A what-if scenario

William Afton: Edwin gave the Spring Bonnie suit girly eyelashes!? Henry: Well, to be fair, Will... you named him "Bonnie." That's a girl's name. William: It sounds like "bunny"! I thought it was cute! Henry: It is cute, but it's usually a girl's name, Will! William: Hmph. Whatever. Wearing it better not awaken something in me. William: *puts on the Spring Bonnie suit* William: *looks at himself in the mirror* William: ... William: Oh damn it. It's awakened something in me. Henry: Is it gender-affirming or dark and murderous? William: Why not both...?

SECRET OF THE MIMIC SPOILERS/SPECULATION

I find it very interesting that Fazbear Entertainment opted against using Edwin's design for a safer springlock suit; especially considering they were the ones who originally requested it in the first place. Although it's possible that Henry and William simply didn't like the design, another possibility occurred to me while I was reflecting on The Silver Eyes novel.

As we all know, The Silver Eyes makes a huge point to suggest that William Afton has a strange relationship with Spring-Bonnie. It's more than merely a disguise—it's a form of self-expression. William feels most comfortable when he's wearing it, and it provides him the security and confidence to reveal his true self. The suit makes him feel powerful, strong, and most of all untouchable.

This is why he refuses to speak during the interrogation scene of the book until robot Charlie places the Spring-Bonnie mask on his head:

“That's it? You want that?” Charlie stood and approached the [Springbonnie] mask. “You need this?” she added in a whisper.

Behind all his facades, Afton is a pathetic coward. He manipulates, deceives, and exploits others for his own gain—but deep down, he's afraid of being called out for the monster he really is. Losing control over his victims in that way terrifies him. In this moment, he finds himself powerless. Robot Charlie and her friends know exactly who he really is and the awful crimes he had committed. The "Dave Miller" act he had been hiding behind the whole book had been exposed as a sham and Afton finds he has nowhere left to hide or run.

He's vulnerable, and in this moment of weakness he needs his Spring-Bonnie persona to drop his many facades and be his authentic self.

Although The Silver Eyes novel trilogy never explicitly states why William developed this unusual attitude towards the Spring-Bonnie suit, Springtrap notably refers to Spring-Bonnie as his creation in The Twisted Ones:

“I’ve accepted the new life that you gave me. You’ve made me one with my creation. My name is Springtrap! I'm far more than Afton ever was and far more than Henry.”

This means that even if Henry created the original springlock suits, Spring-Bonnie is, at it's core, William's character or design— his fursona, if you will.

On another note, Secret of The Mimic is amazing and I can't wait to see where the franchise goes next.

When you connect all these details, it's possible that Afton was simply too attached to his design for Spring-Bonnie to let Edwin's prototypes replace it. I'm not sure if this has enough evidence to be called a theory but it's an interesting connection nonetheless.

I will admit there are many more reasons William and Henry could have rejected Edwin's prototypes but I still think this possibility is worth considering.

Okay so secret of the mimic came out four days ago and

WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT OUR FIRST CANNON APPEARANCE OF SPRINGBONNIE AND FREDBEAR

(animatronic ones not pixel/minigame ones)

And I know they don’t outright say it (I think) it looks pretty close (fredbear even has his purple bow tie!! :D) (and a mouth that looks like it could fit a child’s skull >:/) /silly

And though it isn’t that accurate to the graphic novels (fredbear has a blue bowtie) I think it is supposed to be him (it even matches his pixel sprite!!)

But THATS just a theory a GAME theory 😼
