Bucky walked into his Manhattan office, rubbing a hand over his tired face. Last night had left him on edge—Ethan had been all over his girl, and the worst part? She didn’t even notice. It gnawed at him, the way Ethan spoke to her, the way he looked at her.
The glow of his laptop screen cast sharp shadows over his face as he clicked through the Hydra files he and Sam had dug up. His next press conference was later today, and he needed to be ready. He had to keep the momentum going, to keep the world watching, and lucky for him, Sam and Joaquin had found even more intel for him to go through. As the files popped up on the screen, Bucky held his breath, apprehending some serious damage.
It was video signals, closed circuit televison transmisons from the base in Russia. They had been monitoring you. The video was grainy and fuzzy but Bucky could recognise your face anywhere; and his heart dropped when he saw what they were doing. He spend through the footage, his heart pounding against his ribcage. You hadn’t spoken to him about what had happened to you while you were held in captivity, and now Bucky was about to find out.
For hours at a time you were kept in isolation, deprived of food and water. Then, periodically, soldiers and men in white lab coats would come in. He watched you getting tortured, his blood running cold, and be injected with— what was that? Bucky zoomed in on the video footage but again, it was so unclear what they were putting in you. Unable to watch anymore, Bucky slammed the lid to his laptop shut, his fist balled and his fingernails pressing crescents into his skin.
Then, a voice rippled through the room, cutting the tension like a knife.
"Oh, good. You’re here."
Bucky turned toward the doorway, his jaw clenching as he saw Ethan leaning against the frame, as smug as ever.
As Ethan sauntered into his office, Bucky’s irritation turned into something sharper.
"You lost?" Bucky asked, sliding out of his chair and approaching Ethan. Ethan walked past Bucky and leaned against the mahogany wood desk, suspiciously close to Bucky’s laptop and all of the intel. Bucky closed the door behind Ethan with a deliberate click.
Ethan turned, all smooth confidence and charm, a smirk tugging at his lips. "Not at all. I was actually hoping to see your girl,” Ethan looked around the empty office, his eyebrows quirked. “Nice photo.” He acknowledged, picking up the framed picture of you that Bucky kept on his desk.
Bucky’s jaw ticked. His fingers curled against the edge of the desk, the metal plates in his vibranium arm shifting with a quiet whirr.
"You got business with her, you go through me."
Ethan tilted his head. "That so?" He took a slow step closer, clearly unbothered by the shift in Bucky’s stance. "I wasn’t aware she needed a bodyguard."
"She doesn’t," Bucky bit out. "But I don’t like people sniffing around where they don’t belong."
Ethan let out a short laugh, shaking his head. "You got all that serum pumping through your veins and you think I’m a threat? I’m no more than a mere politician,” He stepped even closer, and for the first time, there was something calculating in his eyes. "You know, Barnes, most people are afraid of you. They see you and think of the assassin. The Winter Soldier."
Bucky’s fingers flexed, the vibranium plates shifting again. "You got a point, or are you just wasting my time?"
Ethan smiled, but it wasn’t friendly. "I’m saying… I’m not afraid of you." He let the words hang in the air before continuing, tone almost taunting. "And I think that bothers you. That I don’t look at you the way the rest of the world does."
Bucky’s expression darkened. "No, what bothers me is that you’re standing here, acting like you belong."
A silence filled the room before Ethan let out a chuckle.
"Relax, Barnes." Ethan smirked, adjusting the cuffs of his expensive suit. “I just came because I wanted to follow up on last night. Your girl’s got real potential. People in the political space are starting to take notice of her. She’s smart, well-spoken, and ambitious—exactly the kind of fresh face the country could use. So, I thought I’d offer her some guidance."
Bucky scoffed, pushing himself off his chair, standing taller. "Guidance? That what we’re calling it now?" His voice was low, dangerous.
Ethan’s smirk didn’t waver. "It’s not personal, Barnes. It’s business. She’s going places, whether you like it or not."
Bucky took a step forward, closing the distance between them. "Yeah? And where exactly do you think you're taking her?"
Ethan met his stare head-on. "Somewhere bigger than just being ‘Bucky Barnes’ girlfriend.’"
Bucky’s jaw flexed. He had fought wars, taken down Hydra, survived things no man should—yet this? This smug, power-hungry politician thought he could take her from him?
He let out a dark chuckle. "You think you’re smart, don’t you?"
"I know I am," Ethan said smoothly. "And I know you see it too. You might have the brawn but I have the brain. She could be something bigger. Something more. She deserves it. Doesn’t she?"
Bucky’s nostrils flared, but he didn’t take the bait. Instead, he smiled—a slow, calculated grin that didn’t reach his eyes.
"She deserves everything," Bucky agreed, his voice steel. "But don’t get it twisted, Ethan. She’s not some pawn in your little power play."
Ethan tilted his head. "Who said anything about a power play?"
Bucky stepped in closer, so close Ethan could probably feel the weight of him. "I know men like you. I’ve seen them before, back in my day and now. You think charm and ambition can take you anywhere. That all it takes is a couple of smooth words to get what you want.” His voice dropped to a quiet threat. "But listen to me real carefully, because I don’t repeat myself. Whatever little game you’re playing? It ends now. You so much as breathe wrong around her, and I won’t be so polite next time."
Ethan raised his hands in mock surrender. "Hey, no need to get possessive, Soldier. Just looking out for her future. Can you say the same?"
Bucky’s fists curled at his sides. "I don’t need to prove a damn thing to you,” Bucky took a slow step forward, towering over him, his voice lowering to a dangerous rumble. “So this is the last time I’ll tell you. Stay the hell away from her."
The plates in his vibranium arm flexed again, catching the light—just enough of a reminder of his strength, his power. Ethan noticed, but he didn’t back down.
"I’ll see her soon," Ethan replied instead, giving Bucky a knowing look before walking past him, out the door.
Bucky’s hands curled into fists.
Bucky sat down at his desk, exhaling through his nose as he rolled his shoulders, trying to shake off the lingering irritation from his run-in with Ethan. His vibranium fingers tapped against the wood, the flex of the plates a silent testament to his frustration.
He could tell Ethan was playing a long game. The guy wasn’t just some strategist—he was dangerous in a different way. The kind of man who worked his way into places he shouldn’t be. And right now, Ethan was setting his sights on you.
Bucky clenched his jaw.
No. That wasn’t happening.
Reaching for his phone, he opened your chat. He didn’t bring up Ethan. He didn’t mention the confrontation.
Instead, he smirked slightly, fingers typing out something much more important.
Bucky: Be ready for me when I get home. Bucky: I want you waiting for me just the way I like. Bucky: Think you can do that, sweetheart?
He leaned back in his chair, watching the three little dots appear on the screen.
You were typing.
And just like that, the irritation in his chest melted into something far more satisfying.

Bucky arrived at the warehouse feeling a little on edge. Between Ethan, last night’s dinner, and the gut-wrenching footage he had forced himself to watch, his patience was running thin. He pushed open the door and stepped inside, greeted immediately by the sight of Sam and Joaquin, who were hunched over a monitor.
Sam looked up and grinned. “Well, well, if it isn’t the future Time Magazine: Person of the Year.”
Bucky exhaled sharply, shaking his head. “I’m leaving.”
“C’mon, man, we’re just getting started.” Joaquin leaned back in his chair, smirking. “How’s the world’s new favourite heartthrob handling the fame? You sign up for Instagram yet?”
Bucky glared. “No.”
Sam let out a dramatic sigh. “Shame. You’d be killing it. Thirst edits. Fan cams. Maybe even a few questionable Tumblr stories—”
Bucky shot him a sharp yet unknowing look, almost in warning, and Sam knew better than to keep pushing. He’d felt Bucky’s charged energy immediately upon entering the room.
“Alright, alright.” Sam held his hands up in a joking surrender. “But real talk, you been acting weird. What’s up?”
Joaquin’s grin faded. “Yeah, man. Did something happen?”
Deep down, Joaquin and Sam both cared for Bucky so much, even if they enjoyed having their fair share of fun. And Bucky appreciated them both in spite of it all. Sam Wilson and Joaquin Torres were two of the best things that had ever happened to James Barnes.
Bucky hesitated, apprehensive of Sam’s question, then ran a hand through his hair. “It’s that new guy. Ethan Holloway.”
Joaquin’s eyebrows shot up. “Who?”
“Some political strategist,” Bucky muttered with an eye roll. “He’s apparently Tara’s replacement.”
Sam and Joaquin exchanged a glance.
“So let me get this straight,” Sam said slowly. “Tara—the woman who literally tried to ruin you—handpicked her own replacement?”
“Suspicious,” Joaquin agreed.
Bucky exhaled. “Not quite; Tara was hired by Ross and so I can only assume Ethan was hired by Ross too. Tara hasn’t been seen since Russia, she’s off the grid. And now this guy just shows up….” Bucky sighes, running a hand over his face. “And he’s getting too close to Y/N.”
Again, Joaquin and Sam share a glance.
“Ohhh,” Joaquin said knowingly.
Bucky shot him a pointed look, immediately recognising how he sounded. “It’s not like that.”
“Sure, sure.” Joaquin smirked. “So you don’t mind if she—?”
“I mind,” Bucky snapped before he could stop himself. The mere thought of Ethan putting his hands anywhere near you made Bucky sick to his core.
Sam burst out laughing.
Joaquin whistled. “Damn. You got it bad, man. You and that girlfriend of yours—”
Bucky scowled. “She’s not my girlfriend.” He interjected.
Sam raised an eyebrow. “You sure about that?”
“She’s not.” Bucky crossed his arms. “She hasn’t said anything. I haven’t said anything. It’s not official.”
“So make it official.” Joaquin leaned forward. “What’s stopping you?”
Bucky didn’t answer right away. The truth was, he didn’t know. He’d certainly thought about it. If this was 1943, he’d ask you out on dances and on dates to jazz bars and maybe the fair if you were up to it. He’d ask your father before asking you; if it would be acceptable to begin a courtship, hell, he probably would have married you by now. But it was a different time and Bucky had no experience with navigating this new reality he was faced with.
Maybe it was the weight of everything happening—the campaign, Hydra, Ross, the goddamn world watching him. Maybe it was the nagging feeling that he wasn’t enough for you, not after everything he’d done. He was so afraid of endangering you even more.
Sam studied him for a moment, then shook his head. “Look, man. I know for you, life has felt painstakingly long, but you and I both know, life is short, especially when you aren’t getting frozen in time for seventy years. You want her? Go get her. Before some pretty-boy politician beats you to it.”
And that was enough. Bucky clenched his jaw. “Ethan’s not gonna beat me to anything.”
“That’s the spirit,” Joaquin grinned, pumping his fist in the air and almost cheering for the Congressman.
Before Bucky could retort, the warehouse door swung open.
None other than Dr. Bruce Banner walked in, adjusting his glasses. His white shirt stretched over his chest and his skin was tinged green, and he was big. Not Hulk big, but big enough. Bucky noted that his hair was greying and it made him realise it had been years since he had last seen Bruce.
Joaquin’s grin dropped off his face in a sudden, almost disturbed reaction. “What the…”
“Alright, what’s the emergency? Because I was in the middle of something very important.” Bruce said, pulling out a small, creaky chair and daring to sit in it.
Sam smirked. “What, a science experiment?”
Bruce deadpanned. “No. Yoga.”
Joaquin blinked. “Mr Banner… I mean— Doctor, I uh— you’re green. You know you’re green, right?” Bucky and Sam were unable to hide their smirks as Joaquin nervously stumbled over his words.
“Oh yeah! What do you think? We’re calling it “Smart Hulk”. It’s not super convenient, no, but the ladies love it.” Bruce cheesed, flexing his bicep. “I’ve been trying to find a way to phase between being my normal self and the Hulk— and uh, let’s just say it’s still a work in progress.”
The three men sat in silence as they watched Bruce adjust himself at the table, the flimsy chair legs scraping against the floor.
“Uh, anyways,” Bucky ignored him, changed the subject and reached into his pocket, pulled out a flash drive, and tossed it onto the table. “We called you here because we need your help. You need to see this.”
Sam plugged it into the monitor, and the grainy black-and-white surviellance footage began playing. Bruce frowned as the footage flickered—a cold, sterile Hydra lab, a metal chair bolted to the floor. And in that chair…
You.
You were strapped down, struggling against the restraints. The screen flickered, and a man in a lab coat appeared, holding a syringe filled with a dark, viscous liquid.
Bucky’s hands clenched into fists. “I saw this earlier today, from Sam’s intel.”
Bruce’s eyes darkened as he watched. The needle pierced your skin. The liquid drained into your veins. Your body jerked violently against the chair. The scientist jotted something down on a clipboard.
The video cut off.
Bruce exhaled. “Jesus.”
Joaquin swallowed hard. “That was… messed up.”
Bucky stayed silent, staring at the floor.
Bruce adjusted his glasses, thinking. “I recognise that serum.”
Bucky’s head snapped up. “What?”
Bruce nodded slowly. “It’s not the super soldier serum. It’s something else. Something Hydra was working on towards the end, right before they went underground.”
Sam frowned. “What does it do?”
Bruce hesitated. “I don’t know. But I can find out.”
Bucky met his gaze. Do it.”
Bruce nodded. “I’ll start running tests. But if Hydra experimented on her, there could be side effects. Physical. Mental. We need to keep an eye on her.”
Bucky’s stomach churned. He had spent so much time trying to keep you safe. And yet, there were still things he didn’t know.
Bruce gathered his things. “I’ll be in touch.”
As soon as the door shut behind him, Sam turned to Bucky. “Alright. So now what? Should we expose the footage during the press meeting?”
Bucky exhaled. “No,” his jaw tightened. “We don’t know what it is and if the people see that she’s been injected with something, it’s just going to make them fear her. I know what it’s like to be feared and I don’t want that for her. We have enough here right now, and we’re gonna just take it day by day until Bruce gets back with more information.”
“Sam and I are gonna grab some lunch if you want to join us,” Joaquin offered.
Bucky offered the pilot a small smile. “Thanks, but I have to get home to my girl.”

The air in the safehouse was thick with the scent of old books, paper, and the faintest trace of his cologne. You rolled your shoulders back, adjusting your stance as you stood in the centre of the room, watching Yelena stretch lazily like a cat. She had a smug look on her face, already two steps ahead of you, even in her relaxed state.
“So…” Yelena started, hands on her hips, her short, shaggy, blonde braid swinging over her shoulder. “You and Bucky, huh? You still loooove him?” She drew the word out teasingly.
Your eyes widened slightly. “What?” You recalled the conversation you had with Yelena the other day when you were wating for the Late Late Show to start and regretted your admission if it meant she was going to continue joking about it.
“Oh, don’t play dumb. I am very perceptive.” She tapped the side of her head. “And I have eyes. And ears. And an internet connection.”
You groaned. “You’re still looking at that stuff?”
Yelena smirked and rolled her shoulders. “Listen, I’m not judging. It’s just… amusing. Watching you two dance around each other like characters in some overly dramatic slow-burn novel.”
You pointed at her. “Are you gonna train me, or just roast my love life?”
“Both,” she said, grinning before lunging at you.
You barely had time to react before she swiped at you, forcing you to dodge. You managed to pivot to the side, but Yelena was fast—too fast. Her foot hooked behind your ankle, and in a blink, you were flat on your back.
“Oof—”
“Sloppy,” she said, standing over you. “If I was an enemy, you’d already be dead. Again.”
You groaned as she offered a hand, yanking you back to your feet with ease.
“Come on, where’s that fire? That rage? Imagine I am Tara,” she taunted, taking a step back into a fighting stance. “Or worseimagine I am Bucky, denying you hot, steamy, passionate—”
You swung before she could finish.
Yelena blocked your punch effortlessly, laughing. “There it is! You do have a spine.”
Rolling your eyes, you exhaled, trying to focus. The next time she lunged, you reacted faster, sidestepping and slamming your forearm against hers to deflect her attack. Yelena grinned, clearly enjoying herself as she kept up the pressure, forcing you to stay on your toes.
For the next fifteen minutes, she tested you—over and over again. You blocked, ducked, and countered where you could, but she still knocked you on your ass more times than you’d like to admit.
“Better,” she finally said, offering you a bottle of water. You took it, gulping down a few mouthfuls.
“So…” she started again, wiggling her brows.
You sighed. “What now?”
“What does Bucky do with those metal fingers?”
You choked on your water, coughing as she cackled, slapping your back.
“Oh, please, I see the way he looks at you. Like a lovesick puppy who just wants to—”
“Yelena!”
She laughed harder, putting her hands up. “Okay, okay, fine. No more teasing. For now.”
You shook your head, ignoring the warmth creeping up your neck.
“Alright, back to business. Do you want to keep getting your ass kicked, or do you actually want to learn something?” Yelena asked.
You took a deep breath and rolled your shoulders. “Let’s go again.”
Her grin was wicked. “That’s the spirit.”
You wiped sweat from your forehead, panting slightly as you steadied yourself. Yelena was grinning at you like she had all the time in the world, barely even winded. Unfair.
"Not bad, солнышко," she said, stretching her arms over her head. "You lasted longer than I expected. Still got your ass handed to you, though."
You groaned, shaking out your sore limbs. "Gee, thanks for the encouragement."
"Anytime." She smirked. "But, hey, at least you’ll be prepared for when Bucky starts another pissing contest with Ethan."
You shot her a look. "That’s not happening."
Yelena snorted. "You’re adorable when you lie to yourself."
Before you could argue, your phone buzzed on the desk. You grabbed it, glancing at the screen—your stomach flipping at the sight of Bucky’s name.
Bucky: Be ready for me when I get home tonight, sweetheart.
A shiver ran down your spine. It was simple, straightforward, and yet… so him.
Yelena peeked over your shoulder before you could hide the screen.
"Ohhh," she drawled, smirking. "Now that is interesting."
"Mind your business," you muttered, fingers flying over the keyboard as you typed back.
You: That depends… ready for what, exactly?
His response came almost instantly.
Bucky: Wouldn’t you like to know?
You bit your lip, warmth spreading through your chest.
Yelena groaned. "Ugh, you two are disgusting. If you don’t make things official soon, I’m going to vomit."
You rolled your eyes but couldn’t fight the smile creeping onto your lips.
“Shut up and help me stretch.”
Yelena just laughed.
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁.
As you waited for Bucky, your nerves fluttered. You knew tonight was going to be different. You'd spent the afternoon preparing, trying to sort out your thoughts, your feelings. The weight of everything between you two—his jealousy, the tension, the unspoken emotions—had built up to a breaking point. You could feel the shift as you slipped into the lingerie you had carefully chosen, the delicate fabric clinging to your skin, making you feel both vulnerable and powerful at the same time. It wasn’t just about attraction. It was about more.
You had never felt more certain about how you wanted this to go. Tonight, everything would change.
When the door creaked open, you heard the familiar sound of his boots on the floor, his presence filling the room before you even saw him. Bucky stood there, eyes locking with yours, and for a moment, everything else faded away.
"You’re trying to kill me, aren’t you?" His voice was rough, low, and filled with hunger. His cock was already hard, pressing against his slacks.
You just smiled, letting him drink in the sight of you, and as the silence stretched, the tension between you both became palpable. His eyes darkened, his chest rising and falling more rapidly as he stepped closer. You lay back on your elbows, legs spread, displaying your whole body to the Congressman.
"You know, I didn’t think I’d be able to get through the day after everything that’s happened," he murmured, his hand brushing his cheek. "But now that I’m here… I can’t think about anything except you."
You sat up on the bed, drawing him toward you with a single touch on his jacket. “Oh, rough day?” you replied softly, your voice almost a whisper. You could feel his restraint slipping. Bucky wasn’t used to this kind of vulnerability, but with you, it felt different. He let go of the walls he’d built for so long, and it was raw.
He didn’t waste another second. His lips captured yours in a kiss that was all fire and desperation. His hands roamed over your body, as though he was reacquainting himself with every inch of you, mapping out your curves and memorizing the feel of your skin beneath his touch. You could feel the tension in his body, the way his muscles tensed as if he was holding back—trying to keep his emotions in check. But you knew better. You could feel how badly he wanted you, how much he longed for this moment, for something real amidst the chaos.
“Bucky,” you whispered softly between kisses, your hands gliding over his chest. “Are you okay?”
He paused, his lips brushing against yours, forehead resting against yours as his breath came heavy. There was a vulnerability in his eyes that you rarely saw, and it made your heart ache. “I don’t know how to do this,” he admitted, his voice thick with emotion. “I don’t know how to be with someone, not like this. Not after everything I’ve done.”
You cupped his face gently, looking into his eyes with all the sincerity you could muster. “You don’t have to be perfect, Bucky. I just want you. All of you. The past, the present, everything.”
He closed his eyes for a moment, his fingers tightening on your waist as if pulling you even closer, as if you could somehow close the gap between the walls he had built. When his eyes opened again, they were filled with a quiet intensity.
“You make me feel like... I don’t have to hide anymore,” he said, his thumb tracing over your bottom lip. “Like maybe I can be someone I’m not afraid to be. Someone you can be proud of.”
“I’m already proud of you, Bucky,” you replied softly, your voice filled with certainty. “You don’t have to prove anything to me.”
“I’m not good with words,” he said quietly, his lips grazing over your cheek as he moved closer. “But I know what I want. And I want you. I don’t care about anything else. I just want you by my side. Every day. No more hiding.”
You felt your heart race at his words, your chest tightening with a mixture of love and excitement. This was everything you had been hoping for, and more.
“Bucky...” you whispered, your hands drifting up to his neck, pulling him closer. “What are you saying?”
“I’m saying…” He paused, looking at you with a level of intensity that made your pulse quicken. “I want you to be my girlfriend. Officially. No more running from this, from us. I don’t want to fight it anymore.”
The words hung between you, powerful and undeniable. A part of you had always known this was coming, but hearing it from him—the man who had been through so much, the man who had fought his own demons—felt like the most beautiful thing in the world.
You smiled softly, your heart overflowing with emotion. “Yes,” you whispered, your voice steady and full of warmth. “Yes, I’ll be your girlfriend.”
A slow, relieved smile spread across his face, and he kissed you again, his lips hungry but tender. He deepened the kiss, his hands roaming once more as if he couldn’t get enough of you. But this time, it wasn’t about just the physical—this was about finally breaking through all the walls, finally opening up to the possibility of something real, something lasting.
Bucky’s hands were everywhere, his body so close to yours that you could feel the heat radiating off him. Every inch of him was pressed against you, and you could feel the steady, powerful beat of his heart through his chest. His breath was shallow, his lips moving feverishly against yours as he deepened the kiss, as though he couldn’t hold back any longer. His every movement was deliberate, a reminder that he was in control, yet there was a tenderness in his touch that you couldn’t ignore.
You could feel the subtle flex of his muscles as he moved, the heat of his body seeping into yours, and the unmistakable press of his hardness against your thigh. He shifted slightly, his broad frame pressing even further into you, and you could feel the weight of his desire, unmistakable and all-encompassing.
His lips left yours, trailing down your jaw and then to your neck. As he kissed you there, you could feel the warm, faintest traces of his stubble against your skin. You gasped as his lips moved lower, his breath hot against your throat. He kissed you with urgency, a possessiveness in every action, his fingers digging into your skin as though marking you as his. You couldn’t help but arch into him, your hands slipping to his back, feeling the taut muscles beneath his shirt. He was all around you, overwhelming you with his presence, his need for you undeniable. When his teeth gently grazed the sensitive skin on your neck, you shuddered, the sensation sending a bolt of desire straight to your already wet core. His hands moved, sliding down to your hips, pulling you closer so that you could feel every inch of his body pressed intimately against yours. His lips returned to yours, kissing you with a desperation that made your pulse quicken. The connection between you felt deeper now, more intense, as though you could feel the weight of every unspoken word he had yet to say.
“You’re mine,” he whispered between kisses, his voice rough with longing as his hands moved to your waist, fingertips brushing over the soft fabric of your clothes before sliding underneath. His touch was possessive, his grip tightening as he pulled you impossibly closer. “I’m not letting you go,” he muttered, his breath coming in shallow bursts against your skin. “I’m never letting anyone have you.”
"I’m not going anywhere," you whispered, your voice full of conviction. "I’m here. With you. Always."
You could feel his hardness, unmistakable and pressing against you with each subtle shift of his body. It was impossible to ignore, the heat of it searing through your clothes, and you couldn’t help but moan softly into his mouth as you pressed closer. You could feel the thickness of him, each movement only serving to heighten the anticipation that hung in the air between you both. Your walls clenched around nothing as his hand cupped your breast, squeezing it playfully.
You gasped, the sensation making your body heat up with need, and your hands moved instinctively to his chest, feeling the tension in his muscles, the way his heart raced just like yours. But it wasn’t enough; it was never enough when it came to him. You wanted more. You needed more.
“Are you sure about this?” he asked, voice strained as his eyes searched yours. There was a flicker of vulnerability behind the raw intensity, but it was quickly replaced with something darker. “Because I’m not going to be able to stop once we start.”
You met his gaze, and in that moment, you saw nothing but truth in his eyes—the certainty, the longing, the need. You knew then, more than ever, that you were both standing on the edge, ready to fall together.
“I’m sure,” you breathed, your voice trembling with the weight of the moment. “I want this. I want you.”
That was all the confirmation Bucky needed. His hands moved to your hips, lifting you effortlessly, his lips crashing against yours again, more desperately this time. You could feel his heart pounding in his chest, his hands trembling slightly as he held you, as if he was trying to imprint this moment onto his very soul.
His body pressed harder against yours, the weight of him feeling almost suffocating in the best possible way. “I’ve wanted to do this all day.” He hummed into admittance.
You could feel the tension in him, the way he was holding himself back—just barely. He was trying so hard to maintain some control, but you could feel the raw power that was just waiting to explode. You could feel how badly he wanted this, needed this. And you weren’t about to stop him. You didn’t want him to stop.
“Fuck doll, you’re so beautiful,” he whispered, his breath hot against your skin.
His hands slid lower, his fingers brushing against the waistband of your underwear, and that small, subtle movement made your breath hitch. You could feel how hard he was against you, his need undeniable, his restraint slipping more with every passing second. His eyes locked onto yours, dark and hungry, as if asking permission, but you didn’t need words to know what he wanted.
You nodded, breathless, and before you knew it, his hands were pulling at your clothes, the urgency in his movements matching the desperation in his eyes.
“You’re mine,” Bucky growled, his lips finding your neck again as he pulled you closer. His fingers traced the line of your collarbone, moving lower until they found the waistband of your pants. He tugged at them, pulling them off you slowly, as though savoring each moment, each part of you that was being revealed.
You were exposed, vulnerable, and yet, in that moment, you felt powerful, empowered by his desire for you, by the way he couldn’t seem to get enough. His lips left your skin, and for a brief second, he pulled back, eyes locking with yours, searching for something—maybe reassurance, maybe just confirmation that you wanted this too.
His fingers brushed against your slick core, teasing you for just a moment, feeling the heat that radiated from you, but then he pulled away just enough to look down at you, a wicked grin spreading across his face.
“Tell me what you want,” he said, his voice low, filled with that dark, raw hunger that made your pulse race.
You swallowed hard, your mind spinning from the intensity of it all. He was making you feel like you were his whole world, but in the best way. “I want you, Bucky. I want all of you.”
He didn’t hesitate. He surged forward, pressing into you with one swift, controlled movement, and you gasped as he filled you. The sensation was overwhelming, making your head spin as he held you close, buried deep inside you. You could feel every inch of him, and your body reacted instinctively, pulling him closer, urging him deeper.
Bucky’s groan was low and guttural as he began to move, his pace steady but intense. He was determined, his hands gripping your hips as he guided you both, the room echoing with the sounds of your bodies coming together, each movement a mix of passion and need.
He was relentless, and so were you. Every time he thrust into you, you felt the world shift, your body responding to him, pulling him in even deeper, wanting more.
Bucky’s lips found your neck again, his breath hot against your skin as he kissed, nipped, and marked you in a way that made you feel like you were the only thing that mattered in the world. He was losing himself in you, and you were losing yourself in him.
“You’re so fucking perfect,” he muttered, his voice ragged as he held you tightly, the rhythm of his movements growing faster, harder. “Think Ethan could fuck you like this?”
Your stomach coiled into a knot at the mention of Ethan’s name; you knew he got Bucky all bothered, but you hadn’t realised it was this bad. You loved possessive Bucky, and your body loved it too. You clamped down on his cock, fingernails scratching at his shoulders. “Mm, no,” you managed to choke out.
“Think he could make you cum like I do?” Bucky quizzed between heavy breaths.
“N-no, no one can make me cum like you do,” you barely manage to get out the words when Bucky brings his hand to the column of your neck, squeezing it. The action startles you but only turns you on even more.
Bucky’s rhythm became more frantic, his movements hard and possessive, as if he couldn’t get enough of you. His grip on your body tightened, his fingers digging into your skin, leaving marks where his hands had been. He was claiming you in every way possible—physically, emotionally—and you felt yourself surrendering to him completely.
“My good girl,” Bucky’s whispering chants were like he was saying a prayer under his breath; like he was worshipping his God needlessly and desperately.
Each thrust sent shockwaves through your body, every inch of him hitting just the right spot, making you see stars. You could barely breathe, your body shuddering with the force of your desire. You needed him just as much as he needed you, and the way he moved—so controlled, so determined—made your pulse race even faster.
“Bucky...!” Your voice was strained, the words barely leaving your lips as your body responded to him, pushing against him, begging for more.
“Shh...” he whispered against your ear, his breath hot and heavy as he continued to move inside you.
His lips were on you again, kissing you with urgency, as if every moment apart from you was too long. You kissed him back with equal hunger, your hands tangled in his hair, pulling him closer. You felt the heat of his body pressing into yours, the feeling of his chest against yours, his heartbeat syncing with yours. Bucky groaned against your lips as he pushed into you harder, his breath ragged and deep. He couldn’t stop, didn’t want to. The way you felt around him was intoxicating, and he was lost in it. Lost in you.
You moved against him, riding him in sync with his thrusts, your body craving the pleasure he was giving you. Your hands found his shoulders, nails digging into the fabric of his shirt as you held on, feeling the overwhelming need for him growing stronger.
“You feel so damn good,” Bucky growled, his voice rough, as his eyes locked onto yours with an intensity that made your stomach flutter. “Can’t get enough of you.”
Your eyes fluttered closed at his words, but you pulled him down for another kiss, your lips desperate against his, as if you couldn’t breathe without him. His hand slid between you, finding your clit and rubbing in time with his thrusts, making your entire body tense, your breath catching in your throat.
You gasped, your fingers digging into his back as you finally reached your peak, the waves of pleasure crashing over you, pulling you under. Bucky’s name escaped your lips in a breathless cry, and the sound of it drove him wild. He followed you, his thrusts turning erratic, and with one final, deep thrust, he buried himself inside you, his body shaking as he released, the tension in his muscles unraveling.
He collapsed on top of you, both of you breathing heavily, the weight of the moment settling between you. His face was pressed into your neck, his breath warm against your skin, as he held you tightly, not wanting to let go.
You ran your fingers through his hair, feeling the soft strands as you let out a contented sigh. “That was... amazing,” you whispered, your voice hoarse from the passion.
Bucky’s lips curled into a smile, though his eyes remained closed for a moment, savouring the aftermath. He kissed your neck gently, his lips lingering on your skin. “You’re mine now. Don’t forget that.”
His grip on you tightened, and his lips found yours in a soft, lingering kiss, a promise of more to come. You could feel his possessiveness, but also his tenderness, a reminder that despite everything that had happened, despite the chaos of the world around you, you both belonged to each other now.

South Carolina middle school bullies who pushed a 12-year-old girl to hang herself visited her later at the ICU and took photos of the victim to mock her on social media, according to a new lawsuit.
Kelaia Turner, now 14, suffered more than a year of physical and verbal abuse at the hands of five peers at the Dr. Phinnize J. Fisher Middle School in Greenville, her heartbroken family wrote in a lawsuit against the district and nine faculty members who were accused of negligence.
Seeing suicide as her only way out, Kelaia hanged herself in 2023 and was dead for 8 minutes before paramedics could revive her, with Kelaia suffering severe brain damage and remaining in a coma for weeks.
While Kelaia was in the coma, one of the bullies made their way inside the ICU and snapped photos of the intubated girl, posting the pictures on social media and spreading rumors about her injuries, the lawsuit says.
Ty Turner, Kelaia’s mother, said she wants justice and is targeting the district for allegedly failing her daughter and allowing the bullying to go unrestrained for a year and a half.
“They used to teach us, ‘Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me,’ “ the mom told WFY44. “Unfortunately, words do hurt.”
The lawsuit claims the bullying started in 2021 when Kelaia began wearing her natural hair to school, with students calling her “roach” and saying she looked “like a man.”
Kelaia’s teacher, Olivia Bennett, allegedly joined in on the mockery and would acknowledge the victim when the bullies would ask her, “Where’s the roach?”
Along with regularly insulting Kelaia and pushing her, one of the bullies verbally assaulted her when they found out her parents spoke to school officials about the torment and planned to move her to another class.
Things only escalated in 2022 when Kelaia got into a fight with one of the bullies, with school officials opting to suspend her but not her tormentor, according to the lawsuit.
On May 23, 2022, Kelaia’s parents said, students targeted their daughter by playing an offensive YouTube video called “The Black People Song,” which teacher John Teer allegedly allowed to be played aloud without reprimand over the video’s racist nature.
Later that year, the bullies went on to pour water on Kelaia’s clothes and then threw them in the trash, the lawsuit states.
Through all this, the stricken child’s parents allege that the district failed to take any meaningful action to stop the torment, with Kelaia opting to hang herself with a belt in her bedroom on March 17, 2023.
“She was cool to the touch, blood was coming out of her nose,” her mother recalled of her daughter’s limp body afterward. “She had fully committed to what it was that she was attempting to do, and she was gone for 8 whole minutes.”
Kelaia ended up suffering severe brain damage and has been left with no control over her body.
The lawsuit, which was filed in November, seeks damages from the district and faculty members to cover Kelaia’s medical bills, psychiatric expenses, special education, parents’ lost wages while taking care of her, life care expenses, disability care, injury to her psyche and emotional state and loss of enjoyment of life.
Greenville County Schools has denied the allegations and claims its staff takes the appropriate steps when dealing with bullying incidents.
“We disagree with these allegations and have conducted a thorough investigation and review of each allegation at the time they were made,” the district said in a statement.
“While we do not agree with the allegations, our hearts go out to Kelaia Tecora Turner, her mother, and their family,” officials added.
As of Tuesday morning, a GoFundMe to help support Kelaia raised more than $15,000.

Chapter 1 : Never trust technology
Tumblr media
3928 words. TW : light body horror
Acid rain poured over the wasteland that had once been the megalopolis of Los Angeles. The ruins of an ancient civilization were still apparent, the steel of wrecked cars on an abandoned road rusty enough that some of them were destroyed by the aggressive water. The vague growl of disintegrating iron floated in the air, the only sound accompanying the torrential rain that contaminated the few remaining lakes on this desolate ground. Steps suddenly appeared in the distance, proving that someone was still alive in this apocalypse. A large shape walked among the wrecked cars, pulling a damaged cart with one of its wheels threatening to give way. Tall, wearing a black suit that covered both his hands and his entire head, Jolly paced around the scrap metal searching for new pieces to bring back to the general headquarters.
“M.I.N.D., can you analyze this one?” he asked out loud.
A light clinking started, the same sound you hear when computing hardware connects together. The tall man waited patiently until the sound finally stopped.
“There is a MacBook in the trunk, a model from 2026,” replied a robotic voice that seemed to come from his helmet. “I can’t detect anything else, and I can’t tell if it’s in good condition.” “Could be useful. Even if some people hate Apple components.”
Jolly wiped the acid rain from his integrated glasses, and looked in his cart to pull out a crowbar. After a few seconds of effort, the trunk’s lock gave way allowing him to rummage through the contents. A backpack full of holes, a worn blanket, a can of oil…and at the bottom, a laptop pouch which certainly hid the jackpot. The Swedish man smiled ; it was a good find, for once.
“Acidic levels exceed the limit, the air is too toxic and my battery is running low. We should return to headquarters before we encounter any bad surprises,” warned the AI. “I also detected some prowlers less than a mile away.” “I take it all,” Jolly said. “We’ll check the content and its condition at home. Ask Folio and Ruffilo to join me at the meeting point, and signal the position of these prowlers.” “Got it, boss.”
“FUCK !”
The swear word bounced off the cave’s rough walls, then vanished into a dark corridor. This one was very sudden.
“Language, boss.” “Oh, shut up !”
Frustration accumulated on Noah’s shoulders. He was lying on his back, under a huge desk with a gigantic computer on it. His head was lost among large black cables, all of them linking many - maybe too many - screens hung on the cave’s walls. No neons here ; the only available light came from the screens themselves, which projected a pale and flickering glow. The entire scene looked like a film noir.
Our man was in that uncomfortable position, because half of the screens suddenly turned off, as if fried by lightning. Another swear word escaped, and he finally gave up. Some cables still crackled, and he had no other choice but to cut them and hope they wouldn't electrocute him.
“Everything is lost,” he said while standing up, a handful of black threads in his gloved hand. “M.I.N.D., please check that nothing else is corrupted.” “On it, boss !”
The computer’s main screen, on which some Python code was running, suddenly changed and displayed a series of folders. Working by itself, the machine searched through the files at an amazing speed. Noah’s face was marked by fatigue; dark circles had grown under his bloodshot eyes, his hands were shaking as if he were under immense stress. His long body, once well-maintained, was now missing a good part of his muscles and he looked diminished with his back bent over like an old man. Numerous scars adorned his bare arms, some newer than others, some tattoos even disappeared under old wounds. In one word, the poor lad had known better days.
“Corruption detected in the system, but I managed to recover the second-to-last save,” the robotic voice finally claimed. “I’m restoring it right now.” “Better than nothing,” Noah whispered, although he didn’t look relieved at all. “High cortisol levels and blood pressure. You should rest.” “Leave me the fuck alone! I don’t have time for this!”
The irritation made him irrational. Raging against the entire world, Noah put his hand over his right arm and pulled abruptly, ripping off what seemed to be a piece of black plastic. Where the thing was plugged in was now a simple metallic circle, tightly secured to his flesh. Looking up close, it vaguely resembled a catheter one could find in hospitals back then, and there was no doubt that it served the same purpose. That was what guaranteed their survival : a permanent connection with M.I.N.D. who offered constant protection in this hostile world. But although he pulled that away, Noah couldn’t sever the ties with the AI. Not anymore.
“I was programmed to look after your health before everything else, boss. If you take off the device, I can’t fulfill my mission in its entirety,” the AI explained in a terribly neutral tone. “If you wanna piss me off every five minutes about my health, you can get fucked, I’m not putting back that fucking chip!” “Noah, don’t be childish.”
Suddenly, the feminine voice became more human, more…palpable. Using his real name instead of “boss” was unusual for her, and it totally threw him off. That change alone was enough for him to stop what he was doing and stare at the main computer screen. He came closer, slowly, put his hands down on the desk as a woman’s face appeared in front of him. His heart missed a beat.
She was here, M.I.N.D., staring back at him with a soft but accusing glance, her cartoony anime-like features moving with a surprising fluidity. Her brunette hair gently floated around her face as if it were underwater, and her dark eyes looked too real to be true. A smile strained her lips, on the verge of the uncanny valley, but soon came back to normal and opened.
“There, I like it better like that,” she said. “If you overwork yourself and die in the process, your mission will not be fulfilled.” “Yes, but…”Noah tried, but she cut him off. “The others can’t win without the both of us. It would take them years. You and I, we’re made to do great things. I’m your shield against her, remember ? And you’re my vessel. If one of us disappears, the entire operation is compromised.” “And you’re telling me that because…?” “You, humans, have a fragile carnal envelope. You have to take care of it. If you forget to take care of it for too long, you may die. The smallest mistake could be fatal.”
M.I.N.D. was right, obviously. Noah knew that deep down, he couldn’t last very long in a fight in his current condition. The stress kept him awake and he did overwork himself. However, this behavior didn’t make him win enough time to justify its existence. He should calm down.
A sigh, and suddenly he looked diminished again. These past couple of years felt like he aged ten years, and the more time passed, the less he felt even human. His eyes searched on the floor to find M.I.N.D.’s chip, which he fixed back where it belonged and winced when the device connected again. It wasn’t pleasant at all.
“Will you give me a sleeping pill?” he mumbled.
The AI’s avatar disappeared from the screen and the Python code appeared again. It was obviously running it in the background, like a deciphering algorithm.
“Of course, boss.” she said, taking back her usual robotic voice. “I’ll still be restoring the system while you rest your body.” “Jolly will surely fix you. If I’m not awake by then, leave the total access to your parameters to him. Except…” “Except the “core” folder, of course. On it, boss. Good night and sweet dreams.”
Jolly’s patience started to grow thin. His eyes swept over the plains, looked at his stats displayed on his right forearm, then looked at the landscape again. He had given the signal a while ago and hoped that his two acolytes would soon be by his side. With a deep sigh, the tall man kicked a stone that rolled further away. He was lucky in his misfortune : the acid rain calmed down a bit, and some radioactive rays of sunshine pierced through the dark clouds.
“How much time again ?” he grumbled out loud. “Folio seems close,” M.I.N.D. replied. “But I’ve lost contact with Ruffilo. He doesn’t reply to my requests, but I still have access to his vitals.” “His suit’s battery must be running low, like all of ours. We should think about taking a walkie-talkie like the old days, if we can find some.” “You wanna replace me, boss ?” “Of course not! Just…ah, nevermind.”
A dark silhouette finally appeared, struggling to pull a cart that looked maybe three times as full as Jolly’s. The man raised an eyebrow ; Folio had totally let go of the salvage, and he doubted that all his findings were very useful. Not even mentioning that his tarpaulin was gone, and the metal on top of all these things was significantly damaged by the rain.
“Folio, seriously?” Jolly sighed. “What? I need a lot of scrap steel to fix the ventilation !” the youngest justified. “And you think that your rusty stuff will be helpful?”
Nick shrugged, and crossed his arms over his chest out of defiance. As the youngest and the last addition to their team, he was always hot-headed and didn’t really like to follow orders. It was a real miracle that nothing happened to him, apart from a few scratches here and there. Not to mention the chip he too had on his arm, the only body modification they all consented to make. Noah was the only one who went further than that, but he had a very good reason to give up a part of his humanity behind.
“We should go home, shouldn’t we ?” The rain is starting to pour again,” Folio said, staring at his suit’s screen. “Five more minutes,” Jolly replied. “I’m sure he’ll join us soon.” “Maybe he’s already home ?” “He’s got orders, as we all do. He wouldn’t do anything against this order. It would be too dangerous, and he knows that.”
The oldest of them all started to be very concerned about Ruffilo’s absence, and his lack of patience began to show through jerky gestures. He checked his oxygen levels again, the time on his screen, and finally let out a swear word.
“C’mon, we have to find him”, he ordered in a serious tone. “Eh…don’t you want me to stay here and watch our stuff?” Nick tried. “If something happened to him, it means that the entire zone is way too dangerous to stay alone. You’re coming with me, that’s an order!” “Yeah, yeah…no need for high horses here.”
The young man kicked a stone to show his frustration, but complied and abandoned his findings to follow his elder. Jolly’s attitude proved how stressed he was, probably more troubled by their friend’s absence than he let on. Under his helmet, his face turned pale and his jaw was clenched, his dark blue eyes underlined by dark circles couldn’t stop sweeping over the plains in fear of a bad surprise. For that matter, he reached behind him and grabbed his assault rifle, checked the ammo and kept it in hand. Folio mimicked him ; if the eldest stayed alert that way, it meant that danger was upon them.
Seconds dragged as they walked through the ruins, the rain pouring more than ever with a concerning intensity. Fortunately for them, the wind was weak; a storm right now would be the worst timing ever. Each quiver was a potential threat, be one of the creatures that lived in this apocalyptic landscape or those who didn’t have their best interests in mind. More than ever, it was the silence, slightly broken by the moving metal under the acid, that was the creepiest.
“We should have found him already, shouldn’t we…?” Nick murmured, unable to stay silent as the stress was too high. “Shh,” was Jolly’s only response.
He thought the same thing, but hoped not to draw attention. The two of them could take on many opponents if they had the element of surprise ; it could save their lives. So they had to stay silent.
Too many minutes passed until they finally heard a growl not so far away. Jolly immediately turned towards the noise, wondering if he wasn’t heading straight into danger. But if danger there was, the hope to find their last teammate was also high ; the risk was calculated, and necessary. He adjusted his grasp on his weapon and walked closer and closer, until he froze. A piercing, inhuman scream, followed by a cry of pain, made his skin crawl.
“Fuck,” he cursed before immediately taking off running.
It was Nicholas’s voice, mixed with one of these prowlers’ shrieks. Fortunately, a few seconds were enough for them to find him, and what they saw froze them in terror.
A dark shadow thrashed on the ground, struggling to escape half a dozen of these humanoid creatures. Their skins were peeling off under the acid rain, their eyeless faces were cut in half by a big grinning mouth filled with sharp teeth. Their bestial growls were frightening, so horrifying that Folio stood completely paralyzed.
It wasn’t the case for Jolly. He raised his weapon in a flash and shot, exploding one of these monsters’ skull. A second bullet reached the throat of another one, and almost beheaded it. Unfortunately, the four remaining creatures were immediately drawn to this new threat. They turned toward him, abandoning the poor soul still writhing on the ground.
“Folio, move your fucking ass !” Jolly shouted, and finally his friend snapped out of his lethargy.
He drew his weapon too, hands shaking, and fired at one of the targets. His bullet flew past its ear, provoking a threatening shriek while turning its face towards him. Sheer panic blurred his vision, his breath grew short, and his focus dropped to near zero. He fired again; the bullet struck the creature’s shoulder, but it didn’t seem to care. It was still moving far too fast in his direction.
“No, no, no…” he moaned, emptying his ammo at the creature, half his shots didn’t even graze its deformed body. The rest of them landed somewhere in its stomach, but it didn’t seem to care.
He was about to die, right here and now. Die because he was too stupid to aim, too scared to save his friends. How could he think he’d be useful outside ? Despite the training, now that he was in the field, he realized that it was completely different and was losing his composure. The creature was now almost upon him. In a few seconds, it would pull his head off and devour what’s left of him. He stepped back, stumbled over a rock, and fell hard. Raising his arms to shield himself, he knew it was useless.
BANG.
The gunshot was so violent that Nick’s ears were ringing. His suit was now splattered with his enemy’s brain matter, from head to torso. What remained of the creature’s body slumped onto his legs, twitching slightly. He glanced over it, eager to see who had just saved his life, and saw a frail silhouette who was clearly struggling to stay upright. The barrel of its rifle was still pointing on him, held one-handed and pressed against the figure’s abdomen for support.
“Up !” this savior ordered in a hoarse voice, which he finally recognized as Ruffilo’s.
Ashamed of what he had just done, giving in to sheer panic instead of fighting properly, Folio immediately obeyed and pushed the body away with disgust. He realized that Jolly had already taken care of the rest of the creatures, and his cheeks turned red. Under his helmet, no one could see it. Good for him.
“Erm… thanks…” he whispered. “Humpf,” Nicholas mumbled.
He was still struggling to stand up. When he could finally look at him more closely, Nick understood that his elder’s suit was in critical condition. His shoulder was exposed, marked with an impressive and bloody bite. The skin around the main bruise should normally be intact, but instead it was already melting due to the ever-present acid rain. His left hand was unprotected as well, and the plates on his back were misplaced. His clothes underneath wouldn’t hold up to the weather for long.
“M.I.N.D., can you analyze his vitals ?” Jolly asked. “It seems my sensors are damaged,” the AI replied. “Your suit’s battery is almost out. Energy-saving mode activated.”
The eldest cursed under his breath. Of course, they couldn’t rely on this bloody AI… but she had already warned them multiple times prior to that encounter, they could only blame themselves.
“We have to go back home,” he declared, and gave a piece of cloth to his friend. “Put your hand in that thing, it will limit the damage…” “Should we go back and pick up our stuff, or…?” Folio asked in a feeble voice. “No, they stay where they are. His condition is critical, and he’s been bitten. There’s no time to waste. We’ll go back for them later.”
“Boss, the team is back. They need you.”
Noah awoke from a deep sleep, his chalky face still weary from the past few days. How much time had he slept? Five minutes? Two hours? Nothing that could fix his problems, though, but he didn’t have a choice. If M.I.N.D. decided to wake him up after all her efforts to force him to rest, the situation must be urgent. He left his makeshift bed, stretched, and joined the cave’s main room.
The three men had taken off their suits and showed obvious signs of conflict. Folio was hanging their equipment on the wall, Ruffilo was sitting half-naked on the central steel-made table and Jolly was searching frantically in what they called the “nurse’s desk”. It was a simple chest with many drawers, in which one could find everything they needed to treat a wound, cure a disease or, in this case, an infection. Noah came closer to the light, frowning, and Jolly jumped in surprise when he saw him.
“Noah!” he shouted suddenly. “M.I.N.D. told us not to bother you…” “She woke me up,” the man replied. “Can you report what happened?” “Ruffilo was late to the meeting point, so we tried to find him. He came upon a group of prowlers and was badly injured. His suit is half destroyed, and he’s been bitten…and also injured by the acid rain.” “Shit. Do we still have any antidote left ?” “That’s what I’m looking for, and…AHA !”
Jolly pulled out a very small vial of dark liquid, smirking. The prowlers’ bite was highly infectious, and if they didn’t want Nicholas to turn into one of them, they had to act swiftly. Noah sighed in relief, came closer to the injured man, and patted his thigh.
“You’re always looking for trouble, aren’t you?” he teased to ease the mood. “You should know me by now,” the other replied in a whisper.
Speaking was still painful, his body seemed too busy fighting the spreading infection and easing the pain in his shoulder and hand. The shoulder, by the way, had turned a nasty purple, another sign that the wound was far from being benign.
Jolly approached with a syringe. He made sure that no air bubble would risk killing their friend, and stabbed it just below the wound. With a bit of luck, the antidote’s effect would take only a few minutes to be felt. For the rest… Nicholas would certainly suffer for a while.
“You seem troubled, Nick.”
Noah had enough of the headquarters, and immediately suggested going back outside to bring back their findings. M.I.N.D. wasn’t very cooperative at first, but she had to comply. Nick couldn’t just go back alone, Jolly was their best medic and had to monitor Nicholas’s health, and they desperately needed new components.
“No, well…yeah…I mean…what makes you think…?” the youngest stuttered, avoiding his friend’s glance. “You’ve been silent since we left the HQ. It’s unusual, coming from you.” “Oh, erm…well…”
Folio didn’t know what to reply. How could he possibly share his shame with the only one in their team who seemed perfectly unable to feel fear ? How could he share how useless he felt, that he may have compromised their mission and could have simply died because he was too stupid to fight ? He should have stayed hidden underground like a rat, instead of following them on this crazy journey. He thought he’d become a hero from the shadows, but in the end…he was just a burden for them.
“I screwed up,” he whispered, lowering his head. “Screwed up?” Noah repeated. “Earlier, I…I panicked. It almost cost my life, and…if Nicholas hadn't been there, I’d be dead by now.”
Silence. All one could hear was the sound of their steps in the apocalyptic desert. The rain stopped but the sky was still dark, and they weren’t safe from another shower. Suddenly, the older man stopped. He looked away in the distance, thinking.
“It’s perfectly normal to screw up sometimes,” he simply said. “But I shouldn’t have…I mean, I trained ! I should have known how to fight too. Jolly did everything, as usual.” “You remind me of myself a few years ago. Believe me, what you did today was nothing compared to the mess I’ve done in the past.”
Folio took off his helmet and glanced at his friend, wondering what the hell he was talking about, but Noah remained silent. He was lost in his thoughts, certainly thinking about that time he endangered many lives. Since he joined these rebels hoping to give sense to his life, the youngest of them all didn’t really bother to learn about the others’ past. Or yes, he did ; he tried to ask around, but nobody dared to speak and share their stories. So he learned not to ask again, but his curiosity was still high.
“Nicholas saved my life when we were kids,” Noah said while checking the inside of the carts they finally reached. “He often put himself in danger to save my ass. He hated me on principle, because I was an arrogant little brat…but he stayed with me, taught me everything he knew and followed me when I decided to launch this mission.”
That was the very first time Noah consented to delve a bit into his memories, and Folio felt honored. He stared at him with big glowing eyes, hung on every word, and finally understood that he wanted to reassure him.
“So…you don’t think he’s angry at me ?” Nick asked hopefully. “And…and Jolly neither ? He’s fought them all alone, and…”
“Jolly is a soldier before anything else,” the eldest interrupted. “He keeps a cool head in every circumstance, and never lets his emotions win. It’s normal not to measure up to him", he’s got way more experience than you do. And…if he were angry at you, you’d definitely know. He’s rather direct.”
Deep down, Noah’s mission was a success : Folio felt confident again, and understood that a simple mistake wouldn’t kill them on the spot. He just had to make sure he wouldn’t repeat the same mistake in a more delicate situation, that’s all. He smiled, happy about this news. He then grabbed his cart, threw his helmet in it and headed back to the headquarters.
“Oh, by the way…I thought you and Ruffilo were the best of friends in the world since forever,” he said and Noah laughed. “Naaaah…our story is rather spectacular, and there was a long time during which we would have killed each other if it weren’t for the greater good. But now, nothing and no one can tear us apart. Just like with Jolly, and you. You’re in the team now. It’s us four against the world.”

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against chemical giants 3M and DuPont over PFAS, commonly known as "forever chemicals," accusing them of knowingly producing and marketing toxic substances while misleading the public about their safety.
The lawsuit points to scientific evidence linking PFAS to serious health risks, including cancer, liver damage and reproductive issues. PFAS have contaminated water, soil and air, posing a significant threat to public health due to their persistence in the environment.
Paxton's complaint seeks damages for cleanup, medical monitoring for affected communities and penalties for alleged violations of state consumer protection laws. The lawsuit emphasizes the need for accountability and immediate action to address PFAS contamination.
3M and DuPont have defended their practices, claiming compliance with regulations and efforts to reduce PFAS use. However, the lawsuit could set a precedent for future litigation against PFAS manufacturers and prompt other states to follow Texas's lead.
Although the lawsuit is a significant step forward, it highlights the need for stronger federal regulations to address PFAS contamination comprehensively and coordinate a nationwide response to the issue.
Texas Attorney General (AG) Ken Paxton has filed a landmark lawsuit against two major chemical manufacturers over so-called per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly known as "forever chemicals."

Mystery Woman Part 2: Avenge Her
It’s been nearly six months since Yelena invaded your life, and it’s been a bit of a; Rollercoaster. She can’t necessarily cook or clean well. But she keeps herself busy, as far as you know, she’s like a cat really. And sometimes her antics give you a heart attack.
Sitting in your office you typed away a report on more loss of vehicle or property damage due to superheros. You filed the claims and checked your phone and a single message was on it from Yelena:
“You need to come home, Opasnost” it said, you didn’t know much Russian but from dealing with Yelena you knew that meant danger. So you talked to your boss and made quick work home. Your foot tapped in the elevator, worried something happened to her. Yelena seemed very capable of helping herself but you still worried, as the door opened you bolted out. You walked slowly to your door and a mix of emotions was with you. You reluctantly took a stance and reached into your suit coat, holstered inside was a pistol. You didn’t own a handgun before Yelena heavily suggested one. She knew more about guns and hand to hand combat than you expected, so this sha but efficient Walther was her own recommendation.
Gripping the door handle you pressed in, hand firmly on the grip and trigger and other now supporting for a laser sight aim. You began to clear room after room. Standing in the bedroom door you waited, until you pressed in, and it was no one, nothing. You lowered your gun and looked at the fancy water bottle Yelena left. She was here but, what happened?
“(Y/n).”
You grabbed the bottle with efficiency and turned and threw it with all your might. The bottle wizzed by Yelena’s head and she didn’t even flinch, it shattered behind her as she kept her eyes on you. “Hello to you as well.” She smiled, “Shit don’t scare me, I saw your text i thought something bad happened? Are you okay?!” You quickly walked over, grabbing her shoulders you looked her over for any sighs of pain or wounds.
“I’m fine. Please let go of me. You’re creeping me out.” She asked, you stepped back and holstered your gun.
“Why did you say it was danger?”
“That? I misplaced my hot sauce.” She spoke so casually that it pissed you off even more.
“Are you serious?” You yell, but lower your voice as you try to calm down. You ignore her antics and simply slump down on the couch to watch TV, Yelena sat next to you, also slouching.
“Long day?” She asked you, “Yeah.” Was your response, admittedly you did, New York, ever since the invasion of 2012, has been a hub for heroes or villains to appear and cause damage. So you’ve been busy for a while now.
“Do you know how much money we lose due to heroes and villains tearing New York apart? Billions. The government wanted to make a Mandate to force Heroes to work for the government. Would have saved us millions in potential losses of revenue.” You rub your face, picturing money burning in front of you. You could only think of one name:
“The Avengers.” You and Yelena spoke that same term, with the same hate in your voices. You turned to her, “Not a big avengers fan, are you?” You said, Yelena kept her eyes forward as if she was trying to burn a hole in the Television. “Them? No, just one in particular..” she said, obviously you could tell it was a very sore topic.
“You know, it occurs to me that I don’t know much about you Miss Yelena.” You turn to her like a sleuth, smirking.
“I doubt I have anything interesting to tell you.”
“I doubt that you doubt that.” You doubled it up and began to ask. “Where are you from?”
“Ohio.”
“Oh— what?” You said, her response actually catching you off guard.
“Ohio, with my mother, father and sister. Did you expect something like Moscow?” She said accusingly which you immediately began to backpedal.
“No no I didn’t mean for it to sound like that—“ your face immediately lightened up, shen snorted and laughed at you. “So afraid to hurt my feelings. No surprise you live alone.” She said obviously as a joke, but to you it wasn’t, you didn’t always live alone. Your joking attitude faded and you didn’t know it but you looked like a stabbed puppy dog. You turned back to the TV, silent. Yelena noticed your smile went away.
“Come on, you have to admit it’s funny.” She spoke to you so nonchalantly, your silence was her answer and she didn’t like it. She wanted to argue and fuss about it, but you just looked, defeated. Yelena slowly caved in. “Look, I’m sorry if that hurt your feelings, didn’t mean to, so can you please stop pouring and just talk to me?” Yelena sounded actually a bit hurt, it was the first time you’ve seen her sound actually sad. You fold your arms and turn to her.
“Okay, we’re cool.” You said and for a moment you saw a smile on her face, but Yelena immediately gets back to being annoying, she scoots back on the couch and plants her feet on your lap. Using you as an ottoman. She goes back to watching TV as if nothing happened, you inhaled and exhaled to calm yourself and just let it happen. The sun set and you both were like potatoes, unmoved.
“You don’t drink, do you?” She asked.
“Rarely.. are you asking if I have alcohol? I don’t have any—“
“Vodka?” She replied, as if she knew exactly what you were going to say.
“Stereotype, my bad.” You frowned, but you got an idea.
“I do have one.” You said and push her feet off of you and head into the Kitchen, Yelena pops her head up past the back of the couch as she watches you search the cabinet in the deep back and pull something out. A red bottle with a dragon on it. You motioned her over and you slammed the bottle confidently down; Fireball Whisky.
“This, is fireball whiskey. Canadian, Cinnamon, Atomic Heat.”
“This looks like child’s play.” Yelena walked over, and you take two shot glasses. “The cinnamon mixes with the whisky to give your chest a burn that you’ll never forget, unless you’re chicken.”
“I am not A Chicken.” Yelena retorts, you smugly look over her. “I don’t know.. thin beak, beady eyes, you might start growing out feathers—“
“Piss off.”
“I will, If you’ll drink it.” You twist open the bottle and the aroma of cinnamon and heat fills your lungs. You pour two shots and offer Yelena one. “You know Ohio’s signature Drink was a Bloody Mary. So I have to see if you guys are really that confident about it.” You sway the glass, she rolls her eyes.
“You’re being childish.”
“I’m pretty sure I’m older than you but… In chicken age you’re pretty old.”
“That’s it.” Yelena snatches the shot and downs it, she looked fine for a moment but coughed as the cinnamon hits her nose, which was pretty amusing to you. “So you’re not a chicken.” You take your own shot, the mix of whiskey and cinnamon hits your throat as the heat sets in. You, just like Yelena cough as you feel the heat on your chest, which Yelena in turn found amusing.
“Alright, this is pretty funny.” She smiled, Shot after shot, laugh after laugh you spent most of the night searing the inside of your throat or laughing with Yelena about your family. But somehow you ended up on the fire escape, side to side sitting down as your legs dangle. Instead of shot glasses it’s just the bottle you both pass.
“It’s so.. pretty. The snow.” Yelena though a slight slur said.
“Yeah, it snows here.. sometimes I guess, did it snow in Ohio?” You asked, your vision a bit of a blur. You couldn’t see very well but you could still firmly make out Yelena’s face, and her face went from amazement to resentment.
“No.. but, it did it Russia.. a lot, a lot after..” she shook her head. “It doesn’t matter.” She took a big swig of the fireball. You saw that it was weighing heavy on her, whatever it was. “Hey..” you put your hand on her shoulder. “If it’s important to you.. it- it matters to me.” You said, trying to sound somewhat nice about it.
“Okay.. I’ll tell you, but I want to know something. I.. when I said about someone else living here, who else did?” She asked you, that wasn’t a question you expected, you took the bottle from her and took a big drink of it.
“My Sister, before I worked in the Law firm there was a sub shop of 105th, we worked there together. I had a big break in my law practice and went to Maine for a week, I asked her to come with me but she couldn’t, said she didn’t want to slow me down.. so, I told her I’d be back… a day Later, those things from space invaded.. it took me a week to find her body. And the Avengers? Just went to eat food.” You explained all of it, Yelena saw the ever increasing rage and anger that you had built up. Tears were in your eyes, “Heroes” they called them, “what a Fuckin joke.” You said, you turned to Yelena who wasn’t expecting that.
“I.. I’m sorry.” She slurred out, “I didn’t know—“
“It’s cool, you asked, my turn.. why are you really here?” You said, Yelena took back the bottle and shotgunned the rest, she tossed the bottle and it flew father than most men could have thrown it. “I’m here.. to Kill an avenger.”
You were actually speechless, you kind of had a smart mouth and didn’t actually have a response to that, until you shook the verbal punch you just took. “Wait, you mean Kill an actual Avenger?” You said, she looked at you with absolute hate in her eyes.
“Absolutely.”
“But, why?” You pleaded, while you obviously have your gripes about heroes, killing them just seems, evil.”
“Because they both took our sisters away from us.. Barton.” Yelena hissed, drunk and angry you felt a mass of rage build up. Her fist clenched.
“My Sister was an avenger, and he killed her, and everyone calls him a Hero.. kakaya chertova shutka (what a fucking joke)” Yelena was mostly calm, had dry humor and overall pretty cool, but the one topic that truly brought out the worst in her, her sister. You reached out to try and touch her shoulder, but you stopped. It’s probably not the best time, you let her grieve and vent, it was mostly cursing Barton in Russian, you listened for an hour, until you felt a pressure on your shoulder. Yelena in a drunk state leaned against your shoulder, sleeping. You wanted to move but, it seemed like you were the only person she could lean on at the moment, she needs it.. and frankly
So did you.

How do personal injury attorneys handle amusement ride malfunction claims?
When you visit an amusement park, you expect to have fun—not to deal with an injury caused by a malfunctioning ride. However, accidents can happen, and knowing how to handle the aftermath is important. If you or someone you know has been injured due to a malfunctioning ride, a personal injury attorney can guide you through the legal process.
Understanding Amusement Ride Malfunctions
Amusement rides are designed to be safe, but like any machinery, they can fail. Malfunctions can result from poor maintenance, design flaws, or operator error. Whether it’s a roller coaster, Ferris wheel, or water slide, these failures can lead to serious injuries. Personal injury attorneys are skilled in investigating these incidents and identifying who is responsible for the malfunction.
What Should You Do After an Amusement Ride Accident?
Your health and safety should always come first. Once you’ve received medical attention, take these steps to help build a strong case:
Document the Incident: Take photos of the ride, your injuries, and any visible issues.
Get Witness Information: If anyone saw the accident, gather their contact details. Witness statements can support your claim.
Report the Accident: Notify park management and file an official report. Be sure to keep a copy for your records.
Keep Medical Records: Retain all documentation related to your treatment to demonstrate the extent of your injuries.
These steps provide essential evidence that can strengthen your case and help your attorney seek compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and other damages.
How Personal Injury Attorneys Investigate Ride Malfunctions
Once you engage a personal injury attorney, they will thoroughly investigate the incident. This includes:
Reviewing Maintenance Records: Identifying whether the ride was properly inspected or maintained.
Examining the Ride’s History: Investigating previous incidents involving the ride to identify patterns of failure.
Consulting Experts: Working with engineers and safety specialists to determine the cause of the malfunction.
Determining Liability: Establishing whether the amusement park, manufacturer, or maintenance provider is responsible.
This process ensures that all relevant details are uncovered to build a strong case on your behalf.
Proving Negligence in Amusement Ride Cases
To win a personal injury case, your attorney must prove negligence by showing that the responsible party failed to uphold safety standards. This might include:
Evidence of improper maintenance.
Documentation of design flaws.
Proof of operator error or inadequate training.
Attorneys use evidence, expert testimony, and records to demonstrate that negligence directly caused your injuries, paving the way for compensation.
Navigating Insurance Companies
Insurance companies often aim to minimize payouts. Personal injury attorneys can manage communications, handle negotiations, and protect your claim from being undervalued. If a fair settlement cannot be reached, they will be prepared to take the case to trial.
Settling vs. Going to Trial
Many amusement ride injury claims are settled out of court. This is often quicker and less stressful. However, your attorney will be prepared to go to trial if a settlement does not fairly cover your damages. They’ll guide you through this process to ensure the best outcome for your situation.
When to Contact a Personal Injury Attorney
Handling a claim involving an amusement ride malfunction is complex due to multiple liable parties and varying state laws. A personal injury attorney has the expertise to navigate these challenges, allowing you to focus on your recovery while they work to secure fair compensation.
If you or someone you love has been injured in an amusement ride malfunction, don’t navigate the complexities of a claim alone. Contact an Omaha personal injury attorney today to discuss your case and protect your rights.

What Should I Do if a Storm Damages My Asphalt Roof?
When a storm rolls through, it can bring heavy rain, strong winds, and even hail that can take a toll on your home’s roof. If you suspect your asphalt roof has been damaged, acting quickly is important. The good news is that you don’t have to navigate this situation alone. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to take if your asphalt roof has sustained damage, ensuring you know how to protect your home and make informed decisions.
Assess the Damage
The first step is to assess the damage to your roof. After the storm has passed and it’s safe, look closer from the ground. Look for signs of damage, such as missing shingles, curled edges, or areas where the shingles appear cracked. If you feel comfortable, you can use a ladder to get a better view, but if you’re unsure, it’s best to leave this to a professional.
Signs of Damage to Look For
Missing Shingles: One of the most common signs of storm damage is missing shingles. If your roof is missing several shingles, it can lead to leaks and further issues.
Curling or Buckling Shingles: Shingles that are curling or buckling may indicate that they are nearing the end of their lifespan or have been compromised by wind damage.
Granule Loss: Check your gutters for an accumulation of granules from the shingles. This may indicate that your shingles are worn down and must be replaced.
Water Stains Inside: If you notice water stains or discoloration on your ceilings or walls, it may indicate a leak due to roof damage.
Document Everything
Once you’ve assessed the damage, it’s essential to document everything. Take clear photographs of the damaged areas from different angles and make notes about what you’ve observed. This documentation will be helpful when you file an insurance claim or need to discuss repairs with an asphalt roofing contractor.
Insurance Considerations
Before you proceed with repairs, checking your homeowner’s insurance policy is a good idea. Many policies cover storm damage to roofs, but the specifics can vary. Contact your insurance agent to discuss your situation and determine your options for filing a claim. Having your documentation ready will streamline this process.
Contact an Asphalt Roofing Contractor
Once you’ve assessed the damage and reviewed your insurance policy, it’s time to contact a professional. Hiring an experienced asphalt roofing contractor ensures that repairs or replacements are done correctly. Look for a contractor with a solid reputation, years of experience, and positive reviews from previous clients.
What to Look for in an Asphalt Roofing Contractor
Experience: Ensure the contractor has extensive experience working with asphalt roofing. This knowledge will allow them to identify potential issues quickly and recommend the best solutions.
License and Insurance: Verify that the contractor holds the necessary permits and insurance. This protects you in case accidents occur during the repair process.
References: Ask for references or check online reviews. This will give you insight into the contractor’s reliability and quality of work.
Get a Detailed Estimate
After you’ve chosen a contractor, they will typically provide you with a detailed estimate. This should cover all aspects of the repair or replacement process, including labor, materials, and timelines. Make sure you fully understand the forecast before proceeding. Don’t hesitate to ask the contractor for clarification if you have questions or concerns.
Be Prepared for Temporary Repairs
If the damage to your roof is significant, you may need to make temporary repairs to prevent further issues while you wait for the contractor to start the work. This could involve placing tarps over exposed areas or securing loose shingles. Your contractor can advise you on the best temporary solutions.
Schedule Repairs or Replacement
Once you’ve agreed on the scope of work with your asphalt roofing contractor, it’s time to schedule the repairs or replacement. Depending on the extent of the damage and the contractor’s schedule, this could take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. During this time, keep an eye on your roof and continue to monitor for any leaks or water stains indoors.
Maintenance Tips for Your Asphalt Roof
After your roof has been repaired or replaced, it’s important to maintain it to prolong its lifespan. Here are some maintenance tips:
Regular Inspections: Schedule regular roof inspections, especially after severe weather events. Early detection of issues can save you time and money.
Keep Gutters Clean: Ensure your gutters are clean and debris-free to prevent water from backing up and damaging your roof.
Trim Overhanging Branches: If you have trees near your home, trim branches over the roof to prevent damage during storms.
Consider Upgrading Your Roof
If your asphalt roof has sustained significant damage or is nearing the end of its lifespan, consider upgrading to a more durable roofing material. While asphalt shingles are cost-effective and versatile, options like metal or tile roofs can offer greater longevity and resistance to harsh weather conditions.
An Energy-Efficient Option
When considering a roof replacement, explore energy-efficient roofing solutions that can reduce energy bills and improve your home’s overall comfort. Some roofing materials reflect heat better than others, keeping your home cooler in the summer.
The Importance of Professional Help
While it may be tempting to handle repairs independently, it’s always best to work with professionals. An experienced asphalt roofing contractor has the tools and expertise to ensure that your roof is properly repaired or replaced, reducing the risk of future issues. Plus, they can provide warranties for their work, giving you peace of mind.
Conclusion
Storm damage to your asphalt roof can be stressful, but knowing what steps to take can help you navigate the situation more smoothly. From assessing and documenting the damage to contacting a qualified asphalt roofing contractor, taking the right actions can save you time and money. Don’t forget to consider maintenance and upgrades to protect your home for years.

New Homeowner? Here’s Why You Need a Home Warranty in Your First Year
Becoming a homeowner is an exciting milestone. Whether you’re moving into a newly built home or a charming older property in Alabama, owning a home brings with it both freedom—and responsibility. From your HVAC system and water heater to your appliances and electrical wiring, every part of your home can break down when you least expect it. And when it does, the cost can be overwhelming.
That’s why so many new buyers choose to purchase home warranties—especially during that critical first year. For homeowners in the South, where extreme weather can stress systems and appliances, securing a home warranty in Alabama isn’t just smart—it can be essential.
In this blog, we’ll break down exactly why a home warranty is one of the best investments you can make during your first year of homeownership, how it works, and what it covers.
What Is a Home Warranty?
Let’s start with the basics. A home warranty is a service contract that covers the repair or replacement of key appliances and home systems that break down due to normal wear and tear. It’s different from homeowners insurance, which covers damages from things like fire, flooding, or theft. A home warranty steps in when your fridge dies unexpectedly, your air conditioner fails in July, or your dishwasher starts leaking.
For a modest annual fee—usually between $400 and $700—and a small service call charge (typically $75 to $125 per claim), you can get coverage for:
HVAC systems (heating and cooling)
Kitchen appliances (refrigerator, oven, dishwasher, microwave)
Laundry appliances (washer and dryer)
Electrical and plumbing systems
Water heater
Garage door openers, ceiling fans, and more
Why It’s Crucial in the First Year
1. Budget Protection When Money’s Tight
Most first-time homeowners stretch their budget to buy their house. Between down payments, closing costs, moving expenses, and new furniture, there’s often little left for emergency repairs. If your water heater dies or your oven stops working, a repair bill of $1,000+ can be devastating.
A home warranty acts as a financial safety net during that critical first year. It helps you control out-of-pocket expenses and protects you from surprise repair bills. That’s especially useful in Alabama, where heat and humidity can put a strain on HVAC and plumbing systems.
2. Covers Older Appliances and Systems
If you purchased a pre-owned home, chances are the appliances and home systems are not brand new. Even if everything passed inspection, wear and tear is inevitable—and older systems are more likely to fail within the first year.
With a home warranty in Alabama, you get protection for covered items, even if they’ve aged. As long as the appliance was in good working condition when coverage began, you're protected from sudden failures later.
3. Peace of Mind During the Learning Curve
New homeowners often don’t know the signs of an impending breakdown or how to find a trustworthy technician. With a home warranty:
You don’t have to guess what’s wrong.
You don’t have to Google repair companies at 10 p.m.
You simply file a claim, and your warranty provider sends a licensed technician to diagnose and repair the issue.
This takes stress off your plate—especially helpful if this is your first time maintaining a home on your own.
4. You’re Covered Through Every Season
From scorching summers to cold snaps in winter, Alabama homes experience all kinds of weather. Seasonal changes can put a strain on your systems:
Air conditioners work overtime in July and August.
Heating systems kick into gear during colder nights.
Storms can trigger power surges, affecting electrical components.
Having home warranties ensures you’re covered all year long, no matter what season brings trouble. It’s an added layer of protection against nature—and the wear that comes with it.
5. Simplifies Emergency Repairs
When a system or appliance breaks down, you need a fix—fast. A home warranty offers 24/7 claim service, so you can start the repair process anytime. No need to shop around or haggle with a repair company. Your provider handles scheduling and ensures you receive service from qualified professionals.
For Alabama homeowners, this is particularly valuable during storm season or in the middle of a heatwave, when contractor availability can be limited.
6. Adds Long-Term Value and Resale Appeal
Even if you don’t plan to sell soon, a home warranty can increase your home’s value when you eventually list it. Buyers often see an existing home warranty as a selling point, and some warranties are transferable to new owners. It signals that your home has been well cared for—and can give buyers confidence in their purchase.
What to Look for in a Home Warranty (Especially in Alabama)
If you're considering a home warranty in Alabama, be sure to look for a provider that offers:
Customizable plans tailored to your home’s age and features
Optional add-ons like septic systems, well pumps, and roof leak protection
Reliable technician network with coverage in your local area
Clear service terms and transparent pricing
Providers like ServicePlus Home Warranty are known for delivering excellent value, fast service, and comprehensive protection—making them one of the best home warranty companies for first-time homeowners in Alabama.
Final Thoughts
Owning your first home is exciting, but it can also be stressful when unexpected problems arise. A home warranty helps remove that uncertainty, giving you financial protection, peace of mind, and support when it matters most.
If you’ve recently purchased a home in Alabama, don’t wait for something to break—invest in one of the best home warranties available and enjoy your new space with confidence. Because protecting your home isn’t just smart—it’s essential.

How Do I File an Insurance Claim for Asphalt Roof Damage?
Dealing with roof damage is never fun. One minute, your asphalt roof is doing its job—keeping your home dry and safe. The next, a storm rolls through, and suddenly, you're dealing with leaks, missing shingles, or worse.
If you're staring at your roof wondering, Now what?, you're not alone. Filing an insurance claim for asphalt roof damage can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. With a little preparation and the right approach, you can navigate the process smoothly and ensure you get the coverage you deserve.
Is Your Roof Damage Covered?
Before you get knee-deep in paperwork, let’s talk about coverage. Not all roof damage qualifies for an insurance claim. Most homeowners’ insurance policies cover sudden and accidental damage like hail, strong winds, fallen tree limbs, or fire.
But is your roof just old and worn out? That’s a different story. Normal wear and tear or neglect typically aren’t covered.
Review your policy (or call your provider) to confirm what’s covered before you file a claim. This saves you time and prevents unnecessary back-and-forth with your insurance company.
Assess the Damage and Document Everything
Once you suspect roof damage, don’t just take a glance and call it a day. You’ll need solid documentation to support your claim.
Here’s what you should do:
Take photos and videos – Capture close-up and wide shots of missing shingles, dents, leaks, or debris. If interior damage (like water stains or ceiling cracks), document that too.
Make notes – Jot down the date of the storm, the time you first noticed the damage, and any details about what happened.
Check for surrounding damage – If your neighbors’ roofs, fences, or vehicles are damaged too, that’s more proof that the weather event was severe.
If you’re uncomfortable climbing onto your roof, don’t risk it. Call a professional roofing contractor (like Lastime Exteriors)
Prevent Further Damage
Insurance companies expect you to take reasonable steps to prevent further damage. This means:
Covering leaks with a tarp
Removing debris that could cause more damage
Securing loose shingles (if possible)
Make permanent repairs before the insurance adjuster arrives. If you replace half your roof before they inspect it, you might have a harder time getting reimbursed.
Contact Your Insurance Company ASAP
Once you have all your documentation ready, file the claim immediately. Most policies have deadlines for reporting roof damage; the sooner you file, the faster you can repair your home.
When you call your insurance provider:
Be prepared with details – Have your policy number, date of the damage, and a summary of what happened.
Ask about the next steps – Find out what forms you must fill out and whether an adjuster will come out for an inspection.
Keep records of your conversation – Write down the name of the representative, the date, and any key details they provide.
Schedule a Professional Roof Inspection
Your insurance company will likely send out an adjuster to assess the damage—but here’s the thing: their job is to minimize payouts, not necessarily to ensure you get a fair claim.
That’s why it’s a smart move to bring in your roofing contractor for an independent inspection. A professional contractor (like Lastime Exteriors) can:
Provide an unbiased damage assessment
Spot hidden issues the adjuster might miss
Give you a detailed repair estimate to compare with the insurance offer
Some roofing companies even help homeowners navigate the claims process, which can be a game-changer if things get complicated.
Review the Insurance Estimate
After the inspection, your insurance company will either approve, deny, or modify your claim. They’ll send you a settlement offer based on the estimated repair costs if they approve it.
Here’s what to look out for:
Is the amount fair? Compare it with your contractor’s estimate. If it’s significantly lower, you might need to negotiate.
Are all damages accounted for? Sometimes, insurance companies miss secondary damage (like insulation or structural issues).
Do you understand your deductible? This is the amount you’ll need to pay out of pocket before insurance kicks in.
If you disagree with the offer, don’t be afraid to push back. You can request a second adjuster, provide additional documentation, or even hire a public adjuster if needed.
Get the Repairs Done by a Trusted Roofing Contractor
Once your claim is approved, it’s time to get your roof fixed. Choosing the right contractor is key—after all, this isn’t just about getting a check from your insurance company; it’s about restoring your home’s protection.
When hiring a contractor:
Make sure they’re licensed and insured – This protects you from liability if something goes wrong.
Check reviews and references – A reputable company should have a track record of quality work.
Confirm they work with insurance claims – Not all roofers have experience dealing with insurance paperwork and negotiations.
Need a reliable contractor? Lastime Exteriors specializes in asphalt roofing and works with insurance claims.
A Few Final Tips to Keep in Mind
Stay organized – Keep copies of all documents, receipts, and correspondence related to your claim.
Don’t accept the first offer blindly – If the settlement seems low, get a second opinion.
Be patient but persistent – Insurance claims can take time, but staying proactive helps move things along.
Look out for storm chasers – After major storms, some fly-by-night contractors offer quick, cheap fixes. Stick with trusted local roofing companies.
