i keep seeing “me and my husband” by mitski in gallavich playlists and like… no. WRONG. INCORRECT. *loud incorrect buzzer*

are ian and mickey husbands?? YES. are they happy? YES. and that is precisely why they are not “me and my husband”.

“me and my husband” is so grossly misinterpreted and it kills me… it is not about a healthy relationship; the song isn’t about a stable happy marriage like…

you know who fits “me and my husband”? lip and mandy.

the song is about a houswife who is dependent on her spouse- who places her worth on her husband. it’s about unhealthy attachment, being so attached and dependent that you really aren’t your own person without your spouse, and not in a good way. not like you fit together like puzzle pieces, like you are really not a person without them.

season 3 mandy IS that song. people joke about how mandy’s like a housewife, and like, yeah she kinda is. being without lip, or even the thought of being without him, destroys her. and it ends up literally destroying karen because of what it drove (no pun intended) mandy to do. “and i am the idiot with a painted face, in the corner, taking up space” is such a mandy line, especially when lip screams at her to go home to her own fucking house. she thrives when lip loves her, but when he doesn’t, she goes crazy. she craves it- she’s addicted to it because she’s never been loved and the only way she knows how to get love is through her sexuality, so she will literally do anything in her power to get him to love her even if it means ruining herself.

anyways, ian and mickey may be attached, but they aren’t attached like that. they have been unhealthy and toxic, but not like that. ian and mickey are much more like “i’m your man” by mitski.

mandy was barely 19 and making a living off of being an escort, ian was 17 whoring himself out in boys town, mickey was 18 when he got raped at gun point, svetlana was younger than 10 when she was raped by her fathers rowing team, debbie was 11-12 when she realized her father will never love her the way she loves him, lip was 21 drinking himself to death just like his father, carl was 14 in juvie and fiona was 9 and taking care of her passed out father and younger siblings

I wish at least one of Mickey's older brothers had been a more prominent character for a single (silly) reason.

Imagine Fiona hearing about all the "fucking fantastic" sex the Milkoviches are having with her brothers and later on with her sister (she's still there when it happens,shut up,this is an au) and she just decides to "try them out" for herself once. Idk it's probably a throwaway one-night stand or something,but there's a scene of her stumbling away from the encounter dazed as hell from how good it was lol.

And it's just...the Milkovich and the Gallaghers are really compatible ok?

The way Shameless fans have always argued in favor of their faves and against their least favorite characters to be worse than them is so funny. You can't judge Shameless characters too hard on a moral basis. You just can't. The show is called: Shameless.

Mandy- tried to s.a. multiple times, but grew up with learned behavior around an abusive dad who s.a.'d her himself (she walks around with no pants for god's sake; that's sad because she doesn't even realize it's not normal); oh and almost forgot - ran over Karen, but had history of repressed anger problems, learned fight not flight retaliation responses, and jealousy after repeatedly being treated bad (and not just by Karen)

Fiona- made 10000+ mistakes, including almost killing her brother, but never had a childhood and was forced into parenting while never learning how to parent in the first place

Lip- #1 screw up for his own life (I guess it's his life, you can't blame him), because he hates himself and is self destructive also due to his upbringing; was angry and rude more times than I can count to Fiona, but he is angry due to his exact same feelings towards his (non) childhood

Ian- what did Ian even do...? cheat on anyone but Mickey? (edit: dang he did that too - but it doesn't count) ...be too serious for seasons 6-9?? (< jk, i love him; that's taken from real critiques.) be transphobic? (I hate, but it's valid he's uneducated - my memory is bad i don't even think he was transphobic just clueless on some things)

Carl- be the worst runner when trying to escape cops? a messed up child taxidermist?

Debbie- We can hate Debbie, jk! I do wish her storyline unfolded better, because it totally makes sense the need to grow up too fast and try to emulate Fiona (that's all I'll give her 'cause I understand, but I'm not trying to write an essay on my complicated feelings on how they could've portrayed Debbie's character arc better)

Recognize their shameless flaws. And have your faves, I agree. But to compare them and be on your moral high ground about why fans should recognize more individual actions as bad is void at the start of the argument.

Because Monica VS Frank - They both suck as much as I can recognize they both are sad, vulnerable, childlike lost causes at the core. But people always argue Monica is worse. Why, because she left? Honestly, good she spared them as opposed to mooched off and sat around doing nothing. Frank is funny (which I think is the only reason people like him more), but they're both the same level of shitty parents. WHICH IS THE POINT...to understand the kid/y.a. characters' bad trauma responses

So happy to share my latest piece for the Shameless Big Bang, inspired by Comet's extraordinary fic Where The Gay Wieners Go! It's been an absolute joy to witness the story come to life and to collaborate with Comet! (It is my first time drawing a blonde Ian and I honestly have never thought I would haha. As to the reason why he is blonde-- you have to check out the fic)

A massive shoutout to Comet @spacerockwriting for not only writing a phenomenal fic but also for the continued encouragement throughout the whole time, it's been a delight getting to know you during this event!

To give you a taste of the story's essence, here are some excerpts that hold a special place in my heart:

They’re on the L train when Ian has the two plushes in his lap. The two stuffed toys are holding hands, and Ian rests his head on Mickey's shoulder, their fingers entwined. They’re not near their stop, but Ian snuggles closer, maintaining the gentle clasp of their hands. "I love you too," Ian murmurs against the fabric of Mickey’s jacket. "Like Bonnie and Clyde, I don’t want you to drift away." Mickey's response is a soft whisper, barely audible above the rumble of the train. "You can run away with me anytime you want," he says, his gaze dropping to the ink on Ian’s arm.

If you could change Shameless storylines in a sort of "I'm the master puppeteer and I'm all knowing" kinda way, what would you change? And what would you put in place of those changes?

Example: Mickey not going to prison, since Noel is (contractually) staying in this AU Ian and Mickey don't break up at the end of season 5, what does their relationship look like in S6?

Other ideas: Kev and Vee pregnancy with her mother ends up fizzling out because in the middle of Shameless creating that storyline Shanola got pregnant and would have looked pregnant during filming so the story got changed at the last minute. -> Scrap the mother from the script and let's say that Vee being pregnant was very easy, what would they end up doing that season?

Frank should have probably died earlier, and his death should have been unrelated to either his drinking or his age. Probably after Monica, to add irony I'd say it should happen during his Francis arc, when he was sober so... S8? And actually show the Gallaghers dealing with it.

All the early romantic interests should have stayed longer and been even more fleshed out as characters beyond their relationship to their Gallagher, there's a reason ppl remember the early relationships so much more than the later ones, the Milkovich, the Jackson (as much as I don't particularly like Sheila) and Jimmy and his family are sooo weird and dysfunctional and interesting. They should have their own small story arcs every season, also, have them interact with the rest of the family.

Have the actress for S1 Mandy stay the whole show, the energy she brought to the character is soo different, if her version of the character had stayed and had still ended up with Lip I feel like she would have threatened to scalp Lip with a smile on her face before ever turning her anger and desperation on Karen.

Also, her incest/abortion arc is either treated more in-depth or it should get scrapped completely. It's NEVER brought back and it's probably one of the darkest details of S2 that really feels out of place especially in the early seasons.

I'd define the Milkovich family more: how many brothers? How many cousins? Names? It sure was convenient of the writers to just say that the Milkovich themselves don't know how many siblings and half-siblings they have so that they never have to keep them straight and they can appear and disappear and spawn new ones whenever the story requires it.

I really liked Bonnie, Carl's first crush, would 100% bring her back at some point.

Since this is an "I'm an all-powerful being making these decisions" I'd make Noel start out younger, not necessarily his character's age (Noel had a baby face that wouldn't intimidate a bunny) I'd have him start out s1 at 20, so that he can still convincingly play young in the later seasons.

Not sure what I'd change of Debbie's storyline, I'd probably bake hints of her being a lesbian basically every season and have her realize it earlier than in canon, probably bring out Sandy seasons earlier than they did.

A bit less Frank, definitely less Sheila scenes (sorry to anyone that likes her, I just don't).

A lot of those plotlines that involved a single character that ended up fizzling out without going anywhere replaced with a joint storyline with Kev and Vee or Frank and Monica or another sibling.
