Aventurine character study that I spewed at my friend posted here bc I despise whoever portrays him as a useless blonde 24/7 horny twink as his canon self (i will throttle you through the fuckin screen)

A/n: I think the 2.1 trailer is helping me regain my writing motivation, expect inbox asks from Jan- Feb to be coming out soon :)

WRITTEN BEFORE 2.1 This post will contain leaks, 2.0 Trailblaze quest spoilers, world quest spoilers, Aven's slave life in canon, disgusting people saying Aven's a sex slave, under the cut! Please proceed with caution if any of these trigger you. Thank you, and enjoy my yap session on one of the best characters in this game.

Aventurine's story is much more than just looking and acting like the typical rich blonde playboy, as much as he gives off those vibes. Looking at his child self in the 2.1 trailer compared to all of his current models, its very obvious that many, many things happened that caused all the light to poof from his eyes.

First, his homeland, Sigonia. Aventurine's home planet's is uninhabited, and perhaps even destroyed completely. Aventurine is the last of his kind left. His parents, his sister, his possible friends and relatives, hell, even all the people he doesn't know have all perished. The IPC took him in, I presume, but most definitely not out of kindness. In fact, it may not matter that Aventurine is one of the Ten Stonehearts, he is not a person to the company. He is just a asset, a piece for them to dispose if he fucks up.

In the 1.4? Belobog quest where Topaz goes to Bronya about Belobog's massive debt to the IPC, and at the end, we get our first crumbs of Aventurine's character. A important thing to note in this dialogue between the two of them is that he asks Topaz to the project manager on his project in Penacony, because if he knows better than everyone that if he fails to get Penacony back into the IPC's grasp, he'll die. There's no way around it, unless he gets someone he has a somewhat close bond with, Topaz, to lighten his fall.

The tattoo on his neck, is a symbol of his slavery to the IPC. How he's bound to them. How no matter how hard he runs or hides, he will never escape their grasp. In fact, he knows damn well, if anyone gets wind of this alongside his Sigonian history (Sigonians are notorious for being wolves in sheep's clothing, bad people in most eyes'), it is very well possible that his rivals and enemies will use his past to their advantage. Thats why he freely shows it to the world. So that no one can dig it up and use it against him, because how do you use something that he so freely proclaims to everyone he meets?

Aventurine is a man who gambles as well. Not just simply gambling for the thrill of it or his earnings. He says it himself, he sees the world, life itself, as a gamble. High reward, high stakes. Even going back to his conversation with Topaz, its only shown on how he tells her he warned her about taking Belobog as her project because it was high risk, but low return. Aventurine wants the best outcome not just for himself, but because if he doesn't get a good outcome, the IPC has no use for him.

Aventurine is a man who knows how to get what he wants. he knows how to take risks, get out of high stake scenarios with him being the winner. Its obvious in his lightcone, 'Final Victor', his conversation with Dr. ratio in the Penacony 2.0 Trailblaze quest, and his conversation with Himeko and Welt about giving up his room for the Trailblazer. He's confident, cocky, if you will. But for good reason.

In the lightcone, its implied it doesn't matter for Aventurine dies or lives. He will always be the winner. Every move is calculated, precise, carried out with clockwork precision and most importantly, planned so well that whether you like it or not, you're letting him win. He manages to get the Nameless, the widely regarded faction, in his debt. He knows damn well how to play his cards. It is extremely impressive. But he is the Aventurine of Stratagems. He knows what he wants and needs, and he will go any length to get it.

The lightcone, again, also shows just how far Aventurine risks, just for him to gain Dr. Ratio as a asset for him to benefit from. He could have gone any route, but what does he go for? Thats right, Russian goddamn roulette. Just for the (I assume) slim chance of Dr. Ratio's trust, or at the very least, cooperation. "I will always be the final victor." I am repeating, but just bear with me here, this just solidifies the fact he is confident in his skills. He doesn't flinch at all when he shoots 3 blank rounds right into his heart, even though there's the 1/6 chance he'll die. He takes risks. Its his character. He doesn't have anything or anyone, much less his own life, left to loose.

The lightcone is also not 'haha funny gay story', as much as it is funny, i wont lie, the memes are fun to look at, but it is not that. Its a story where Aventurine's suicidal tendency shows through, perhaps not so clearly, but its very much there if you look past the story and read into it. Again, Russian roulette, he could have gone for anything else, like a contract or smth, but he knows he has to go through extremes, and this just solidifies the fact of how Aventurine will do anything for assets and trust in him, so his plans can come to fruition.

Aventurine's personality is complicated, like a intricate, deceiving web of lies and emotional barriers to keep him safe. He hides behind the facade of smiles and is unreadable, and his past is all but cheery. A slave, (not a sex slave, twitter+Tiktok users need their brain fucking reworked i will cry) a man branded by the IPC, bound to the till his death is what Aventurine is. The IPC is ruthless, evident from multiple world quests, such as the Aurum Street Alley quest, Belobog's debt quest, Chadwick's quest in Penacony, paints them as bad people, a bad organization in general. Hell, even though Topaz isnt like the assholes we've seen, she's far from an angel herself.

Aventurine has gone through many things to have lost the sparkle in his eyes. Take Childe/Tartaglia from Genshin Impact for example, whom fell into the abyss for months, seen all the horrors of it, had to learn to fend for himself because I'm very sure Skirk did not care for him in a healthy sense. We can either assume Aventurine been through something on the same level during his younger days or perhaps, worse.

And no, he is not Dr. Ratio or Sunday's sex slave, I'm looking at a certain artist on Twitter (fuck off I'm not calling it X), its disgusting. Whoever genuinely enjoys sex slave Aventurine is sick in the damn head, no he would not enjoy that kind of Roleplay, as much as i am downbad and indeed filthy with some of my fics with him.

Aventurine doesn't have anyone he can truly call a friend, ship him with Dr. ratio, Sunday, Boothill (yes, its a thing), Caelus/ Stelle, whoever, but in the end, you cannot say he (as of 2.0, this may change) has any true friends he can trust, not even just a bit. Bonds he forms are transactional, maybe not too much on Dr. Ratio (as evidenced by his dejected his looks after Ratio leaves, either from the insult or bc he truly though Ratio cared) and perhaps on the Astral Express's part, but his bond with Sunday? Yeah, its transactional, 101% unless it changes in 2.1.

All in all, Aventurine is my favourite character, i have never wanted to read, write, understand, watch, hell, I've never wanted to farm and pull for a character as much as him. He is a complex, heavy and deep character that I do not believe many can grasp upon properly when writing stories, headcannons or even smut/nsfw works with him in it (shoutout to those who does tho, I love y'all <3).

Draw or write his fanon self, make him a himbo, tsundere, a rich man who's just a playboy, or a blonde with a pretty face, but you cannot say that is him in canon. I may despise some fanon interpretations, but fuck those who merge fanon and canon. He will never be any of the fanon interpretations i mentioned above, and he never will be in canon. Hoyoverse put their whole soul into this man, i can see it, and its brain damaging on how so many people fetishize his past and water him down.

In speculation of 2.1 and 2.2, if Aventurine does live (he prob will, its unlikely he'll be killed before release, Tingyun is a exception because she released before her death), maybe he'll learn how to start to open himself up again, start to fully trust, starting with Trailblazer as his first true friend. Its cliche, typical protag power bullshit, but it will no doubt, be a huge step in shaping Aventurine back into the man he could have been if his planet wasn't enslaved.

Conclusion: He deserves better, both in- game and how the fandom treats him. I love him, he's my adorable pookie wookie shmookie <33

I just had a bit of a realization. I'm not of the Ten Stonehearts anymore, am I? I shattered my Cornerstone. I wanted to leave the IPC. Can I even still use the name Aventurine?

To be fair, it's not like Diamond will ever know.

But I'm not sure I want to be associated with them anymore. Aventurine of Stratagems was a pretty cool title though...

We've really been spoiled tonight! Both a Penacony teaser and the second banner five-star for v2.1, and it's IPC agent Aventurine!

"Go ahead, use me as you wish, even stab me in the back when you see fit. Exploitation and treachery are simply tools of the trade. But remember, I don't make deals that don't pay off… So, I hope you don't disappoint me." A senior manager in the IPC Strategic Investment Department and one of the Ten Stonehearts. His Cornerstone is "Aventurine of stratagems." He possesses an air of frivolity and doesn't shy away from taking risks. His constant smile makes it difficult for people to discern his true feelings. He won his current position by wagering against fate itself. He views life as a high-stakes, high-return investment, and he plays this particular gamble with masterful ease.

Really happy we're getting a new Preservation character, but shame I'm gonna skip him. This is a new Path/Type combo, by the way, and it means we're only one Erudition character off from filling out the Imaginary lineup!

--- random, but I can't stop thinking about how Aventurine is depicted as crafty, scheming, and even callous at times. And he is all of those things, but above that, he remains one of the Ten Stonehearts; his connection to Preservation is always at the forefront.

Not preservation of himself, but rather, looking to protect something and someone else. Aventurine, with all that he's been through, doesn't see himself as someone worth safeguarding. After all, he once believed someone will protect him and that didn't happen. Instead, he now occupies the position of protector. In his own way, he's doing what wasn't done for him -- keeping ensuring freedom without chains to bind one's soul.

His cornerstone is that of Stratagems, so he is suspicious and scheming and manipulative, but at its core, it's all for the greater good. Once you place a bet, there are two outcomes - you either trust in luck (and he was burned by this path) or you stack the deck in your favor (which often inherently is seen in negative light). But Aventurine doesn't particularly care about being seen as a hero or someone positive. He just wants to preserve.

spoilers for aventurine's past & 2.1. nightmare. insecurity. gender neutral reader. angst/hurt with comfort. :3 super duper extra soft aventurine please handle with care. i hope i wrote this well (*´꒳`*) also i hope that the metaphors made sense..... i actually wrote a fic this time gasp

written as a part of personal memoires event by @thexianzhoujade. prompt used is viii. “it’s okay if you can’t catch your breath, you can take the oxygen straight out of my own chest.” | atlas: two.

that same dream, playing on his head over and over again as if to remind him of something he won't ever forget—the day he was born, followed by the day he lost his mother, his sister, and ultimately himself.

his situation forced him to adapt and grow up earlier than the other kids his age. when he was supposed to be in the safety of his mother's loving embrace and snuggled up beneath a warm blanket, little aventurine had to escape from the katicans hot on his heels, carrying the last wishes of his mama and big sis—which was for him to stay alive, for he is the child blessed by gaiathra herself. but is he really blessed, if he's stripped away from all that is dear to him?

the screams and cries of his people still haunt him in this dream, before they're slowly drowned out by the sound of raindrops hitting the dry and barren ground of his home planet as he ran, ran, and kept running—obeying his sister's wishes before she sacrificed herself, all to protect the her dearest brother, a selfless act even he doesn't understand why she would ever do that. guilt eats away at his heart whenever he recalls her last words, reminding him of his failure to protect the most important people in his life.

aventurine the stratagem, one of the ten stonehearts, the senior manager of IPC's strategic investment department—all these titles meant nothing to him, seeing as they serve to remind him of the shackles they placed around his wrists, how he can still feel the weight of the harsh and thick metal tightly wrapped around his neck as he works his little body to the bone. to him, the only title that truly shows his true self is the one on his neck—something to be owned, who's only worth so much as sixty tanbas, something his current self would have no problem with spending. heck, he can spend millions of credits at once and still have billions left in his account, but to his poor, teen self? it was his market value, showing just how worthless he is, and he still is—to himself, at least.

"...ugh..." forcing himself awake, he finds himself laying on the hotel's million-credits bed, his pajamas halfway unbuttoned, and the blanket forming a mound beside him—ah, it's you, curled up beneath the blanket you hogged from him.

for a moment, the sight soothed aventurine's heart and silenced the voices in his head. it truly astonished him that you had such an impact on his entire being, but it's not entirely mind-boggling either, for you were the one who picks up pieces of his shattered heart, put them back together with so much love and care, and place it back into his chest where it belongs—but not before worming yourself into it, settling down in the cold and empty space to paint it with your color. you brought the rotten heart back to life with the gentleness of your touch, slowly but surely convincing him that he deserves to be happy, to be loved.

he stares at you, smiling solemnly before he gets lost in his thoughts again—wondering if you were in your right mind when you confessed your love to him that day with a gaze that looks oh-so-dreamy, when your eyes seem to shine brighter than the stars in the sky everytime your gaze locks with his lightless one—that look you reserved for him and him alone—does he, someone so weak and imperfect, deserves it? don't you see how pathetic he actually is?

for so long, aventurine always thought that if he just keeps spoiling and showering you with money, you'll surely stick around, that maybe just like everyone else, you desire something for him too—that was what his anxiety and fear said to him in his head, ruining his confidence yet again, or perhaps he's never truly confident after all, always clutching his chips for dear life beneath the table while having the most cocky grin on his pretty face, fooling not only everyone, but also himself.

if only he knew that you would rip your heart clean apart to help his beats, that you would let him take the oxygen straight out of your own lungs if it helps him to breathe a little bit easier—giving it your everything to try and bring him back to life.

just like right now, gliding your fingertips across his cheek to wipe away the crystalline tears that escaped his eyes without his consent. when did you wake up? was he too deep into his head to notice that concerned look on your face? was he too busy loathing himself to realize that you have been trying to make him see just how wonderful he actually is?

"tell me, is something wrong?" your voice, as smooth as silk and as gentle as a mother's embrace, broke the silence of the room, snapping him back to reality—something he dreaded before. now? not so much, because it has you in it.

aventurine shakes his head, closing his eyes briefly to stop the tears from rolling down his face before his lips are pulled up to form a tight smile, "it's nothing serious, but why are you awake—"

"no, i don't want to talk about myself," you cut him off, sensing the emotions that are about to bursts out of him after being bottled up for so long, "it doesn't look like 'nothing serious', would you... like to talk about it? it's fine if you don't, too,"

please stop, if you keep being so sweet to him, he might just breaks down into thousands of pieces. but at the same time, he really wants to stay like this forever—no, he needs this, your pampering, your love, and you. he might sound greedy, but if you yourself are willing, then who is he to decline an angel's favor?

he doesn't reply, but you already know everything and there's no need for words—you simply pulled him close and rest his head on your shoulder, and that's it. that's the only thing you need to do for him to break the protective wall guarding all the emotions inside, which comes down in the form of salty tears that flows down his eyes, dampening your pajamas—not like you mind though.

"it's okay, you're a strong child, kakavasha—i'm so proud of you, you know?"

proud... something he's never thought of feeling before, nor does he expect someone to be proud of him. his grip on your back tightens, shifting his body closer to yours like a baby that seeks his mother's warmth. the facade of the arrogant and haughty gambler breaking down completely, revealing the little boy who only desires affection and love within.

to him, your touch feels like the warm light of the stars, doing your best to lit up the dark sky to accompany the lone moon and envelop him in your warm light, letting him know that he's not alone.

"you... you meant that?" aventurine lifts his head up, eyes glistening with the remnant of tears and pain, his voice was brittle, as if he was on the verge of breaking down. (again)

the sight causes your eyes to softens and a mirthful chuckle escapes your chest, "what kind of question is that?"

you bring your hands up to cup his cheeks, thumbs grazing his skin to remove the traces of misery from his face. beautiful, absolutely and utterly mesmerizing—those were the words that formed themselves inside your brain as your eyes ran down his features. how does one have the ability to hurt this sweet boy? if only you knew him back then, you would've iced the bruises on his back and tucked him away somewhere safe—you would've protected the light in his eyes, made sure that it won't fade away.

"i love you,"

his frown falters, his lips curling up in genuine joy, "do you?"

"have i ever lied to you?" you raised an eyebrow, now petulantly pouting at his constant doubting—a playful act to lighten the mood.

aventurine chuckles at your adorable expression as he loosen his hold on you, leaning down to press his forehead against yours, "no, no, it just... amazes me how easy it is for you to give your heart away to me," yet another subtle hint of insecurity from him—the feeling of undeserving of your affection.

"you're easy to love," you reply rather quickly, with a small shrug as if this was no big deal for you—and it wasn't, and will never be one.

his smile widen as he tilts his head, not saying another word and instead, opting to express his gratitude with a slow and tender kiss, his hands resting on your cheeks, holding you as if you're a fragile porcelain that might break if he were to tighten his grip—and he's not taking any risk. he can't lose you too—not after you poured love into every cracks you found in his soul, marking him as yours—every bone in his body, every drop of blood, every nerve and sinew in his mind, are yours, and only yours.
