The 1981 Inspector Spacetime Holiday Special
For the Eleventh Inspector's 2010 Christmas episode, he and Constable Reggie travelled back to 1981 in order to save Time Day and Father Christmas from the Blorgons.
Misguidedly conceived as the new series's hat tip to the classic serials, "The 1981 Inspector Spacetime Holiday Special" wound up featuring such badly misplaced nostalgia, inappropriate reused footage, awful musical numbers, and terrible "futuristic" special effects that it drew record hate mail from both fan camps. Fans were also infuriated that the cliffhanger to the previous season would not be resolved under Series 7's premiere, "Bedlam of the Blorgons".
After its lambasted critical reception, the creator took a hammer and smashed all copies at BTV studios, though this did not prevent his knighthood being revoked.

Trivia
To this day, neither Paul McCartney nor Dame Edna acknowledge their participation in the special.

The Infinity Knights have long considered the Inspector unreliable for their inability to pull the trigger on Vosdra when ordered to.
And, because of that, the Inspector still considers that their greatest failure.

Don’t worry if you can’t remember where the Blorgons came from.
The programme has offered up at least three explanations for their origin: Mutation caused by nuclear war on Blorgonon, future humans that have evolved into the Blorgon squid creatures, and Vosdra’s genetic experimentations.

If the Globnors had truly been actual pacifists,
chances are the Blorgons would have completely eradicated them long before the Inspector and his Associates arrived in ‘The Blorgons’.

Because of the amount of padding that writers included in the early serials,
at least one episode per serial would have little to nothing to do with the story arc, such as when Bart and Irma wandered off on Blorgonnon for no real reason.

This wasn’t the first time the Inspector had mistakenly stepped on a landmine.
His fourth incarnation did so, only to manage to replace his weight on one during the course of the serial ‘Creation of the Blorgons’.

Every once in a while, the producers decide to go a bit over-the-top with literally everything exploding (in succession).
(Nobody talks about the budget of those episodes.)

Surely the First Inspector wasn’t referencing the events of ‘The Five Inspectors’
when he announced to Suzanne Overseer that he would ‘see you in a bit’ when he abandoned her in ‘The Blorgon Evacuation of Earth’.

The Inspector refused to eradicate the Blorgons when he was sent to their inception.
And, he was unable to bring himself to kill what he thought was the final Blorgon in existence.

‘Forgettance of the Blorgons’ tends to be remembered most
for its soundtrack, which featured synthesizers and saxophones, trademark ’80s sounds.

Layla appeared in only five episodes, dying midway through ‘The Blorgons’ Cunning Scheme’.
She came across as so combative because of her medieval code of honour that clashed with modern mores that show runner William Johns made the scriptwriters write her out, hoping to stop criticism of the programme.

The moral of ‘The Might of the Blorgons’ is:
He who fails to learn from history is doomed to repeat it ... unless the Inspector shows up to stop it from happening again.
