2.) Pink Pearl is bowing, saluting to a very u comfortable Steven as she says "Hello, my Diamond." He answers "Heh, can you call me Steven, please?"

3.) Pink Pearl and Steven are walking at a 3/4 angle. Steven looks over his shoulder and says "You don't have to walk behind me......" Pink Pearl anxiously replies "but......all the other Pearls walk behind their masters."

4.) Steven, drawn from the chest-up, exclaims "You don't have to do what I want! Do what you want!" Pink Pearl frantically shouts back "I want to be a good Pearl and do what you want!" Steven blinks and turns to the viewer with a deadpan expression.

5.) Yellow Pearl and Blue Pearl are gossiping. Yellow Pearl crabs "my Diamond made me rearrange the entire database" and Blue Pearl says "I had to listen to my Diamond cry 10 times in 2 minutes."

Pink Pearl looks shellshocked as she says "My Diamond asked if she could hold my hand when we were walking and insisted I talk about my feelings."

Both Pearls gawk at her. Blue Pearl even lifts her hair up to do so.

Uh….Steven Universe OC??? I don’t have many of these tbh ^^;

Whether it happens in canon or not, I love the concept of Steven getting dragged back to Homeworld to fulfill his role as a Diamond and utterly failing at it! And part of Blue and Yellow’s attempt to get him back into being a Diamond is to give him a new, non defective Pearl who’s so committed to Homeworld’s system that she won’t rebel or allow Steven to start a rebellion. Her problem obviously being that she can’t buck the system or her intended purpose but her purpose is to do what her Diamond wants and to make him happy, but he wants her to be her own person…it’s a headache for both of them.

Design wise, I just wanted to have a Pearl with similar hair to Anthy from Revolutionary Girl Utena since there’s plenty of parallels I could draw between Pearls and their purpose and Anthy’s role as the Rose Bride. Pink Pearl’s outfit looks a little too Era 1 for her to be a new gem but the idea was that Blue and Yellow (mostly Blue) wanted to cling to the past essence of Pink Diamond, hence why Pinky here has a similar outfit to PD.

I dunno if I’ll do anything with this character but she was fun to create and I like drawing her so we’ll see :)

here's one more steven universe throwback

One thing I don't often see people talk about in Steven Universe.

In the series most of Stevens powers come from a need to protect those around him. His shield, his bubble, healing spit/tears, all designed, and come from the desire to, protect those around him. With the exception of his floating which comes from a sense of joy and happiness.

In Future his new powers stem from a subconscious need to protect himself, instead of a need to protect others. He's dealing with a lot and his powers are reacting in an explosive way to keep him safe. Super speed to escape a dangerous situation, explosive screams to throw the threat away from him, and panels, thicker and stronger than his shield and bubble, to shield him from the perceived threat.

Which then makes me wonder, since Pink on Homeworld was known for destructive "temper tantrums" how often she must've felt so unsafe, scared and unhappy that her powers reacted the way Stevens do in Future.

When she became Rose Quartz she felt confident, comfortable and more safe as Rose than as Pink. She had a strong desire to protect the Earth and the Crystal Gems, developing her powers into the ones we see most in the show.

sometimes i worry that *i'm* wrong and SU is bad/rushed/blah blah. then i remember whites fragile need to be perfect and ego defense of thinking she's fixing things. i remember how its perfectly mirrored by stevens need to fix others. how its both beautifully symbolic in CYM an made more explicit and heart-rending in future.

yeah that shit rules. white being reformed is great. its the ultimate rebuttal to the ideology that only good/useful/perfect people deserve to live- which is exactly the standard white held herself and everyone else to. it mirrors stevens arc of selfless heroism. it mirrors the toxic, insecure selflessness thats plagued everyone from pearl to jasper to rose about what it means to "deserve" to live it ties into "love like you" of how learning self-love is intertwined with loving others. it ties into how steven can't let go of his hero role until he's confronted by *literally* having his own mind in white's body, hating the idea of being like her yet ironically reacting exactly how she would - "this is someone bad for society, they should be shattered, this is what's best for everyone." trying to hurt her only hurting him. trying to help her helping all of gemkind - from the corrupted gems to dismantling a system that was held up by those exact ideals.

yeah no SU is fantastic. i'm so sad that its reputation is "oh well it wasn't that good, but it had some lgbt+ rep :)" which is just about the most condescending crap ever. i would gladly flip it. i think most cartoons that have come after SU haven't been that interesting, they've just been mostly generic stories with some lgbt+ rep.
