Comparing Copper vs. Aluminum Welding Cables: Which is Better?
Welding cables are an essential component in any welding operation, and choosing the right material can impact performance, safety, and cost. Copper and aluminum are the two most commonly used materials for welding cables. Both have distinct advantages and disadvantages, which can make it challenging to decide which is better for your specific needs. In this blog, we’ll compare copper and aluminum welding cables, evaluating their key properties to help you make an informed decision.
1. Electrical Conductivity
Copper: Copper is known for its excellent electrical conductivity. In fact, it has the highest electrical conductivity of any metal, making it the ideal material for power transmission. The high conductivity ensures efficient current flow, which is crucial in welding applications where reliable power transfer is essential. A copper welding cable can carry more current with a smaller gauge size compared to aluminum.
Aluminum: Aluminum has lower electrical conductivity than copper, about 60% that of copper. This means that for the same current, an aluminum welding cable must have a larger diameter than a copper one to carry the same amount of electricity. While aluminum may require a larger cable size, it can still handle the necessary current, just with more material.
Verdict: Copper wins in terms of electrical conductivity, but aluminum can still be a viable option for applications where a larger cable size isn’t a concern.
2. Weight and Flexibility
Copper: Copper is a relatively dense metal, making it heavier than aluminum. This added weight can be a disadvantage, especially when cables need to be moved frequently or in applications where portability is essential. However, copper is also more flexible, which can make it easier to work with in certain installations or for longer cable runs.
Aluminum: Aluminum is much lighter than copper, often by as much as 50%. This makes aluminum welding cables easier to handle, especially for mobile welding setups where lightweight equipment is preferred. However, aluminum is less flexible than copper, which could make it harder to maneuver in tight spaces or challenging environments.
Verdict: Aluminum wins when it comes to weight, while copper offers more flexibility. Depending on your application, you might prioritize one over the other.
3. Cost
Copper: Copper is generally more expensive than aluminum due to its higher material cost. For large-scale welding operations where long lengths of cable are needed, this difference can become significant. However, because copper is more efficient in conducting electricity, a smaller gauge size can be used, which somewhat offsets the higher material cost.
Aluminum: Aluminum is less expensive than copper, making it an attractive option for those looking to reduce material costs. Even though you may need a larger cable diameter for the same conductivity, aluminum’s overall cost remains lower than copper. This makes aluminum an excellent choice for budget-conscious projects.
Verdict: If cost is a major concern, aluminum has the advantage. However, you must also account for the need for larger cable sizes to compensate for the lower conductivity.
4. Durability and Corrosion Resistance
Copper: Copper is highly resistant to corrosion, especially when coated. This makes it an ideal choice for welding cables exposed to outdoor or harsh environments. Additionally, copper’s durability means it can withstand wear and tear over long periods, extending the cable’s overall lifespan.
Aluminum: Aluminum is more susceptible to corrosion, particularly in moist environments. However, aluminum cables are often coated or treated to improve their resistance to environmental factors. While less durable than copper, modern aluminum cables have become more robust thanks to these coatings.
Verdict: Copper is the better option for durability and corrosion resistance, particularly for harsh environments where long-term exposure is a concern.
5. Heat Resistance and Safety
Copper: Copper has a higher melting point than aluminum, making it more resistant to overheating. In welding applications, where high currents are common, copper’s superior heat resistance can enhance safety by reducing the risk of overheating or melting under heavy electrical loads.
Aluminum: Aluminum has a lower melting point and can be more prone to heat buildup, which could lead to safety concerns in high-current applications. While this isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker, it’s something to consider, particularly in demanding welding environments.
Verdict: Copper is safer in terms of heat resistance, making it a better choice for heavy-duty welding where overheating is a concern.
6. Applications
Copper: Copper welding cables are ideal for heavy-duty industrial applications, high-current welding machines, and environments requiring durability and flexibility. Industries like construction, automotive, and shipbuilding often rely on copper cables for their performance and reliability.
Aluminum: Aluminum welding cables are well-suited for light to medium welding applications. They are often used in temporary setups or mobile operations where weight and cost are prioritized over maximum conductivity and durability.
Verdict: Copper is better for industrial, high-performance applications, while aluminum is a good choice for lighter, more mobile projects.
Conclusion: Which Is Better?
Ultimately, the choice between copper and aluminum welding cables depends on your specific requirements. If you need maximum electrical conductivity, flexibility, and durability, copper is the better choice, particularly for heavy-duty applications. However, if cost and weight are your primary concerns, aluminum is a viable alternative that offers excellent performance for less demanding welding operations.

AOT character & their personal fashion styles
characters : Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackerman, Armin Arlert, Jean Kirschtein, Connie Springer, Sasha Braus, Marco Bodt
warning: all of these are just purely based off of my personal insight and views of the characters and how i think they’d dress today
🪩🥡🪐🎸🎧
Eren Jaeger: 🎱🌪️🩻⛓️
based off of season 4 Eren
i picture Eren in todays world really rocking with a minimalist street style
he’s all for comfort and breathability in his clothing and his style reflects that
a closet full of loose fitting boxy t-shirts
LOVES the cold months so he can layer his hoodies and leather jackets
while also sporting the slutty tightly fitted black shirt grey sweat pant combo every now and then
maybe even just walking out his apartment with a wife pleaser and baggy jeans on as a fit alone
all paired with sneakers, small silver hoops, and a chain of some sort

Mikasa Ackerman: 🍒💿📷🃏
we all know for a fact that Mikasa can DRESS
she just has an eye for fashion and has a unique style of her own
one that isn’t over the top, in terms of being a spectacle, but just well put together and tailored to HER. a girl you 110% give a second glance
she is a girlie who LOVES wearing any skirt whether it be long, midi, mini or knee length she LOVES them
most of her pieces are pretty free flowing with lots of different silhouettes
absolutely loves a good leather boot, pair of mary janes, or platform loafers
she literally could wear a trash bag and make it look like it’s the next trend
and has a huge collection of baggus

Armin Arlert: 🎧📘🍵☁️
Armin will literally never be free of the soft light academia aesthetic
the cable knit sweaters, soft cardigans, and sweater vests will forever have a hold on him
but what college boy Armin loves more than anything is a good quarter zip or quarter button up
or a nice casual white and blue striped button up
almost all of his clothing is soft and warm materials
definitely withholds the cute boy in the library title

Jean Kirschtein: 🪐👁️🗨️⚡️🌉
will live and die on the hill that Jean is a Carthartt guy
his look is a casual-relaxed but clean one
he’s all for clothing that is durable and will last him forever
Jean’s style is honestly super basic but NOT boring
although Jean’s style isn’t one that is made to make it hard to look away from its one that really just compliments him well
loves a good hefty Dickies or Carthartt jacket, basic white t-shirt, or a loose button up over a tank top
while wearing a variety of rings, with small hoops and a chain
his clothes compliment his strongly built and lengthy body well, which is why although they are basic, it isn’t boring

Connie Springer: 🎧💽☄️🩻
Connie is a literal fashionista
he probably is tiktok famous for his fit check videos and adventures at the thrift stores
the street style aesthetic was MADE for Connie
knows how to put pieces that may not look ideal together into a cohesive fit
LOVES JORTS and swears he made them trendy again
and wearing jerseys of teams he has no clue of , but it’s for the fit so who cares

Sasha Braus: 🍰🪩🗽🧸
the DEFINITION of downtown girl or coming of age movie in a city aesthetic
Sasha lives for the nostalgia of 90s pieces and it shows in her clothing
comfort is also a huge factor that plays into Sasha’s outfits
color is another component that makes Sasha’s outfits HER outfits
LOVES a good brown leather jacket
Sasha honestly though has a hard time sticking to just ONE specific style and will wear whatever feels good for her

Marco Bodt: 🍙🪴♠️🍊
Marco is a soft boy at heart but he’s traded in the traditional sweaters vests for hardy collared jackets
he absolutely LOVES PLAID
and loves layering his button ups with his worn out thrifted jackets
has a more warm palette in terms of colors and leans more towards earthy tones
super casual in his shoes though sticking to good tried and true high top converse, sambas, or loafers if he's feeling fancy

SevenMileMountain - MIDI Pitch Bend and Modulation Wheels
"A dedicated Pitch Bend / Modulation controller with traditional wheels. This unit connects via USB to your MIDI devices, allowing you to add Pitch Bend to synths which lack them.
The wheels are about the same width as a full sized piano key (just shy of 1"). The left wheel, Pitch Bend, is spring loaded, so it returns to center when released. The right wheel, Modulation, does not automatically return to center. Both have their center points marked with a raised tab.
The wheels are enclosed in a cube 2.5" square (65 mm) and will appear as "Seeed XIAO M0" in your DAW. As it's programmed specifically as PB/MD, no other setup should be required.
As of August 30, 2024:
More Colors: I'm back to making both black and white versions of the wheel.
New Firmware: Better handling of PB deadzone and ranging. All prior purchases can be updated at no cost.
As of April 12, 2024:
Now available in All Black.
Top cover has been simplified.
Further improvements with the wheels and mechanisms.
As of February 20, 2024:
The Pitch Bend wheel now has a new mechanism. It is much "snappier" than before. The wheel now rolls on a ball bearing and uses low physical resistance sensor, allowing the spring to provide quicker "return to center" power.
All WHEELs now include TRS MIDI. This allows connections to legacy keyboards (DIN-5) with a simple adapter (sold separately). It is a 3.5mm (1/8") Type A TRS jack (aka "headphone cable") wired to the MIDI 2018 Standard. If you use Serial MIDI you will still need to supply power via the USB connection. The device outputs USB MIDI and Serial MIDI at the same time.
The MIDI Channel can be changed (from 1 to 16) using a settings button on the back. The default Channel is 1.
Firmware can now be updated in the field. I can tweak settings and send you custom code to run on your device.

Radio Shack Microcomputer Newsletter January 1978
The second occasional piece of self-promotion from Radio Shack talked up TRS-80 accessories due to arrive in the next few months for the purpose of enhancing their computer from something inexpensive that could run simple programs into something a small business might look at it. The Expansion Interface that was to be the centre of that upgraded system got pictured on the first page, although passing signals from the microprocessor to two-thirds of the system RAM and disk drives via an unshielded ribbon cable might have contributed to the infamous expansion upon "TRS"...

Random gear stuff from EUROPE TOUR24 FROM DEPRESSION TO [mode of Withering to death & UROBOROS]
No ESP Throbber for Kaoru during Toguro, as they had a limited number of guitars allowed for this tour abroad (he used the blue JZH instead if I remember correctly)
Speaking of Kaoru, he brought his custom ESP D-KV (the brown/yellow-ish one), I wasn't expecting that one!
I saw Toshiya use Finger Ease-like string spray multiple times during interludes, this helps reducing the friction on the strings and playing smoother guitar/bass-lines :)
Die brought the black Morris acoustic guitar instead of the red one, they're the same model so it didn't matter but it was nice to see a non-red guitar in his arsenal :)
The sunburst ESP D-TR [RU-DRIVE Arch] bass (aka the best bass in my totally unbiased opinion <3) was damaged at the beginning of the tour, we could see the scratch at the Paris shows :( (he mainly used this bass for almost all of Mode of WTD, as well as for Akuro no oka at the end of all shows, as a substitute for the white ESP D-TR he usually uses for this song)
Shinya used a partial brown-ish Pearl drumkit (pictures/tag to come) with Remo & Signia toms, Sabian cymbals and at least one Evans drumhead (that he threw in the crowd at the end of Paris day 2). This is a different drumkit than his usual all-white/see-through one; as they're touring in Japan in April-June, he perhaps didn't want to risk damaging his regular kit.
Something I somehow never noticed before: all their guitars/basses are now cable-less! I don't really know how that works sound-wise but it does wonders in terms of stage management & interactions :)

Ah. I have now received my first “u mad?” text from my Tr*mper dad.
As much as I wanted to cling to the election being rigged (attempts were made, primarily at the misinformation level imo but anyway) he is proof of how someone like Tr*mp won.
He votes based on what his evangelical pastor says, even if he wrings his hands about it because there is a moral compass inside of him that’s spinning like Sonya’s compass in the 95 Mortal Kombat movie.
The only reason he isn’t an outwardly hostile man about this is that he simply doesn’t have access to the radicalization tools many others fell victim to (or ran to with open arms in a field of daisies spent assault rifle casings). He has no home internet, no computer, no cable package.
I can only imagine how much more horrible he’d be if that was the case.
He’s moping and sad and doesn’t want me to be angry with him for just doing what’s in his heart. Motherfucker, you voted to strip the rights away from everyone who isn’t a rich old white man. That doesn’t start and stop with your queer daughter but it sure as shit includes me.
And I KNOW why, despite his hesitation and regret now, he’ll do the same thing again, should we ever have another election that isn’t just for show. He believes this is destined. That the rapture is imminent and if he’s a good enough Christian he’ll get sucked up in the Jesusnado and too bad for the rest of us unrepentant saps.
At least I can take solace in knowing my mom is likewise ripping him a new asshole. (They have been divorced since 1984; she gives no fucks.)

Carstober Prompt 21: Crash
Trigger warning: harassment, attempted suicide
Excerpt from my fanfic. Year is 1937, and Doc's mom, Annette, isn't dealing with life very well.
Annette left home quietly, not even bothering to close the garage door.
Sam was still asleep after their most recent siring attempt; the act taking a lot more out of him than usual…which was surprising since she was, once again, leaving his side with an empty plasma condenser.
Ahhh yes, her husband: the largest, strongest truck this side of the Mississippi. He could carry loads all across the country, but he could never seem to drive one home.
She snarled at her own, bitter wit and coasted to the end of the driveway.
It was late in the evening, and the moon was just starting to crest the pines. Despite it being fall, there was a wintery chill in the air.
She took a deep breath, letting the cool air cycle through her TR system.
What now…? She thought, sadly. She had already tried talking Sam around to visiting the clinic and, when that didn’t work, bringing up the topic to her in-laws.
After that…the harassment got worse. Most of the Longhauler women wouldn’t talk to her. The men were more sympathetic…mostly on account of her being a damn-good mechanic—you didn’t want to offend the person changing out your piston belts, after all. But, even so, they only made small talk. Her mother-in-law had become especially cruel, gossiping about Annette to anyone who’d listen, slapping Annette with snide, degrading comments when they were alone, introducing Annette at parties and social gatherings as her “barren” daughter-in-law.
Despite all of this, Annette had tried her best to remain positive. She forced herself to get up every morning…with no partner to snuggle against, sang to herself at dinner to beat back the oppressive silence of their empty home, cleaned and tended the garden to keep herself busy when she wasn’t working and did her best to smile and give her clients the best automotive care possible…despite hearing them call her things like “gold-digger” behind her boot.
She’d been maintaining, thanks mostly to her father and brothers. Her father, especially, did everything that he could to make her feel loved and appreciated…but, ultimately, he couldn’t solve her problems. He couldn’t make Sam get his siring cable repaired. He couldn’t stop Claire from spreading gossip to the rest of the townsfolk. At the end of the day, the best he could do was lean against her and tell her that it would get better.
Somehow.
Someday.
Tears started pooling in the corner of her eyes. She had been clinging to this notion, whispering it to herself like a personal mantra whenever doubt began to rear its ugly head.
It’ll get better. It’ll get better. Someday, It’ll get better...
Will it, though?
Annette gritted her teeth and started her engine to try to banish the thought from her mind…but it clung to her like cheap grease. Will things actually get better?
Her fuel pump squeezed painfully, fearfully and she gunned her engine, kicking up gravel and dust as she turned out onto the road, heading south, flicking on her headlights only as an afterthought.
Annette and Sam lived in a large, converted barn about fifteen minutes from town. As she sped down the old logging road, the terrain grew more rugged, with tall black pine and oak replacing the smaller saplings from the reclaimed Dawson Woods. The road began to switchback, ducking around steep exposures of sedimentary rock, but always gaining in elevation.
She was driving more recklessly than she probably should have been…but she couldn’t help it.
For years she had successfully managed use the “it’ll get better” mantra as a wall to block out any thoughts that might argue otherwise. Working long hours at the shop and taking on extra work from the clinic helped to reinforce it.
And up until tonight, the integrity of said wall had never been undermined.
Annette reached the top of a prominent, east-west trending hill that the locals called Oracle ridge and paused to catch her breath.
You’re not sure…are you?
Annette closed her eyes, fighting back tears.
Sam was only home for a week this time, so Annette wasn’t expecting much, surely not another siring attempt. But…he offered…because he knew that having a child meant the world to his wife, and he was willing to keep trying in the hopes that they’d somehow be successful. It was the first time in their two years of marriage that he’d done something like that, made an effort to show her that he cared, a rare expression of vulnerability when he had always been forced to be “strong” and “fearless.” She eagerly accepted his offer, and as they made love, the hope that she saw in his eyes and the compassion that she felt in his touch rejuvenated her, made her think that there was still a chance. That the planets and the stars would align just for them and they could have their happy ending.
And then she waited. Hours and hours of waiting with giddy anticipation, faithfully hoping for a factory notification.
She was going to be a mother! It was going to happen this time!
But…it didn’t.
And, for the first time in her life, the voices on the other side of the wall began to make themselves known, hissing and spitting at her through a spiderweb of newly formed cracks.
Wiper fluid was leaking freely down her fenders and her breath came in ragged sobs.
It’s not going to get better.
Annette shook her front end, trying to dislodge the thought.
It’s NOT going to get better.
Her eyes shot open and she revved her engine. It will! It HAS to!
Sam won’t go to the doctor. His parents won’t force him to go because they believe that you and your father are lying to them. So, logically, every future siring attempt will fail…and your life will always be just miserable as it is at present. It’s an exercise in futility if there ever was one.
No… No it’s not… Annette’s throat constricted
It’s hopeless.
Annette froze.
Hopeless.
The wall shattered. All the rogue thoughts that she’d tried to keep bottled up broke free and surged through her brain with the force of a tidal wave.
If nothing is going to change, what’s the point in trying? In caring? You care so much about other people…but they don’t seem to care much for you, do they?
Panicking, Annette gunned her engine and tore down the ridge. Her model wasn’t particularly fast on account of its weight, but the steep slope combined with her Cadillac standard V8 made sure that when she hit the first switchback, her tires had to really scrabble for traction. She cleared the curve, but just barely.
You’re pathetic. A waste of metal desperately clinging to false hopes and yearning for a life that you’ll never have.
The ghostly outlines of trees blurred in her peripheral vision. Another switchback ahead, not as sharp as the first one, but even so she could feel the literal edge of the road under her rear tires, the loose scree falling away to tumble down into the river below.
Really, is running all you can do?
Her eyes narrowed. Another switchback. Another close call, though this one came with a jolt of pain and a loud snap as she clipped a rock with her left back tire. The snap must have been her coil spring, because from that moment onward, her body seemed to list to that side and she’d bottom out on every dip and rise in the road.
A Sudden dip. Something large and sharp caught her undercarriage and tore the metal; the pain made her eyes water, but rather than slow down, she gunned it harder. Red line. Her engine was straining under the stress, and she was starting to feel nauseous as the hot metal began to effect nearby systems.
Annette, you’re a coward. You always have been. You could have stood up to your in-laws, but instead you kept your chassis low. You’re pathetic. So pathetic, that your family just stood by in silence while you suffered.
No! My father stood up for me!
Your father stood up for the Glenrunner name. Not you.
Annette counter steered the last curve, almost skidding into the river, but her flattening left rear tire helped keep her on the road. There was another sharp pain, this time further up into the axle; she could feel hydraulic fluid running down the inside of the tire.
She was on a straightaway, now, heading for Timing-Belt Bridge. There was a sharp turn on the other side, the sort of turn you had to make at less than twenty miles per hour, otherwise you’d end up hitting a wall of limestone.
Time seemed to slow as a deadly realization sunk its claws into her brain.
By the time her tires tore into the concrete of the bridge, she had reached sixty miles per hour. Even with her left rear tire about to give out, she would still be doing sixty as she hit the curve on the other side.
No. More. Pain.
Her engine screamed. Her vision was blacking out and she was starting to taste oil and other vital fluids in her mouth…
And then…the lights. Right in front of her. Head-on.
Instinct kicked in. She slammed on her brakes, but her momentum kept her going forward.

I'M IN LOVE - yeah I'm a believer!
1963 #Gibson#GA79 RVT Stereo amplifier (with 1972 #ES355 Stereo guitar).
If you are like me you never paid much attention to these vaguely funny-looking mid 60s Gibson stereo amps. To me they never looked like "real" rock n roll amplifiers, they looked more like the console record player my parents had in their wood-paneled mid mod living room back in the 60s. Part music box...but mostly furniture. I keep wanting to flip up the top and throw on a Neil Diamond LP!
But, I was dropping off some amps for servicing with my amp tech @marshalllespaulfan yesterday, and he had this one in his shop, in from another customer, and we tried it out with my Stereo 355...and all of a sudden EVERYTHING in my life made perfect sense!
This amp was MADE for this guitar...and I mean that quite literally. You plug it in using a special stereo "TRS" cable, switch the amp to "stereo" mode (although you can also use it in "mono" mode with a regular guitar and cable) and it's wired to give you the neck pickup in the left channel and the bridge pickup in the right channel. So you can set different volume, EQs, and effects for each pickup! Once each channel is dialed in, you can just flip your pickup selector between a grungy dark rhythm sound and a bright overdriven lead sound. OR...play them both at the same time on the center position, and have reverb and trem on the underlying bassy tone, but a crisp, clear, un-effected bright tone cutting through at the same time! It's GENIUS.
Because of its funky stereo wiring, my 355 has never been very heavily played 'round 'ere. The best you can do with it on a "regular" amp is plug its stereo cable into the two inputs of the same amp and even then it just sounds like a "normal" guitar. Without a TRS cable, only the neck pickup works on a "normal" guitar cable. So it's essentially useless. But with an amp like this, you can make it do SO MUCH!
I think I have found my next amp acquisition "quest"! 😉
