Hey! Hey, would you like to be a park ranger?
Tumblr media
USA Jobs just posted a bunch of national park ranger positions for summer 2024--everything from small historic sites to the big flagship parks like Yellowstone and Yosemite. These are seasonal positions specifically for interpretive rangers, which means you begin around May-ish and end around September-October-ish. Interpretation is the branch of the NPS that does educational programming and frontline visitor services, like working in the visitor centers, leading guided walks and talks, and just generally interacting with the public in a friendly, helpful way.
If you have a four-year college degree in just about any subject (honestly, I've worked with people with degrees ranging from theater to business to geoscience), or 12 months' relevant work experience (customer service, retail, education, camp counseling, etc), or a combination of the two, you're eligible to apply. All you need is a resume and transcripts if you're using education to qualify.
Just go to USAJobs.gov and search for "park ranger interpretation" in the search bar. The key things you're looking for in the results are listings from the National Park Service, the code GS 5 (which is the entry level for this position), and the phrase Not to Exceed 1039 hours (which indicates it's a seasonal position).
Some tips!
>Each application requires you to answer a questionnaire about your experience with things like customer service, preparing educational programs, researching scientific topics, etc. Be generous with yourself on these, because other folks will be. Even if you don't think you're an "expert" in something, consider your past work creatively. Have you presented research projects in class? Have you worked retail? Can you keep up a professional demeanor when somebody's upset? You have the qualifications. Rate yourself as such.
>Be thorough and specific in your resume. The NPS isn't a one-pager resume organization. They need to see evidence that you have the qualifications you say you do. The best way to ensure this is to copy, word for word, the phrases in the above questionnaire and insert them in the relevant places in your resume. So if the questionnaire says "Can you research, prepare, and present scientific information to a lay public," go to the appropriate place in your resume and write "I researched, prepared, and presented scientific information to my peers" or something similar. I kid you not, my current resume is ten pages long.
>Cover letters are optional but helpful! There are lots of templates online to help you write one; be sure to be professional. Mine is around 250 words and has three short paragraphs:
1- Position I'm applying for
2- Quick summary of most relevant work/education experience
3- Additional skills/rizz that makes me stand out (for me it's writing/illustrating, which helps me create visitor programs)
>Two things the NPS loves that will boost you are foreign language skills and being a US military veteran. Highlight these elements if you have them.
>Are you a schoolteacher? Check out the Teacher-Ranger-Teacher program.
>The big flashy parks are posted as standalone listings, but most of the others are bundled into "Multiple Locations" that are based on region. Consider applying for many of these smaller monuments and historic sites---they get far fewer applicants and are easier to secure. And many are absolutely beautiful. Want to work at Arches? Also apply to Natural Bridges. Want to work in Yellowstone? Also try Lassen Volcanic. Prefer history over science? You have dozens of amazing options from every facet of American history.
>Apply today! Apply now! Many of these parks cap their applicants because they get so many, and the rest will close after a week or so. A glance at the ones that were posted today and yesterday show them either closing on October 15 or 22. Some regions haven't posted yet, so keep checking the website in the next few weeks.
I love my work as a park ranger---it's such a rewarding way to spend a summer (or two, or ten), and it can open doors to other things. You won't get rich, but you will make great friends and great memories, add a killer section to your resume, and spend four months immersed with smart, passionate people in some of the coolest places in the US.
Plus you get a SICK HAT

4 Effective Steps To Land Best Internship During PGDM Course
Tumblr media
A study conducted in 2023 showed that students who complete internships have 2x times of getting a job compared to non-interns. During PGDM programs, landing an internship in a good organisation becomes essential and serves as a foundation for a successful career. But as more students realise the importance of internships, competition rises.
In this blog, we will share some practical advice on how you can secure an internship in your dream organisation. We will also talk about one of thebest PGDM colleges in Mumbai, where students are free to work as interns and gain some experience.
Why are internships important?
When it comes to recruitment, most employers rate practical knowledge above grades (that does not mean grades aren’t important). An internship gives you the opportunity to:
Develop skills like problem solving, teamwork and critical thinking.
Experience the reality and complexity of the real world.
Apply your theoretical knowledge in the business world.
Build a network and strong relationships with industry experts.
Make your resume more attractive.
Get guidance and insights from a mentor.
Step-by-Step Guide to Getting Your Perfect Internship
During the second year of a 2-year PGDM course in Mumbai, students are encouraged to apply for internships to gain valuable insights and experience about the corporate world. Here’s a step-by-step guide that students can follow to get an internship at their dream organisation.

Step 1: Research the Organisation in Advance
Before applying for ANY internship, it is important that you conduct thorough research on the organisation. Read the job description to understand what companies expect from you and whether the description aligns with your career goals. You can look for internship opportunities by visiting career fairs, networking events, and internet employment portals. Before selecting a company, you can use platforms like LinkedIn to talk with employees and learn about the work culture of that particular organisation.
If you are pursuing aPGDM course in Mumbai, you will have ample opportunities. Research multiple organisations and apply there for internships. Later, you can choose the one that best suits your requirements.
Step 2: Create an Eye-Catching Cover Letter and Resume
Your resume and cover letter are your first impressions for the recruiters, and as the famous saying goes, ‘first impression is your last impression’. Make sure your resume is tailored to the internship position by emphasising your relevant coursework, experiences, and talents. For best results:
Get input from teachers, professional advisors, or mentors to make sure your application materials are unique.
Watch videos and read blogs that talk about how to create a customised resume.
Use free templates that are already available on the internet.
These tips will also be useful to create a resume when you are presented with a full-time PGDM course job opportunity.
Step 3: Utilise your Personal Brand and Network
The best PGDM colleges in Mumbai will organise guest lectures, where industry experts visit institutions to share their experiences with students. Communicating with these experts can help you get a lead for your internship. Additionally, you can also make use of your professional network, which includes mentors, alumni, and business people.
To increase your network, interact with professionals on sites like LinkedIn, go to networking functions, and take part in discussion boards relevant to your sector. You can also keep posting your research or new learnings on LinkedIn to establish a strong personal brand.

Step 4: Get Ready for Interviews
The secret to acing internship interviews is preparation. Do some research on the business, its offerings, and market trends to show the interviewer that you are serious and passionate about your role. To successfully communicate your abilities and expertise, practise typical interview questions and behavioural scenarios. If you want to impress recruiters and stand out from the competition, highlight your accomplishments, strengths, and fit with the internship role.
To ace an interview, you must:
Be prepared to answer technical questions.
Wear formal clothing.
Communicate effectively.
Have positive body language.
Always ask cross-question.
Maintain eye contact.
Common questions asked during interviews:
Tell me about yourself?
Why do you want to work here?
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Why does this role interest you?
Conclusion
An internship is more than just six months of experience; an internship in a renowned organisation can boost your career growth, improve your resume, and most importantly, develop skills that are essential to excelling in the business world. If your superiors like your work, they may also offer you a full-time job role. Also ensure to build good relationships with your colleagues and superiors.Following these four steps will ensure that you land your dream internship and build a solid foundation for your career.
If you are interested in pursuing PGDM, you can check out Thakur Global Business School (TGBS). They are one of the AICTE-approved PGDM colleges in Mumbai that provide specialisations in Finance, Marketing, HR, and Operations. Based in Kandivali, Mumbai, TGBS is considered one of the best institutes for PGDM courses in Mumbai for its amazing infrastructure, updated curriculum, and seasoned educators. 5 Tips for Landing Your Dream Teaching Job in Bhopal
Tumblr media
Are you looking to land your dream teaching job in Bhopal? If so, you’ve come to the right place! Landing a teaching job can be a daunting task, but with the right preparation and strategy it is possible. Here are five tips for landing your dream teaching job in Bhopal:
1) Research Schools: Before applying for any jobs, take some time to research different schools within Bhopal that offer positions as teachers. Look into their requirements and qualifications needed before submitting an application or attending an interview. This will help ensure that you have all of the necessary information when applying for these positions and increase your chances of getting hired quickly.
2) Networking: One great way to get noticed by potential employers is through networking events like conferences or workshops related to education held in Bhopal annually or even online through social media platforms such as LinkedIn where many educators share ideas about best practices in education among other topics related directly/indirectly with one another's profession(s). By connecting with people who work at various educational institutions around town this could open doors which otherwise would remain closed without proper connections being made beforehand!
3) Prepare Your Resume & Cover Letter: Make sure that both documents are up-to-date and tailored specifically towards each position applied too – this means no generic templates here folks! Try highlighting relevant experiences from previous roles (if applicable) while also mentioning any certifications obtained during those times which may give applicants extra points over others during selection processes conducted by hiring managers at various schools throughout town - especially if they're looking more closely into credentials than anything else when deciding who should fill vacant spots available on staff rosters each year.

4) Practice Interview Questions : It’s important not only preparing yourself mentally but also physically practicing common questions asked during interviews; try recording yourself answering them aloud so there won't be any surprises once meeting face-to-face with potential employers down line later on after applications have been sent off successfully already too then reviewed thoroughly afterwards prior making decisions based upon what was provided initially earlier ahead of time previously mentioned just now above..
5) Follow Up After Interviews : Once interviews wrap up, make sure follow ups occur, whether it's sending thank you notes via email, thanking everyone present again, plus reiterating why applicant believes he/she would excel working within given organization soon enough if selected eventually outta bunch competing against him/her currently.

If you are making multiple versions of your resume or cover letter, be sure to label each one with a specific title that will help you remember which is which (such as the title of the job you're applying for). After you've changed the name, click out of the textbox, and your new name is saved. To rename the file, simply click on the template name. For example, if you selected the basic Resume template, Resume appears above the toolbars.
The template name appears at the top of your screen, above the toolbars.
Changes are automatically saved into your account on Google Docs. Simply click where you want to edit, delete the dummy text, and start typing. The templates are filled with lorem ipsum dummy text.
Personalize the template with your information.
Click on the template you want to use, and it will open in a new window. You can find additional templates by clicking the More arrows and scrolling through the options. There are multiple letter formats you can use for your cover letter, and multiple resume formats as well.
Click on Google Docs under Personal, then click on Template Gallery to see a list of template options.
(Alternately, you can go directly to Google Docs.) Mouse over Google Docs and select From Template. Go to Google Drive and click on New in the upper left-hand corner.

Having a black and white newsletter design, when you plan to get the extra copies through photocopying, makes sure that the readability is guaranteed ahead. Besides, photocopying a newsletter in massive number of pages in black and white is easier.

In addition, the reason for choosing black and white newsletter template over the others is because printing black and white newsletter page is easier and cost less expensive compared to printing in the full colors. #COVER LETTER EXAMPLES PROFESSIONAL#
Taking a very professional approach to writing a cover letter shows that the contender is serious. It also presents the special techniques the candidate uses to teach students at the high school level. It points out the candidate’s strength for teaching and assessing knowledge in the specific subject. This cover letter covers a lot of ground. This cover letter oozes confidence! As with any specialist position, the candidate hones in on how her specific skills and background make her qualified for this role. We liked this cover letter because it pulls specific metrics that are not n the resume-including the number of students worked with and the funding obtained for special needs programs. It also talks about the characteristics that make this person the ideal candidate for this position. This cover letter emphasizes the applicant’s academic achievements, especially in regards to the psychology education required for many counselor positions. In this particular cover letter example, the teacher was looking to move into a leadership role, so this serves as a template for someone looking to transition into management as well. For example, he included how he modified the curriculum to meet the needs of a wide range of learners. This letter is similar to a standard teacher cover letter, yet it also stresses the specific qualifications and experiences of a special ed teacher. Those will jump out at the hiring manager, who will likely scan through a ton of applications. The letter breaks down the most relevant accomplishments into bullet points. With this letter, the applicant took a slightly different approach. With competition tight, this cover letter stands out as the candidate states her qualifications as well as her ability to train other staff members. Summer school teacherĪs school gets out for summer, many teachers still need to earn an income. It doesn’t hurt to have additional examples! This teacher cover letter clearly showcases the school’s goals and addresses how this teacher specifically can help. The candidate also includes references at the bottom of the cover letter. This example also makes it obvious that the candidate researched the new district and discusses why she would be excited to join. If you’re looking for a new position, your cover letter should clearly state your experience. Not every teacher stays in their job until retirement. This version of a cover letter calls out the specific skills the applicant has and hopes to bring to the table. Instead of rehashing everything on your resume, use the space to craft a paragraph or two that will convince them you are a stand-out candidate and are worth moving on to the next step. You’ve only got about 30 seconds to capture a hiring director’s attention, so start with what we call “the elevator pitch.” Imagine you have the time between the elevators close on one floor and open again on a new floor to sell yourself. 3 top tips for crafting a teacher CV or cover letter: Keep it short and sweet. Below you’ll find our tips for creating the best cover letter possible and our top 18 teacher cover letter and CV examples. They’re a time to highlight your accomplishments and make your passion for teaching known. The main rule? Sell yourself the way a publicist would. Whether you are sending out resumes hoping to land your first teaching job or looking to shift to a new school or district, one fact remains the same: all the best credentials, experience, and passion will go unnoticed without a strong cover letter.

Side Hustles for Writers: Writing Resumes
Have you ever tried to write a resume for yourself? You know how hard it is. You want to impress the reader, but you don’t want to sound like you are bragging. Then what should you include? What should you exclude?
It’s a difficult call – for you. Most of us are at our worst writing for ourselves. Here’s your opportunity to make money writing. You write their resumes for them.
Getting Business
Getting business is very easy if you live near a college, community college, university, or trade school. If that school has a newspaper, invest in a small ad that reads: Resumes. Professionally Written. Reasonably priced. You can place a similar ad in the local newspaper classified section under employment services or something similar.
Another way is to create a simple flyer with tear off sections and put them on bulletin boards around a college campus. Remember to get permission to post. You don’t want to make enemies with the school. Talking to the administration will help you make contacts with people who might steer students to you. I worked as a professor for many years, and I know that I have made many referrals to local businesses that I trust to out of town students.
 Writing the Resume
A resume is easy to write. There are two basic formats. One is the chronological approach. This one begins with the most recent job and works back to least recent. This is best with a client with a consistent series of jobs in the same field featuring some level of growth.
Under each job listing emphasize the accomplishments, duties, and skills developed on that job. Use bullet points with each line beginning with a verb.
For instance
·       Developed four online courses that created the foundation for the college’s online education initiative.
·       Taught Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Journalism, and Computer Mediated Communication.
·       Served on several committees including Accreditation, Academic Senate, Language Arts, and Curriculum.
You don’t need to put in everything. Ask your client what skills his or her ideal job would require and focus on those.
At the end of the resume add in volunteer work which might demonstrate their skills, languages spoken, certificates and degrees received.
The second type is the Skill focused or Functional resume.
Let’s say you have a client whose work history has large periods of unemployment, such as a woman or man who took off time to care for a child until the child began school. It could be someone who was out of work for an extended period of time retraining after their company went out of business or after a disability made them unemployable in their previous profession. Likewise, you might have a person who has worked at several quite different jobs.
In these cases, a traditional chronological resume may not be appropriate. They may raise questions such as
Why were you unemployed so long?
Would you leave this job if another child was born into your family?
You don’t seem to have any relevant job experience in this field. How do you think you can do the job?
That’s where the functional resume is useful. It is also useful for those just entering the workforce such as graduating students who may have academic experience, and even volunteer work, but little or no paying employment.
After the basic contact information with name, address, phone, and email, you put a skill summary before the employment information. This summary contains a listing of skills the applicant has including technical skills, languages spoken, writing or speaking skills, or any other skills that might be valuable for an employer to have to evaluate the applicant’s suitability for his or her business.
This is usually centered like this:
 Skill Summary
Proficient in Image Editing with Photoshop
Speak Spanish Fluently
Skilled at Writing Technical Manuals
Desktop and Online Publishing
After this you organize the work and volunteer history around types of experience. For instance, when I was looking for work as a college instructor, my background included teaching, radio broadcasting, freelance writing, and even a short stint selling insurance.
With that type of mixed experience, a simple historical listing might make me look like a Jill of all Trades. So, I created three functional categories: Education, Media, and Sales. Since I was applying for a position as a Communication and English instructor, I put Education and Media at the top. That way their first impression will be someone who has a strong teaching background with practical experience in my field of expertise in the “real” world.
So, with a client with mixed experience or who is just starting out but has practical unpaid experience like an internship or volunteer work in the field, this is useful. One word of caution: always designate the volunteer work or internships as such. For instance, someone seeking a teaching position might have a section that looks like this.

And if you catch those allusions you have the same exotic reading tastes as I do.
Aside from organizing the work experience by function instead of a timeline, the rest of the resume looks pretty much the same.
The Up Sell
This is a marketing term for providing an additional but related product or service. An easy upsell is to offer to write a cover letter for the individual. Basically, in the cover letter, you emphasize the person’s interest in the job, some knowledge of what the job entails, and some general references to their experience pointing the reader to the resume.
Another Up-Sell is something I never did because I didn’t want to, but it can be extra money. That is offering to “facilitate” the reproduction and distribution of the resume. Basically, they give you a list of places to which to send their application package, and you take care of that.
If you have some experience with employment interviewing, or if you want to research it, you can also offer a service whereby you help them practice their interview. There are multiple places where you can find lists of questions commonly asked and tips on improving your answers. You can do the research, that’s how I learned how to handle interviews which I also taught students for almost 30 years keeping up with the changes in the job market as it changed.
 Automation
While you can’t automate the entire process, if you do a search online for resume templates or resume writing software, you can simplify the formatting which can save you time and effort.
No, it’s not writing great literature, but it can give you a steady source of

This is a great skill to have if you work in a smaller firm because this exercise alone can mechanize the entire firm since the templates can shared amongst your peers. Your staff efficiency is increased and there is less energy expended from document to document. Create templates that have those items (styles and outlines,) that you tend to use again and again from document to document. Be able to open your template, save as a new document and be ready to go!
This is also a another great skill to be able to place on your resume.
This class also forces you to solidify your knowledge concerning Multilevel Outlines. For some, it will be the first time that they fully and clearly understand this topic.

I was just suddenly reminded of a time when I was about 22 or so, and I went home to visit my folks for a weekend. I was flat broke, working part time for the YMCA and going to night classes to become a paralegal. I had a bit of a breakdown, bc I needed a job that paid more that $7.25 an hour and I was certain that dropping out of college had ruined my life and everything was over for me at 22 (none of this was true).
And my sweet mama came up with a plan. She was certain if I mailed my resume to every lawyer in the phonebook, someone would bite. I had admin experience and I'm good with computers, she figured I could maybe get a job as a secretary and work my way up.
I remember being half-hysterical, trying to explain to her that it didn't work that way any more, that they'd just throw the resumes in the trash, but she was so sure and mama was never wrong about anything, and I never could tell her no, so we did it.
She bought me fancy stationary, and a book of stamps, and made a template so I could print labels. And I took it home with me, and sat in the floor of my bedroom and printed cover letters and resumes until my printer ran out of ink, crying the whole time, and mailed them off.
Not a one of those lawyers ever contacted me, but I didn't expect them to. A few weeks later one of my teachers recommended me for a job at her old law firm, and that was that. The day I got my first paycheck from that firm mama drove an hour and a half just to have dinner with me, and asked me what I was making at the job. I confessed I didn't know; I was young, and so desperate that I'd taken the job without even asking about pay, and I hadn't even looked at the check. I opened it right there at the table, and cried in the middle of Outback Steakhouse because I was getting paid ten dollars an hour, and that check was for more money than I'd ever had at one time in my entire life.
Mama's plan didn't work; it's just not the way things are done anymore. But she was so earnest, and so sure, and so hopeful, and so determined. She had a plan for everything. I still remember how that stationary felt in my hands, and how even though I was sure it would never work I did it anyway, bc mama was sure. There's something so sweet and so naive about that plan now, when I think about it. I wish it would have worked; I wish the world had been a better place, for her sake.
