#WhiteRock – #SpringMountain Conservation Estate is of high cultural significance to the #Ugarapul people 🍃it is a large sandstone rock formation  referred to as #Nugum or #Boogun (meaning dog) and was an important area for women’s business. Currently members of the Ugarapul people are setting up a program for pregnant Aboriginal women to come out to the area and partake in #womensbusiness with the elders. It has been continuously expressed that climbing the rock formation is off limits to men and non indigenous members of the community - please respect this custom 🌿 ℹThe area was taken over as a rifle range in 1912 and used for military training in World War I, World War II and Vietnam, with remains of gun pits and bunkers still present today. It was a 2-bottle night, but not in a good way. One bottle got poured down the drain and I had to get another. I found a 1997 York Creek Vineyards Meritage at @grocery_outlet and the online reviews looked good. The wine was gone - super oxidized and lacking any balance that would make me choke down any more. So I pivoted and opened a 2010 Grange Cuvee from the excellent Sonoma winery Williamson Wines. Predominantly Syrah, a delicious Rhône blend. And we continue with the 2014 @smith_madrone Chardonnay Napa Valley Spring Mountain District - in the glass this is a stunning straw yellow hue; bouquet has notes of pear, peach, lemon meringue with a hint of pineapple. There is a beautiful undercurrent of rock and flint. On the palate, this is round and generous with honeyed lemon, wet stones and beautiful acid. The alcohol at 14.3% is integrated and the whole experience is harmonious through its extended finish. Fat soft nose crammed with tertiary, all your uric-tanned leather, NyQuil, and pepper-wood buttery banana clam-juice sweet/savory decadence is alive for you here.
