In-character letters I sent my friends... >:]c
This was back in february and almost all of them arrived on time for Valentine's Day which was a very funny timing. I love sending physical mail so much and all the more when it allows me to haunt my friends with their favorite characters addressing them/their OCs directly...
I changed the handwriting for each character, trying to adapt it to the kind of person that they were (I didn't go fishing for canon examples of it, just made some up myself hgbgh), wrote using pens, pencils, fountain pens or printing depending on what I felt fit each of them best, and also varied the kind of medium they used: actual proper letter paper, or printer paper with graphic elements on them, or crappy notebook paper... And it was all so fun to do ;v;
Bob for @claraknight The Flanders family and Meyers for @cherryberg The Lovejoy family for @salcreus Kent Brockman and Chalmers for @birbwell
Closeups of the Springfield Elementary Flyer:

I suck at graphic design and in this case? It at least felt very befitting for Springfield Elementary. Look at this catastrophically gaudy thing, printed on crappy cheap paper, and tell me that's not on-brand.
And the Itchy & Scratchy 'totally real' Animation Cel Meyers sent alongside his letter:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I genuinely made it the traditional way, on a plastic cel on which I drew the lineart on one side, and painted the colors with gouache on the other... It came out much better than I hoped it would and I'm so happy about it :] ♥

We had literally none of these things. It was just a field of tarmac and you weren't allowed balls or skipping ropes or to even walk on the grass in the perimeter. Eventually they even banned running around as schools were so overcrowded they were worried about kids falling and the parents taking legal action. I got in shit for jumping in puddles.

Additional Information Regarding the TEC-DC9M
There has been some inquiry into how we can confirm that Dylan's pistol was the DC Mini model. Below is additional information pertaining to this firearm. The TEC-9 series includes several models and variants:
TEC-DC9
TEC-DC9S (stainless steel)
TEC-DC9K (stainless steel Kote finish)
TEC-DC9M (mini)
TEC-DC9MS (mini stainless steel)
TEC-DC9MK (mini stainless steel Kote finish)
Identification of Dylan's TEC-DC9M Model
It is essential to differentiate between the TEC-9, the TEC-DC9, and the TEC-DC9M. The TEC-9 and TEC-DC9 are distinct models, with the TEC-DC9M (mini) being a smaller variant of the TEC-DC9. The manufacturer of the TEC-9 pistols, Interdynamic USA/Intratec, was founded by George Kellgren and Carlos Garcia, but it is no longer in operation. The TEC-9 was originally the KG-99, which was rebranded in 1984 when Kellgren sold his stake in the company to Garcia.
Clarification on TEC-9 vs. TEC-DC9
The TEC-9 is the original model. Following the Cleveland Elementary School shooting in 1989, California enacted the Roberti-Roos assault weapons ban, explicitly naming the TEC-9. To comply with this legislation, Intratec rebranded the TEC-9 to the TEC-DC9 in 1990, modifying certain features to ensure legality in California. The “DC” denotes “Designed/Designated for California.” We can confirm that Dylan’s firearm was manufactured after the 1989 ban due to two post-ban features:
Single-Mount Sling Point: The TEC-DC9 features a single-mount sling point at the rear, as opposed to the original TEC-9's two sling points. Dylan's firearm exhibits this single-mount sling point, confirming it as a “DC” model.
Stamped Sights: The original TEC-9 utilized a high-quality button sight, while stamped sights (spot welded) were introduced around 1987. A firearm with both a stamped front sight and a single-mount sling point is definitively a post-ban TEC and therefore a “DC” model.
Confirmation of the Mini Model (DC-9M)
The distinction between the TEC-DC9 and TEC-DC9M models is significant, as the “M” indicates “mini.” Similar to the KG-99 being rebranded as the TEC-9, the KG-99 Mini was rebranded as the “TEC-9 Mini.” We can confirm that Dylan’s firearm was the mini model based on the following criteria:
Barrel Length: All mini DC9M models feature a 3” barrel, in contrast to the 5” barrel of the standard DC9 model. Dylan’s firearm has a 3” barrel, easily identifiable when compared to a TEC-9.
Overall Length: According to the manufacturer's specifications, the TEC-DC9M measures 10.5” in length, which corresponds exactly to the dimensions of Dylan's pistol.

Simpsons headcanon is that Mr Burns had deliberately sabotaged the Springfield Elementary oil well by intentionally making it hyperpolluting and inefficient to prevent any other buyers from coming in and potentially threatening his energy monopoly and also ruining the site for any future owners while being able to write it off as a business expense for taxes.
The existence of that oil well combined with how the presence of the Gay Steel Mill implies Springfield has ready access to large amounts of coal means that Mr Burns had to build his nuclear plant in an area where oil and coal would’ve been easily accessible as sources of energy. I maintain that this suggests at some point in the past Mr Burns had engaged in some hostile actions to undermine then existing oil or coal energy plants in the area which would’ve been to such an extent that he was able to get his nuclear plant built. This would also explain Burns’ reputation for being ruthless and cutthroat despite how he seems to be fairly parochial with his business interests because he had managed to defeat several powerful business interests to carve out his own fiefdom.
So basically my headcanon is that around the 1950s Mr Burns was an ambitious capitalist futurist utopian like Walt Disney or Andrew Ryan and had a grand ambition to make Springfield an advanced “Atomic City” and that he was partially able to succeed by establishing his nuclear plant as having an energy monopoly but was unable to enact his societally transformative ambitions but that this is the reason he still occasionally makes attempts to take over the town. For all I know this may have been the exact plot of one of the hundreds of episodes released since I last watched idk

Poisson d'avril! (WIP)
Tumblr media
There are many ways to celebrate April Fools in the world - and the kids of Springfield Elementary school recently learnt that in France, we call it "April Fish" - a day during which the main prank is attempting to stick a paper fish on people's back without being noticed. The teachers thought this would keep the kids busy during this dreadful day... but that's without taking account of Bart's creativity as it comes to pranks. So really. Why use some piece of paper when you can drop - not so fresh - fish freshly stolen from the cafeteria?

Note
There was a classic Simpsons episode where Springfield Elementary teachers went on strike, and the PTA responded by bringing in residents (including Marge Simpson) as replacement teachers. Would this count as union busting or crossing the picket line? If yes, I wonder why it was depicted as largely benevolent considering that Simpsons writers and plots tend to lean liberal.
Tumblr media
Let's not mince words, it's 100% scabbing. It's not just crossing a picket line as a customer, it's crossing a picket line in order to work as non-union temporary labor, with the intent to crush the strike.
I don't agree that it's depicted as benevolent behavior - the whole gag of the middle portion of the episode is that the scabs are terrible fucking teachers. Frink is completely wasted in preschool and doesn't let the kids play with toys, Jasper is a physically abusive idiot who gets his beard stuck in a pencil sharpener, and Moe and the like are total pushovers when it comes to Bart's pranks. The only one who can manage a classroom at all is Marge, and even then she's incredibly embarrassing and unprofessional with Bart. (Notable difference compared to how she does in "Whacking Day.")
Also, it's not necessarily the case that Simpsons writers are always left-leaning. John Swartzwelder is notoriously incredibly conservative and his scripts tended to push his libertarian views pretty strongly.

Ultimately this is low-stakes local queer activism drama, but it's the perfect example of how people use a goal of perfection to actively sabotage good work happening in their own communities to support marginalized people.
The Lavender Network is a coalition of queer organizations in the cities of Eugene/Springfield Oregon. Queer Eugene, Eugene Pride, TransPonder, HIV Alliance, and Authentic Movement Project. Black Thistle Street Aid also uses it as a drop-off location. It formed so they could all move in together, share office space, and create a queer community center where people could access them all instead of running all over town to access community and aid. It also helps all of them work together in a unified front since they can just pop down the hall.
Eugene Pride in particular has spent nearly 40 years operating out of kitchen tables because they couldn't afford a space, despite now being one of the largest Pride Festivals in the Northwest. (Another organization people love to complain about never doing enough while the same people never attend open planning meetings, learn anything about what their real challenges are, or do anything at all to help them. Just constantly shitting on other people's real efforts is praxis apparently.) Meanwhile leadership fights left and right for everything they want to do with the resources they actually have. Including organizing a big action at a city council meeting last year to voice frustrations with the City and Eugene Police.
They chose the defunct Trinity United Methodist Church building, which is also an Egan Warming Center location (emergency homeless shelters for below-freezing weather), and a day care. (Eugene loves converting old churches into secular community centers like the Maud Kerns Art Center and Shedd Institute concert hall and music school.)
The River Road area of Northwest Eugene isn't the most centrally located place in the city, but it's also not the boonies. One of the major high schools is down the street, as well as a middle school and elementary school. It's also one of the cheaper areas of the city. It was pretty easy for us to get to from across town, easy to spot (grand mid-century modern church building), and has a big parking lot, which is often rare in this city.
The nearest bus stop is half a mile away, which isn't door-to-door service, but isn't unusual. My home is also around half a mile from the nearest bus stop, and had better public transport a century ago. It's a flat walk on as decent of sidewalks as you find in this town, and the building itself has no stairs or other access problems. Could be better in theory, but not insurmountable.
Well, apparently someone or some group out there is so mad that they didn't choose a location directly on a bus rout that they've been buying ads on social media shit-talking the entire organization and claiming that they clearly don't care about all members of their community so we shouldn't trust their leadership. That it's morally derelict to not be directly on a bus line. A thing the organization has been forced to make a public statement about.
But the thing is, the Lavender Network has both a Community Council and a Leadership Council who had to do the actual work of choosing a space that met as many criteria as possible, but no space was perfect. This was just the best that was actually available to them when considering staff availability to transport people to the center, budget, accessibility into and within the building, office space, parking, and community space. Every single criteria except being directly on a bus line was met. And those Councils have been discussing how to improve transportation access the entire time. Including just contacting the org running the even to ask for help with transportation so mutual aid can fill in what city services have not.
At no point have the ad-buyers attended city council meetings to request the city who could actually do something about this issue, and there's no indication they've started a letter writing campaign to bring their concerns to Lane Transit District who runs the bus system and controls the routs. They have, in fact, been operating as a totally anonymous shadow organization whose only goal is to undermine the community center. Acting as though undermining that work is the only way to insure someone better does everything perfectly instead.
No one seems to be aware of whether the ad buyers are misguided queer people, or if it's a gambit by right-wing organizers to sabotage unifying efforts. It's concern trolling at best. Distracting from the major issues facing our community to bitch at people with very little control over the situation while ignoring the people with the actual power to change anything. Whoever is behind it, it has riled up real queer people now making a nuisance of themselves with social media call-out posts instead of doing literally anything that would improve the situation.
Nothing is every perfect, and no one should do anything until it is. Nothing can ever be good enough for now while improving it later. Because we all know the the most effective praxis is mercilessly attacking people who agree with you in order to divide everyone and make them fight the most pointless battle possible instead of the actual literal fascists trying to make us all illegal.
