Today we have computers that can simulate air bubbles rising in water. But 500 years ago, Leonardo da Vinci studied motion of air bubbles in water and found that: “The air that submerged itself with the water… returns to the air, penetrating the water in sinuous movement, changing its substance into a great number of forms… it never spreads itself out from its path except to the extent to which it avoids the water which covers it”

A solid object that floats on a fluid or moves through it without deforming it is called a rigid body. Its motion is controlled by the fluid forces plus external forces (such as gravity) and torques including external torques acting upon it. Rigid Body Solver uses equations of motion to compute the position and orientation of a rigid body. These equations provide six degrees of freedom (“6 DOF”) i.e. up to three rotational and up to three translational DOF.
