#Shiny quest

Cosmodeus realized, quickly after catching his new friend, that ah.... Plasma sorta just does what he wants. Including in battle. Especially in battle. In fact, every time Cosmodeus accidentally stumbled upon a wild Pokémon, Plasma would outright refuse to listen to them, even when they called for a retreat...

So by the time they'd reached Cortondo, they hadn't been able to get any training done together. Cosmodeus was honestly pretty worried for the gym battle. Would they actually win? Would Plasma just refuse to listen the whole time?

Cosmodeus got themself through the (rather easy!) Gym Trial and faced off against Katy.

Yeah, this was going about as well as he'd feared.

Plasma was loafing around!

Plasma pretended not to notice!

Plasma refused to obey!

At least the few times Plasma did listen, he wiped out the opposing Pokémon in one shot. ...Well, except for the Teddiursa at the end. But still. Eventually, Cosmodeus and Plasma won their first ever badge!

I got the shiny Odd Egg Pichu! It took 81 eggs. Each egg took around 13-15 minutes to hatch.

I had to reset over 8 other shinies. Mostly Cleffa and Magby, a couple of Elekid, and one Igglybuff. Never saw a shiny Smoochum or Tyrogue, (Tyrogue would have been painful to reset over).

But I have finally completed a quest that I started and abandoned in 2002. It helped that I wasn't burning through double A batteries this time.

Bill's Eevee is next. But first I gotta whoop Whitney with my sparkly owl, weasel, and baby mouse somehow.

thing about deltora quest that only occurred to me in hindsight is not only just how much jasmine carries the entire party on this quest but also how genre-defyingly brutal she is lol. like, this is a kid's series that hinges on riddles and puzzles far more heavily than combat - even when deaths occur, they're often the result of cleverness in some way rather than straight up combat ability. that said, let's look at the villain kill count at the end of book five of eight of the first series:

- lief: 1 - even there it's with a well-thrown bottle of cursed water rather than his sword.

- barda: 0 - i'm not counting that one unnamed sand beast, that's an animal not a villain.

- filli: 0 - he is a squirrel, this is unsurprising.

- kree: 1 - killed an invincible sorceress all by himself, good bird best friend.

- jasmine: 5 - dropped a tree branch on a mf, drowned two cannibals in quicksand, cut a giant snake's throat, shoved a dude down a pipe full of toxic mold (after having to be told not to cut his throat while he slept jfc).

idk it just suddenly struck me as really funny how this one character who isn't the protagonist is almost from a different, far more brutal story, and uses that fact to consistently be the mvp and save everyone else's asses. i need to read this series again it's been too long.

Inspired by Shiny Catherine's Shiny Quest series, I've decided to start my own Shiny Quest!! Featuring....

Cosmodeus, and their starter Pokémon Plasma!!

What's a Shiny Quest? I'm glad you asked! Basically, Cosmodeus here has to catch a shiny Pokémon before each and every badge. In a normal game, this would mean eight total shinies... But this is Pokémon Scarlet, so that means he's gotta get eighteen! This is gonna be a long journey. But I believe in them.

Also! I'm gonna be using the tag #IF's Shiny Quest for this one, so stay tuned!

[stepping further back into the cave, shirazaki narrows his eyes, and the fireballs floating around him start to burn brighter.]

don't lie. everyone else is dead already. or were their spirits not enough to satisfy you? i won't go down that easily--

[the sound of wings flapping from outside seems to get shirazaki's attention then, and they hiss under their breath as the sound gets louder and louder by the second.]

i tried to resist this shiny hunt... but the very moment that i got the pokeflute, i knew i would need to take it on. there's only two snorlaxes in leafgreen, blocking off routes like the icons they are. i always feel bad about waking them up so i figured they deserved the time commitment of a shiny hunt! (and lbr, the snorlax encounter is SUCH a classic... ough.)

snorlax has a pretty subtle shiny design, but it grew on me sooo much with time... the shade of blue is a super pretty one! i was actually a bit worried that i wouldn't notice the shiny whenever it showed up, but i noticed her RIGHT away when she did. the encounter was a pretty terrifying one - she has the rest + chesto berry combo, smdh, not to mention snorlax's catch rate - but i managed to catch her in a pokeball, which is pretty cool.

ANYWAY!!!! sleepytime was my 8726th snorlax seen! my first overodds hunt on this badge quest AND my first overodds hunt in a 1/8192 game... glad it wasn't too far overodds! and i hope that she'll forgive me for disturbing her cozy slumber!
