Propaganda
Madhubala (Mughal-e-Azam, Barsaat Ki Raat, Mr. & Mrs. '55)—The Venus of India; heart-throb of all who saw her; responsible for the sexual awakening of every single desi lesbian I know (including me!) And my god, she is breathtakingly beautiful. Look at the subtle grace with which she moves, and that smile - the kind of radiant smile that can make you laugh with sheer delight, or cry because of its hidden pain. Those wild curls! That Cupid's bow! The way she tilts back her head and smiles at you with mischief dancing in her eyes! She has a way of looking at the camera that makes you feel she's sharing a private joke just with you; it's something about that quizzical twist of the lips and eyebrows. As an actress, she is inimitable; she seems to effortlessly inhabit roles ranging from a heart-broken courtesan to a laughter-loving socialite. Fun fact : she's had quite the fan following in Greece! Stelios Kazantidis even wrote a song as a tribute to her.
Olivia de Havilland (Adventures of Robin Hood, Gone With the Wind, The Heiress)— The woman who took on the Studio System at the height of their power and Won! A double Oscar winner! Is magnetic and beautiful in everything she's in and gave us all the juicy scandal with her sibling rivalry with Joan Fontaine! Before the Oscar Slap was the Oscar sister snub! Also everything she wears in Robin Hood she makes beautiful even a purple green and orange monstrosity how does she do it! Anyway this scene is one of my old Hollywood favourites
This is round 3 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Madhubala:
Tumblr media
An icon of Bollywood, who was well known for her beauty and has continued to inspire performances and songs into the 21st century. She was at times described as "the number one beauty of the Indian screen" and "the biggest star in the world".
SHE IS EVERYTHING AHHH. JUST LOOK AT HER SMILE-
Tumblr media
She's been nicknamed the Marilyn Monroe of India and was one of the highest paid actresses in the Hindi film industry (the term Bollywood did not exist yet) during the 1950s. Also an extremely talented dancer and singer
Tumblr media
SHE'S JUST SO STUNNING, like seeing her eyes IMMEDIATELY CAPTIVATES YOU, THE DANCING, THE BEAUTY!!!!!!!!! She worked in Bollywood for over 20 years and passed away at a sad early age of 36, BUT THE IMPACT SHE HAD WAS UNMATCHED!!!!!
Tumblr media
That sassy sideways glance she does always has me WEAK AT THE KNEES. And when she's making silly faces at the camera to mimic someone ahhhh my gay little heart <3
Tumblr media
Olivia de Havilland:
Tumblr media
She is just perfection. She has a smile that is looks like it is barely holding back, and yet so reserved as well.
Tumblr media
Broke the contract system and won freedoms for actors (the de Havilland Law is still in effect I believe). 2 time Oscar winner. Beautiful and smart
Tumblr media
She legally challenged the movie studios' unfair contracts and won, setting a precedent for other actors to be treated more fairly. This was at great cost to her financially and essentially getting her blacklisted for years but the resulting judicial opinion is still known as the De Havilland Law and has won her a great deal of praise and admiration.
Tumblr media
Her performance in The Heiress is one of my all-time favorites, she’s so good at making melodrama feel real and grounded without sacrificing any of the passion/drama.
Serenely beautiful, she struck a balance between crowd-pleasing fluff and prestigious drama. Famously at odds with her equally successful sister Joan Fontaine, she was too much of a lady to ever say anything public. Successfully sued Ryan Murphy for portraying her as a saucy gossip in Feud.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the period costume + eye patch combo in That Lady is just an absolute serve
Tumblr media
She has the most adorable and cherubic face and voice

DAY 5387
Jalsa, Mumbai                Nov 12,  2022                 Sat 11:59 PM
Uffff .. made it in time for the day of the 12th without the slash of the 13th .. though it was pretty close .. just a minute away and the DAY would have been morose ..
But morose is the day .. for another colleague has left us and me in particular ..
Rakesh Sharma , first AD to Prakash Mehra on ‘ZANJEER’ .. then independent director for other PM ( prakash mehra, as we often joked with him, as the PM of the country ) films .. and singularly - Hera Pheri, Khoon Pasina, Mr Natwarlal, Yaarana , et al .. and such great camaraderie on sets and else where, socially, during events and Holi ..
One by one they all leave ..
But some like Rakesh leave an imprint that is hard to remove or forget .. his sense of screen play and direction, writing and execution on the spur of the moment and the fun times on location during Nattu and Yaarana .. his complete faith in his worth .. and the ease with which he would grant us the liberty of skipping shootings on the odd day, just to be able to spend time relaxing fooling around and being in the company of uncontrollable laughter and gaiety ..
A most affable and kind hearted human , ready to step up to any kind of inconvenience that artists that worked with him, faced .. !
No I shall hesitate to go to his funeral .. for I shall not be able to bear the sight of an inert Rakesh  !
You made many of us prominent with your innovative ideas for story and film, Rakesh, and you shall ever be remembered .. ! 🙏🙏🙏
Sad news percolates on some other near and dear too .. but life challenges each hour and you get up bruised and damaged to brush off the injuries and walk .. then canter .. and finally run .. !!
I have no heart to design any other with pictures, so shall leave that for another day ..
Love

Amitabh Bachchan
💛🪔 .. November 13 .. birthday of Ef Dr. Chitra Prasad from Canada 🇨🇦 .. Ef since the days of BigAdda .. and an admirer of Babuji .. she has written a book titled “Poetry and Emotions on Celluloid: Role of Hindi Film Lyricists” .. which is somehow related to my work of reserving the heritage of Indian Cinema .. or so I was told .. and one shall thank her for this with admiration and all good wishes .. .. and it is happy birthday to Ef Saru Rairikar from Satara for the 13th as well .. ❤️❤️❤️ November 13 is also "World Kindness Day" .. and in quoting from the words of the Ef .. one must say that it's indeed wonderful that your birthdays have such a special meaning .. the 13th has always been associated with being unlucky .. which is untrue .. but now you can tell everyone that your birthdays are a reminder for people to be kind !! .. in a world where we can choose to be anything , choose to be kind .. !! .. and .. yes .. be kind to yourself .. that's important too .. ❤️❤️❤️
Love .. and the kindness of 🤗 to all the Ef .. ✨

"From Sales to PR: The First-Time Flair to a Hilariously Confident Journey into the World of Public Relations"
Chapter 1: The Great Escape
Once upon a time in a land of aggressive sales targets and soul-sucking meetings, I found myself longing for a change. So, I hatched a daring plan—I would leave my sales job behind and embark on a whirlwind adventure across the country, of India. Cue the dramatic music!
Chapter 2: Rickshaws, Revelations, and Rambunctious Rides
Picture this: me, a clueless explorer armed with a rickshaw as my trusty chariot, careening through the delightful chaos of India's streets. From dodging holy cows to out-negotiating street vendors, every moment was a laugh-inducing adventure. Amidst the vibrant festivals, aromatic spices, and questionable dance moves learned from enthusiastic locals, I realized that PR was the perfect match for my eccentric personality. So, with a belly full of curry and a heart full of laughter, I returned from my Indian escapades ready to conquer the PR world with a comedic flair that would leave even Bollywood stars in stitches. Get ready for a comically chaotic journey filled with PR prowess and an abundance of hilarious tales from my Indian travels!
Chapter 3: Puns, PR, and Pizzazz - Unleashing My Inner PR Comedian
As I stumbled into the world of Public Relations, armed with nothing but a quirky sense of humor and a bucketful of puns, I discovered a hidden talent that would become my secret PR weapon: comedy. With zero experience and a tendency to crack jokes at inappropriate moments, I quickly realized that my unique approach to PR had the potential to make waves. I found that laughter could open doors and captivate audiences. Join me on this hilarious journey of PR self-discovery as I navigate the world of puns, press releases, and PR campaigns that will make you giggle, groan, and question my sanity. Get ready for a rollercoaster ride of comedy, chaos, and PR pizzazz that will leave you wondering if I'm a PR genius or just plain delusional!
Chapter 4: Unconventional Wisdom and Outrageous Outcomes
In a world where textbooks and industry norms ruled the PR realm, I proudly embraced my lack of experience as a gateway to unconventional wisdom. Armed with a wild imagination, a zest for the absurd, and more than a few offbeat ideas scribbled on cocktail napkins, I set out to challenge the status quo. With each audacious campaign, I defied expectations and achieved outcomes that were nothing short of outrageous. Join me on this exhilarating journey as we push the boundaries of PR, transforming industry conventions into comedy gold. Prepare to be amazed as we witness the magic that unfolds when an inexperienced PR novice dares to dream big and unleash the power of unconventional thinking. Get ready for a wild ride of unconventional wisdom, unexpected twists, and outcomes that will leave even the most seasoned PR pros in awe. Together, we'll rewrite the rules and prove that sometimes, the craziest ideas are the ones that make the biggest impact!

Whether you're hosting a small gathering or a large party, these games will keep everyone entertained and engaged throughout the event.
Game 1: Musical Chairs with a Twist
Musical Chairs is a classic party game that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. To add a twist to this game, you can incorporate a theme that resonates with the birthday person. For example, if they love Bollywood music, play popular Hindi songs and ask the participants to dance instead of just walking around the chairs. The last person standing without a chair is eliminated, and the game continues until you have a winner.
Game 2: Bollywood Trivia
Test your guests' knowledge of Bollywood movies, actors, and songs with a lively game of Bollywood Trivia. Create a list of questions related to Indian cinema and divide your guests into teams. The team with the most correct answers wins. This game is not only entertaining but also allows everyone to showcase their Bollywood expertise.
Game 3: Name That Tune
Name That Tune is a fantastic game that challenges your guests' musical knowledge. Create a playlist of popular Hindi songs and play a few seconds of each song. The participants have to guess the name of the song as quickly as possible. You can divide them into teams or play individually. The person or team with the highest number of correct guesses wins.
Game 4: Balloon Burst Relay
Add some excitement to your party with a Balloon Burst Relay. Divide your guests into teams and set up a relay course. Each participant has to pop a balloon by sitting on it to reveal a task or challenge written inside. They have to complete the task and race back to their team to tag the next person. The team that finishes the relay first wins.
Game 5: Housie (Bingo)
Housie, also known as Bingo, is a popular game that brings people together. Create Housie cards with numbers and distribute them to your guests. Call out numbers randomly, and the participants have to mark the corresponding numbers on their cards. The first person to mark all the numbers in a row, column, or diagonal shouts "Housie!" and wins the game. You can prepare small prizes for the winners to add to the excitement.
Game 6: Pictionary
Pictionary is a great game to spark creativity and laughter. Divide your guests into teams and provide them with drawing materials and a whiteboard or large paper. One person from each team selects a word or phrase and has to draw it while their team tries to guess what it is. The team that correctly guesses the most words within a time limit wins the game.
Game 7: Minute to Win It Challenges
Minute to Win It challenges are fast-paced and exhilarating. Set up a series of one-minute challenges such as stacking cups, balancing cookies on the face, or moving objects using only a straw. Each participant has one minute to complete the challenge, and the person who successfully completes the most challenges becomes the ultimate winner.
Game 8: Treasure Hunt
Who doesn't love a thrilling treasure hunt? Create a treasure hunt by hiding clues throughout your home and garden. Each clue leads to the next one until the participants finally discover the hidden treasure. You can customize the clues and challenges based on the birthday person's interests or create a theme around the treasure hunt to make it even more exciting.
Game 9: Karaoke
Unleash the inner rockstar in your guests with a karaoke session. Set up a karaoke machine or use a karaoke app on a computer or smartphone. Provide a wide selection of popular Hindi and English songs for your guests to choose from. Let them take turns singing their favorite tunes and watch as the party comes alive with music and laughter.
Game 10: Charades
Charades is a classic party game that never gets old. Write down various Hindi movie titles, names of actors, or popular phrases on small slips of paper. Divide your guests into teams, and one person from each team acts out the word or phrase without speaking while their teammates try to guess it. The team that correctly guesses the most words within a time limit wins the game.
Game 11: DIY Photobooth
Create a DIY photobooth corner where your guests can capture fun and memorable moments. Set up a backdrop, provide props like funny hats, glasses, and mustaches, and encourage your guests to strike a pose. You can also prepare a box of accessories, such as chalkboards or speech bubbles, where they can write personalized messages. The photos will serve as lasting mementos of the birthday celebration.
Game 12: Pass the Parcel
Pass the Parcel is a delightful game that adds anticipation and excitement to any party. Wrap a gift in multiple layers of wrapping paper, with a small prize or task written on each layer. Sit your guests in a circle and play some upbeat music while they pass the parcel around. When the music stops, the person holding the parcel unwraps one layer and follows the instruction. The game continues until the final layer is unwrapped, and the person who unwraps it gets to keep the prize inside.
Game 13: Beer Pong
For a lively and interactive game, set up a beer pong table. Divide your guests into teams and arrange cups filled with water or non-alcoholic beverages in a triangular formation at each end of the table. Players take turns throwing a ping pong ball across the table, aiming to land it in one of the cups. If the ball lands in a cup, the opposing team must drink the contents. The team that eliminates all the opponent's cups first wins the game.
Game 14: Poker Night
If you're hosting a birthday party for adults who enjoy card games, organize a poker night. Set up multiple tables with decks of cards and poker chips. Teach your guests the basic rules of poker or play variations like Texas Hold'em or Omaha. Engage in friendly competition, bluffing, and strategic decision-making as you enjoy an exciting evening of cards. Provide snacks and drinks to create a true casino-like atmosphere.
Game 15: Dance-Off
Get the party started with a dance-off! Clear a space in your living room or set up a dance floor area. Create a playlist of upbeat and popular songs that will get everyone grooving. Encourage your guests to showcase their best dance moves and have a friendly competition. You can even have judges or let the guests vote for the best dancer. It's a sure way to keep the energy high and create lasting memories.
Conclusion:
Hosting a birthday party at home in India for adults can be an enjoyable and memorable experience. By incorporating these exciting games into your celebration, you can ensure that your guests have a fantastic time. “As you know, live standup comedy did not exist during my childhood. But I used to buy Johnny Lever Sahab’s cassettes and try performing his jokes in front of the mirror. Coincidently, our school was going through renovation at that time, so we were temporarily hosted in a nearby haveli for a while. The school would organise talent shows every once in a while, and I would enact a few Johnny Lever jokes in the haveli’s hall. It was fun, and an early introduction for me to performing in front of others. In college, I made a few friends who were very enthusiastic about dramatics. I would be the one who’d write the script and then we all would enact it. I think we were quite good. There was a time when we participated in a ‘Just a Minute’ competition and bagged the top 3 positions amongst us. That was my tryst with performing arts during my formative & college years, and I thought that I’d never be going back to it. You know, it used to be very difficult for a middle class guy to make a decent living out of it.
But I think my heart was still in comedy. I can vividly recall the times when I used to board a chartered bus to office. I would observe what everyone was doing in the bus and imagine how Raju Srivastava would describe it. He used to set-up the scene with very elaborate descriptions, before transforming it into a laughter riot. I used to enjoy his performances on ‘Great Indian Laughter Challenge’, but didn’t expect myself to be doing something similar in the future.
However, I was lucky that life gave me a second chance and a series of events led me to a serious career in stand-up comedy. I had started an HR consulting company in 2005 after noticing a few gaps in the recruitment industry. The company had grown to about 50 employees, and I was planning to expand it further to 200. I got so busy with work that I decided to hire a business coach who could help me learn how to optimise my time. The idea worked. I was now able to find more time for myself, and I thought “Should I dedicate this time to my long forgotten hobby of dramatics?”. Finding a group of people for dramatics again seemed difficult, but doing open mic performances seemed to be a feasible means to channel my creativity. I googled for open-mics in Delhi and found one that was going to happen that evening itself. Abish Mathew was opening and Papa CJ was doing the main act after a few open mic performances by budding comedians. When I watched the performers, I thought that it was easy and enrolled myself for the next one. But I was wrong. I was getting on stage after 13-14 years, so my hands were trembling. I was supposed to do 5 minutes, but I got off in 3. I made really poor jokes with bad delivery. There were a few forced laughs - just to encourage me, but there was no real laughter. While I bombed my first ever performance, the good part was that I had broken the ice. I kept going for more open-mics - I would do well in a few, and bomb a lot many. I even performed at stand-ups where other comics were the only audience. But it’s so alluring to be stage that you want to go back again and again, and get better each time. Also, I was making a new set of friends. For me, who was a 35 year old running his own company, it was fascinating to become friends with 19 year old college kids, bartenders and copywriters.
Stand-up comedy was still a hobby that I was enjoying, but my business was still my main area of focus. However, I slowly transitioned to a point where stand-up comedy became my main profession. I started maintaining a website and positioned myself as the person who does clean comedy. Clean comedy was a personal choice, but it also served as a great marketing tool for me to get corporate shows - which are a comedian’s bread and butter before he or she gets famous enough to have ticketed events or be on streaming platforms. In fact, my comedy is so clean that my acts have become a regular part of WhatApp family group forwards. But I’m happy with that. I want to create content that I can proudly perform in front of my wife & children or without bothering about a 10-year old kid or a 70-year old uncle who could be sitting in the audience.
I don’t think that I am one of the funniest guys around. Even today, when I watch other comedians, I start thinking, “This guy is so funny. Why would anyone watch me?”, or “I wish I could have stage presence like that guy”. However, I guess what worked for me was that I had my own unique voice that resonated with a certain section of people. I didn’t try to change my voice or content to pander to a certain set of people. In the last three years I have performed in many countries, without changing my language of performance or content in any.
Also, there are many people who are funnier than a lot of comedians that you see on stage. The difference is perseverance. Your ability to get back up after every failure on stage. You need to get there again and again, even if you had bombed for the last 50 times and try to improve your art each time.”

💚As many of you know I was going through a lot emotionally and physically before this big trip to India. 🏝I booked it with the intention of treating myself after a challenging Spring, Summer and I didn’t know then that winter would be added to that list. 👛I went because I needed a tremendous shift and a shift is what I got. 🐟I was like a fish out of water. My sensitivity was heightened as if I was brand new to the world. A completely new time zone, people, smells, sights… it was other worldly. 🤷🏽‍♀️I went through stages: “Wow this is so great!-Why am I so anxious?-What did I get myself into?!!-Why does everything take so long here?-Can I buy all the scarfs?--To finally settling in. 🌴Any time I could get I was grounding. There was so much information at every second. @joanhymanschoolofyoga pushed us and shared valuable information not only about the topics but personal experiences which made her relatable and approachable. Her dedication to this practice is inspiring. On top of that the town gushes with culture in every corner. A lot to take in. 😝I tried so hard to maintain my rituals until I couldn’t keep up. I was running out of time and I finally surrendered. I stopped wearing sports bras a couple of times, wearing lotion or caring about how my hair looked. It felt like I was rebelling against capitalism, the patriarchy and all the unnecessary conditioning. ✈️Oddly enough when arriving I was so scared of the chaos. I felt I needed structure and containment. The Gemini #Vata #pitta #manifestinggenerator nature of me needs it. Or so she thought. 😮‍💨I saw my wounds and shadows show up often on this trip and I almost couldn’t handle it. However I gave myself compassion and grace. I remembered that I’m different and that’s what makes me, me. 🥰I had to go back to my solitude and connect back to Mother Earth. Bringing it all back to me because at the end of the day, I am all I have. 🍄I miss the chaos, the noise as odd as that sounds coming from me, the colors, smells, community, love, connection, land, laughter, my Indian family…. I am no longer in this vortex and I miss the thin veil India provided. Until we meet again Goa 🙏🏼🇮🇳 (at Nalanda Retreat) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoFBbHQLPxU/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
