The Table of Showbread
23 “You shall make a table of acacia wood. Two cubits shall be its length, a cubit its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height. 24 You shall overlay it with pure gold and make a molding of gold around it. 25 And you shall make a rim around it a handbreadth wide, and a molding of gold around the rim. 26 And you shall make for it four rings of gold, and fasten the rings to the four corners at…

I found a book of bread recipes today and apart from many breads I'm drooling over, it also has an entire chapter on skådebröd (usually translated as showbread but not the same thing as the Jewish variety) - a bread in Swedish tradition that's primarily thought of as decorative.
Some skådebröd would also be eaten, like the såkaka (sowing cake) that was baked around Christmas and used to decorate the Christmas table. In some regions it was crumbled up and sown with the year's grain come spring, and in others it was eaten by the sowers and their horses to bring luck to that year's harvest.
Here are some of my favourite skådebröd from the book:

And I had to share this preserved såkaka from Vänersborgs museum (they have plaster casts of a few others as well but this seems to be the bread itself):

God Smites Israel Before Judah
10 But as for us, Hashem is Eloheinu, and we have not forsaken Him, and the Kohanim, mesharetim unto Hashem, are the Bnei Aharon, and the Levi'im do their work; 11 And they burn unto Hashem baboker baboker and baerev baerev olot and ketoret sammim; the array of lechem is also set in order upon the shulchan hatahor; and the menorah hazahav with the nerot thereof is lit erev ba'erev, for we are the Shomrim of the Mishmeret Hashem Eloheinu; but ye have forsaken Him. 12 And, hinei, HaElohim Himself is with us as Rosh, and His Kohanim have their chatzotzerot to sound the alarm against you. O Bnei Yisroel, fight ye not against Hashem Elohei Avoteichem; for ye shall not prosper.
10 But as for us, Yahweh is our God, and we have not forsaken Him; and the sons of Aaron are ministering to Yahweh as priests, and the Levites are in their work. 11 And every morning and evening they burn to Yahweh burnt offerings and fragrant incense, and the showbread is set on the clean table, and the golden lampstand with its lamps is ready to light every evening; for we keep the responsibility given by Yahweh our God, but you have forsaken Him. 12 And behold, God is with us at our head and His priests with the signal trumpets to raise the shout of war against you. O sons of Israel, do not fight against Yahweh, the God of your fathers, for you will not succeed.” — 2 Chronicles 13:10-12 | Orthodox Jewish Bible (OJB) and Legacy Standard Bible (LSB) Orthodox Jewish Bible Copyright © 2002, 2003, 2008, 2010, 2011 by Artists for Israel International and Legacy Standard Bible Copyright ©2021 by The Lockman Foundation. the world is sick and all of us in it so fight the cancer fight the cancer don't bow your head to it
the world is sick but it won't die from it so fight the cancer fight the cancer don't bow your head to it
i'm afraid that i am me and i had no say in this i dare to be self-aware when ignorance is bliss i never do the things i want i do what i don't want to i'm fortified for treachery and hopelessly untrue
remember when we were all small? with stained-glass windows stretched up the walls we listened to words we could not understand as they echoed through the church halls they stacked us up conveniently and fed us from their tables they deduced what we should know because we weren't able and as we grow we feel we know the truth of where we've been satiated by their oaths dragged on the heels of holy men
lately i have found frustration among the incongruence a movement of peasants and pacifists drowning in patriotic affluence i feel as though i should do something but i'm staggered by the ramifications they've baptized the empire into the church and heralded its sanctification
sometimes i feel as though i'm taking place outside of myself but i'm afraid that i am me i am me i'm me i'm me
"blessed are the meek" succumbs to "might makes right" "turn the other cheek" succumbs to pre-emptive strike "love your enemies" is fossilized beneath the frozen tundra and "blessed are the poor in spirit" is devoured by "God bless America"
you file the children into the classrooms, make them stand and say an oath and when we ask "should i love God or my country?" you smile and tell us "both." we've hidden the God we claim we serve and driven him beneath the floorboards but i can still hear this still, small voice and i can't take it anymore

1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
2 Corinthians 4:8-9 Paul wrote, “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed."
Psalm 16:2 I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.”
Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
1 Peter 1:3 …He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead
1 John 2:5-6 …This is how we know we are in Him: 6 Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did
May you continually seek the direction and leading of the Spirit for the guidance and wisdom to do God's work, which takes place in the hearts and minds of people, who, becoming living stones, shaped in the quarry, will be fitted together without the sound of a tool, to form the abode of our Lord and our God. Exodus 37
May you understand that, just as in the wilderness of testing and during the time of conquest, when the bronze altar of sacrifice, the golden table of showbread, the golden altar of incense, and the golden ark of the covenant, moving with the people, had no wheels to be pulled by beasts, only rings to be carried by poles on men's shoulders, so now also God commits to His Body the care and responsibility of bringing His forgiveness, truth, worship, and presence to all. Exodus 37
May you be willing to turn from seeking the approval and perspective of others to believing the acceptance and description of God's Word and His Spirit which bear witness that you are re-created in the image of God's Son. Exodus 38
May you rejoice that you no longer must look into the reflecting brass of God's judgment to see what to expect, but may now, having been transformed by the Redeemer, look at God's reflecting love from the pure cleansing water after the washing of the Word. Exodus 38
May you be steadfast in seeking the Lord, trusting and believing His promises, so that when the shaking of your world begins, and the brilliance of God's light breaks into the darkness, opening the door you seek and bringing words of hope, you will not be overcome with fear and faint dead away as those who do not know Him, but will rejoice and immediately obey as those who know His love and have experienced His forgiving acceptance. Matthew 28
May you not be so captivated by men's traditions and your own understanding that you persist in fighting the work of God, even in the face of His miraculous love. Matthew 28
May you be willing to step forth in obedience, bringing the teaching and the testimony of Christ and the kingdom of God to all who will be discipled, for you will find that the Lord will be with you in all authority and power to ultimately overcome any doubts, resistance, and attacks, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28
Will you join Me? Will you draw near and watch with Me in prayer and intercession for those I love? Will you allow Me to express My sorrow through you in travail for the pain so many who are named by My name are facing? Will you allow Me to give you a spirit of prayer which will draw you to the throne of God with weeping and heaviness of heart over the captivity of My people, so many of whom are bound in chains and held in darkness? Will you receive My heart of concern for those who lack shepherds and are wandering on the mountainside without pastures, without rest, without protection, ever fearful, never knowing peace, unkempt, harried, beset upon by those influenced by My enemy? The burden is great, My child, and the weight is crushing. You cannot carry it on your own. Join with Me, wait with Me. What is impossible for flesh, even when it is willing, is possible for God, for His Spirit is strong, and mighty to the pulling down of strongholds, binding the strong man, and plundering the enemy's camp, retrieving the lost ones, the weak ones, the young and defenseless ones who were stolen and enslaved. But first, My love, wait with Me before the throne, bringing the request to the Father, for this is where the work is done. Will you join Me?
May you learn the fear of the Lord, for it will keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies, causing you to turn from wickedness and do good, and seek peace by pursuing it, and thus your love of life and your desire to see many good days will be fulfilled. Psalm 34
May you learn the importance of trusting and fearing the Lord, for if you watch your tongue, keep your lips from lying, turn from all known sin, spend your time in doing good and work hard at living peacefully with everyone, you will have a long, good life. Psalm 34
May you seek the presence of the Lord, for His eyes are on the righteous and His ears attentive to their cry, because the face of the Lord is against those who do evil to wipe the memory of them from the earth. Psalm 34
May you cry to the Lord for help, for He will give you His attention since the eyes of the Lord are intently watching all who live good lives, and he will save you from all your troubles, but He has made up His mind to wipe out even the memory of evil men from the earth. Psalm 34
May the Lord hear you when you cry out, and deliver you from all your troubles, for He is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34
May you be humbly sorry for your sins, for the Lord will rescue you since He is close to those whose hearts are breaking. Psalm 34
May you be rescued by the Lord for He delivers a righteous man from all his troubles, though they be many, and protects all his bones that none of them will be broken. Psalm 34
May you serve the Lord, for He will redeem His servants, and everyone who takes refuge in Him will be freely pardoned. Psalm 34
May you run to Lord, for He redeems His servants, and no one will be condemned who takes refuge in Him. Psalm 34

SCRIPTURE READINGS for Sunday September 10th, 2023
Hebrews 9:1-7 (Epistle, Theotokos)
Then indeed, even the first covenant had ordinances of divine service and the earthly sanctuary. For a tabernacle was prepared: the first part, in which was the lampstand, the table, and the showbread, which is called the sanctuary; and behind the second veil, the part of the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of All, which had the golden censer and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which were the golden pot that had the manna, Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant; and above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail. Now when these things had been thus prepared, the priests always went into the first part of the tabernacle, performing the services. But into the second part the high priest went alone once a year, not without blood, which he offered for himself and for the people’s sins committed in ignorance.
Galatians 6:11-18 (Epistle, Sunday Before)
Brothers and Sisters, see with what large letters I have written to you with my own hand! As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh, these would compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. For not even those who are circumcised keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation. And as many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God. From now on let no one trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus. Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
2 Corinthians 1:21-2:4 (Epistle)
Brothers and Sisters, He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. Moreover I call God as witness against my soul, that to spare you I came no more to Corinth. Not that we have dominion over your faith, but are fellow workers for your joy; for by faith you stand. But I determined this within myself, that I would not come again to you in sorrow. For if I make you sorrowful, then who is he who makes me glad but the one who is made sorrowful by me? And I wrote this very thing to you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow over those from whom I ought to have joy, having confidence in you all that my joy is the joy of you all. For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you, with many tears, not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have so abundantly for you.
Luke 10:38-42; 11:27-28 (Gospel, Theotokos)
At that time, as they went on their way, the Lord entered a village; and a woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things; one thing is needful. Mary has chosen the good portion, which shall not be taken away from her." As he said this, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, "Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts that you sucked!" But he said, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"
John 3:13-17 (Gospel, Sunday Before)
No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
Matthew 22:1-14 (Gospel)
At that time, the Lord spoke to them again by parables and said: “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.”’ But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business. And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them. But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’ So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests. But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Symbolism of food dreams in the Old Testament
Food plays a significant symbolic role in many parts of the Old Testament of the Bible. These symbolic representations often convey deeper spiritual, moral, and cultural meanings. Here are some common examples of symbolism of food dreams in the Old Testament:
Manna: In the book of Exodus, the Israelites are sustained in the wilderness by manna, a miraculous bread-like substance that falls from heaven. This can be seen as a symbol of God's provision and sustenance for his people, highlighting their dependence on Him for their daily needs.
The Passover Meal: The Passover meal, which includes unleavened bread and lamb, is a central part of the Old Testament. It symbolizes God's deliverance of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. The blood of the lamb on the doorposts serves as a symbol of protection.
The Bread of the Presence (Showbread): In the Tabernacle and later in the Temple, there was a special table with twelve loaves of bread, known as the "Bread of the Presence" or "Showbread." This symbolized God's presence among His people and the sustenance He provides.
Fasting: Fasting, the deliberate abstention from food, is often used as a symbol of repentance, humility, and seeking God's guidance. Prophets and individuals in the Old Testament frequently engaged in fasting as a way to draw closer to God and seek His forgiveness or favor.
Forbidden Foods: In the Old Testament, dietary laws were given to the Israelites, specifying which foods were clean and unclean. These laws were not only about physical health but also about spiritual purity and obedience to God's commands. Avoiding certain foods symbolized separation from pagan practices and rituals.
The Promised Land Flowing with Milk and Honey: The concept of the Promised Land flowing with "milk and honey" symbolizes a land of abundance and prosperity that God promised to the Israelites. It is a representation of the blessings God would bestow upon His people.
Feasts and Sacrifices: Various feasts and sacrifices in the Old Testament, such as the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost), Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot), and animal sacrifices, had food-related elements. These symbolized worship, gratitude, and dedication to God.
The Vine and the Fig Tree: In the Old Testament, the vine and the fig tree are often used metaphorically to represent prosperity, peace, and the blessings of God. These symbols are associated with the hope of a better future.
The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil: In the story of Adam and Eve, the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil is a symbol of disobedience and the consequences of sin. Eating the forbidden fruit led to the fall of humanity.
Food as a Metaphor for God's Word: In passages like Psalm 19:10, God's word is likened to honey, signifying its sweetness and nourishment for the soul.
These are just a few examples of how food is used symbolically in the Old Testament to convey spiritual and moral messages. Food and eating often serve as tangible, relatable metaphors for deeper theological concepts and the relationship between God and His people.

2 Nephi Chapter 13. "The Stay."
Tumblr media
Judah and Jerusalem will be punished for their disobedience—The Lord pleads for and judges His people—The daughters of Zion are cursed and tormented for their worldliness—Compare Isaiah 3. About 559–545 B.C.
1 aFor behold, the Lord, the Lord of Hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem, and from Judah, the stay and the staff, the whole staff of bread, and the whole stay of water—
2 The amighty man, and the man of bwar, the judge, and the prophet, and the cprudent, and the ancient;
We don't want God to do this. We don't want as the verse says next, to pretend to be mightier than God, more prophetic, more prudent or ancient. The Torah and Talmud elucidate upon God's generosity and might over and over, these are undeniable as are their questions why we pretend to be prideful when we are wrecking everything.
God hides things from us, but not the answers we need to shy away from violent deconstructive behavior. If we go into the Temple, into prayer and study of the Torah and ask him to show us how to behave mightily in the face of the habitual shortcomings of our Jewish faith He will tell us. To show an interest in this is to Face North:
The Talmud10 tells us, “If a person wants to become rich, he should point his feet to the north when he prays.” The table was on the north side of the Temple, and the showbread was a perpetual reminder of G‑d’s generosity, and the channel for abundance and prosperity.
3 The captain of fifty, and the honorable man, and the counselor, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent orator.
The Captain of the Fifty successfully completes 7 days 7 times plus 1 Day and becomes a sentient human being capable of managing his affairs and being a devoted, faithful, loyal and trustworthy component in those of others:
The number 50 is the distinguished number of transcendence. The count up to 50 is composed of two essential and distinct stages.
The first phase is the step-by-step progression rising from 1 up to 49. As the square of 7 (7²=49), 49 denotes the complete cycle within the physical universe.1 This is a natural development, one that reaches the extremities of the outer boundaries. This may be the furthest limit as far as nature is concerned – but it is not the endpoint. But the ultimate destination of a Jew is his arrival at the second phase – one where he somehow manages the supernatural leap from 49 to arrive at the transcendental quality of 50.
The progression from 49 to 50 has, as its precedent, the stepping stone from 7 to 8. The soul is likened to the 7th center of holiness within the body that sanctifies the 6 directions of the physical world toward spiritual pursuits.2 Through this process, the soul is able to elevate itself, and the body with it, toward perfection.3 In number terms, the 7 is elevated beyond to reach 8, which is synonymous with entry onto the higher transcendental plane.4 And the arrival at 50 similarly marks the entry into this exalted state.
From the child comes an adult, as the Book of Isaiah and Book of Mormon state:
4 And I will give children unto them to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.
5 And the people shall be aoppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbor; the child shall behave himself bproudly against the ancient, and the base against the honorable.
6 When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, and shall say: Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let not this aruin come under thy hand—
7 In that day shall he swear, saying: I will not be a healer; for in my house there is neither bread nor clothing; make me not a ruler of the people.
8 For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen, because their tongues and their doings have been against the Lord, to provoke the eyes of his glory.
9 The show of their countenance doth witness against them, and doth declare their sin to be even as Sodom "Burnt, tyrannized", and they cannot hide it. Wo unto their souls, for they have rewarded evil unto themselves!
10 Say unto the righteous that it is well with them; for they shall beat the fruit of their doings.
11 Wo unto the wicked, for they shall perish; for the reward of their hands shall be upon them!
12 And my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they who alead thee cause thee to err and destroy the way of thy paths.
13 The Lord standeth up to aplead, and standeth to judge the people.
14 The Lord will enter into ajudgment with the ancients of his people and the princes thereof; for ye have eaten up the bvineyard and the spoil of the cpoor in your houses.
15 What mean ye? Ye abeat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor, saith the Lord God of Hosts.
16 Moreover, the Lord saith: Because the daughters of Zion are ahaughty, and bwalk with stretched-forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet—
17 Therefore the Lord will smite with a ascab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will bdiscover their secret parts.
18 In that aday the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments, and cauls, and round tires like the moon;
19 The chains and the bracelets, and the mufflers;
20 The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the ear-rings;
21 The rings, and nose jewels;
22 The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping-pins;
23 The glasses, and the fine linen, and hoods, and the veils.
24 And it shall come to pass, instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle, a rent; and instead of well set hair, abaldness; and instead of a stomacher, a girding of sackcloth; bburning instead of cbeauty.
25 Thy men shall fall by the sword and thy mighty in the war.
26 And her agates shall lament and bmourn; and she shall be desolate, and shall csit upon the ground.
Where state and church power are used to speak out against the civil rights of the population and the poor and oppressed increase in number, the regalia of religion are automatically absent.
One cannot enter the temple and play around with the vessels, the bread, the water and wine and pray and sing then leave and watch rabid feral politicians add another bad day to history.
Each of the aforementioned ornaments, when used properly help humanity reverberate with the Words of God walk over their dead bodies into the future:
v17. Scabs are leprosy which is the same thing as blasphemy against God. To use the power of the mouth to encourage poverty and tyranny is to wear a scab on your head instead of a crown.
18. Tinkling ornaments, and cauls, and round tires like the moon
Rabbi Israel Baal Shem Tov was once asked: Why do some of your disciples make such a ruckus while praying? They shout, they wave their arms, they virtually throw themselves about the room. Is this the appropriate way to commune with the Almighty?
The founder of Chassidism replied: Have you ever seen a drowning man? He shouts, he thrashes his arms, he struggles with the waves that threaten to claim him. Throughout the day, a person is swamped by the demands of his material existence; prayer is the attempt to break free of the engulfing waters that threaten to extinguish his spiritual life.
True, a noisy service of G‑d is an indication that the person has not yet fully “arrived.” Had he succeeded in transcending the mundane, his endeavor to draw close to the Almighty would be a tranquil one—his soul would strive upwards with a silent, frictionless flame. His tumultuous struggle reflects the fact that his spiritual self has not yet become the seat of his identity—that his “natural” self still lies with the material externalities of life. Nevertheless, this is a healthy sign: he has not succumbed. He is straining to free himself of the confining envelope of his material being, straining to rise above his presently defined self.
So the bells on the hem of the kohen gadol’s robe are an indispensable part of his divine service. “Its sound shall be heard when he enters into the holy area before G‑d,” commands the Torah, “lest he die.” Were he to disclaim the lowly “hem” of the nation he represents, he would be violating the very essence of his mission. Were his service of the Almighty not to embody the struggles of his imperfect brethren, it would have no place in G‑d’s inner sanctum.
19 The chains and the bracelets, and the mufflers;
We are either slaves to the Pharaoh and the gods of Egypt who want us to work on their eternal life salvations for them, or we are slaves to Yah. When God threatens to set us free, He is saying He will let them fall on us without mercy and this is not desirable:
To remain slaved to God is explained in the following tantra from Chayeh Sarah:
45 “Before I finished praying in my heart, Rebekah came out, with her jar on her shoulder. She went down to the spring and drew water, and I said to her, ‘Please give me a drink.’
46 “She quickly lowered her jar from her shoulder and said, ‘Drink, and I’ll water your camels too.’ So I drank, and she watered the camels also.
47 “I asked her, ‘Whose daughter are you?’
“She said, ‘The daughter of Bethuel son of Nahor, whom Milkah bore to him.’
“Then I put the ring in her nose and the bracelets on her arms, 48 and I bowed down and worshiped the Lord. I praised the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me on the right road to get the granddaughter of my master’s brother for his son. 49 Now if you will show kindness and faithfulness to my master, tell me; and if not, tell me, so I may know which way to turn.”
50 Laban and Bethuel answered, “This is from the Lord; we can say nothing to you one way or the other. 51 Here is Rebekah; take her and go, and let her become the wife of your master’s son, as the Lord has directed.”
-> The pure virgin future found within the House of God, born from the Monarchy, with the “sun in her nose” and binding her feet [= the Torah], combined by great compassion, leads to the Right Road. If you show kindness and faithfulness to Abraham, you will always know which way to turn.”
22 The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping-pins;
Changeable suits include the guises we assume as we grow up, those which are statutory, and those which demonstrate the Attributes of God, especially the mantle which includes the ways we illuminate life using the study of the Torah. Without the Wimpel this is not possible:
There are two symbols arising from the custom of the wimpel. The first is that it is a physical symbol of tradition being handed down from parent to child. The second is that it is the symbol of the child being bound to Torah just as the wimpel binds the Torah. The symbol is used whenever a major event occurs in the child's life.
Crisping pins are used in sewing used to rig or finish a garment.
One cannot conclude one has "crisped" and wear the uniform of the sacred and claim one's Jewishness if one lacks compassion and does not know where to turn in life in order to walk away from the venom that saturates the ground in this world.
Christians have been given a path, but the Jew has been given a duty. It must be observed by each generation starting with the fathers who must lead in ensuring their sons neither inherit nor succumb the sins of the past.
To worship God, to be prosperous and glad at all times, this what is meant by attaining to the Stay.

“A tabernacle was constructed, the outer one, in which were the lampstand, the table, and the bread of offering; this is called the Holy Place. Behind the second veil was the tabernacle called the Holy of Holies.” Hebrews 9:2-3 When we read the instructions of God about the tabernacle and its furnishings in Exodus 25 and 37, we see how specific God was about this Holy Place. The amazing thing is it all foreshadows and symbolizes Jesus and what He did for us. Back then there were 3 veils that separated God from men. Only priests could enter the Holy Place where the lampstand, the table of showbread and the altar of incense was placed. Only the High Priest could enter once a year into the last veil where the Ark of the Covenant and the Mercy seat was hidden. The bronze of the whole courtyard symbolized sin, and the gold inside the tabernacle symbolized God and His separateness from us. The lampstand clearly was an early representation of Jesus, light of the world. The light on this lamp could not be permanently lit, but we have the light of the Word which will never die. The table of showbread was specified to be made of acacia overlaid with gold, which symbolized that Jesus was both God and man. The bread on the table, which was also called Bread of the Presence, symbolized God's presence among us. God with us! The altar of incense is Jesus' interceding for us continuously. Blood was applied to this altar on the Day of Atonement! How obvious could God be about His plans for us? There is so much richness in all God does. Even in the little things then, and the little things now. We really need to open our eyes, to read His Word, and take advantage of the many gifts He wants to give us in His Word and in His presence in our life! https://www.instagram.com/p/Cnp2ihCh0aA/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hebrews 9:1‭-‬5 NKJV https://bible.com/bible/114/heb.9.1-5.NKJV https://www.instagram.com/p/Cks3JuNuilD/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Abijah Succeeds Rehoboam (1 Kings 15:1-9)
1 During the eighteenth year of the reign ofa King Jeroboam, Abijah became king over Judah. 2 He reigned for three years in Jerusalem. His mother was Uriel’s daughter Micaiah from Gibeah.
A war started between Abijah and Jeroboam. 3 Abijah started the battle with an army of 400,000 specially chosen valiant soldiers, but Jeroboam opposed him with 800,000 specially chosen valiant soldiers. 4 Abijah stood on Mount Zemaraim in the hill country of Ephraim and announced:
“Listen to me, Jeroboam and Israel! 5 Don’t you know that the LORD God of Israel assigned the kingship over Israel to David and his descendants forever by a salt covenant? 6 Even so, Nebat’s son Jeroboam, who used to serve David’s son Solomon, rose in rebellion against his own master! 7 Useless troublemakersc soon gathered around him, who turned out to be too strong for Rehoboam, because he was young, timid, and unable to withstand them.
8 “So now you think you’ll be able to withstand the LORD’s kingdom as controlled by David’s descendants, just because you have a large crown and have brought with you the golden calves that Jeroboam made for you as gods. 9 Haven’t you already driven away the LORD’s priests, the descendants of Aaron and the descendants of Levi? Haven’t you established your own priests like the people of otherd lands?
10 “Now as far as we’re concerned, the LORD is our God, and we haven’t abandoned him. The descendants of Aaron are ministering to the LORD as priests, and the descendants of Levi continue their work. 11 Every morning and evening, they’re offering burnt offerings and fragrant incense to the LORD, the showbread is set out on the pure table, and they take care of the golden lamp stand so its lamps can continue to burn every evening. We continue to be faithful over what the LORD our God entrusted to us, but you have abandoned him. 12 Now listen! God is with us to lead us, and his priests are about to sound their battle trumpets against you. Descendants of Israel, don’t fight against the LORD God of your ancestors, because you won’t succeed!”
13 But Jeroboam had sent an ambush to attack from the rear, so Israel was in front of Judah, with the ambush set in place behind them. 14 When the army of Judah turned around to look, they were being attacked from both front and rear, so they cried out to the LORD while the priests sounded their trumpets. 15 Then the army of Judah sounded a war cry, and God routed Jeroboam and the entire army of Israel in front of Abijah and Judah. 16 When the descendants of Israel ran away from the army of Judah, God handed them over to the army of Judah. 17 Abijah and his army defeated them in a tremendous slaughter that resulted in 500,000 special forces from Israel being slain. 18 And so the descendants of Israel were defeated at that time. The descendants of Judah were victorious because they trusted in the LORD God of their ancestors. 19 After this Abijah pursued Jeroboam and captured Bethel and its villages, Jeshanah and its villages, and Ephron and its villages.
Jeroboam’s Death and Asa’s Reign in Judah
20 Jeroboam never recovered his strength for the rest of Abijah’s life. The LORD struck Jeroboam,f and he died, 21 but Abijah continued to grow more powerful. He took fourteen wives for himself and fathered twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters. 22 The rest of Abijah’s accomplishments, his lifestyle and his memoirs are recorded in the Midrashg of the Prophet Iddo. — 2 Chronicles 13 | International Standard Version (ISV) The International Standard Version of the Holy Bible Copyright © 1995-2014 by ISV Foundation. *The Table of Showbread*
Let's go hunting 6
🌱📈📈📈📈📈📈📈📈🌴
Bread is to humans as carrots are to rabbits - a ravishing delicacy draped with nourishment and sustenance. Millions of people have been bred with bread, all kinds of bread - brown bread, sugar bread, tea bread. You name it.
Let me introduce a special type of bread to you. A divine and gracious bread. The only condition is that you have to eat this bread standing up! The name of this bread is the showbread.
The showbread was the second item in the Holy Place. This bread was made of fine flour depicting Christ's perfect humanity. There was no leaven in the showbread depicting Christ's sinlessness.
This bread was also known as the bread of His face or the bread of His presence. Only the priests were allowed to eat this bread. Glory to God, if you are born again, you are a priest of God. The priests ate this bread standing up signifying the readiness to serve. As we eat, we serve. Christ is our showbread. He is the bread of life. Listen to the words of Jesus.
_"I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world" (John 6:51 KJV)._
_As we eat the word, we dine on this bread. Are you dining?_
Further Studies: John 6:31-58; Exodus 25:23-30; Matthew 26:26; Revelations 3:20.

THE BREAD OF HIS PRESENCE
Leviticus 24:1-9 NLT The LORD said to Moses, [2] “Command the people of Israel to bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to keep the lamps burning continually. [3] This is the lampstand that stands in the Tabernacle, in front of the inner curtain that shields the Ark of the Covenant. Aaron must keep the lamps burning in the LORD’s presence all night. This is a permanent law for you, and it must be observed from generation to generation. [4] Aaron and the priests must tend the lamps on the pure gold lampstand continually in the LORD’s presence. [5] “You must bake twelve flat loaves of bread from choice flour, using four quarts of flour for each loaf. [6] Place the bread before the LORD on the pure gold table, and arrange the loaves in two stacks, with six loaves in each stack. [7] Put some pure frankincense near each stack to serve as a representative offering, a special gift presented to the LORD. [8] Every Sabbath day this bread must be laid out before the LORD as a gift from the Israelites; it is an ongoing expression of the eternal covenant. [9] The loaves of bread will belong to Aaron and his descendants, who must eat them in a sacred place, for they are most holy. It is the permanent right of the priests to claim this portion of the special gifts presented to the LORD.”
What is the significance of the Bread of His Presence and how did it point to Jesus Christ? The Bread of His Presence is an emblem of the Messiah’s cup of fellowship. The Bread of the Presence was set before the lamp in the holy place. In translation, it is the bread of faces, God’s revealed in Jesus Christ. The Bread of the Presence prophetically illustrates how God would step into the world He created and make his dwelling among His people to reveal His glory through the face of Jesus Christ. Aaron as the Levitical priest was charged with making sure the light kept burning, never to go out. Jesus came to cast and kindle a fire in believers, but it’s our responsibility to never allow the fire to go out as seen in Luke 12:29. Like them, we must keep our fire perpetually lit too with fresh oil. The responsibility of providing the ingredients belonged to everyone in the camp, as the responsibility of providing for the Lord’s house belongs to us all. They were all allocated tiny portions of fresh oil and flour when put together were fit for purpose and requirement. The significance of the bread of His presence is the continuous fire of God in our lives, homes, children, families and ministries. The act of breaking bread together is not only symbolic of how God feeds and sustains us by his every word, but it also represents the intimacy of the close fellowship that we are privileged to enjoy through the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made to reconcile us to God. We partake of one loaf, the bread that came down from heaven, and through the bond of his Spirit, we are brought into unity and maturity through faith, according to 1 Corinthians 10:16 because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake of that loaf. The bread of His presence is a confirmation of the continued sustenance and provision according to Philippians 4:19. The bread on the table connects with the breaking of bread at the table of the Lord in the new covenant and the command is to do this as often as we can to remember His finished work in 1 Corinthians 11:25. The table and the showbread symbolized the privilege of close fellowship with the Lord. Mephibosheth ate at David’s table like one of his sons in 2 Samuel 9:1-13. All of us were once enemies of God because of sin, but He cleaned and restored us based on his loving-kindness alone and has prepared a table before us in the presence of our enemies according to Psalm 23:5. We must keep our lamps fresh and constantly refill from the presence of the Lord to avoid staleness and contamination. We are all priests of God and are both the representatives of the people before God and of God to his people. Just as the Israelites symbolically entered God’s presence and ate the consecrated bread on behalf of the people, we who partake of the word of Christ, become ministers of the new covenant. The bread of His presence is on offer to you! Will you partake of it? Shalom Women of light international prayer ministries.

  Through the Bible with Les Feldick LESSON 3 * PART 3 * BOOK 50 Hebrews 8:11 – 9:14   Alright, back to where we left off - we were in Hebrews chapter 9 and again, we’re just trying to show that everything that went before was God ordained and even though it wasn’t perfect from man’s side, it was from God’s. But it had no power and consequently the Law was weak and beggarly as Paul calls it in Galatians and now as we saw in our last program then, that everything back there in the tabernacle was a preview of the finished work of the Cross. And how even the materials in the Ark of the Covenant all spoke of His death, His burial, His resurrection and the Word of God being the very manna that would sustain us for this Age of Grace. Now let’s just go on, I think Chuck is doing the numbers today, and we’re going to be in Hebrews 9 and we’re going to start verse 6 in this half-hour and just continue on. Hebrews 9:6a "Now when these things were thus ordained,…" That is by God Himself. The furnishings in the tabernacle, all the way from the brazen altar, the laver of cleansing, to the table of showbread, to the candlestick and the altar of incense. And then behind the veil was the Ark of the Covenant in which were the three things we just spoke of. Now continuing the verse: Hebrews 9:6b-7a "… the priests (the priests of Israel, all Levites remember) went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. 7. But into the second went the high priest alone, once every year,…" Let me come back to my diagram here on the chalk board. So daily, the priests would begin with the animal sacrifices out here at the brazen altar; they would stop at the laver of cleansing and wash and wash and wash. And then they would come on in and they would replace the loaves of bread on the table of showbread and they would trim the wicks and fill the oil and all that in the candlestick. They would trim the fires and everything on this altar of incense but never beyond the veil. And then they would accomplish their daily work and go back out. Now that’s as far as they could go in their daily ministration, but once a year the priest could go behind the veil. We were just talking at break and I’ve never been able to discern from Scripture, did he come around the end of the veil? We know he didn’t go under it, but somehow or other, once a year the high priest would come in behind the veil and sprinkle the blood upon the Mercy Seat and then go back out, get the blood of another animal; come back in for the sins of Israel and go back out. And only once a year on what we call the Day of Atonement. Remember the Day of Atonement could not take away Israel’s sin. It was only a stopgap, it was a covering and that’s why David said in the Psalms, "Blessed is the man whose sins are covered." They weren’t atoned for completely; they couldn’t be with animal’s blood. I wasn’t planning to do this - maybe I’d better do it again. So few people understand this whole concept of the departure of the Jewish believers or unbelievers as far as that goes in the Old Testament economy. And the Scripture is so plain that they went down into Hades or Sheol or Hell as we call it in the English. But Hades was divided by a great gulf, and on one side were the ‘flames of torment’ and on the other side was ‘Paradise.’ But it was all down in the center part of the earth. Now maybe we’d better chase down the Scriptures for this because it’s been a long time since we’ve done this. Come back with me to Matthew chapter 12, and we’ll begin at verse 38. Remember this in Christ’s earthly ministry. Matthew 12:38-39 "Then certain of the scribes and the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. (now you remember, the Jews were always requiring a sign. And His answers are in red if you have a red letter edition) 39. But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; but shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:"
If you ever have somebody scorn the story of Jonah, then you just tell them well, the Creator of the whole universe believed it. And if the Creator Himself believed it, you’d better! Because if you don’t you’re going to stand in danger of the judgment someday, because if you can’t believe that, then you can’t believe the work of the Cross. That’s the way I look at it. Because one is just as believable as the other. And so here the Lord of Glory Himself is putting His stamp of affirmation on the story of Jonah. Matthew 12:40 "For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." Which means the very center."In the heart of the earth." Now let’s go up and get a little glimpse of that place in the center of the earth, in Luke, chapter 16, and we can jump in at verse 19. Again, I think we’ll just take the time to read a good portion of this because the Word of God is more powerful than any two-edged sword. And it’s certainly more powerful than anything I can say, so we’ll just let it speak for itself. And again in the words of the Lord Jesus, Himself. Now I can never emphasize enough that even though He was on earth in the flesh, He never stopped being the Creator God of Genesis 1:1. And of course, this is what Hebrews has been showing; that Christ was totally God in the flesh. So, as God you see, He knows exactly what He’s talking about and this is not a parable. Luke 16:19-21 "There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously everyday: (in other words, he was really rich.) 20. And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores. 21. And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores." Now that poor guy was in really tough shape, materially, wasn’t he? Now verse 22. Luke 16:22a "And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom:…" We know the beggar was a believer, because he’s carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom. Now you want to remember that Abraham is 2,000 years before Christ’s earthly ministry. Luke 16:22b-23a "…the rich man also died, and was buried: (but his soul is in Hell) 23. And in hell he lifted up his eyes,…" Now the rich man is in the same center of the earth of course, but he is not on the Paradise side, he is on the torment side. And so in Hell, this place of the departed, down here in the center of the earth, as Jesus said in Matthew 12, the rich man is in torment; and Abraham and Lazarus are over here on the Paradise side, all in the center of the earth. Luke 16:23-28 "And in hell he (the rich man) lift up his eyes, being in torment, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. for I am tormented in this flame. 25. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. (Now here it comes) 26. And beside all this, (Abraham tells the rich man) between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: (no bridges across it. No way across) so that they who would pass from hence to you cannot; (Lazarus can’t come over and help you.) neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. (you can’t come over here) 27. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, (Abraham) that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: (my kinsmen, still alive up there in Israel) 28. For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment." You know what that tells me? Every lost human being, the moment they depart this life, they wish they could have somebody go back and tell their loved ones, don’t come here. But it’s impossible see? Alright, and this is no different.
Now remember this is not a parable. I have to feel that Jesus is giving us a little window of information that is as true as truth can be. So the rich man says, "send back Lazarus that they can be warned, that they not come to this place of torment." Now verse 29. Luke 16:29 "Abraham said unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them." What does that mean? They’ve got the Word of God. Now today, you see, when lost people immediately find themselves in that place of torment, and if they could scream send somebody to warn their loved ones, what would still be the same answer? They have the Word of God. Only God would probably narrow it down a little more and say, "they have Paul’s epistles, and Paul salvation message" You remember, what I’m always showing from Peter, Peter says, "that if you would have salvation, you go to the epistles of Paul for according to the wisdom given unto him, and found in I Corinthians 15:1-4 and Romans 10:9-10." Now verse 30. Luke 16:30-31 "And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. (oh, if somebody could just tell them what it’s like down here, they would believe. No they won’t. Look at the next verse) 31. "And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets; (now remember this is an Old Testament economy, if they won’t listen to Moses and the prophets) neither will they be persuaded though one rose from the dead." What does God know? The human mindset. And it’s no different today. My, sometimes I guess we wonder, if only God could just sort of manifest Himself in some tremendous way people would believe. No they won’t. Someone wrote me the other day and they said, "Les, I’m beginning to realize more and more as I hear you teach, that if Christ would come today, the world would crucify Him again." And I’m afraid that’s true, because the vast majority wants nothing to do with these things. Alright so now we can establish that in the Old Testament economy before the Blood of Christ was shed, since animal blood could not take away the sin of even the greatest believer such as Moses and Abraham, they went down into the center of the earth into the Paradise side of Sheol. But when the Blood was shed and the work of the Cross was finished, that now we see as Paul teaches in Ephesians chapter 4, that it all falls in place again so perfectly, and so clearly. I want to give you time to find it because you’ve got to read this with your own eyes, otherwise it won’t sink in. Now remember the setting, all the Old Testament believers have been going down into Paradise, only in the realm of soul and spirit of course, fully conscious. But when Christ says to the thief on the cross and I don’t have to have you read that one, you all know what He said. What did He say? "Today thou shalt be with me (where?) in Paradise." Not up in Heaven, in Paradise. Alright, now here Paul, puts the frosting on the cake: Ephesians 4:8a "Wherefore he saith, (that is Christ in verse 7) When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive,…" In other words, He took those that were in captivity down in that paradise side of Sheol, and removed them. Now who were the ones in captivity? These Old Testament believers waiting for the atoning Blood. Maybe I should put it this way. They’re waiting for the work of the Cross. They’re waiting for Christ to come down in those three days and three nights and declare unto them as Peter puts it in his epistle, "He preached unto them (what?) that the atoning Blood was now shed and He could take them out and now they could go into the Heavenlies into the presence of God because, because of Christ’s Blood their sins were totally removed." I was just talking to somebody on the phone again the other evening. about my maintaining that at salvation we are forgiven and God has sent our sins far, far away. I think the Psalmist puts it, "as into the depths of the deepest sea." Doesn’t he? Never to be remembered against us any more. Well
you see, when that happens and you and I are so cleansed by the Blood of Christ, now we have no compunction with saying, as Paul does, "to be absent from the body is to be(where?) present with the Lord." He doesn’t hold our past against us. He’s forgotten it. It’s gone and we are now fit to go into His presence. But the Old Testament saints were only under the blood of animals. And it was just a stopgap, as I’ve been saying over and over all afternoon. It was just a covering waiting for the finished work of the Cross. Alright, now let’s read on in Ephesians. Ephesians 4:8-9 "Wherefore he saith, When he ascended, up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 9. (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?...)" See how that fits with Matthew 12. Then verse 10. Ephesians 4:10 "(...He that descended (the Christ of the Cross) is the same also that ascended up far above all the heavens, that he might fill (or fulfill) all things.)" See how plain that is? You don’t have to be a seminary graduate to understand that. You don’t have to be a PhD in English. It’s just plain as day "that as Jonah was three days in the belly of the fish, for three days and three nights; so must the Son of man be in the heart of the earth, three days and three nights." What is it but that he descended first into the lower parts of the earth, took captive all these Old Testament believers, and took them up to Paradise which is now in heaven and torment of course now is enlarged, according to the Old Testament prophets. The torment side of Sheol now covers the whole area because Paradise is now in glory. Well, now let’s come back to Hebrews chapter 9 and verse 7, and see if we can make some more sense out of this: Hebrews 9:7-8 "But unto the second (that is beyond the vail, back into that Holy of Holies where the Ark of the Covenant was placed.) went the high priest alone once a year, not without blood,(animal blood) which he offered for himself, (and then he’d have to go back out and kill the second animal, take it’s blood and again go behind the veil) and (that) for the errors of the people: 8. The Holy Ghost this signifying, (showing) that the way into the holiest of all (the very presence of God) was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:" In other words, when the high priest would go in behind the veil, oh he was going into the Shekinah Glory presence of God as it hovered above this little tabernacle. But there was no way he had access into the throne room of God in heaven because all he had was animal blood. And it could not remove sin. It merely covered it. Okay, now can we go to the next verse, verse 9, and all of this was a figure, a type, a picture, all of this: Hebrews 9:9 Which was a figure for the time then present, (animal sacrifices, temple worship) in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, (or whole or complete) as pertaining to the conscience;" Animal blood could not do it. Now isn’t it amazing that Israel did not lose the temple until after Christ was crucified, buried and risen from the dead? I’d never thought of it really before. Isn’t it amazing? Those Romans could just as well have destroyed Jerusalem and the temple before all that was finished. My goodness, they were fighting the Jews for a hundred years before Christ came. But oh, God in His Sovereignty made sure that that temple worship kept on going until the finished work of the Cross was accomplished because you see, otherwise, there would have been a time in there where the Jews had no way of approaching God. If the Cross hadn’t been completed and if the temple was gone, then there would have been nothing. But God made sure that they could keep on with that temple worship, they could still bring their sacrifices. Remember, though that it was a dead religion. And not many of them were true believers anymore, but there were a few.
But God in His Sovereignty made everything fit, that after the work of the Cross was completed, the temple could be destroyed. And that’s why Paul can write in here that "everything pertained to the Law is like an old worn out garment, that you can fold up and lay it aside." How it all fits historically, as well as Biblically! Alright, now then, verse 10 - all of these things of tabernacle worship: Hebrews 9:10 "Which stood only (that all, that’s as far as it could go) in meats and drinks, and divers washing, and carnal (or fleshly or earthly) ordinances, imposed on them (that is on Israel)until (there’s your time word, when?) the time of reformation." (or setting everything straight.) In other words, again, they stayed under this old system of tabernacle, animal sacrificial worship, until that work of the Cross was consummated, and then all of this could fade away - it was now useless. It counts for nothing, and that’s the whole purpose of this letter to the Hebrews. Now let’s look at verse 10 carefully, for the minutes that are left. All of this worship service, all of this daily operation of the priest, the yearly practice of the Day of Atonement was all just simply a ritual "of meats and drinks." In other words, there were drink offerings that were poured out. The animal sacrifices and the burnt offerings and so forth, and then the next one; it’s real interesting - diverse what? "Washings." A lot of people don’t want to hear this, but what do you suppose the word washing is in the Greek? You’d better write this in your margin. It’s ‘baptismos.’ In other words, along with all this sacrificial worship they had baptisms as we would call it. But they didn’t call it baptism in the Old Testament. What did they call it? Washing. Now goodness, I don’t have to tell you that. Let me go back to Leviticus chapter 8, and we’ll just have time for one verse. Now this is preparation for the priesthood. But not only was it when they prepared for the priesthood it was every day, as they got ready to do this ‘daily ministration.’ Whoever happened to be the priest’s turn for that particular day, how did they have to start? Wash, wash, wash - in water. Leviticus 8:6 "And Moses brought Aaron and his sons, and washed them with water." Now if that would have been in the Greek it would have said he ‘baptized them in water.’ That’s really what it said. And so the whole religion of Judaism was based on wash, wash, wash. And so when we come to John the Baptist and he begins baptizing in the River Jordan, were the Jews all shook up, saying, "What in the world is all this?" No, nothing new. They’d been used to it for 1,500 years.
