“Do you think you can know something before it happens?” (Alex Lawther as “Elliot”) “Departure” (2015)
“Departure” (2015): a sensitively filmed and multi-layered Bildungsroman, or coming of age narrative, directed by Andrew Steggall, set against a stunning backdrop of rural Languedoc in autumn, follows the burgeoning and often stormy relationship between “Elliot” (played by Alex Lawther), and “Clément” (Phénix Brossard).
The movie also features some wonderful music, including a performance of “Rusalka's Song to the Moon”, by Dvorak.

good morning auspol, today is the one (1) day dedicated to celebrating a good outcome in the election, and then we can all go back to despising all politicians and politics.
(mandatory translation for the world wide web: the liberal party is our allegedly centre right party - fiscal liberalism, not social. the liberal party have a formal permanent coalition with the national party - more right wing, rural/country focused. the labor party is centre left party. greens are our proper left wing party.)
here are some things i am celebrating.
warringah says get rekt terfs: the liberal party's TERF candidate was so thoroughly rejected by the electorate with a 6.6% swing against the libs that every other party increased its vote percentage. the incumbent who retained the seat is independent zali steggall, a former gold medal winning olympian who supports trans women in sports. the liberal mouthpieces last night were quick to blame deves for infecting other lib candidates by association, and if that's true, that's beautiful.
one nation actually lost votes: their overall vote increased, which is disheartening, but as antony green was quick to point out last night that is because they're running in far more seats than last election. in the seats where they ran last election they are (i think) entirely down between 5 and 10%.
queensland turning green: it was predicted and then mostly forgotten at the last election that they might pick up one or two, but that they might pick up four seats is just. aslkdfjhsa. i've lived in ryan and next door to griffith, i grew up in queensland and my family still live there, and i'm just flabbergasted. sometimes you can't believe something until you see it. qld is often referred to as the texas of australia, and anyone who actually pays a bit of attention to US politics at a state level knows texas is incredibly purple, so the comparison is more apt than most australians have ever really understood. yes they're inner brisbane seats, but the factors you might point to - students living around uq and griffith* are both captured in these seats, interstate migration to south east qld is higher than ever - have always been true in these areas. the number one issue of concern coming out of these seats (coming out of nearly every seat!) is climate change, and brisbane has been flooded multiple times in the last three years. it's literally that simple. griffith as an example had a 11.3% swing away from the libs, but none of that went to labor who has a 2.5% swing away from them too. the greens picked up 12.8% of that 13.8% swing.
which brings me to the big one.
the entire country has shifted to the left: both the lnp and labor lost votes. qld obviously had a massive swing from liberal to green, which blows my mind, but the greens picked up votes everywhere. at the same time we have the the shift to independents in key liberal seats, with candidates running as true centrists. it is a real rejection of the lnp's co-opting of US right-wing issues. the nationals are whatever, but the liberal party has abandoned its centrism entirely, and people don't want a bar of it. i don't think people saw the forest for the trees three years ago, but it really feels like the pandemic has woken this country up to its political landscape, and people have found it seriously fucking lacking. at least for today, before anyone has a chance to fuck shit up, i feel a little bit hopeful for the first time in 9+ years.

Blatantly Partisan Party Review XL (federal 2022): The “Teal” Independents
Running where: 6 out of 8 states and territories—not NT or QLD. Most are in specific lower house seats; see full list below.
Prior reviews: None, this is not a party
(This entry is a bit long. The first section covers the rise of the indies this past decade and what they stand for. If you are primarily interested in whether a teal is standing in your seat and a recommendation if so, scroll down to the candidate list and recommendation sections.)
Australia has seen a resurgence in independent politics the past decade. In 2010, the only indies in the House of Representatives were men who had been first elected to public office as Nationals MPs and since left the party. At that year’s election, Andrew Wilkie ran a successful independent campaign for the Division of Denison (now Clark): in a remarkable four-cornered contest, he came third on first preferences and won after the distribution of preferences. Next, in 2013, Cathy McGowan ran an impressive local campaign to unseat Sophie Mirabella, a terminally unpopular Liberal who had steadily turned one of the safest seats in the country into a loss. As a friend with relatives in Indi quipped to me, “every time Mirabella met a voter, she lost a vote”. McGowan in 2019 then successfully handed over to another local indie, Helen Haines, the current Member for Indi, while Zali Steggall defeated Tony Abbott in Warringah. Kerryn Phelps also briefly held Wentworth after winning as an independent at a 2018 by-election but she narrowly lost to Dave Sharma in 2019.
This election, independent campaigns have been especially well organised, receiving significant funds from clean energy activist Simon Holmes à Court’s organisation Climate 200. There are plenty of indies not funded by Climate 200, including a couple of competitive ones (e.g. Dai Le in Fowler, Rob Priestly in Nicholls), but by and large the indies getting attention are those with Climate 200 backing. These indies have become known as the “teal indies” for the colour many use in their branding or as the “climate indies” for their policy focus. Holmes à Court had formerly participated in Liberal Party fundraising activities for Josh Frydenberg, but was expelled after writing an opinion piece in support of closing the Liddell coal-fired power station. He promptly began supporting independent and minor-party candidates with more progressive climate agendas than Liberal MPs.
Because this is not a party as such, the teal indies are a diverse bunch. Some are running on distinctively local issues, and if you are in one of their electorates you probably know them and the issues much better than I do. I would largely define the teals as centre to centre-right. A few clearly lean left (e.g. David Pocock, Kim Rubenstein) while some belong to a lost generation of Liberals: professional women who two decades ago would have been moderate Liberal candidates, but who have been put off by the party’s notorious sexism problems and its inability or refusal to act on climate ()e.g. Allegra Spender, Sophie Scamps, Kate Chaney).
Three issues unite the teals. They want much stronger action on climate change, guided by scientific advice. They want integrity in politics—you can read this as a federal ICAC. And, as implied by the end of the last paragraph, they want gender equity. The specifics of exactly what sort of policies they support on climate, integrity, and gender vary between candidates and each campaign has been resolutely focused on their electorate’s expectations—and on tying incumbent Liberals to Scott Morrison and Barnaby Joyce, no matter how nice and moderate the local incumbent might be.
Climate 200 has contributed to twenty campaigns this election. Four are candidates from parties I have reviewed: Leanne Minshull of The Local Party (TAS Senate), David Pocock of his eponymous party (ACT Senate), Rebekah Sharkie of the Centre Alliance (Mayo), and Kim Rubenstein of Kim for Canberra (ACT Senate). Of those four, only Sharkie is the incumbent; the other three are challenging for Senate seats. Three more people in receipt of Climate 200 support are incumbent independents who are likely to be re-elected: Helen Haines (Indi), Zali Steggall (Warringah), and Andrew Wilkie (Clark).
The remaining thirteen are independents challenging sitting members for a seat in the House of Representatives. They are varying degrees of competitive. I think Zoe Daniel should win Goldstein over toxic cesspit of a person Tim Wilson, and Monique Ryan (Kooyong), Allegra Spender (Wentworth), and Kylea Tink (North Sydney) are all in strong positions too. I would suggest 2–3 of those four will unseat the incumbent. I am also tipping one other indie, not necessarily a teal, to unseat an incumbent somewhere in the country. There is buzz around Kate Chaney here in the west for Curtin, although I’m not yet persuaded it’s enough to get her over the line. I suspect David Pocock is going to fall just a few percent short of defeating Zed Seselja for the second ACT Senate seat.
The following are the candidates to whom Climate 200 has contributed funds. They are alphabetised by seat contested, which is named in brackets. In square brackets is party affiliation, if they have one. Italicised candidates are sitting incumbents.
ACT: David Pocock (Senate) [eponymous party]; Kim Rubenstein (Senate) [Kim for Canberra]
NSW: Nicolette Boele (Bradfield), Kate Hook (Calare), Caz Heise (Cowper), Georgia Steele (Hughes), Kylea Tink (North Sydney), Hanabeth Luke (Page), Zali Steggall (Warringah), Allegra Spender (Wentworth)
SA: Jo Dyer (Boothby), Rebekah Sharkie (Mayo) [Centre Alliance]
TAS: Andrew Wilkie (Clark), Leanne Minshull (Senate) [Local Party]
VIC: Claire Ferres Miles (Casey), Despi O’Connor (Flinders), Zoe Daniel (Goldstein), Helen Haines (Indi), Monique Ryan (Kooyong), Alex Dyson (Wannon)
WA: Kate Chaney (Curtin)
My recommendation: In all instances I recommend you preference a teal above a Liberal or National candidate and the various far-right crackpots (this favourable recommendation applies to Rob Priestly and Dai Le too). Just how strong a preference you give them will vary based on individual, but it will be generally a decent or good one—especially given how many dire candidates are on some ballots.
I want to go into more detail than I usually do in giving a recommendation, as there are strategic considerations to make in some cases. If your priority is unseating the sitting Liberal, you should ponder who is likely to end up second and third as preferences are distributed. If there are three candidates left in the count and none has 50% (or, in the Senate, none has reached a quota), the third one will be eliminated. and their preferences will decide which of the remaining two wins the seat. Where will their preferences go? If the third candidate is Labor or Green, the easy majority of their preferences will flow to the teal and might get them over the line if the margin is close enough. If the third candidate is a teal, however, some of their voters will likely break back to the Liberals to give the Lib the win ahead of Labor or the Greens.
This means that if your main goal is defeating a Liberal and the count is likely to end up a three-way contest between the Liberal, a teal, and a party candidate you might otherwise vote for, consider your vote very carefully. In such a situation, if you decide that Labor or Green (or another desirable candidate) is likely to finish in the top three but cannot defeat the incumbent Liberal on preferences, while the teal is also likely to finish in the top three and could defeat the incumbent Liberal on preferences, then you might wish to give the teal a better preference than Labor/Green/other-desirable-party. I do not normally recommend tactical voting, and our system is designed to avoid it, but in this case it’s relevant.

Allegra Spender wants you with her in the Parade!
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/allegra-spender-wants-you-with-her-in-the-parade/
Allegra Spender wants you with her in the Parade!
Tumblr media
Wentworth federal Independent MP Allegra Spender will be marching in this year’s Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade and is asking for LGBTQIA+ constituents from her Sydney Eastern Suburbs electorate to join in.
This year, Allegra will be taking part in the Parade as part of the Independents for Inclusion marching group that is celebrating diversity across the electorates of Sydney’s four federal Independent MPs.
Marching with her will be North Sydney MP Kylea Tink, Warringah MP Zali Steggall and Mackeller MP Dr Sophie Scamps.
“It’s truly an honour to once again march alongside fellow independents Zali Steggall, Kylea Tink, and Dr Sophie Scamps at the Sydney Mardi Gras parade, standing shoulder to shoulder in solidarity with our LGBTQI+ community,” Allegra said, ahead of the parade.
“Growing up in Sydney, I have enjoyed watching the Mardi Gras and evolve from a protest march to a global symbol of LGBTQI+ pride and solidarity. It is an incredible opportunity to honour the work of those who have fought for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community and continue their work and stand up for LGBTQIA+ rights.
“Last year, marching alongside other independents and community groups at Mardi Gras was a deeply moving experience. The energy, joy, and sense of unity were palpable as we celebrated alongside diverse members of the LGBTQI+ community. Standing alongside the ’78ers, who bravely paved the way for LGBTQI+ rights in Australia, was a poignant reminder of the progress we have made and the work that still lies ahead.
“Attending Mardi Gras for me is about actively participating in the celebration of love, diversity, and acceptance. It’s about amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and continuing to advocate for policies that promote equality and inclusion for all.
“Sydney is proud, and we want you to join the ‘Independents for Inclusion’ to celebrate! If you’re part of Wentworth’s LGBTQIA+ community, please fill out my form to come along!”
With the slogan for this year’s Mardi Gras being “Our Future”, the Independents marching group has chosen the theme of “Powered by People” in the spirit of community independents and the vibrant communities they represent.
Team Allegra is looking for 4-5 Wentworth members of the LGBTQIA+ community who are interested in joining this joyful procession, alongside Independent MPs and community members from those other electorates.
Participants in this year’s float will be required to walk for the entire parade, as there will be no float vehicle and volunteers may be required to attend a briefing/rehearsal in advance of the event.

Combinazioni 'originali'
On the Numbers of Patterns Which Can Be Derived from Certain Elements.

A City of Bells
Chapter IX — Part III
“And now,” said the Bishop, when the boys could eat no more, “I’m afraid we must go to evensong.”
This was not the end of the party but only an interruption to it, and it was not even necessary to go out of doors, for a covered way led from the Palace to the Cloisters and the Cloisters led directly into the Cathedral.
A silence fell upon them all as they entered the Cloisters, for the Cloisters always imposed silence. They were built round three sides of a square, the fourth side being occupied by the Cathedral itself, and in the square the dead were buried; those very same bishops whose pictured faces had smiled and frowned upon the Christmas party, together with deans and canons whose names on the headstones had been washed out by wind and rain. It was bright moonlight now, with a blaze of stars, and the headstones showed up black and sharp against the snow. The feet of the living clanked harshly as they passed and all unconsciously they tried to go on tiptoe. Mr. Phillips, the organist, had gone on ahead with Peppercue and Barleycorn so that when the others came into the Cathedral the candles were already flowering in the darkness and the organ playing softly.
They began with a hymn, “Once in royal David’s city,” after which evensong pursued its accustomed course until they got to the anthem, and it was here that Felicity and Jocelyn, who had never before attended evensong on the party day, had a shock, for it was Steggall’s anthem, “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth.”
It was always sung on the party day and Grandfather considered it a most depressing choice, and had said so more than once at Chapter meetings, but was not listened to because what always had been done at Torminster always was done, suitable or not, and would be till the Day of Judgment, but Felicity and Jocelyn were not concerned with its suitability so much as with its beauty.
Felicity had always considered the twelfth chapter of Ecclesiastes the most haunting poem ever written. She found in it the same beauty, tinged with a feeling of eeriness, that years later she was to find in the poetry of Mr. Walter de la Mare. “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; while the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain.” A boy’s clear treble rang out in the great Cathedral, where the candlelight fitfully shone on shadowed faces and carved stone and wood dark with age, while above them the pillars soared into darkness and all around them the night pressed in. A strange mutter of voices, quiet but very ominous, took up the next verse. “In the days when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows shall be darkened.”This lament for the fate of man, for the passing of his youth and joy and the coming of old age and death, was very queer and frightening, all the more so because one was not quite certain what it was all about. “Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher, all is vanity … The mourners go about the streets … The wheel broken at the cistern.” Was that the end of the matter? “The spirit shall return unto God Who gave it.” In that word “return” Felicity suddenly found comfort. The fate of man in this world was certainly a thing to be lamented over, a thing of uncertainty and loss and pain, and no amount of easy optimism could alter the facts of the case, yet in death he “returned” to his starting point of sun and moon and stars that are not darkened. Her mind wandering, she thought that the writer of this poem, when he chose sun and moon and stars as the supreme givers of joy, must have felt as Ferranti had done that man can best understand the meaning of perfection when he takes as its symbol a circle of white light. They were very akin, Ferranti and this writer whose name she did not know … Suddenly she started and touched Jocelyn’s arm as he sat beside her. The mist of sorrow that was in his eyes cleared away as he looked at her and whispered the thought that was in both their minds. “The answer … Our play must be presented as a great lament.”
The anthem ended and they knelt down to pray, their lowered eyelids shutting out even the faint candlelight so that each of them was alone in darkness. To Jocelyn, even more deeply depressed than Felicity because depression came more naturally to him, it seemed that the darkness of human life was too great to be endured. The words of the prayers flowed on unheard by him as he sank deeper and deeper into desolation. It seemed that he had touched rock-bottom when Felicity, wise through that knowledge of his thoughts that had come to her through love, put out a hand and gently touched his side. Instantly his spirits rose a little and opening his eyes he saw the candlelight. So often in his experience the minor miseries of life had been eased by the touch of humanity; would the great miseries, when they came, be eased by God’s touch? One would have to be old to know and the old, he had noticed, and not the young, Were more often the men of faith.
They sang a last hymn and filed silently out of the dark Cathedral and through the moonlit Cloisters. Safely back in the Palace any eerie feelings that might remain were dispelled by Mrs. Phillips. “How those boys can sing like that after all that tea,” she said, “beats me.”

If you are looking for a Commercial Solar Northern Beaches you may be wondering where to find the best installers. There are many solar panel installation companies in Sydney, so it's important to know your options. Luckily, there are resources available to help you make the right choice. These resources can help you find a local company that meets your needs and your budget.
Commercial solar panel installation in Sydney
If you are looking for a solar power installation for your Sydney Northern Beaches business, you have come to the right place. A quality installation will not cost you a fortune, but you must make sure you get the best deal. You must pay attention to details, and you must be able to compare quotes from a few solar installers. The best place to get quotes is from a solar panel broker like Solar Choice, which has a
network of over 200 pre-vetted solar power installers across Australia. They will provide you with a free quote from up to seven pre-vetted solar power installers in your area. You can choose one that has a high level of expertise in the industry and a history of excellent service.
Solar Choice is another company that can provide you with free quote comparisons for your Sydney Northern Beaches business. The head office of Solar Choice is in Manly, and their website has a quote comparison tool. This tool will help you determine the size of your system and the STCs you will receive. Then, you can use the calculator to see how many STCs your system will earn over time. For example, a 5kW solar panel installation would generate 76 STCs over the course of eleven years, which equates to $3736 in savings off the up-front cost of your system.
The optimal angle for solar panel installation in Sydney is 34 deg from the horizontal, facing northward. This angle will ensure the best total production throughout the year. Depending on your electricity usage, you may need to change this angle slightly.
Commercial Solar Sydney
Commercial Solar Northern Beaches offers cost-effective solar power solutions for businesses. The cost of installing a commercial solar system is much less than the average cost of electricity from the grid. In the Northern Beaches, a five-kilowatt solar panel system can pay for itself in three to five years. A system of this size will save the average Australian household $1138 per year on its energy bills.
Commercial Solar Northern Beaches has an established partnership with the 4 Pines Brewing Company and will launch its project at Truck Bar on 28 February. The event will feature a special guest appearance by local MPs Zali Steggall and Michael Regan. MP Rob Stokes will also send a video message to show his support for the project.
A residential solar panel installation in Sydney should be performed by a qualified, experienced solar panel installation company. For best results, the solar panels should be positioned to capture maximum light from the sun. The optimal angle is 34 degrees off the ground. This angle will help them produce the most electricity throughout the year. However, this angle can be adjusted according to usage patterns.
Choosing the right size system is an important part of the installation process. A 6.6kW solar panel installation will cost between $5200 and $9000, depending on the quality of solar panels and installation company. The right installer can help you choose the most effective system for your needs and budget.
Commercial Solar Wetherill Park
Commercial Solar Wetherill Park is an excellent way to reduce your electricity bill by as much as 50%. While it's not feasible for every property to have a solar array, it is possible to reduce your costs and make your home greener with a solar power system. These systems are easy to install and can be very affordable.
Solar Choice is a solar broker that operates in Manly, NSW. Their team has helped over 105,000 Australians go solar and has experience in all types of solar installations, including commercial ones. They can provide free quotes for a variety of solar systems and will help you choose the one that's right for your property.

Mike Beard Lists North Curl Curl House for $5.5 Million
Mike Baird, the former premier of New South Wales, has been doing a lot of whale watching since he resigned from the top position in the state in early 2017, after he timed his exit from politics by buying a house on top of the clifftop in North Curl’s clifftop. But neighbors can expect to see a bit of Bird’s ocean-viewing from his north-facing balcony in the future, after he and wife Keren listed the family home on Thursday. Mike and Crane Bird listed their home on the North Curl Curl.attributed to him: The couple is said to be shrinking now that their three children have finished school, handing the list to Cherie Humel of Clarke & Humel and James Aiden, who sold it to them. Baird bought the five-bedroom home with a pool, spa, and detached self-contained condo in early 2017 for $3.6 million, no doubt funded in part by his new job at the time as head of customer division at NAB. A clue worth $5.5 million was set before the November 5 auction. Former New South Wales Prime Minister Mike Baird is now President of HammondCare.attributed to him:Natalie Pogue Bird resigned from NAB two years ago, and despite being billed as a perfect liberal candidate to contest the Warringah seat, which is held by independent Zali Steggall, he has moved into the aged care sector as CEO of HammondCare. Joseph Healy, co-founder and CEO of Godot Bank, along with former senior NAB executives are still profiting from the family home amid a broad market downturn. McGrath’s Glenn Curran has a guide of $11 million to $12 million for a six-bedroom, six-bathroom home of approximately 2,000 square feet with a tennis court and pool. [ad_1] Former British politician Nigel Farage has urged conservative Australians to get “better, stronger” political leaders and be a part of a “convulsive” political change the world over. The former chief of the UK Independence Party and Brexit Party was greeted to a cheers and cahoots on the Conservative Political Action Conference in Sydney on Saturday.Mr Farage was billed as one of many main audio system, alongside former prime minister Tony Abbott. In a whirlwind speech he warned Australians about changing the “magic” of a constitutional monarchy with a “dreary republic”.“I’ve seen the values that the Queen represented being discussed again. Christianity is being discussed again,” Mr Farage mentioned.“What Australians are saying to me this week is: We want Australia back.’”Boos erupted from the gang after Mr Farage made a quick point out to former Liberal prime minister Malcolm Turnbull. He additionally bragged “getting rid” of former UK prime minister Theresa May was certainly one of his “proudest achievements”.A video of Mr Farage interacting with a protester was briefly performed, with the activist chanting “bigots are not welcome here”.Mr Farage is heard saying he wants assist earlier than leaving the dialog. At the conclusion of his speech, Mr Farage mentioned a “huge, convulsive” political change was coming the world over.“Determine that you will become a foot soldier in this movement. Use your power of communication,” he advised the gang.“When it comes to the next election vote for people who will take a moral stand. This Is Why People Are Voting One Nation
