Acela Amtrak train first class Boston south station to New York Penn station. *** These folks were nice, mom was sleeping and her kid is knocked out...teenagers! exclusive! exclusive! for 007 fest 2020! a peek into the now-shuttered exhibit of bond villains at the *spy museum* in washington, dc

the forge - that is i, of @teamofvillains​ - managed to make it to the exhibit 3 days before it closed in december 2018. by then, it had been there for some six years, and garnered worldwide attention. you may have seen my pictures from the bond in motion exhibit at the london film museum. well if a prop wasn’t there, then it was here. 

let’s go inside shall we?

down the stairs we go to the eerie basement lair of bond villains...

while we do that, we get to witness some of james bond’s finest moments...

...until we hit the bottom. very villainous indeed. 

(and no, this is not a reference to bond 25. this exhibit ran from 2012-2018.)

WELCOME TO “EXQUISITELY EVIL”!

we find biographies and trivia about our favorite baddies... and please excuse the photography. the lighting was very dim and the glass surfaces didn’t help!

moving on to the actual items from the film sets--

scaramanga’s gun and jacket from the man with the golden gun

a terrifying and lifelike shark tank on either side of this walkway, so we can experience license to kill

SPOILER ALERT

the autopsy report for yusef, vesper’s boyfriend. we don’t see this meticulous document in quantum of solace, but it is gruesome and left me shaken. 

because james bond did that.

spectre costumes! sciarra and oberhauser. 

the transcript of bond and moneypenny’s conversation that max denbigh aka c plays back for m in spectre. we don’t see the document in the movie, so this is a bonus. 

the ring bond used to propose to gave q in altausee, austria in spectre

the spectre dental chair. looks mighty comfortable. 

of course the “villainous women” just get a tiny mention in a dark corner where most people will miss it anyway >.> ffs

and of course no bond exhibit is complete without the aston martin db5.

toward the end there is a nod to ian fleming with some of his personal items.

for me personally, this was the only thing worth going to the spy museum for. remember that it is NOT one of the world class smithsonian museums where there is a sense of truth-seeking. the spy museum is fun, sure, but it’s very very propaganda heavy. the staff works closely with former CIA spies to hold book signing events and lectures and stuff. the museum also has an area showcasing torture devices - including american tactics in black sites and gitmo - with descriptions that ~ vaguely suggest controversy ~ as if it’s not something that is literally against international law. 

the spy museum has since moved to a much bigger building so i cannot speak for how it looks *now* as things may have changed. and to be clear: the bond exhibit is most definitely closed.

Today reminds me of when we were at the jaw dropping rooftop at @spymuseumprivateevents. Clear skies and captivating views. ⁣ ⁣ What I love about Spy is that I had the chance to see this building being built from the ground up. I remember wearing my hard hat to see all of the unique spaces that were coming to life. ⁣ ⁣ I was privy to see many of the exhibits be placed into this captivating venue. This was a huge step for the team at Spy coming from there 7th Street location, but certainly not something beyond their capabilities. ⁣ ⁣ When you fall in love with a venue like I have with Spy, you miss being able to host cocktail parties on the rooftop like we should be doing now. J’ai oublié ! Il y a quelques temps je suis allée au Musée de l’espionage de Berlin, fort intéressant parce qu’il y avait pleins d’objets concrets à voir et des activités pour faire comme les espions 😊 C’était surtout l’occasion de rencontrer d’autres étudiants et de continuer à élargir mon cercle de connaissances ;)
