The Stars and Stripes with a Mountain Backdrop (Glacier National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking around the shores of Swiftcurrent Lake with a view looking across those waters to the southwest and mountains of the Northern Lewis Range and Continental Divide. This is located in the Many Glacier area of Glacier National Park. One can see the light dusting of snow that had happened the night prior from a recent front that came through. With the clouds hanging over the mountains, there was a mood that seemed to draw me into the setting and image captured. My thought on composing this image was to align myself to center the flagpole with the American flag and then have a backdrop of the mountains behind it. Given I was doing post-processing work with this image a few days before Veterans Day, I felt that day would add to the memories of my time and service as an Army officer.

Fri 4/26
Drove back into Rocky Mountain NP to check out some other areas. Snow started falling heavily when we drove north, but stopped just as quickly. Continued on Trail Ridge Road as far as we were allowed, and got some pretty pictures of the Moraine Park and mountains in the distance. Headed down to Hidden Valley, but no kids were sledding due to lack of snow. Moved on to the Alluvial Fan, where a failed dam at Lawn Lake in 1982 brought down a wall of water and huge boulders, creating the fan shaped pattern where the canyon flattened out. The flood reached all the way to Lake Estes in Estes Park, several miles away. Saw a large school of fly fishermen at the picnic area. Next we tried wildlife viewing at Sheep Lakes, but the only thing we picked up with our telephoto lens was a white rock masquerading as a bighorn sheep. Drove out of the park to the northeastern entrance, and had good beer and pizza before heading back to Swiftcurrent Lodge.
