One time I did a bowl of salvia and I lived the entire life of Admiral Horatio Nelson. All 47 years of it. I was a midshipman in the West Indies, I conducted an amphibious operation at the Turks and Caicos in 1783, I was at Cape Saint Vincent, Santa Cruz de Teneriff, the Nile, and Trafalgar. I lost my eye at Corsica, and my arm at Spain. When I was finally felled by a French bullet, I came off my trip. My friend said the trip only lasted a few minutes.

Thinking out loud about thinking out loud

What a Sweeran trio we were treated to in Wembley N4! I was surprised that the third song was Thinking Out Loud rather than Run. It is X's 10 year anniversary and recently re-released. Ed also featured it on a playlist this week of 'Songs that almost didn't make the album' but so was I'm a Mess. So why play TOL with EHC and End Game rather than Run (which I expected) or Teneriffe Sea, (which is also on X as Ed is promoting it's anniversary edition, and they have played together before) both of which would be a more obvious choice? A song that refers to being 23 and 70... hmmm......

Because it was the subject of Ed's more high profile copy write suit we know a bit about it, that it was written in 20 minutes in Ed's kitchen at 2:00 am on February 4, 2014.

When Ed Sheeran was 22... maybe he was thinking ahead to his 23rd Birthday which was on the 17th... thinking he would fall in love in the coming year??? It's often thought it is written Ed's then Girlfriend Athina Andrelos. The Wiki reference for that has a quote about I'm a Mess not TOL, and the 23 lyric doesn't make sense then. Or maybe he was thinking of the age his BFF was when her heart fell as in the lyric.

Ed came running downstairs and said, ‘What’s that? We have to do something with that…We went for dinner with his mum and dad and then came back and wrote the song, which Ed recorded on his phone straight away. He kept saying, ‘It should be on the album.'”

What guitar now? Do you know what else happened in February 2014? ...Harry was seen backstage at Red and Style was written later that week. And she performed it at Wembley stadium, right where Harry was first heard on xfactor, his first stadium show, where they’ve seen each other at each other and Ed’s shows

Anyway that's what I think of when I hear this song.... written by Ed when he was 22.

And when asked by teen vogue his favourite song in 2015 Harry said thinking out loud was personal to him:

“I’m gonna pick ‘Thinking Out Loud,’ Ed Sheeran. It’s a personal song for me,” he said on BBC Radio One. “A couple of Christmases ago, I actually bought Ed a guitar for Christmas. And this was one of the first songs that he wrote on it, so it’s one of my favorite Ed Sheeran songs.”
