU STARING AT? HAVENT UOU EVEN SEEN A GORGEOUS GIRL BEFORE?!?” He screams

You rn 👉🏻😐

Yaku 👉🏻 YAMAMOTO STOP BEING AN IDIOT

You just roll your eyes and smile, bowing to the teams and greeting them

Almost instantly, they melted 🥰

Because like how are you both adorable and scary???

Literally Emo culture mkay

“Come on Yn, let’s go,” Kenma says as you wave and walk away

Eventually you get introduced to all the teams, including Karasuno

You end up making eye contact with Hinata several times as he observes you

Finally, he makes his move

“Hi there! I really like your style! I see your friends with Kenma and the pretty girl manager for Nekoma! I’m Shoyo Hinata and I’m a middle blocker!” He shouts

You smile back and greet him, “Kenma had told me so much about you! It’s so great time finally meet you!”

Kuroo and Daichi watch you both and shake their heads

“Boy short stuff really can make friends with anyone can’t he?”

“You new manager looks super sweet and outgoing, albeit a little interesting,” Daichi says as Kuroo nods

Soon you and Hinata, and by consequence Bokuto, become besties

Honestly you really enjoy hanging out with Akaashi but we won’t tell Bokuto that 😶

You share your knowledge as well as your unique style of cheering with the boys

You wrote cute little cheers and even inspirational poetry to share with the boys

Bokuto and Hinata loved your fancy words : D

And even when Bokuto went into his own Emo modes, the teams knew exactly who to call!

“YN HALPPPP!” Akaashi would silently communicate to you with his eyes

You 👉🏻 NEVER FEAR OUR SCENE QUEEN IS HERE 🦸🏻‍♀️

“Bokuto would you like to listen to some music or maybe we can talk about your feelings?” You say as you rub his back

“I could use a hug,” Bokuto 🥺

SOMETIMES ATSUMU forgets he’s dating you because he still can’t shake the fact that someone as amazing as you would want to date him.

TENDŌ ALWAYS memorizes the the tune to your favorite song(s) so he can hum them to comfort you and impress you with his natural listening skills.

NISHINOYA HAS A LOCKET with a picture of you two in it. He’s constantly caught admiring it, especially when he’s waiting to be subbed in.

YAMAGUCHI GETS OVERWHELMED very easily, so he loves holding pinkies with you. That alone makes him a blush my mess.

KENMA HATES the feeling of latex gloves/dye on his hands, so he loves when you help dye his hair

BOKUTO HAS A hard time falling asleep at night, so if you can’t sleep, or are just a night owl, you WILL be baking cupcakes while watching crime movies, or random clips of volleyball matches

AKAASHI IS QUITE bashful about this, but he loves when you sit on his lap while he finishes his work/your work if you’re to mentally drained to finish.

FUKUNAGA WRITES little love notes to you, telling you all the things he’s noticed about you (little things) and gives them to you all bashful

SUGAWARA IS A plant parent, meaning he lets you name all of his plants and will remember every single one of them without you having to correct him.

YAMAMOTO LOVES to hug you from behind and rest his chin or cheek on your shoulder/top of your head.

SUNA HAS GROWN A SOFT SPOT for you. Every time you get a small scrape or cut, he’ll patch it up and then lightly kiss your boo-boo…then laugh at your stupidity.

KIYOKO ALWAYS GIVES YOU head-pats as that’s her way of giving affection as she’s not the most…affection person.

KAGEYAMA GRIPS ONTO your sleeve or the bottom of your shirt when he wants attention.

YACHI SUBCONSCIOUSLY doodles you and her initials in a heart on her notes and always gets flustered when someone points it out.

HINATA ADORES your giggles, so he loves to give you butterfly kisses against your cheek, neck, or stomach.

LEV AND YOU have a tradition of baking something new when you visit each other…having Yaku on speed dial if something catches fire.

KUROO COMES UP behind you and covers your eyes, and in a strange voice goes, “guess who?~”

AONE WOULD WRITE POETRY for you. He has a box in his room he puts the papers in, too shy to give them to you quite yet. Although, he’s not the best hider, so you’ve found them, you falling for him all over again with how whipped he is for you.

Fukunaga does stand up comedy, tonight, and he's hella nervous so the team has promised not to show up as audience.

Instead, they are at your place, bullying you into wearing something very flashy - like a neon green hoodie or the giant Pikachu Hat Fukunaga won you at last year's festival - so that Fukunaga won't notice them in the background when they smuggle you into the show.

What better way of curing nerves than to be more embarrassing?

I scowl at Kuroo. I'm kinda peeved that his sad excuse for an idea isn't such a bad one. Most of the old Nekoma volleyball team is crowded into my living room on an unannounced visit. After hearing that I was the only one allowed to go to Shōhei's second ever stand up show, he did a good job of hiding his first one from them, they were upset to say the least. His feelings on the issue didn't seem to matter, they are insistent that they support their friend and ex teammate. I think their curious natures are getting the better of them more than anything though.

As soon as I turn my back Yamamoto pipes up, "Aw come on, you know it would work!"

I heave a sigh, "Yeah yeah, just let me think for a minute."

It could definitely work, with a properly thought out plan. Do I have what I need to pull this off? What about timing? Do I signal them to come in after he's distracted or should they be hiding somewhere inside?

A vague plan starts to form in my head, but there are so many possibilities of failure. I turn back and eye them appraisingly. "Okay, if we're doing this, we do it my way, got it?" The group cheers, minus Kenma, who perks up in interest. "BUT!" They groan at the mention of another condition. "You guys owe us."

Yaku speaks up this time, eyeing me back critically, "What's your price?"

"I want one of those expensive cakes from that bakery down the road."

"That's all?" Lev's surprise is apparent.

"No that's not all, you guys buy our drinks tonight after his gig."

"Obviously," Kuroo leans back into the couch.

I clap my hands, "Alright then, here's how this will go..."

Sitting alone at the closest table to the stage, I feel the hair at the back of my neck stand on end. Ever since we left my apartment I've felt eyes on me. So many eyes. And not just the Nekoma guys' either. I don't love all the attention but at least we know my distraction attempt will work. It's fine, this is totally fine. Just think of how decadent that cake is going to taste. This all will definitely be worth it...I hope.

As the act before Shōhei leaves the stage, I glance back to the bar area, making sure the guys aren't causing mayhem or drawing attention. Nope, all eyes are still on me. Phase One: success. As my man is finally announced, I perk up, preparing for my part in Phase Two.

Shōhei makes his grand entrance. I shoot to my feet hooting and hollering, clapping in overzealous excitement. The man of the hour startles at the commotion, turning my way and stops, mouth hanging open gawking at my attire. He can't seem to believe it's really me in the embarrassing cow onesie, udders in full view, topped with a bright glittery orange cowboy hat.

My wink restarts his brain and with a guffaw at my expense he proceeds... to make me the butt of his jokes for the next several, long minutes. My favorite punchline ending with, "that's not a cow, that's my future wife!"

Long story short, not only did I end up helping Shōhei with his nerves, but he never even realized the group was there until he met us at the bar. After I changed out of that horrendous get up, of course.

I am now allowed to have the only thing in my head be the random character dynamics i haven't been able to draw but use to fill the empty space in my head. So, here are some of those thoughts. Assume timeskip unless otherwise specified.

Kyoutani and Koganegawa get along really well, on and off court. They're buddies! Kyoutani likes to point out when Kogane needs to fix his roots, and Kyoutani will offer to do it for him if he's already planning on redoing his own hair.

Watari, "Hey look at this cool picture of a fish I found", and Yahaba, "Dude, that's terrifying, show me more". Best friends that are constantly sending each other anything they like or think could get a good reaction out of the other. The seijoh second years are a pretty stable friend group after highschool imo

Fukunaga loves cooking for people outside of working, he likes learning what his friends like to eat and figuring out the recipes. He learned to bake so he could make little apple pies for Kenma.

Emergency doctor Shirabu and Nurse Mika, they know everything that's happening in the hospital. All the drama. They are also just good at their jobs.

Someone has to mistake Matsukawa for Sakusa or vice versa, maybe Bokuto? Oikawa? They're about the same height, same haircut, both have "i wear all black" energy. I just think it'd be funny. Sakusa would absolutely refuse to stand within like 6 feet of Matsukawa after learning he works in a funeral home though, dead bodies? Disgusting.

Yaku actively keeps up with all of Shibayama's games, and will text him afterwards to essentially say good job.

Akane likes to send Yamamoto snapchats of her doing an annoucer voice over clips of him playing, half of it's just playing around. Yamamoto's favorite person is his sister.
