Way back when I first showed my wife Sly 2 - my favourite ever game - I, in the course of rambling at her, mentioned my childhood headcanon about what the red health pickups actually were. Unlike Jak and Daxter's Green Eco, or the first aid kits ubiquitous to shooters - hell, unlike the horseshoes of Sly 1, which went largely unexplained but were at least acknowledged - there really is no in-game information on them.

I always pictured that they were biscuits.

Hard, crunchy biscuits, like you'd find in an emergency health kit, kinda along the lines of hot chocolate from an ambulance or alcohol from a St Bernard rescue dog. Not intended to be eaten for pleasure, but a quick way to recover energy after bruising and blood loss.

Today

my wife made some!

It was a first attempt at making digestive biscuits at all (we're only showing the most photogenic three, and even then...) They didn't come out particularly sweet either, which frankly fits.

But mostly I'm touched that she remembered this dumb thing I told her several years ago about a Playstation 2 game, and more than that, she worked to make my idle thought a reality. I don't care how the biscuits taste compared to the sheer sweetness of the gesture.

...but I will be eating them all anyway.

I'm streaming the Sly Cooper games for a friend, and the brainrot is really hitting me. We're at the end of Sly 2 now, and I think Sly 2 might be reclaiming its place as my #1 favorite game ever, it's just so fun, clever, and well put together, and I'm shocked that 20 years later I'm still finding stuff I never noticed while playing. For instance, I did not know you could get spotted by Clock-La who actually attacks you via bombing robo egg helicopters at you (I maybe knew this and forgot but I feel like I just never caught this one).

With the 20th anniversary just under a month away, I wonder if I should do something fun for it or like a big retrospective or something. I still have my original copy, and I still remember the day I got it (actually a day after the release date because they didn't have copies in my town for some reason...)
