Charles Beck - East Sierras
This painting was started years ago after a trip along the east side of the Sierras in October. The aspen had turned color along a trail that led to granite peaks in the distance. It reminded me much of my youthful excursions in Colorado.
The mostly finished painting sat, face to the wall, in the studio for a dozen years till one day I looked again and decided to repaint most of it.

College wine parties with tea lights
Up the mountain road, living on top in some sierra campground, crowded, is this the sequel to another mountain dream. I give up, uninterpreted. I have cash in bag, produce, narrow to walk on a happy path with you. It's soft, rocks in a terrarium don't got an edge. I go up the gravel road with a car, up the five lane highway, an impossibly steep climb. Is it you in the backseat. I have some breakfast. I turn to look in the shower, not so much around as in. My face looks inside me, where the brain physically hurts. Touch it. Time on a loop that makes us fall back, we need some valley in which to centrifuge. Cool and gray in the churchyard, but it's where the parties are. Sex and cleaving. Someone showed me not too long ago. Think it might've been you. I know it was you.
I've been thinking of a chairlift, of a path up that weeping place in the side. It has a waterfall. I dream of a mist, it's a paradox to dream of, a pinion. It's aspirating. I fall out of the dream wet and cold. Blue as a child.
