Semi-niche fiber craft discourse take here but I had to get it out of my brain because it was driving me insane.
“Machines can knit but it’s impossible for a machine to crochet” is NOT TRUE. OBVIOUSLY.
The sentiment behind it is “we don’t have mass production crochet machines like we have mass production knitting machines.” This is the true part.
However, people (mostly crocheters searching for some level of oneupsmanship over knitters for some reason) take that as “crochet has some magical property that makes it impossible for machines to do” when that is just obviously on the face of it blatantly not fucking true because literally why and how would it possibly be true.
If a machine can do the precise six axis movements required to assemble a car, why would that machine be incapable of the comparatively simple movements required to crochet? There’s no magical property that makes crochet anathema to automation. The only reason we don’t have mass production crochet machines isn’t because machines CAN’T crochet, but because they don’t crochet EFFICIENTLY at an industrial scale at the moment because of the difference between the construction of knit stitches vs crochet stitches.
There’s no superiority there. People who uncritically repeat “machines can’t crochet” despite having every tool available to investigate that claim, including their own eyes on their craft and knowledge of the capabilities of robots, and the ability to literally GOOGLE “ROBOT CROCHETING” and see videos of it right in front of their eyes, frustrate me to no end.
If you see a claim that is really absolutist, but upon some level of thought seems odd, please fact check it before you thoughtlessly repeat it for the sake of winning internet clout in niche rivalries that no one cares about except me.
And for the record, as someone who does both, knitting and crochet are equivalent. They have different strong suits, and if you can learn one you can learn the other. Neither of them is that difficult, neither of them is particularly special, neither of them should be a point of putting down people who prefer the other. If you’re a knitter who wants to make plushies consider picking up some crochet. If you’re a crocheter who wants to make smooth fabrics that drape well, consider picking up some knitting.
You don’t get to flex about your fiber craft unless you’re doing bobbin lacemaking, in which case god bless, that is witchcraft, and you are beyond all of us mere mortals.

Grace Dahlia: The Dancer, The Integrity SOUL, The Fifth Sacrifice, The World's Most Tired and Pissed-Off Ballerina Mom.
She/Her (Trans)
Age at Death: 16
Stats: LV 4 (ExP to LV 6)
● Human: ATK 7 (+10) DEF 10 (+1) HP 40
● Monster: ATK 63 DEF 61 HP 2600
● Determined: [...]
Motivation: Protect the other reborn children and find a place where they can live peacefully far away from monsters.
Reasons for Falling: Needed to get away from it all.
Cause of Death: Axis
Personality: Bitter, cynical and defiant; Grace will stand her ground against the whole world if she needs too, and while she can be abrasive and standoffish to anyone she doesn't know, she is also very protective of the people she cares for. She is honest with her opinions and intentions (sometimes bluntly so) and highly values her promises while expecting the same from others. She also has a tendency towards perfectionism and holds herself and others to a higher standard, and can become ashamed/frustrated when those standards aren't met.
Relationships: The Reborn (Leader, guardian and parent figure), Clover (Naive and hurting, I can't let them be taken advantage of again), Nadia (Stronger than she thinks she is), Olive (Co-parent and platonic partner), Felix (Please settle down), Alice (Gental and protective), Frisk (Detached Concern)Toriel (Disappointment), Alphys (Pity and disdain), Asgore and monsters in general (Anger and Resentment), Humans (Disappointment and Distrust), Robots (Fear), Kanako (I hope you're happy and thriving), Chujin (...).
Magic:
● Bullets: Stars and her tails. Manifests ballet themed bullets during blue soul mode.
○ Green Bullets: Music Notes.
● Gravikinesis/ Blue Soul Mode: Can push, pull, lift or ground objects and people. Can use this to restrain others or allow herself or others to float. Incapable of fine control.
● Shadow body: She Can control the size, shape and number of her tails (max nine) and often makes use of them as additional limbs and weapons (teeth, claws, spears, ect). They are treated like bullets in combat. Additionally her shadow acts as a dimensional pocket where she can store objects and even people , including herself. When she does so her shadow can travel along any surface at a fairly fast speed.

Other Notes:
● The mask is her face; she can see, hear and talk through it only, even when it's removed, an eternal reminder of how she died.
● Has complicated feelings over her new body, understands she is no longer human but refuses to consider herself a monster.
● Has very complicated feelings over her killing spree.
● She has a passive awareness of what her tails sense and can see and speak through them if she concentrates, though she sees little reason to do so. They can sometimes act subconsciously on their own, and reflect/betray her current feelings or mood. The more tails she manifests the more effort she has to put in to maintain them, can only manage up to six without entering DT form.
● Among other things, she knows sign language, and taught it to Alice and Kanako. She also knows how to sew and , would use it to repair clothes and create her uniform.
● Has a goddam crowbar.
● Enjoys music she can dance and would love to start collecting vinyl records.
● Likes to think of herself as more mature than her age would suggest and hates it when others point out she is still technically a child herself.
● Willing to kill again if needed.
● Chose her name as a promise and reminder to herself, that no matter the hardships she faced she would rise above them, that she would not let life twist her into something cruel and hateful, that despite everything she could still be graceful, and then she went to the mountain.
● Doesn't forgive or forget easily.
● Fears she may be leading the other children on a path to ruin.
● Closet astronomy nerd.

The Grivet Arm (1978) by Gallaher Research Inc., Western-Salem, North Carolina.
"Purchasing some form of "experimenter's arm" kit? There has been one attempt at a commercial kit product for the robot arm experimenter, a product which was advertised in this magazine starting last spring. I refer to the Gallaher Research "Grivet" arm, which is shown in photo 1. The photograph was taken using the kit I bought for $400 and put together one Sunday morning in September. … Mr Gallaher's robot arm was a crude start at best, for all we got is a rather shaky mechanism with six DC motors. The purchaser's inventiveness must supply the details of electronic interface and control. A suggestion, in the marketing literature supplied with the kit, is that relays be used to provide control of the 6V DC which will run the motors. This kit provided what you see in the photograph: a limited mechanical start on a complete arm which must include a mounting of some sort, power supplies, bidirectional motor drive electronics, and sensory feedback. There is not even a suggestion of how to mount and use sensors to provide feedback control of the arm in a practical object manipulation environment such as a chessboard with chess pieces as the objects.
The designer of this arm did his homework with respect to balance, for it will sit upright on its counterweight with no particular urge to topple over. The photograph was taken with the arm in this position. But if mounted in a horizontal position as suggested by the sales literature (assembly drawings, but no instruction manual, come with this device) several of the parts are under enough stress to be visibly bent. The only way I can see to practically mount this arm is by having it hang down from the shaft furthest from the hand mechanism (flipping it 180 degrees around the vertical axis of photo 1).
The Gallaher arm kit's parts are apparently handcrafted. When you think of the time and energy that went into its creation, it is obviously a bargain at $400, even if incomplete. Some of the first microcomputer kits such as the Mark-8, Altair and Sphere were similarly incomplete, and a whole industry was formed filling in the gaps to provide a complete computer system in assembled form. Therefore, we can expect more complete robotic systems as further products are offered to the experimenter. Just as "hardheaded realists" (ie: unimaginative people) scoffed only four years ago at the idea of a personal computer, I can almost hear the equivalent comments about domestic robots being uttered as I pen these words at the keyboard of my personal computer." – Byte Magazine February 1979, Volume 04 Number 02 (p6).

Floating Cube in the People of Men
Saw this post on my dash, and it reminded me of this quirk in Dragon Quest and DQ-inspired works where 'monsters' seems to be an innate category. Like in some versions of DQ1, the bad guy has control over all monsterkind. At the same time, monsters include everything from slimes, plants, and animals, to zombies, ghosts, demons, constructs, and straight-up robots, while all non-monster peoples tend to be like humans and elves and mostly human-shaped things. The most out there non-monster is probably an angel, which may not count as a human or mortal, but isn't lumped in with the monsters on a metaphysical axis.
If we're not going to do away with that, we should at least have some out there members of the non-monster axis. A sentient floating cube or some kind of six-armed person at least.

robotic arm cuts rock with surgical precision
Imagine a 2.4-ton robotic arm wielding a six-foot-seven (2-m) circular sawblade with a 12-foot (3.7-m) reach, slung onto a truck-mounted hooklift system for easy transport. It’s as terrifying as it is awe-inspiring. That’s Smart Production’s latest creation, built on the back of Kuka’s KR Fortec 480 Ultra and called the Catonator. It’s a 6-axis, 4,850-lb (2,200-kg) fully electric, battery-powered…

Chinese Office Furniture Suppliers: The Pillar of the Global Supply Chain
At the China Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, a smart workstation system featuring brainwave sensing technology caused a stir—when the user’s attention wavered, the desk automatically raised to standing mode, and the lighting shifted to 6000K cool white to refocus cognitive energy. This system reflects the transformation of Chinese office furniture suppliers from "manufacturing OEM" to "technology output." In 2023, China’s office furniture exports exceeded $22.8 billion, accounting for 39% of the global market share. Its core competitiveness has shifted from cost advantages to technological innovation and full-chain service capabilities.
1. Smart Manufacturing: Redefining Production Efficiency
Breakthrough in Flexible Production Systems A leading factory in Guangdong has implemented an intelligent workshop, breaking down orders into 158 standard modules via an MES system, supporting 150,000 custom combinations. Laser cutting machines have positioning accuracy of ±0.03mm, and six-axis robotic arms assemble 12 hardware parts per minute with precision. The modular production line’s switch time has been reduced from the traditional 72 hours to just 23 minutes, while the cost of single items has dropped by 18%.
Green Manufacturing Innovations Zhejiang Yongyi has introduced a plasma coating line that reduces the curing time of water-based paint from 8 hours to 9 minutes, while VOC emissions are reduced to 0.5g/m³ (EU standard is 30g/m³). Combined with a rooftop photovoltaic system, the energy consumption for producing a single office chair is only 37% of the industry average, and its carbon footprint is reduced by 62%.
Digital Twin Quality Control Shenzhen’s Haofang Technology has built a virtual simulation platform for end-to-end process control, conducting 2,000 collision tests before production. An AI visual inspection system scans product surfaces with 0.005mm precision, reducing defect rates from the industry average of 2.3% to 0.18%. Its self-developed stress cloud map analysis algorithm limits product lifespan prediction errors to within ±3%.

2. Technology R&D: From Follower to Leader
Breakthrough in Smart Interaction Systems A company in Hangzhou, in collaboration with MIT, developed the HoloDesk system, which projects a 120° visible hologram on the desk using a nano-grating array. Gesture operation delay is only 8ms, and it supports multi-user collaborative editing of 3D models. After implementing it in BMW's design center, the new car development cycle was reduced by 41%.
Original Achievements in Material Science The Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, developed a graphene-reinforced composite board with a bending strength of 580MPa, 63% lighter than traditional MDF. The surface is coated with a lotus-leaf-like hydrophobic layer, achieving a liquid contact angle of 168° and reducing cleaning energy consumption by 82%. This technology has been patented in 32 countries, with a price 55% lower than similar European products.
Innovations in Ergonomics for Health Guangdong Jiechang’s intelligent height-adjustable system uses 16 pressure sensors to monitor posture in real-time, adjusting the desk height by ±3mm every 15 minutes. Clinical data shows that this technology reduces the peak pressure on the lumbar disc by 37%, and employees' tolerance for prolonged sitting is extended by 2.1 times.

3. Global Services: Full-Chain Solutions
48-Hour Fast Delivery Network A supplier in Suzhou has established a global distributed warehouse system, setting up smart hub warehouses in Hamburg, Los Angeles, and Singapore. With a blockchain-based clearance system, customs clearance time is reduced to 28 minutes. Combined with the China-Europe freight train + drone shuttle system, European customers can receive their orders within 51 hours.
Modular Installation System A company in Dongguan has developed a magnetic quick-assembly structure that reduces the standard workstation installation time from 4 hours to 18 minutes. All components support tool-free disassembly and reassembly, reducing maintenance and replacement costs by 73%. Its patented connectors have a tensile strength of up to 2.3 tons and pass 8.0-level earthquake simulation tests.
Full Lifecycle Management Shanghai ZhenDan has introduced a "Product-as-a-Service" model: customers pay based on usage time, and old furniture is recycled using nano-level surface regeneration technology, restoring 98% of its original performance. This model reduces initial investment by 65%, and the material recycling rate reaches 91%.

4. Certification Systems: The Key to Opening Global Markets
Comprehensive International Standards Leading enterprises typically hold 12 international certifications, including BIFMA, GREENGUARD, and FSC. One company's flame-retardant boards passed the UK BS5852 standard test, enduring 43 minutes at 950°C without deformation, far exceeding the EU EN1021-1 requirement of 30 minutes.
Customized Certification Services For the Middle East market, a company developed a dust-proof structure that meets GSO standards, and desert environment tests showed that internal components ran for 2,000 hours without failure during sandstorms. The earthquake-resistant design for North American customers passed the ICC-ES AC156 certification, withstanding 0.6g seismic acceleration.
Digital Trust System Using industrial blockchain technology, all processes from timber traceability to production energy consumption are recorded on the blockchain. TÜV certification from Germany confirms that a company’s product carbon footprint data has 99.97% credibility, allowing the company to enter the EU’s green procurement list.
In the showroom of a hidden champion enterprise in Shenzhen, a quantum-sensing office system is optimizing the global supply chain in real-time: it adjusts inventory at the Hamburg warehouse based on a snowstorm warning in New York, and activates emergency production at a Vietnamese factory after monitoring the shipping schedule in the Strait of Malacca. This signals that Chinese suppliers have transitioned from passively receiving orders to proactively providing services, becoming the intelligent hub of the global office ecosystem. When "Made in China" evolves into "Intelligent Manufacturing from China," choosing a Chinese office furniture supplier means selecting a productivity solution for the next decade. Choose Ekintop office furniture, and we will provide you with the best solution.
