#Shadow Characterization

Sonic and Shadow are truly perfect juxtapositions of each other. Thinking about them in the game verse specifically:

Sonic is casual; Shadow is formal.

Sonic is simple; Shadow is complicated.

Sonic reacts; Shadow plans.

Sonic acts on instinct; Shadow thinks through his every move.

Sonic has always known who he is; Shadow has had to fight to know who he is

Sonic trusts himself; Shadow doesn’t.

Sonic doesn’t care about his past; Shadow is constantly fighting to not be consumed by his past.

Sonic doesn’t worry about whether or not he’s ‘good’; Shadow constantly doubts his own motivations and is very concerned about if he is good.

But Sonic and Shadow are also extremely similar in specific key ways:

They’re both introverts.

They both hate injustice.

They’re both compassionate.

They both have good intentions.

They’re both competitive

They’re both incredibly loyal to people they care about.

It’s through these similarities that they can bond and have a healthy respect for each other, and even be friends. And even with their differences, I think they admire each other. Shadow admires Sonic’s unwavering confidence and certainty, and Sonic admires Shadow’s strength in the face of everything he’s gone through.

Their dynamic just fascinates me.

I like sonadow because it’s not actually sunshine/grumpy, they’re both pretty mysterious and weird loners who are very powerful and completely distracted by each other. They just have very different ways of handling things which makes them fun to watch bounce off each other. They’re two sides of the same coin!

SPOILERS AHEAD.

adding onto my previous post, another thing I noticed is that when Shadow is telling Eggman to buy him time to push the Eclipse Cannon away, he says (verryyyy paraphrased) "this is our last chance to do good."

Shadow was prepared to die while moving the cannon. He accepted it.

This is very dark on its own, and it's even darker when you remember that, again, this Shadow is a child.

This movie was amazing at conveying dark themes while also being lighthearted enough that kids could watch it.

I am positive I am not the first person to think about this, but it’s actually super weird that Shadow the Hedgehog became so associated with guns. It was such an odd story choice. His sister was literally killed with one; you’d think that would make him completely opposed to the things. You have the complications of him losing his memory more than once that can arguably justify him using them, suggesting he got into the habit before remembering what he had experienced. BUT EVEN SO. It’s such a weird idea. I personally never really associated Shadow with traditional guns anyway—I like to see him fight hand-to-hand combat while using his chaos powers much more. It’s so much more interesting in my opinion!

Thinking about Harvey's little

So, to overanalize it: I don't think text can convey how big of a confession that is? I don't mean romantic. I mean like, this is Harvey's most personal, hardcoded language. This is the stuff he tells himself all the time. Survive. Be a good person. It's him showing his inner machinations, his innermost thoughts and fears, and maybe, just maybe he regrets saying it halfway through bc of it and he trails off.

Bruce says "I love you," pretty nonchalantly and tries to play it off as casual ("knock it off") and it's clear he's more used to treating ppl this way. But of course, Bruce knows Harvey and how he is, he understands. Of course he does. He'll do anything for Harvey.
