What Does a Community Support Agency Do?
Provide information and assistance to individuals seeking emergency assistance, housing or financial help. Duties include making home visits and accompanying clients to group meetings and community activities. Properly maintaining client and program records is also a must.
These professionals act as liaisons between their clients and local programs that can help them with public assistance, food, shelter, gas utility payments and jobs. They may charge a service fee, or be paid through government funds.
Socialization
Community Support Agency Llc is a mental health clinic located at 44 Dream Avenue in Delco, North Carolina. It offers outpatient treatment and partial hospitalization/day treatment services. It also offers psychotherapy and behavioral therapy. It serves adolescents, adults and seniors / older adults.
Community based programs designed to promote independence, productivity and integration. Operates from a family empowerment philosophy and includes multiple types of social supports mixed with professional interventions. Examples of these services are family support groups, parent training by lay therapists and parent aides, membership in recreational centers and transportation and homemaker services.
Community supports are services provided in accordance with an individual’s individualized plan that maximize their immediate and continued community functioning. Community support staff teach, model and practice skills with persons served in order to help them become successful in the living, working, learning and social environments of their choice. Community support services are often provided for a service fee. Some are available for free.
Education
Education services focus on enabling individuals to become more competent in the living, work, learning and social environments of their choice. Staff teach, model, and practice skills with consumers.
Education Support Services are based on the specific goals documented in each participant’s service plan. These can include, but are not limited to: tutoring and classes to receive a Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) diploma; vocational training or apprenticeship programs; community college, university or any classes to improve knowledge or skills in chosen career; and other general adult educational services.
A broad-based citywide coalition of unions and community groups fought alongside UFT members to preserve free student Metrocards, as well as middle school science labs and community arts programming. Education justice is a core UFT policy. UFT educators also participate in a variety of education initiatives, including the Brooklyn Education Collaborative, the Middle School Initiative and the CC9 Project. Education services also provide family support to address concerns, navigate the school system and connect parents with community resources.
Behavioral Health
A community support agency can help you with your mental health needs. They can provide psychotherapy, medication management and behavioral treatment services. They can also offer socialization and supervision activities. They have a team of highly trained and experienced professionals who can treat young adults, children and adults. They are also able to treat military service members and clients referred by the court/legal system.
These services are time limited based on individual need and are rehabilitative in nature. The goals are to increase self-esteem, a sense of identity and to develop meaningful relationships with others. They can also help with housing, medical and health, education and employment.
Behavioral health services can include Assertive Community Treatment Teams (ACT). These teams consist of psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and certified peer support specialists who are available 24/7 to help adult individuals with severe and persistent mental illness live in their homes rather than institutions. They can provide an array of community-based services including medication delivery, homemaker services, and respite services.
Employment
Providing opportunities for individuals to develop and build skills necessary to maintain healthy personal, family and community connections. These services may include teaching and assistance in daily living activities, socialization, recreation, community activities, advocacy and other forms of support.
Oftentimes, community support staff will assist the individuals they serve in navigating their local communities by connecting them with formal recovery supports in order to obtain access to housing, employment and education services. They will also assist in linking to community based activities that are personcentered and designed for people with behavioral health diagnoses.
A Community Support Agency strives to recognize that everyone is a valuable member of society and works to ensure their inclusion and full community participation. They accomplish this through applied research, policy advocacy and training programs for Direct Support Professionals. They also work to elevate the profession by fostering leadership and promoting system reform. Through this, they help to transform the way that society views and values people with disabilities.

Let me tell you about a thing
Tumblr media
LearningExpress Library is probably one of my very favorite library databases. It’s got a little something for everyone, whether it’s job information, honing skills, or getting help with test prep. Here’s a rundown!
Adult Learning Center - The Adult Learning Center can assist in improving basic skills, like math, reading, writing, and grammar. Resources include tutorials, ebooks, and practice sets. It also includes a section for preparing for the US Citizenship Exam, which has articles about helpful hints on different sections and a practice test!
Career Center  - A way to prepare for career exams, explore different career paths, and improve workplace skills! There’s a section to Learn More About a Career, which could be a good resource for writers, as well as sections to prepare for entrance exams for nursing school and health programs. You can also prepare for occupation exams for things like Air Traffic Controller,  firefighting, plumbing, social work, ASVAB, and many more. There’s also info about workplace skills, job searching, and interviewing.
School Center has resources for Elementary, Middle, and High Schoolers. Resources differ by library, but in general they should help students build and hone core skills.
College Prep Center is where it’s at for the college-bound student who doesn’t want to/can’t shell out for courses but wants to practice. There are practice exams for: ACT, SAT, PSAT, MSQT, AP tests, TOEFL IBT, and THEA. What I love about these practice tests is that you can take them in 3 modes: Simulation, meant to model the time you’ll have on the test; Practice, where you can see answer explanations after you’ve finished the test; and Learner, where you can view the answers to questions as you go to help you study. There are also some test guides for these tests.
High School Equivalency Center is for people who need GED prep (including GED prep in Spanish), HISET prep, and TASC prep. There are also a couple of skills assessments for different subjects to help people assess where their skills are.
College Center has skill reviews, grad school admissions test prep (GMAT, GRE, LSAT, MAT, MCAT, PCAT) and a ton of other stuff like ACCUPLACER, ASSET, COMPASS, and CLEP prep.
And finally, there is Recursos para hispanohablantes, with  skill builders for reading, math, and writing/grammar, as well as GED prep.
The different “Centers” offered by LearningExpress Library might differ by library, but all of it is super great!
tl;dr LearningExpress Library has a ton of shit to offer for different types of people and you should all check it out!

6 Innovative Options for Students Who Don't Like Regular School
Editor's note: This is part of a series entitled "Innovative Approaches to Support At-Risk Youth."
Let’s face it. A traditional school approach doesn’t work for every student... and that’s okay. Fortunately, there are options in place for students interested in pursuing alternative pathways.  Here are alternative options parents and students can consider.
1) High School Equivalency:
Students who are at least 17 (or 16 with a waiver) are eligible to pursue a high school equivalency diploma better known as the GED and currently renamed the TASC. In most districts students are not on their own. For students pursuing an equivalency there is often help for students prepare to advance to college and pursue career opportunities. Ask if your district has college and career coaches to help students plan for their futures. Some districts may have a workforce development program offering professional training and paid internships. More and more districts are also offering these students opportunities to walk for graduation and attend prom as well. If they don’t have a conversation and see what can be arranged.
While some parents and students consider an equivalency diploma to have a stigma associated with it, others see it as an innovative and efficient ticket allowing students to pursue academic or work passions. It’s also important to remember, that in the modern job market few people place their high school graduation on their LinkedIn resume.
2) Virtual School:
Many states now have virtual learning options available for students such as Nevada Connections Academy. Benefits of such options include that they are available at no cost, they provide a flexible pace and schedule, they can be taking from anywhere in the world. This is a safe option for students who have had issues with face-to-face connections, bullying, or social anxiety. If you don’t have a virtual school in your state, schools such as Florida Virtual accept out-of-state students.
3) Homeschool/Unschool:
Homeschooling is legal in every state. There are a lot of myths and misconceptions about homeschooling. If you scratch below the surface you’ll learn some important facts about homeschooling. For instance, there is a high college acceptance rate for homeschoolers. You can receive a high diploma as a homeschooler. You don’t have to have parents or tutors teach you. There are lots of innovative options to learn such as jobs, internships, apprenticeships, job shadowing, and more. Those completely new to this idea can enroll in a program like Pacific Sands Academy which will walk parents and students through all the requirements for a high school diploma as well as provide support in developing a personal learning plan.
4) Career & Technical Education School:
Career and technical education (CTE) schools fell out of favor in the age of No Child Left Behind and College for All, but to the relief of many students, teachers, and parents, they are making a comeback. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that not everyone needs to pursue a career requiring college and that there are many honorable, high-salaried careers that don’t require a degree. The best place to pursue such options in New York City which has the largest portfolio of options that train about 60,000 students a year. If you visit a quality CTE school like Co-op Tech as you walk the school halls you will see students and work in fully operational beauty and barber shops, students constructing real buildings, an eyeglass repair store, car repair, and students fixing cars.  Students are set up with paid internships and a real shot at a viable career upon completion of the program.
Classrooms at Co-op Tech
5) Drop In Options for Drop Outs:
Many districts have options for students 21 or younger who have dropped out or fallen behind on credits. This varies from state to state and city to city. In places like New York City options include:
A)  Young Adult BoroughCenters: These are evening academic programs designed to meet the needs of high school students who might be considering dropping out because they are behind or because they have adult responsibilities that make attending school in the daytime difficult. Students attend part time and in the evening to earn a high school diploma. Students between the ages of 17.5 and 21, who are in their fifth year of high school and have earned at least 17 credits, are eligible.
B)  Transfer Schools: These are small, full-time high schools designed to re-engage students. These schools look at the credits a student has and provides a personalized plan for them to complete school providing extra support to help students meet academic and personal goals. Support includes access to workshops, tutoring, Regents prep, and extracurricular activities. Schools support students in developing college and career plans for life after high school. Many Transfer Schools have the added component of Learning to Work, which offer students paid internships, job and career development, and more. Hear more from a student perspective in the following video.
6) Alternative School Models
There are both public (Big Picture, Schoolwide Enrichment) and non-public (Agile, Montessori, Democratic) models that provide passion-based learning options that may be better suited for students. These models generally do away with traditional approaches that include teachers, tests, and textbooks and instead invite students to discover and pursue their passions. This post provides more details and additional information n each model.
Your Turn
What do you think? Are any of these options ones you think could work with students you know? Have you seen any of them in practice? Which ones resonate with you for the type of students you encounter?

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and practical approaches - great book
5.0 out of 5 stars A serious book for ever serious trader ! The Intermarket analysis is poorly covered in current literature, with few books of historical data and boring details. Instead in this book the Author, who has mastered the Intermarket analysis, shares discoveries on market correlations, and helps reader to develop indicators and strategies for Etf, Futures and Stocks. This book makes easier to understand today markets, and I suggest it for intraday and both long and short term trading. It is not for fiction traders who bet on markets direction, but for people really trading their own accounts, studying a lot of technical analysis and pondering experts ideas. The book is written in plain English, contains useful info on international markets, and a lot of MetaStock (MS) codes to help users to design (or improving their) trading systems, even you aren't the best programmer. Users of other technical software can easily develop their trading strategies, because in the Appendix there are the MS formulas and Test Specifications for all systems. Reading this book grow up your fever to go to your pc for studying the correlations Author disclosed, and training with his trading strategies ! Minus : discussion on fuzzy logic and genetic algorithms are very introductory (but these are very specific topics). Author limited his Intermarket analysis to major markets, and not all exchange products are covered. Plus : the best book on the subject I ever red : the Intermarket concepts behind trading ideas are well explained. Trading strategies are deeply tested. Author insights help to really make money in today markets. Good value for price : many systems described would cost hundred dollars to buy ! Go to Amazon
5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for every serious trader. This book is a must read for every serious trader. It is an original work and a very serious method to clarify intermarket relationships, especially in volatile markts, like these, where even seasoned traders start to doubt their abilities to navigate through them. What I like about it, is it's scientific approach, using vast amounts of data to prove it. A very helpful introduction makes it easier to follow the rest of the book. Excellent work. Go to Amazon
5.0 out of 5 stars Nuts and bolts pragmatic... Awesome! Update- 11-29-13 For those interested, Markos Katsanos has authored another juicy article in Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities magazine. As usual for him, and unusual for others, he supplies excellent scientific statistical analysis to back his results. If you have doubted the value of technical analysis vs. fundamental, then this is a must read. If you have his book, then you, no doubt, will rush to read December's TASC issue-- it may be all we get for a while. They also had TASC reader's choice survey this month-- I could honestly vote him #1 but had a tough time with #2 or 3. I can't imagine not having his book Intermarket Trading Strategies (Wiley Trading) and software.Added 7/24/11 Markos Katsanos is a revered contributor to "Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities." He has just written an article in the July issue, which tests several money flow indicators. The conclusion I have drawn from the statistics and testing is that the VFI or Volume Flow Indicator (Which Katsanos invented, by the way), shows the best overall performance of the seven indicators tested, when taking risk, accuracy, profitability and consistency into account! I continue to be amazed by this indicator. It is a Godsend for keeping out of trouble before it starts, but is great for playing offense, too. I wanted to share this with potential purchasers of this book because it is just one more thing in his book that makes it worth many times the purchase price alone. I highly recommend this book to any and every trader and investor who cares about their assets. It is also a great gift for someone you care about, who is involved with the markets!Read more › Go to Amazon
5.0 out of 5 stars Great ideas and hints to be used in our own systems I'm a professional Chartered Financial Technician specialised in futures trading strategies and intermarket analysis. I found Katsanos' book a real quantum leap for automatise intermarket analysis. It is a perfect complement to Murphy's Intermarket Analysis, Laidi's Currency Trading Intermarket Analysis (both are discretionary analysis oriented) and Ruggiero's Cybernetic Trading Strategies books. I also enjoyed learning high-end Metastock programming by studying all programs written in this book. It's true that some of the systems are no more so useful due to the change in correlations among the financial instruments but what I learned is how to apply the principles behind the systems. Anyhow some of the oscillators (VFI, ect.) are still good to use today! Go to Amazon
