Additional Information Regarding the TEC-DC9M
There has been some inquiry into how we can confirm that Dylan's pistol was the DC Mini model. Below is additional information pertaining to this firearm. The TEC-9 series includes several models and variants:
TEC-DC9
TEC-DC9S (stainless steel)
TEC-DC9K (stainless steel Kote finish)
TEC-DC9M (mini)
TEC-DC9MS (mini stainless steel)
TEC-DC9MK (mini stainless steel Kote finish)
Identification of Dylan's TEC-DC9M Model
It is essential to differentiate between the TEC-9, the TEC-DC9, and the TEC-DC9M. The TEC-9 and TEC-DC9 are distinct models, with the TEC-DC9M (mini) being a smaller variant of the TEC-DC9. The manufacturer of the TEC-9 pistols, Interdynamic USA/Intratec, was founded by George Kellgren and Carlos Garcia, but it is no longer in operation. The TEC-9 was originally the KG-99, which was rebranded in 1984 when Kellgren sold his stake in the company to Garcia.
Clarification on TEC-9 vs. TEC-DC9
The TEC-9 is the original model. Following the Cleveland Elementary School shooting in 1989, California enacted the Roberti-Roos assault weapons ban, explicitly naming the TEC-9. To comply with this legislation, Intratec rebranded the TEC-9 to the TEC-DC9 in 1990, modifying certain features to ensure legality in California. The “DC” denotes “Designed/Designated for California.” We can confirm that Dylan’s firearm was manufactured after the 1989 ban due to two post-ban features:
Single-Mount Sling Point: The TEC-DC9 features a single-mount sling point at the rear, as opposed to the original TEC-9's two sling points. Dylan's firearm exhibits this single-mount sling point, confirming it as a “DC” model.
Stamped Sights: The original TEC-9 utilized a high-quality button sight, while stamped sights (spot welded) were introduced around 1987. A firearm with both a stamped front sight and a single-mount sling point is definitively a post-ban TEC and therefore a “DC” model.
Confirmation of the Mini Model (DC-9M)
The distinction between the TEC-DC9 and TEC-DC9M models is significant, as the “M” indicates “mini.” Similar to the KG-99 being rebranded as the TEC-9, the KG-99 Mini was rebranded as the “TEC-9 Mini.” We can confirm that Dylan’s firearm was the mini model based on the following criteria:
Barrel Length: All mini DC9M models feature a 3” barrel, in contrast to the 5” barrel of the standard DC9 model. Dylan’s firearm has a 3” barrel, easily identifiable when compared to a TEC-9.
Overall Length: According to the manufacturer's specifications, the TEC-DC9M measures 10.5” in length, which corresponds exactly to the dimensions of Dylan's pistol.

Poisson d'avril! (WIP)
There are many ways to celebrate April Fools in the world - and the kids of Springfield Elementary school recently learnt that in France, we call it "April Fish" - a day during which the main prank is attempting to stick a paper fish on people's back without being noticed. The teachers thought this would keep the kids busy during this dreadful day... but that's without taking account of Bart's creativity as it comes to pranks. So really. Why use some piece of paper when you can drop - not so fresh - fish freshly stolen from the cafeteria?
#miss tic tac drawing#The Simpsons#Simpsons fanart#fanart#Edna Krabappel#Bart Simpson#Seymour Skinner#Principal Skinner#I sadly won't have the time to finish this today (and this isn't an April's fool!)#but I still think the WIP looks good enough to show it while it's STILL April 1st somewhere#(30-ish minutes late here in France... snif...).#anyway at last!!! Here is some proper Simpsons fanart(tm) for a change ♥#Background is not mine btw- it's taken from an episode screenshot#I'll see if I can finish this tomorrow... but for now - enjoy!

Ultimately this is low-stakes local queer activism drama, but it's the perfect example of how people use a goal of perfection to actively sabotage good work happening in their own communities to support marginalized people.
The Lavender Network is a coalition of queer organizations in the cities of Eugene/Springfield Oregon. Queer Eugene, Eugene Pride, TransPonder, HIV Alliance, and Authentic Movement Project. Black Thistle Street Aid also uses it as a drop-off location. It formed so they could all move in together, share office space, and create a queer community center where people could access them all instead of running all over town to access community and aid. It also helps all of them work together in a unified front since they can just pop down the hall.
Eugene Pride in particular has spent nearly 40 years operating out of kitchen tables because they couldn't afford a space, despite now being one of the largest Pride Festivals in the Northwest. (Another organization people love to complain about never doing enough while the same people never attend open planning meetings, learn anything about what their real challenges are, or do anything at all to help them. Just constantly shitting on other people's real efforts is praxis apparently.) Meanwhile leadership fights left and right for everything they want to do with the resources they actually have. Including organizing a big action at a city council meeting last year to voice frustrations with the City and Eugene Police.
They chose the defunct Trinity United Methodist Church building, which is also an Egan Warming Center location (emergency homeless shelters for below-freezing weather), and a day care. (Eugene loves converting old churches into secular community centers like the Maud Kerns Art Center and Shedd Institute concert hall and music school.)
The River Road area of Northwest Eugene isn't the most centrally located place in the city, but it's also not the boonies. One of the major high schools is down the street, as well as a middle school and elementary school. It's also one of the cheaper areas of the city. It was pretty easy for us to get to from across town, easy to spot (grand mid-century modern church building), and has a big parking lot, which is often rare in this city.
The nearest bus stop is half a mile away, which isn't door-to-door service, but isn't unusual. My home is also around half a mile from the nearest bus stop, and had better public transport a century ago. It's a flat walk on as decent of sidewalks as you find in this town, and the building itself has no stairs or other access problems. Could be better in theory, but not insurmountable.
Well, apparently someone or some group out there is so mad that they didn't choose a location directly on a bus rout that they've been buying ads on social media shit-talking the entire organization and claiming that they clearly don't care about all members of their community so we shouldn't trust their leadership. That it's morally derelict to not be directly on a bus line. A thing the organization has been forced to make a public statement about.
But the thing is, the Lavender Network has both a Community Council and a Leadership Council who had to do the actual work of choosing a space that met as many criteria as possible, but no space was perfect. This was just the best that was actually available to them when considering staff availability to transport people to the center, budget, accessibility into and within the building, office space, parking, and community space. Every single criteria except being directly on a bus line was met. And those Councils have been discussing how to improve transportation access the entire time. Including just contacting the org running the even to ask for help with transportation so mutual aid can fill in what city services have not.
At no point have the ad-buyers attended city council meetings to request the city who could actually do something about this issue, and there's no indication they've started a letter writing campaign to bring their concerns to Lane Transit District who runs the bus system and controls the routs. They have, in fact, been operating as a totally anonymous shadow organization whose only goal is to undermine the community center. Acting as though undermining that work is the only way to insure someone better does everything perfectly instead.
No one seems to be aware of whether the ad buyers are misguided queer people, or if it's a gambit by right-wing organizers to sabotage unifying efforts. It's concern trolling at best. Distracting from the major issues facing our community to bitch at people with very little control over the situation while ignoring the people with the actual power to change anything. Whoever is behind it, it has riled up real queer people now making a nuisance of themselves with social media call-out posts instead of doing literally anything that would improve the situation.
Nothing is every perfect, and no one should do anything until it is. Nothing can ever be good enough for now while improving it later. Because we all know the the most effective praxis is mercilessly attacking people who agree with you in order to divide everyone and make them fight the most pointless battle possible instead of the actual literal fascists trying to make us all illegal.

For the Simpsons OC ask, about Laurel, how about 6, 9, 14, 19 and 32? c:
[Simpsons OC Asks]
FINALLY after multiple weeks of this sitting in my inbox, trying to get a couple drawings for the answers done (and it taking entirely too long because of how absolutely DEMONIC my parents turn during moves), and other emotional turmoils I can answer these:
6 – What’s your OC’s personality like? Are they carefree and chill, or are they more likely to take things seriously (like Frank Grimes)?
Much like how Skinner was originally a caricature of the stereotypical school administrator in his inception, Laurel definitely comes off a boring, no-nonsense, fairly bland teacher type—she’s the new substitute teacher at Springfield Elementary, filling in when needed (and she’s needed a shockingly large amount more than she ever expected), and she certainly, just from the way she carries herself, is a woman you would look at and think “yeah, that’s a teacher alright.”
On the surface, Laurel seems humorless, and only interested in doing her job with as little interruption as possible—she’s the kind of substitute most kids dread (the kind that expects you to do work, the same as you would if your regular teacher was there—there’s no “just putting on a movie” with her!) and she tolerates no tomfoolery in *her* classroom (even if it’s not actually *her* classroom).
Of course, this facade of “business only” is just a cover to hide the deeply depressed, tired, and barely hanging on by a thread.
9 – What are your OC’s hobbies?
Once, 25 years ago, there was a little girl in Capital City who dreamed of becoming a country music star, she would practice singing and playing guitar day and night—ten years later, freshly an adult, she would try out for a television show in the next town over looking for performers to fill its time where she caught the eye of Krusty the Clown—but unfortunately…not for her talents.
After 5 miserable years working on that show as a “silent cowgirl” doing nothing else other than lasso tricks (which she wasn’t even all that great at), she fell pregnant—by the clown himself—and suddenly any chances of her dream had to be put on the back-burner indefinitely.
After a 9 month, completely loveless marriage, followed by a divorce filed mere *hours* after birthing her daughter—she knew her priorities had to lie elsewhere now. So she moved back to Capital City, living with her extremely elderly grandmother and newborn daughter, and went to college to get a degree in substitute teaching (she needed something that wouldn’t take all of her time, since she had a baby to take care of, after all). 10 years later, she was tired of big city life, and decided to come back to Springfield with her daughter, and started working at Springfield Elementary.
Now, you must be wondering “what’s all this have to do with hobbies?”
Well, you see, sometimes late at night, when her daughter’s fast asleep, she pulls her guitar out of the storage closet in her home that she keeps it in, and plays a little bit—while thinking of what could have been. Of course, in the event she was ever caught playing…she’d just claim it’s because “learning music helps the brain stay sharp.”
14 – How would you consider your OC’s role in the show? Are they a major character like the Simpson family? Are they more likely to just be seen in the background? Or something in between?
Realistically? She probably couldn’t ever be a “main” character—after all, her last name isn’t Simpson (nor is she related to the family in any way—even if she does have the trademark blue hair that the Bouvier’s have!) Not to mention, I would want her to be voiced by Mitski (who I imagine is busy enough she wouldn’t be able to just regularly show up in episodes more than maybe once or twice every couple of seasons)
But to me? Well, she’s MY main character. Well, one of them. (Gloria came first, and it’s through Gloria’s story that Laurel’s story can even happen the way it does!)
I’ve put a lot of time, effort, and research into making her a well rounded character, so of course, I would want her to get as much focus as possible.
19 – Are there other activities that your OC likes to do outside their daily routine?
I imagine Laurel is a very simple person—she really just goes to work and them comes home—and she doesn’t like interruption to her routine in any manner. Of course…without interruption to that routine, she probably wouldn’t have ended up with her new romantic interest…
32 – Your OC is either in trouble or feeling terrible. Who’s the first person they can rely on for help?
Before Laurel met Skinner, the answer to this question would have just been “well, no. There isn’t anyone”
Her whole life—even from childhood! Has been her learning to never rely on anyone for anything. She was abandoned by her parents from a young age, so they’re both out of the question. Her daughter is only but 9/10 years old, so far too young to put all of her problems onto! Her grandmother passed away 5 years ago—so that door is closed. She couldn’t even rely on her ex husband to show up to their daughter’s birth. She has no friends, no relatives in America (so her cousin from Japan that she writes to from time to time can’t really do much for her.)
So when she became involved with Skinner, things changed entirely for her—compared to every other man she’d ever known (all of them chaotic messes, such as Krusty or, even Sideshow Bob) he was just…normal (well, normal *enough*, at least)
Most people complain that Skinner is just some boring stick in the mud with no personality, and nothing going for him (despite him being in a, albeit minor, position of power)
But Laurel likes that—She likes that he is predictable. That she doesn’t have to worry about him coming home drunk and high—or that he’ll have explosive fits of anger—or that he’ll just outright abandon her for the horizon.
Skinner takes care of her. He takes good care of her—and for once in *his* life the person he’s taking care of is actually appreciative of it!

001 The Simpsons!
Favorite character: Of course it’s Lisa Simpson. 🤣 When I first started watching The Simpsons, I was really intrigued by her character, and she grew to be my favorite character ever!
Least Favorite character: It would have to be Elizabeth Hoover. Lisa’s teacher at Springfield Elementary School. I just never liked the woman, at least with Edna Krabappel, who seemed like she didn’t like Bart. The thing was, she did actually care about her students and Bart, unlike Miss Hoover, who really doesn’t give a rat’s ass about any of them and has actually bullied an 8-year-old just because she felt like Lisa was a show-off. (Granted, Lisa can be a little full of herself at times, but she’s just a kid, and Miss Hoover is an adult who has personal issues and is taking them out on a little girl.) (Hehehe, I really info dump when it comes to a character I don’t like lol.)
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Lisa and Jessica are my OTP forever and ever! And I could go on all day about why I love them, but then I wouldn’t be able to talk about any other ship lol. I like to ship Lisa with the twin weasels ( I affectionately call them this and like to think Lisa does too 😂), Sherri, and Terri Mackleberry in a polycule V-type relationship (no incest), with Lisa as the hinge. (It probably goes without saying that I also ship the twins’ separately with Lisa too, and it’s usually Sherri. 😆) third pairing (yes, we are counting the twins’ as just the second ship, okay? They’re a unit right now, so I can say more ships,😂) would be Lisa and Allison. I love to think that if they had stayed very close friends, it would have turned into a friends-to-lovers situation, and I just think their relationship would be very cute and sweet, and they would grow old together. And my fourth pair I fancy is Lisa Simpson and Francine Rhenquist... You all are probably noticing a pattern... And you’re right because I have a thing—a thing for shipping Lisa with bullies... I just think she can be a bully whisperer and tamer, okay?! 🤣 And now, last but not least, my final and fifth pairing is Allison Taylor and Hubert Wong. I just think these two are too cute for each other! And they are just two cute little nerds in love. (Shout out to my sister @twisting-echo for getting me into shipping these two nerds).
Character I find most attractive: Groundskeeper Willie hands down! Have you seen that man without his shirt on? Absolutely beautiful~
Character(s) I would marry: Kang and Kodos, two one-eyed aliens, just for little ol’ me lol. 🤣💕💕💕
Character I would be best friends with: Professor Frink. I always loved his character and his zany antics.
A random thought: I once had a random thought about making a fic where it would be an AU where everyone had animal-like features, and I had wanted the whole Simpsons’ family to be cats. 😅🤣
An unpopular opinion: Oh, boy, here it goes... My unpopular opinion is that I really haven’t liked how they have written Marge in the newer seasons of The Simpsons. Just some of the storylines they do for her feel like they’ve done it a thousand times before, and it’s gotten old. And I have never liked how they have made it so that Homer has no problems bonding with his daughters, especially Lisa, but nothing with Bart. The same goes for Marge. I never like how in some episodes she can’t bond with her daughter, but honestly, it’s the writing overall because they always make either Lisa an asshole to her own mother or Marge is the asshole. Just why can’t they have cute bonding episodes for the whole family like what I’ve seen in Bob’s Burgers? 😭
My canon OTP: I wouldn’t say OTP, but I had always thought Comic Book Guy and Kumiko’s relationship was surprisingly cute and sweet.
Non-canon OTP: This wouldn’t be me if I didn’t say it was Lisa and Jessica, now would it? Yessss, they’re my little babies! This ship is very dear to me; it’s been my OTP for years. 🤣💕💕💕
Most badass character: Gina Vendetti. I love her and think she’s a little badass. I also love to ship her with Bart. She’s his scary Amazon girlfriend who terrifies everyone around her lol.
Pairing I am not a fan of: Milhouse and Lisa; just no, I have never thought they worked well together ever! It's just sad to see him pine for someone who does not like him at all. Seriously, it was a running joke that Lisa settled for him, and that’s just sad. Millhouse deserves someone who actually cares and will love him, and Lisa needs to be with someone she’s not settling with because it’s all she’s ever known, and she knows he won’t leave her because he loves her too much and it’s just not healthy or fair to either one of them. (I love my girl, but she has to let him go so he can move on).
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): I have never liked the slow decent at which they have taken Lisa’s character in how the show writes her. Back when the show first came out, she was intelligent, kind, and passionate about the planet and all living things. Mind you, she is still very intelligent, but they have taken some parts of her personality and turned it up to an 180. She is flawed, which is why I love her, but over the years, they have made her more of a snotty brat at times who throws her intelligence in people’s faces, and it doesn’t seem like she’s that kind anymore, and most of what she rebels against feels performative and hollow now. She could always be somewhat intolerant of opinions that differed from her own, often refusing to consider alternative perspectives and showing a feeling of self-righteousness. But it feels like that’s how she is all the time now, and I just haven’t been a big fan of what her character has become.
Favourite friendship: Now I’m going to completely talk about a “fanon” friendship since The Simpsons didn’t give me it in the canon of the show. I mean, sure, I could talk about Millhouse and Bart’s friendship, but sadly, while I like it, it is not my favorite, and the truth is, sometimes they abused each other more than they were good friends with each other lol. 😂😅 No, I’m going to talk about a friendship between Lisa Simpson, Allison Taylor, and Hubert Wong. I always thought it would have been nice for Lisa to at least have someone who was her friend in the show, someone she could bond with, just like Bart with Millhouse. But no, they have always made her a loner just for the sake of writing that not a lot of people like her in Springfield (poor baby, 😭) and they wasted the potential of Lisa and Allison’s friendship. In the show, they always show Lisa as a miserable adult who’s so bitter about everything. I like to think she would have grown up a little differently if she had at least one consistent friend (not Janey; Janey was just as bad as the twins’ with the way they bullied Lisa). And honestly, it would have been nice to see her hang out with two other people who shared similar interests as she did, and it just would have been cute. I definitely have more things to say about their friendship, my sister and I have made up in fanon over the years, but that’s definitely for a different post lol.
I’m so sorry that this is soooo long. 😂 Once you get me started on the Simpsons, I can’t stop rambling like a mad woman about it. 🤣 Thank you so much for this ask. This was so much fun to write out.

I suppose you could say they're a... Match made in hell........ (Design from Treehouse of Horror XXV, s26 ep4)
(Over-analysis of ChalmSkinn under the cut.)
Disclaimer: I know I'm overanalyzing silly gags and concepts from a silly animated sitcom that in its current state has what one could only describe as a rough approximation of continuity (and that the spooky anthology episodes in it are non-canon). Just let me exercise some media literacy for a bit.

Okay so like... What is it with Skinner, Chalmers, and being a two-headed creature? What is that meant to represent?? Once is a gag made in humor and twice is a little eyebrow raising, I think.
And it's not like they're using this as a gag because they have a kind of antagonistic relationship and it'd make for easy bickering jokes, it's actually the opposite! These representations of them with a shared body happen as a representation of them getting along!
ChalmSkinn Productions is their own production company that they originally used to submit films to the Sundance festival, and that episode was one where they got along the most, by far, as the two had a shared goal in being successful in the film industry.

(please ignore the video play bar at the bottom, thank you)
Now, the logo for the company when it got introduced as a concept was very different, it was a globe where Skinner and Chalmers' heads would spin on its surface (though, one could argue it's still their two heads attached to one thing which is roughly a similar idea to the shared body thing), but the association still applies. The company is the result of their two heads joining in an amicable way.
Demon ChalmSkinn (that's what I'm gonna call them) on the other hand is extremely fascinating to try and deconstruct into something of thematic implication.
They are... Technically not Skinner and Chalmers themselves? But they are a parallel version of them in this hell school dimension that Bart and Lisa discover and it's full of other demons that parallel characters from Springfield Elementary, so Demon ChalmSkinn might as well be Chalmers and Skinner for the purposes of this Treehouse of Horror segment.
And, given the vague idea of what Seymour Skinner and Gary Chalmers' relationship is like, you would expect the writers, when sticking their heads on the same body, to make them bicker, right? Have the Chalmers head yell at the Skinner had for some reason?
... They don't do that! They don't bicker at all! In fact, they are very much in sync in a non-hivemind sort of way, they don't interrupt eachother and they seem like very pleasant dudes in general (well, except for the part with they skinned Bart, that was a little uncool).

It's like... What are the writers trying to say with this, specifically? It almost feels like the fact they get along well is the joke.
You expect them to not get along? Well, they do. Their relationship in the regular world is so bad that it's better in hell.
And that's weird, right? If that's the joke then it sure as hell (heh) doesn't feel like it gets acknowledged as a joke. Why avoid such an opportunity for easy jokes? It clearly has to be some deliberate representation of something about their relationship, right? Why do they get along more when they're conjoined than when they're apart?
Maybe, just maybe this is saying something about the inseparability of Gary and Seymour, that they are unable to truly break apart from eachother and are actually far more miserable for it. No matter how many times Chalmers fires Skinner or plans on firing him or just gets annoyed at him for being a spineless kiss-ass around Gary, there's just no severing them. Perhaps a commentary on the status quo nature of the show.
One of my mutuals also suggested that these two would actually be happier if they were together instead of apart, that being stuck together makes them more whole and pleasant than just the sum of their parts.
Their relationship has been characterized by this great, invisible divide of some sort, where a blurry amalgamation of admiration and desperateness clash with an apathetic no-nonsense attitude. If they could just somehow bridge that divide and come to a deeper understanding of eachother then... they'll be happier for it, and maybe they'll be... Together. And inseparable.
If the episode Road to Cincinnati is of any indication, their relationship seems to be heading for a dynamic shift, almost definitely a positive one. Now that Chalmers finally sees Skinner as more earnest than placating, maybe we'll see a Chalmers and Skinner that will evolve into something more. Something metaphorically resembling that two-headed demon they are in hell.

may 10, '25 - i went to a lucy dacus concert and left as a religious person
okay the title is somewhat of an exaggeration because i'm not *actually* religious but i felt closer to any cosmic power than i've ever felt there. i went to the may 9 lucy dacus concert in dallas and it sincerely blew my mind.
i'm not one to cry at movies, books, concerts, plays, etc. unless i'm extremely hormonal. usually it takes me a couple days to process and then i'll cry. however, when i went to that concert and sat in box M... i felt otherworldly.
i was crying like a baby through most of it. i felt like my heart was floating out of my body like those cartoon ghosts post-mortem. me and my best friend wiping each others tears cause the other was too distracted to notice. having silly conversations about elementary school memories in between sets. screaming my life away to night shift like a mega church attendee when they hear oceans by hillsong united. head and heart connected to each and every one in that big ass opera house.
i grew up in the southern baptist church, i moved to methodism, nowadays i'm agnostic of sorts. i never understood those people who sung louder than the choir at church and read bibles 24/7. now i understand it.
i did a presentation called sacred secular in my parents sunday school class a couple weeks ago and it was all about songs that feel holy and sacred and gospel-like but aren't church songs. rejoice by julien baker was the first song on my list. i feel like it really applies to my current state and this concert. screaming the lyrics to all of lucy's songs and airing my grievances without saying anything. embracing my queer joy, grieving my former loves, embracing my hormonal lesbian self, and tearing up over my issues with self-confidence. "i rejoice and complain" is relatable beyond belief. fuck man. i'm sobbing now.

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
September 13, 2024
Heather Cox Richardson
Sep 14, 2024
After bomb threats today, officials had to evacuate two elementary schools in Springfield, Ohio, and move the students to a different location. They had to close a middle school altogether. This is the second day bomb threats have closed schools and public buildings after MAGA Republicans have spread the lie that Haitian immigrants there have been eating white people's pets. Haitian immigrants, who were welcomed to Springfield by officials eager to revitalize the city and who are there legally, say they are afraid.
Hunter Walker and Josh Kovensky of Talking Points Memo today explained where the lie had come from and how it had spread. More than two months ago, they wrote, Ohio senator J.D. Vance, who is Trump’s vice presidential running mate, began to speak about Springfield at a Senate Banking Committee hearing, trying to tie rising housing prices to immigrants. The next day, at the National Conservatism conference, Vance accused “illegals” of overwhelming the city.
On August 10, about a dozen neo-Nazis of the “Blood Tribe” organization showed up in Springfield, where one of their leaders said the city had been taken over by “degenerate third worlders” and blamed the Jews for the influx of migrants. The neo-Nazis stayed and, on August 27, showed up at a meeting of the city council, where their leader threatened council members. On September 1, another white supremacist group, Patriot Front, held its own “protest to the mass influx of unassimilable Haitian migrants” in the city. Right-wing social media posters pushed the story, usually with “witnesses” to events in the city coming from elsewhere.
In late August, posting in a private Facebook group, a resident said they had heard that Haitian immigrants had butchered a neighbor’s cat for food. Vance reposted that rumor to attack Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, on whom he is trying to hang undocumented immigration although it was Trump who convinced Republicans to kill a strong bipartisan border bill this spring. Springfield police and the city manager told news outlets there was no truth to the rumors.
Nonetheless, on September 10, Vance told his people to “keep the cat memes flowing,” even though—or perhaps because—the rumors were putting people in his own state in danger.
Trump repeated the lie at the presidential debate that night, claiming, “In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs, the people that came in, they’re eating the cats. They’re eating, they’re eating the pets of the people that live there.” Today, President Joe Biden demanded Trump stop his attacks on Haitian-Americans, but Trump doubled down, promising to deport the Haitian immigrants in Springfield if he is elected, although they are here legally.
The widespread ridicule of Trump’s statement has obscured that this attack on Ohio’s immigrants is part of an attempt to regain control of the Senate. Convincing Ohio voters that the immigrants in their midst are subhuman could help Republicans defeat popular Democratic incumbent senator Sherrod Brown, who has held his seat since 2007. Brown and Montana’s Jon Tester, both Democrats in states that supported Trump in 2020, are key to controlling the Senate.
Two Republican super PACs, one of which is linked to Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), have booked more than $82 million of ad space in Ohio between Labor Day and the election and are focusing on immigration.
Taking control of the Senate would enable Republicans not only to block all popular Democratic legislation, as they did with gun reform after the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre, but to continue to establish control of America’s judicial system. So long as their judges are in place to make law from the bench, what the majority of Americans want doesn’t matter.
In 1986, when it was clear that most Americans did not support the policies put in place by the Reagan Republicans, the Reagan appointees at the Justice Department broke tradition to ensure that candidates for judgeships shared their partisanship. Their goal, said the president’s attorney general, Ed Meese, was to “institutionalize the Reagan revolution so it can’t be set aside no matter what happens in future presidential elections.”
That principle held going forward. Federal judgeships depend on Senate confirmation, and when McConnell became Senate minority leader in 2007, he worked to make sure Democrats could not put their own appointees onto the bench. He held up so many of President Barack Obama’s nominees for federal judgeships that in 2013 Senate majority leader Harry Reid (D-NV) prohibited filibusters on certain judicial nominees.
McConnell also made it clear that he would do everything he could to make sure that Democrats could not pass laws, weaponizing the filibuster so that nothing could become law without 60 votes in the Senate.
McConnell became Senate majority leader in 2015 when voters gave Republicans control of the Senate, and when Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died in February 2016, McConnell refused even to hold hearings for President Obama’s nominee for the Supreme Court, Merrick Garland. McConnell’s justification for this unprecedented obstruction was that Obama’s March nomination was too close to an election, but the underlying reason for the 2016 delay was at least in part his recognition that hopes of pushing the Supreme Court to the right, especially on the issue of abortion, were likely to get evangelical voters to the polls.
Trump won in 2016, and Republicans got control of the Senate. In 2017, when Democrats tried to filibuster Trump’s nomination of Neil Gorsuch to fill Scalia’s long-empty seat, then–majority leader McConnell killed the filibuster for Supreme Court nominees. The end of the filibuster for Supreme Court nominees meant that McConnell could push through Trump’s nominees Brett Kavanaugh, with just 50 votes, and Amy Coney Barrett, with just 52 (in late October 2020, with voting for the next president already underway).
Throughout his tenure as Senate majority leader, McConnell made judicial confirmations a top priority, churning through nominations even when the coronavirus pandemic shut everything else down. Right-wing plaintiffs are now seeking out those judges, like Matthew Kacsmaryk of Texas, to decide in their favor. Kacsmaryk challenged the FDA’s approval of the drug mifepristone, which can be used in abortions, thus threatening to ban it nationwide.
Meanwhile, at the Supreme Court, Trump appointees are joining with right-wing justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito to overturn precedents established long ago, including the right to abortion.
Controlling the country through the courts was the plan behind stacking the courts with Republican nominees and weaponizing the filibuster to stop Democrats from passing legislation. In March 2024, in Slate, legal analyst Mark Joseph Stern noted that McConnell “realized you don’t need to win elections to enact Republican policy. You don’t need to change hearts and minds. You don’t need to push ballot initiatives or win over the views of the people. All you have to do is stack the courts. You only need 51 votes in the Senate to stack the courts with far-right partisan activists…[a]nd they will enact Republican policies under the guise of judicial review, policies that could never pass through the democratic process. And those policies will be bulletproof, because they will be called ‘law.’”
When he took office, President Joe Biden went to work putting his own mark on the federal judiciary. Almost two thirds of his appointees are women, and 62% are people of color. He appointed the first Black female justice, Ketanji Brown Jackson, to the Supreme Court. But now, Republicans are hoping to retake the Senate to make sure that those appointments will stop, along with any more legislation. Their right-wing appointees to the courts will take the business of lawmaking out of the hands of American majorities.
Republican leaders are throwing everything they’ve got at the Senate races in Montana and Ohio, where they hope they can pick up the seat they need to take control of the Senate.
Attacks on immigrants in Ohio might move that needle.
In 1890, Republicans faced a similar problem. They had lost the popular vote in 1888, although they installed Republican president Benjamin Harrison in office through the Electoral College, and knew the Democrats would soon far outnumber their own voters. So they set out to guarantee that they could never lose the Senate, which should enable them to kill popular Democratic legislation.
But they misjudged the electorate, and in the 1890 midterm election, voters gave control of the House to the Democrats by a margin of two to one, and control of the Senate came down to a single seat, that of a senator from South Dakota. In those days, state legislatures chose their state’s senators, and shortly after it became clear that control of the Senate was going to depend on that South Dakota seat, U.S. Army troops went to South Dakota to rally voters by putting down an “Indian uprising” in which no people had died and no property had been damaged.
Fueled on false stories of “savages” who were attacking white settlers, the inexperienced soldiers were the ones who pulled the triggers to kill more than 250 Lakotas on December 29, but the Wounded Knee Massacre started in Washington, D.C.

Carla Lassen (The Simpsons Oc)
Carla Judith Lassen is the daughter of Jack Lassen and Jennifer Terwilliger, granddaughter of Judith Underdunk and Dr. Robert Terwilliger, Senior. She’s also the niece of Sideshow Bob and Cecil Terwilliger, and cousin of Gino Terwilliger.
Before she was born, her father Jack Lassen and Jennifer Terwilliger met when they were teenagers at high school and they hit off right away before they left university on their graduation to discover that Jennifer was pregnant and they raised their daughter until her mother left the family when Carla was only 3.
Carla didn’t know her mom’s family until she was 9 when she and her dad goes to Springfield Elementary School due to her dad’s redemption when, really, it just to revenge Bart Simpson for humiliated at Blazing Guy Festival. She was a new student at the school assembly with her hair tied up in a bun before Bart threw a pie at her that was meant to be for Principal Skinner. At first she was humiliated, but then she smiled as everyone laughed which made her feel comfortable until Krusty the Clown asked her who she was and she revealed it all when Krusty noticed that her eyes were similar blue colour like her mom. Everyone discovered that she was the niece of Sideshow Bob but he and the family claimed that they didn’t know Carla’s existence until Jack Lassen explained to them about his relationship with Jennifer before she disappeared.

i have a simpsons fanfic idea where cecil escapes prison seeking revenge on bart and lisa and then escaping town after killing them (hypothetically). fearing being recognized and caught, cecil makes a fake identity for himself, changing his name, occupation and altering his appearance as much as he can (straightening his hair, dying it black, glasses, new clothes etc). he manages to land a job at springfield elementary school as a teacher. one day while trying to enact his plans, he stops at moe's tavern for a drink. he and moe quickly strike up an odd friendship… and later romantic relationship (btw this really happened canonically). but cecil is still wary of being caught by police and being thrown back in jail
there may or may not be redemption too

simpsons oc ask: 2, 14, 27, 32! :]
[Simpsons OC ask game - Accepting!]
2 - Introduce your OC in no more than one sentence (or more, I’m not the police. Don’t tell Chef Wiggum though)
Claryce is a freelance translator and part time school librarian who struggles between her newly found independence, her constant anxiety, her place in the D'Amico family and her undying feelings regarding a certain criminal mastermind! (It's fun how long a sentence can get when you're limited, ehe).
14 – How would you consider your OC’s role in the show? Are they a major character like the Simpson family? Are they more likely to just be seen in the background? Or something in between?
I wouldn't consider her a major character like the Simpson family, but her work as a librarian in the Springfield Elementary school and her friendship/relationship with Bob would make it more likely for her to appear often, even if for a few seconds (at the library, in the teacher's break room, or in a Sideshow Bob centered episode- whenever she'd hang out with him or shelter him in her flat). Oh also, as the nerd she is, she'd probably be seen in the crowd whenever there's a book/comic/video game/movie convention. Or you'd occasionally find her chilling in a corner of Moe's bar, if anything.
27 – Did your OC ever date a character from the show? Are they currently in a relationship? Do they have exes? Her very first and serious date (if she ignores the few flings she had back in France) was with Sideshow Bob! Unfortunately, she ended up learning about his criminal past and decided to gently put an end to their relationship as she couldn't bring herself to date an outlaw. But. But. She never truly moves on and no matter her best attempts to do so, Bob remains the love of her life - her constant denial about her feelings for him is one of her main character traits! She later on dated with Comic Book Guy - it didn't last long but ended on good terms because both figured they liked it more when they were just friends. Then she met Patty during a blind date (another desperate attempt to move on from her feelings for Sideshow Bob) and while it started on very good terms, their respective personalities clashed too much for their relationship to last. She nearly considered Sideshow Mel, but the name alone and his theatrics made her remember too much of her first partner for this to feel healthy for her- and she believes he deserves better, too. Eventually, she'll face the facts and get back with Bob (who turns out he also hadn't moved on from her despite his marriages) - and even if they decide to keep their relationship a secret (to keep the denial gag), it will appear pretty obvious to some characters. :')
32 – Your OC is either in trouble or feeling terrible. Who’s the first person they can rely on for help? It really depends of the situation! Her uncle and the Italian Mob are two stories below her flat, but she's reluctant to their rather... violent methods should someone be bothering her, so she'll mostly ask them for a piece of advice, should she need one. Ironically, she wouldn't hesitate to vent to Sideshow Bob (were he to be at her place and ask her what was going on - because he does notice whenever she's troubled). In a way, she feels like he'd listen if she were to tell him to not to anything for her sake- the guy is already too much in trouble on his own, right...? When her family and most trusted friend/partner can't be of help, she can always go to Moe's to talk with friends, or ask help from her colleagues at school (Edna's down to earth attitude particularly helps her to put things into perspective for situations that seemed catastrophic)- but that rarely happens as she tends to bottle up a lot of her issues...
#miss tic tac replies#the simpsons#simpsons oc#simpsons ocs#claryce whitman#thank you so much for your asks!! ♥♥
