i know every time a girl idw sonic character does anything cool or is in a leadership position of any kind people call her a sally ripoff but do you think people did this while archie sonic was still running too. do you think people called amy a sally ripoff when she was first introduced in the games and comics because shes a girl. do you think people called blaze a sally ripoff just because shes a princess who is friends with sonic. im not old enough to have been there for any of this so i wouldnt know but i have to wonder

(Art Post) Tania the hedgehog "Redesign"

Want to draw something Sonic related and try redesigning characters' designs. Decide on drawing an obscure Sonic character from the 1992 Sonic Manga published only in Japan.It's inspired by Sonic Out of the Blue Tania design, and I ended up with a different pose for her instead of being one to one pose of the reference image. Tania, or her other name, Anita, which depends on who's working on the comics, is one of the supporting characters in the manga serving as the little sister of Nikki/Nicky and his alter ego Sonic the Hedgehog (Yes Sonic in the manga is more of a superhero and he doesn't know that Nikki and him are the same person). She's portrayed as the opposite of her brother Nikki being more braver and is willing to take action. If you haven't heard of her, it's likely that you might know Sonia from Sonic Underground as Sonic sister than Tania. It's unknown if she ever appears in the Sonic games, considering Sega mandates and finding a good story and game that will fit her in, but considering how Amy Rose and Charmy Bee did come from the manga and become part of Sonic cast who's to say that Tania can join in as well.

SatAM is one of the most talked about Sonic Spinoffs of any Non-Canon Sonic product. Like, seriously, guys. You can't walk into a Sonic discussion without someone asking about Sally Acorn or Archie Sonic because they heard that was 'canon' from one of the SatAM fanatics out there.
Meanwhile, the truely 'least recognized' Sonic Spinoff - the Sonic 1992 manga, aka the one where Sonic is the alter ego of a normal hedgehog boy - is giving this whole thread the middle finger and wishing it was more talked about since it was where characters like Amy and Charmy got their starts.

It always annoys me how often people think the transition from the spinoff media to the games is always going to be a 1 to 1 transition, when it isn't and would never be. IIRC, the creator of Amy Rose, sat down with Ohshima while he was working on Sonic CD in order to incorporate her properly into the games, which changed her from a out and out girlfriend to Sonic's alt in the 1992 Manga to what she is as a character today. Team Chaotix, being made by people who weren't fully Sonic Team, had been redesigned and changed into the versions we know and love. Ariem and Trip are based more off of Lumina and Dulcy respectfully, ruling out the chances of SatAM and Sonic Shuffle being fully considered part of the games.
There's no way for SEGA to consider that they couldn't remake characters that they would want, making them fit into the world they have set up.
Yeah all evidence would show that even if Sonic Team were to incorporate characters from the comics, all they would do is take inspiration from them and run with it to produce their own original characters. They aren't going to limit their creativity to what the comic has produced and depicted. And that's not even considering the legalities and copyright foibles that would be at play.
They might as well demand that their deviant art OC be included in the games for all the difference it makes. Hell Forces shows that even when the option for creating your own OC is implemented, it is still only done in the form of a carefully curated selection of options! So we even literally have an example of how THAT would turn out too x3

Apparently there might be a new Sonic manga printed in CoroCoro Comic?! There was a oneshot in the January 2024 issue and there's a chance that it could become a serialized manga if there's demand for it.

That's indeed what makes me so annoyed by the whole 'Sonic's embarrassing first name' debate... The only way I can envision people liking it is indeed because they want to tear Sonic down, for whatever reason. But it's just so annoying when fans try to claim this factoid as canon for Sonic from the games, and I don't think they'll change their mind if you point out that in the games this has never been mentioned in any way, because """""everything is canon"""""...
Oh and my autocorrect says that Olgilvie is actually spelled Ogilvie, so I guess Ken Penders couldn't even spell it correctly, or he tried to make it even worse for Sonic? Anyway, ugh.
I'm glad I'm not in the circle you are in because I haven't seen the Olglive factoid being mentioned as if canon in decades :'D it's so stupid lmao
But goddamnit sometimes I do feel that a minimum of gatekeeping is necessary. No, not everything is canon, the bullshit spewed by Penders sure isn't. What's the logic in everyone having names like Miles Prower, Knuckles, Shadow, Cream, and then the actual protagonist's name is Olgilvie Maurice. Or even just Maurice. Why. Why does Sonic have to have a "real", embarrassing name that he covers up with a "cool" nickname. Why can't Western writers accept that Sonic is effortlessly cool.
(yeah I had to check the correct spelling too. When I google Ogilvie I don't get a name, though. I get this. Okay.)
(and besides, when it comes to alternative names for Sonic, Nikki from the 1992 manga at least makes more sense. Sonikku -> Nikki.)

Sonic OVA thoughts (Part 1)
OVA is generally beloved by the fandom as a cool piece of Sonic media in the mid 90s. What gets me is how different it was compared to typical none canon Japan Sonic media at the time
For the follow up we have; -The 1992-94 Shogakukan Nicky manga of a timid kid
-The 1992 Sonic 2 promo manga, done by some of the artists in the previous Shogakukan Manga
-199?-1995 Harmony magazine exclusive art
-The 1994 TMS animated short featuring Eggman impersonating as Sonic out of jealousy
All of these typically depict Sonic (unless drawn by Oshima) as kiddier or cutesy, typically missing his attitude, or in the case of Nicky, is completely off base. This was even noted by Naka in development of Sonic Adventure, hence the need for the 1997 Project Sonic competition to reinvigorate edge and attitude
So OVA NOT being cutsey weirdly stands out for the period*
*While Junio/Toei's work for CD also isn't cutesy, that's core from games, not alt media, despite design difference
How does OVA stand out? Well...the prior context might've been why it didn't get to accomplish its goals
The OVA was initially rental tape only available between Jan 1996-March 1996, not getting a formal home release until May 1996. This is already odd, given rumors of it being intended to be a TV series but scrapped. The OVA was split into 2 parts originally, the first half focusing on going to the Land of the Darkness and fighting Mecha Robotnik, the latter focusing on Metal Sonic and the polar ice caps. The base story is concieved by Mayori Sekijima then scripted by Masashi Kubota, both having done full series by that point. Given 1997 Naka admitted that people in Japan didn't really know Sonic by that point (which was why Jam was made alongside lack of Sonic Saturn rep)...I have a feeling this wasn't that popular, despite ads
Anyway, the movie itself

We start with a dark room with monitors and a motionless floating mech of Metal Sonic. Eggman proclaims that he needs Sonic's DNA (more loosely called lifeforce essence here) to complete Hyper Metal Sonic. Note: Hyper Metal Sonic references the new mold he had for Chaotix in games!
We then cut to aesthetic landscape expanses of the Land of the Sky. It helps give us a picture of their world. Refreshingly, not just checker spam that 2nd game devs randomly did a lot despite Sonic Team doing other types of locales. We also see the Old Man Owl flying a spluttering ship, more on that later...

We end up at Sonic's island, composing of wrecked airplanes, buses-i-is that a Star Wars ship!? Pretty interesting, I wonder if they'll tell us where it came from-

But we get interrupted with Tails showing Sonic his newest invention to try out. Sonic isn't interested, so Tails goes out to try it for himself, splashing Sonic accidentally

We hear Tails calling for help soon after, which Sonic coldly ignores. This is something that gets me for this feature, Sonic has attitude, but is weirdly also dismissive of his friends that already run contradictory to games at the time. Even Tails screaming bloody murder doesn't do much as Sonic loudly tells him to shut up (Eng memes aside), only changing his mind when he see the old Owl Man crash through where Sonic was

Tails checks on the blue blur to see if he's ok, which Sonic is. He notes that they should help the Old Man, but Sonic again tells him he's not interested, flat out out saying "hey, you can fly bitch, you do it!", to which Tails calls him out, then takes it upon himself to save the old man. While at first it goes well thanks to surfing, both soon realize they'll crash into the cliffside, to which he screams. At that point Sonic realizes "oh, they might die", then saves them
Speaking of, they seemingly know of this guy before this event. Who is he? How'd they meet? We'll never know!
Afterwards, Owl Man is in shock, which Sonic gets a Crabmeat (wouldn't that still have a Flicky given this period?) to pinch him, bringing him back to his senses, then rambling about how he was an expert racer in his day that got chicks. Tails reminds him that he had something important to say, and we learn that the President wants Sonic due to an emergency. Sonic and Tails then have the aesthetic plane sequence and head out, leaving the old man to watch over Sonic's...well, wreckage is more apt
We have more aesthetic shots showing the capital city of the Land of the Sky, though there's a weird lack of people here... Inside it's revealed Eggman has taken over, shooting Sonic/Tails, and having the President and his daughter held as hostage. We-

Wait, this landmass is South Island!? What's with none canon Sonic media spamming South Island, when mainline games went to different areas
Seriously, most of the STI and Aspect Ltd 8 bit games do this unlike Sonic Team. Even Fighters by Sega AM2 did. Why? Sonic is noted to exploring other locales, likewise Eggman isn't too stationary if a plan fails one spot. It's just...why?
Also epic sub typo
Anyway, Eggman explains the history of the Land of the Sky and Darkness, and how they are 2 split halves. This bores everyone, so he demands Sonic to help him stop a generator in Eggmanland that's out of control, thanks to an upsurper called Mecha Robotnik (Black Robotnik in Japan). If it isn't stopped, the generator would destroy the Land of the Darkness, which would in turn destroy the Land of the Sky. Everyone again is bored, flat out sleeping, so he stresses that someone needs to bypass his taken traps and stop the generator. Sonic dismisses it, despite Sarah and the President begging, as he believes Eggman to be lying, which takes Tails to convince him to just do it. Sonic overall is pretty unhelpful here honestly. Eggman gives Tails a navigator (which Sonic questions way too late if it's rigged AFTER they fly out), and the plot's moving...
Oh nah, we just have Eggman and Sarah playing fighting games

Contrary to popular belief, this is not a Sonic the Fighters ref. This OVA came out well before that arcade game was out
Ignoring filler, everyone's pretty lax about the kidnapping here. Sarah even threatens to stop being hostage, which...doesn't make sense. She's surrounded by a bunch of robots. We then have a mecha crash in and open its hatch, so we now know Eggman's up to something (which was obvious)
Back to Sonic/Tails

Come to think of it, this all implies Sonic never fought Eggman there before. Which gives interesting implications of Eggman only causing trouble in the Land of the Sky, then retreating after failure to Sonic
Anyway, they crash land due to turbulence, and set out on a path straight to Eggmanland

We have a montage of Sonic going through the various landscapes, with him noting how many robots (no Flickies, huh) and traps there are. Tails assures that it is the quickest path, leading directly to a warp zone (?), and the two wound up in E 44th St. in an ancient city

We don't have much explanation for this area, and Tails confirms this isn't Eggmanland yet. Sonic scours the skyscraper to get a better view on their location, and the two head towards Eggmanland, only to be stopped by...

The two dodge its attacks, hiding behind a bus to figure what to do. Sonic notes that they can't waste time fighting it, and Tails notes the direction they should go....
Only for Sonic to moronically alert Mecha where they are by taunting it. Side note: contrary to rumors, this was never censored in English

This Sonic is stupid, I'm sorry. He lacks tact Game Sonic would have
So anyway, the two are chased through the highway, reaching by a broken edge near the water. Mecha shoots by their feet, causing them to fall, and the two take advantage of the obscurity to try to trick Mecha Robotnik him into thinking they fell fully and drowned. But Mecha isn't stupid, so they get further chased. Mecha Robotnik soon shifts to shooting glue from its ass

Due to a lightning shock, Tails gets scared and freezes, which gets him trapped. Before Sonic can save him, Mecha Robotnik shoots several missiles that home in on the hedgehog, with several causing explosions throughout the city as Sonic runs away. This alerts...

While it seems hopeless for Tails, it turns out that Sonic hitched a ride on one of the missiles, redirecting it to hit Mecha Robotnik

It's a clean shot, but the blast weakens the structural integrity of the area. Worse, Sonic lands on the sticky glue from earlier, and the collapsing ground floods from the lake nearby. Mecha Robotnik wobbles back, about to shoot him, but right at the last second, Knuckles flies in to stop it, then frees Tails

Tails unfortunately can't fly to Sonic as his tails are stuck and unable to spin for approximately 10 seconds before it becomes a literal none issue

While Tails reaches the drowning hedgehog and tries to pull him out, Knux is distracting Mecha Eggman. Unfortunately he gets stuck in glue as well

Mecha, running out of bullets, decides to crush the echidna. Tails finally manages to free Sonic

Hey, his right arm wasn't hit hit by the missile! Don't bullshit suddenly being able to cut through it
Now fully disarmed (kicks self), Mecha makes a retreat. Thanks to somehow being able to fly, Knux gets Sonic close enough to hurl him at the flying mech, leading to Mecha getting skewered and split

Sonic and co leave, revealing Eggman and Sarah in the wreckage. The doctor fumes about how Eggmanland hosts something far worse than Mecha, which Sarah calls BS
Cutting to another scene, Sonic thanks Knux, with Tails mentioning this

Yeah you guys really need a TV series to flesh this out, there are too many unexplained points for char introductions given how different this is to games, yet casually act like this is status quo. Also why is Sonic the only one shaded there?
Sonic and co realize the sun is setting, meaning that time is almost up before the generator explodes. So they head out, leaving Knux to do his own thing...for about 5 seconds

Knux joins the two, defying gravity while Sonic constantly has to deal with awkward terrain. Given he's a dick, eh

This isn't even an animation error, even bios for this OVA says he flies and not glides for some dumb reason. He's incorrectly referred directly as a mole in dub bios as well (like cuz Harimogura out of context is directly translated as "spiky mole")
But fans like his hat, so Knux is apparently excused for unexplained adaptation changes
That wraps up part 1 cuz of image limit, my thoughts
-Sonic is too douchey and dumb personality wise. His feats mask that for a lot of fans, but I don't buy it. Tails and Knux are alright though, especially with Tails copying Sonic's poses at bits, astraphobia, and his tech prowess, but Knux is just there. Eggman's good though
-The plot is messy. They needed to flesh out char origins for some, and the city
-This won't be fixed, but despite the expanse landscape, there's no fauna or other people shown. Feels weirdly empty
-I'm watching the Bandai Sub version. Eng dub there aren't major changes to plot though, and the translation error is strictly for DVD bios
-Not a fan of South Island being focus for Capital. It weirdly shrinks the world. Insert rant of how everyone is ignoring Sonic Team themselves changing locales
It's aesthetic and fun, but broken and poorly paced when looking past that. I can't fault the Eng dub

Favorite Color(s): I personally love the color black, always have since I was a child. I just find it very... I dunno how to explain it exactly? It's just mesmerizing to me.
Favorite Flavor(s): I love sweet flavors, but my all time favorite flavors are anything that's sour and I mean SOUR. That extremely sour candy? My favorite. I have eaten so many sour things that I have grown immune to most sour candies. I don't pucker my lips, my eyes don't do the squinty thing, nor do they water. This is probably bad since too much sour stuff destroys your mouth, but I have a bad habit of eating sour stuff to the point the roof of my mouth and tongue are all torn up.
Favorite Genres: Horror and mystery are my two most favorite genres! I also enjoy psychological-horror and some of that really old timey adult humor. I dunno, supposed "humor" nowadays just isn't funny to me, it's pretty bland.
Favorite Music: You see, I've listened to a large assortment of music from the time I was little so I don't really know if I have a favorite music type? Though I can say that I enjoy metal music from back in the era of when my parents were growing up, same with their pop music. I also enjoy more... dark styled music too.
Favorite Movie(s): This is a hard one for me because I don't really watch movies anymore, but since I'm a big ass nerd I'll just list some video game movies/anime movies (and a few actual movies I can recall) that I've enjoyed — Sonic the Hedgehog (2020), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022), The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023), Train to Busan (2016), Spider-Man (2002), Spider-Man 2 (2004), Spider-Man 3 (2007), My Hero Academia: Two Heroes (2018), My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising (2019), and My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission (2021) is the last one I'll list because I don't wanna make this too long.
Favorite Series: Just like I did with the movies, I'm only gonna list a few because it'll end up getting WAY too long (I also assume this means any series, whether it's real or anime or video games): Kimetsu no Yaiba (2016 - 2020), Boku no Hero Academia (2014 - Ongoing), Code Geass (2006 - along with any new additions), Sailor Moon (1991 - along with any new additions), Attack on Titan (2013 - 2023), Shugo Chara (2007 - 2010), Resident Evil (1996 - Ongoing), Sonic the Hedgehog (1991 - Ongoing), Kirby (1992 - Ongoing), Stranger Things (2016 - Ongoing), and Fire Emblem (1990 - Ongoing).

*flirting* hey babe did u know that sonic cd was actually not amy rose's first appearance contrary to popular belief. she first appeared in a japan exclusive manga series from 1992 which also happens to be the first appearance of charmy bee, who wouldnt make his game debut until knuckles's chaotix in 1995, a whole three years later. this manga is actually very interesting bc it depicts sonic as a nerdy 10 year old hedgehog named nicky who transforms into "sonic" to fight eggman, much like a superhero. he also has parents and a little sister named tania and wait come back please

Los Creator Reunion File es una serie de entrevistas con grandes desarrolladores de SEGA que ya estaban presentes durante la publicación de las revistas en los primeros años. En esta ocasión, nos presentan una entrevista con Takashi Iizuka, productor principal de Sonic y cabeza del Sonic Team. Aquí un resumen.

Estado Actual
Iizuka asumió el cargo de Director Ejecutivo y Oficial Creativo. En su rol, se enfoca en su faceta como "creador de Sonic" y no tiene la responsabilidad de un departamento comercial o de negocios. Su trabajo implica supervisar y liderar aspectos creativos y de negocios relacionados con Sonic en general, más que centrarse en un departamento específico.
Sonic Team USA gestiona los negocios de Sonic en América y Europa, incluyendo cómics, películas y animaciones, así como las áreas de marketing, relaciones públicas y licencias. El equipo está compuesto por unas 40 personas y no se dedican al desarrollo de juegos, ya que ese rol recae en el Sonic Team en Japón, con quienes colaboran. Iizuka lidera el desarrollo, desempeñando funciones de localización y producción local.
10 años para hacer la primera película. Desde el momento de la idea, proceso de ir buscando productoras. Hubo varios parones durante ese tiempo.
Niñez y Adolescencia
De pequeño y adolescente, Iizuka quería ser mangaka. Sus mangas favoritos son Ashita no Joe (Joe del Mañana) y Doraemon.
Desde el instituto se enfocó en ciencias y no le gustaban las humanidades. Compró la NES cerca de su lanzamiento y sus primeros juegos fueron Donkey Kong y Klu Klu Land, aunque su primer contacto con los videojuegos fue Pong. Durante el instituto, creaba juegos de aventura simples con un amigo con un FM-7 donde se encargaba del Pixel Art. Sus juegos favoritos eran los de aventura, destacando The Portopia Serial Murder Case y Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom. 
Primeros años en SEGA
Conoció SEGA a través de Fantasy Zone y decidió probar suerte echando su CV al acabar su carrera en SEGA en lugar de las grandes empresas electrónicas como Hitachi o Toshiba que era lo habitual, siendo la única empresa de videojuegos en la que lo hizo.
Entró en SEGA en Abril de 1992. Entre los que entraron al mismo tiempo que él estaban Takaya Segawa, Yuji Uekawa y Tomoko Sasaki.
Fue asignado al Departamento de Consumo, donde la primera tarea de todos los nuevos fue crear un juego. Él creó Debitopi, recientemente incluido en Megadrive Mini 2.
Debitopi fue creado al principio como training de los nuevos en 1 mes. Siendo el de artista y diseñador junto a un programador. En la presentación les gustó mucho el juego y les pidieron que lo completaran como para lanzarlo al mercado. Completarlo llevó 3 meses.
Quería trabajar en la sección de AM (Arcade). Le pidió expresamente a Hisao Oguchi entrar en AM3 pero fue rechazado: “Esfuérzate todo lo que puedas en el departamento de Consumo.”
Su primer trabajo fue en Golden Axe 3 después de realizar Debitopi.
Sonic 3
Conocía a Sonic de oídas pero no conocía ni al equipo, ni sabía donde se desarrollaba.
Mientras hacían el trabajo de debug de Sonic 2 en Japón, su jefe le ofreció ir a hacer Sonic 3, pero en América. 
5 fueron elegidos para ir a América. Entre ellos, Takashi "Thomas" Yuda (creador de Knuckles).
Naka pidió a Japón “un equipo de élite” para hacer Sonic 3. “Harán el 3er juego de nuestra serie estrella. Mandad a los mejores”. En el primer encuentro con Iizuka le respondió “¡Pero si eres un novato!”. Aparte de Iizuka, el resto del equipo venía del Equipo de Game Gear. Naka no estaba muy satisfecho con ello.
Estaba planeado usar el chip SVP de Virtua Racing desde el principio queriendo hacer un juego 3D.
Naka estuvo un tiempo probando las posibilidades con este chip durante 6 meses.. El proyecto nunca dejó la fase de test e investigación, no llegaron a un punto que les convenciera.
Tener un personaje rival para Sonic estuvo en planes desde el principio. Sería un personaje que tomara rutas que no tomaría Sonic de normal. La primera idea fue un topo, si Sonic va por el suelo, el topo lo haría por el subsuelo. En este punto el juego ya era 2D tradicional.
El plan al principio era usar cartuchos con el doble de capacidad que los usados para Sonic 2, ya que los mapas iban a ser más grandes para una ruta para Sonic, otra por debajo para Knuckles y otra por encima para Tails. El tamaño de un solo mapa era tan grande como una mesa de conferencia (8 asientos) que no cabían en los cartuchos.
Faltando solo medio año y con los mapas tan grandes que apenas cabían en los cartuchos, se llegó a la solución de partir el juego en dos partes.
Iizuka fue el encargado de Launch Base Zone. Le pidieron que cambie las fases para que pareciera una zona final, jefe incluido.
Después de que terminaran con la primera parte (Sonic 3), Naka vino con la idea de hacer el sistema lock-on para la segunda parte y se lo propuso al equipo de Hardware y se hizo.
 Iizuka estuvo 1 año y medio en América durante el desarrollo de Sonic 3.
Dentro del equipo simplemente llamaban a Knuckles “topo” (mogura). Decidieron la especie junto a Tom Kalinske que decidió mirar por distintas enciclopedias ya que hay distintas especies de topos.
No todo el equipo volvió a Japón al terminar. Quienes querían quedarse en EEUU se quedaron, entre ellos Hirokazu Yasuhara.
NiGHTS y Sonic Jam
Al volver, a Iizuka le asignaron un juego de la J-League. Victory Goal. pero al volver Naka de América le propuso a Iizuka volver a trabajar juntos aunque nadie tenía realmente un concepto juego y se decidió que Iizuka diera con ello. Después de varias ideas, surgió NiGHTS into Dreams.
El equipo de desarrollo decidió tomarse un descanso de Sonic al volver. Sin embargo, en el extranjero, debido al potencial comercial de la franquicia, surgieron varias propuestas, dando lugar a títulos como "Sonic R" y "Sonic 3D: Flickies Island".
Después de completar "NiGHTS", se decidió crear una versión de los juegos clásicos de Sonic para Sega Saturn, lo cual dio origen a "Sonic Jam". Paralelamente, Iizuka propuso un RPG de Sonic, pero no se llegó a realizar.
Iizuka era un fanático de los RPGs (como FF y Dragon Quest) y propuso un juego de Sonic en formato RPG, aunque finalmente se convirtió en un juego de acción y aventura. Esta idea no se llevó a cabo y solo se realizaron experimentos de movimiento en 3D con Sonic en Sega Saturn, algunos de los cuales se incluyeron en "Sonic Jam" como contenido adicional.
Sonic Adventure
En ese momento se enteraron de la nueva consola “Dreamcast” y decidieron crear un Sonic con las bases que habían estado experimentando. Sin embargo habían llegado a la conclusión que no se podía transmitir la velocidad de Sonic en 3D como sí podían hacerlo otros juegos.
Iizuka planteó la pregunta de cómo lograr un Sonic en 3D y tuvo la idea de que si se mantenía presionado el botón de dirección hacia arriba, el personaje correría directamente hacia el objetivo, como en los juegos de Sonic en 2D.
Sin embargo, se presentó el desafío de los caminos torcidos, por lo que Iizuka decidió hacer que la cámara se moviera para permitir al personaje correr por esos caminos manteniendo presionado hacia arriba.
Iizuka experimentó con diferentes ideas y finalmente logró que la cámara funcionara de manera que siempre estuviera orientada hacia adelante, permitiendo que el jugador experimentara la jugabilidad r��pida y fluida característica de Sonic en 3D.
El equipo estaba formado por 50-60 personas. Iizuka lo considera un juego masivo.
A pesar de los desafíos, lograron lanzar el juego a tiempo para la temporada navideña cercana al lanzamiento de Dreamcast. Sin embargo, Iizuka menciona que no estaba completamente satisfecho con el juego debido a las dificultades causadas por la colaboración de diferentes equipos y programadores, lo que provocó cierta falta de coherencia y cohesión en el título.
Aunque el juego estaba completo, había algunos errores y problemas de programación que afectaron la satisfacción personal de Iizuka. La versión "International" del juego se hizo para abordar algunos de estos problemas y se realizó en los Estados Unidos.
Sonic Adventure 2
Iizuka viajó a los Estados Unidos para trabajar en la versión "International" y posteriormente también trabajó en "Sonic Adventure 2".
La idea de hacer la secuela en los Estados Unidos surgió debido al éxito de "Sonic the Hedgehog 2", que se hizo en los Estados Unidos, y Iizuka deseaba seguir una estrategia similar para el crecimiento global de la franquicia.
Iizuka solicitó la oportunidad de hacer "Sonic Adventure 2" en los Estados Unidos después de lanzar "Sonic Adventure" en Japón.
Se llevaron aproximadamente 11 personas desde Japón para formar parte del equipo de desarrollo en Estados Unidos.
El anuncio sorpresa de "Sonic Adventure 2" se hizo en el E3 de 2000, generando sorpresa y expectación en los medios.
Inicialmente, no se tenía la intención de crear el "Sonic Adventure 2" en Estados Unidos, pero se recibió el encargo de desarrollarlo. El desarrollo del juego se llevó a cabo en un periodo de alrededor de 2 años.
A pesar de tener un equipo de desarrollo reducido, se realizaron ajustes en la cantidad de escenarios y personajes para mantener la calidad del juego.
Se introdujo el personaje Shadow como parte de la historia y se tuvo la idea de presentar dos escenarios jugables, uno para Sonic y otro para el personaje rival.
"Sonic Adventure 2" enfrentó dificultades con su lanzamiento. Parecía incierto si el juego tendría éxito. Iizuka sentía que habían creado un juego que podía conquistar el mundo, pero las continuas reducciones de precio de Dreamcast generaron preocupación.
Hubo una historia sobre Andy Garcia, quien visitó en secreto a Sega y expresó la admiración de su hijo por Shadow. Le regalaron un tablero de snowboard de Shadow como novedad.
Después de SEGA, Nintendo
Sonic Team se adaptó rápidamente a múltiples plataformas, pero ya existía el deseo de trabajar con Nintendo. Iizuka permaneció en Estados Unidos incluso después de que Sega discontinuara Dreamcast y poco después colocó un anuncio que mostraba a Sonic y GameCube en una revista. Su objetivo era crear "Sonic Adventure 2 Battle" para el hardware de Nintendo, impulsados por el deseo de lanzar el juego en una plataforma como la de Nintendo.
Iizuka afirma que en ese momento, Nintendo era la única opción para ellos. Aunque Xbox también estaba presente, su enfoque siempre había sido desarrollar juegos para las plataformas de Sega, por lo que no tenían experiencia en el desarrollo multiplataforma. Decidieron que si no tenían las plataformas de Sega, optarían por las de Nintendo y competir en el mismo campo que Mario.
En cuanto a los títulos más memorables a lo largo de los últimos 10 o 20 años, Iizuka destaca "Sonic Adventure 2" como el que le brindó mayor satisfacción, ya que fue un juego divertido que pudieron desarrollar con un equipo pequeño, bajo costo y en poco tiempo. También menciona "Sonic Colors" y "Sonic Generations" como títulos significativos. A partir de "Sonic Colors", Iizuka asumió el papel de productor para todos los títulos de Sonic, en lugar de director de proyectos individuales, lo cual fue un cambio importante en su carrera y le otorga un gran valor sentimental a esos títulos.
La actualidad
El desarrollo de nuevos títulos de Sonic ha tomado más tiempo en los últimos años. Antes, solían lanzar juegos en un ciclo de dos años, pero ahora lleva más tiempo. "Sonic Frontiers" tardó cinco años en desarrollarse.
"Sonic Frontiers" fue un proyecto difícil y se necesitó mucho tiempo para realizar experimentos y correcciones en la primera mitad de esos cinco años. 
No quieren limitarse a lanzar solo un juego cada cinco años. Por eso, están trabajando en varios proyectos simultáneamente para poder lanzar nuevos títulos de manera continua.
En cuanto al tamaño del equipo de desarrollo de "Sonic Frontiers", durante los primeros seis meses de experimentación, el equipo constaba de alrededor de 30 a 40 personas, lo que es el tamaño típico para el desarrollo de juegos. Sin embargo, a medida que avanzaba la fase de producción y se necesitaba crear una mayor cantidad de contenido, el equipo creció a 70-80 personas.
El éxito de la película ha tenido un gran impacto en la marca Sonic y en los negocios relacionados con Sonic. A partir del éxito de la película, han recibido propuestas de colaboración en animación y otros productos de licencia de importantes empresas. Han experimentado un aumento en el valor de la marca Sonic gracias al éxito de la película. Además, el nombre de Sonic se ha extendido a regiones de baja penetración de consolas de videojuegos, como América del Sur y el Medio Oriente, gracias al efecto de la película.

Added the version of Slipstream onto Aleena's Persona Sonic AU page. Like with my other work, they're Sonic's parents for the Persona Sonic AU, and they both have a pivotal role in the plot I have in the AU, but it's a bit spoilery about when they come in.
Unlike the other Persona games, which feature either absentee parents, dead parents, or parents who obstruct the characters, along with other adult characters doing either of these things, I want the adult characters to help shape the characters a bit more, and allow them to interact with the plot by making them realize how much the main characters are stuck in the problem.
As for Aleena and Slipstream here, I plan on taking aspects of other Sonic parents, along with my own version of Aleena and Slipstream personalities as well. Slipstream will have an interest in planes and runs a pretty successful seaplane tourist company - which is surprisingly popular in Vancouver - like how Paulie was a jet fighter test pilot in the 1992 manga.
Aleena herself is based off of how Japanese company Presidents seem to be treated in fiction - mainly, as aristocrats. I wanted to give Aleena that sense of being queenly while also not having that queenly connection, which is why I chose Company CEO/President.
I know I want both of them to have Japanese names, but I need to figure out what would work...

Odd little irony I’ve realized
Okay so dig this- Sonic CD had a bit of concept art that actually gives a year for when Eggman was born, which is given as 1931.

Now, if you accept that as being indicative of Eggman’s proper age, and if you accept the first Sonic game as taking place in the year of its release (more or less), which was in 1991? Then Eggman is approximately 60 years old! 
Pretty well preserved for a guy in his 60s, but then, he DOES have the power of SCIENCE! on his side. 
So where’s the irony? Weellll.... it just so happens that Jim Carrey, Robotnik’s actor in the Sonic movies, is ALSO 60 years old as of January 17, 2022.
