Large female brown huntsman (aka jungle huntsman) resting under a log beside a pair of iridescent semi-slugs. I love huntsman spiders, they get a bad rap because of how fast they can move, but they're beautiful, docile gentle giants ❤️ 🕷

Sacoglossa. This superorder is made up of solar-powered sea slugs, which ingest the insides of algae cells. This allows some of them to perform photosynthesis using stolen chloroplasts, the only animals to do so.

Uncharismatic Fact of the Day

Most slugs can't move around very well-- but that doesn't mean they don't give it their best shot! Jumping slugs, members of the Hemphillia genus, are named for the intense, dance-like wriggles they perform when threatened. It's not much of a jump, but it's pretty impressive considering they don't even have feet.

Uncharismatic Fact of the Day

For the giant African snail, size really does matter! When two snails decide to mate, the larger (typically older) snail takes on the role of female and accepts sperm from the smaller snail. If both snails are the same size, they will both exchange sperm. Each one may immediately go on to fertilize their eggs, or store the sperm for up to two years!
