Hitting so fucking hard.
And that scene, where Cassandra breaks down after charging Varric for 'lying' to her about not knowing about Hawk's where-abouts...
"If I had convinced him why we needed Hawk so much, we wouldn't have needed you."
On my first playthrough, that line stung. 'Am I... still not good enough for you? After all this? Am I still a failure, even after you made me Inquisitor?' But NO.. that isn't what she was so anguished about. Cassandra does see what is happening to the Inquisitor, she does see their idenity being erased. And she's blaming herself for doing that to you.
Cassandra cares or even loves the Inquisitor, that is her FRIEND/LOVER that is carrying the burden of the world on their shoulders. 'If I had found Hawk, then you would never have needed to suffer like this. We would have never needed to ask so much of you.' Is what she was trying to say in that scene, when she says she doesn't deserve to be a part of the Inquisition.
But... by wishing to save another soul, she is condemning her hero, another soul, another friend, and Varric refuses to let that happen. Cassandra is such a complex character, and I adore her for it.
Do you ever think about the fervour and desperation with which Cassandra was searching for Hawke, and the Warden, and then propping up the Inquisitor as Herald?
Do you ever think about Cassandra searching for someone else to lead, someone else to carry that responsibility, someone else to become her saviour?
Do you ever think about the Inquisitor asking her why? Why did you do this to me? Why did you make me into this? What did I do that I deserve you doing this to me? And how dare you judge me? You who refused this weight and shoved it on my shoulders? You who were willing to sacrifice my humanity, but not yours? Did you think your faith was a gift? Did you think it was my duty? Did you think carrying you would be easy? That you were weightless?

I'd love to know what nickname everyone had Varric give their Inquisitor because it's something that I've been struggling with for years now and I simply refuse to go with Handy or Lucky like Bioware nearly did
#save me dragon age fandom save me#i even went through a list of all the different plants in thedas to see if any of them fit like daisy or buttercup and nothing felt right#dragon age#varric tethras#the inquisitor#dragon age inquisition#my.dath#my.dai#my.og

As a new player to Inquisition (literally I'm playing it right now!!!!) after having played DATV a bunch of times, I feel like I can confidently say the Inquisitor journey I'm going through right now is blowing my mind cause it's totally mirroring Solas.
Its what's actually awesome about playing DATV first!! I can see this clearly! I'm getting so much more insight into Solas and his Evanuris journey through the Inquisitor.
These similarities make me think of DATV and actually how different Rook is. Rook is the fucking leader of an elite specialist cell with a targeted goal. And I know others have said Rook is a foil and I think that's more accurate? to me at least and how i understand it.
So I was making a list:
Solas and Inquisitor mirror aspects:
Solas needs to restore his world = Inquisitor needs to restore the world.
Solas is called Dread Wolf, Fen'Harel = The Inquisitor is called Herald, Heretic, Inquisitor.
Solas had to deal with the Evanuris as a massive corrupt entity = Inquisitor has to deal with Inquisition and Chantry the same
Solas rebelled against Evanuris = Inquisitor (and Inquisition) rebelling against Chantry, Orlais, etc.
Solas is an ideologue = actually so is the Inquisitor if you think about it, they are making decisions around belief, systems, politics
Solas (Dread Wolf) is a symbol = Inquisitor (Herald) is one too.
Solas and Rook opposite/contrast aspects:
Rook is like change and adaptability, fly by the seat of their pants - Solas is stuck, he's focused on certainty and control.
Rook is NOT deified like Solas or the Inquisitor, I love that Rook is just this normal person who is kinda thrust into leadership (I mean so is the inquisitor but i can see how after inquisition the inquisitor has a lot to lose and they need to get away and hide but Rook, i feel like Rook can lead a normal life marrying their beloved Neve (ok my beloved Neve) and helping to rebuild after).
Rook isn't an idealogue, Rook isn't trying to impose worldviews or change political systems, they're just trying to fix what's fucking broke! Rook has an immediate threat to deal with.
Rook has a small elite team, not an institution or a large scale rebellion army to lead. They get others to help them but it's cool to me that Rook and the others are this sleek, lean team.
Rook deals in relationships, building connections with other groups so they can all help each other in the end. Solas and Inquisitor make the decisions FOR others.
Rook doesn't need control - Solas and Inquisitor do to make their decisions but Rook just is like, let's goooo!!!
I think Rook and Solas being opposites is why Solas can't ever actually get a foothold on to Rook and clearly doesn't expect Rook to escape the regret prison. I think if they were mirrors of each other, Solas would have the upper hand.
it's why i think it's neat that solas is a spirit and they reflect - and that his time in inquisition was probably his most peaceful time cause that period reflects him more in his youth, like closer to his spirit self. I think inquisition is a time for solas where he can be challenged but also understood. And to have the choice to disband the inquisition is brilliant! Solas wanted to tear down the Evanuris, and the Inquisitor tears down the inquisiton before it can be corrupted - it's a great part of the story.
I don't know those are just my thoughts cause I saw @cussundria-nerd-kneal talk about parallels and it got my brain moving pretty fast. I guess I should have reblogged it but I was worried I would go on too long. lolll
does anyone else have thoughts or think of things differently?
#datv#solas#rook#the inquisitor#solas and inquisitor are mirrors#solas and rook are more contrasting opposites to me#i love all their stories#its pretty cool that rook is leading this small team against such big odds#dragon age veilguard#dragon age inquisition

What Veilguard Could Have Been
Very saddened to hear the news about Bioware. As much as I was disappointed with Dragon Age The Veilguard, it was a fun game and I did not wish for the series to end. That being said, for those of you who haven't seen the artbook, I want to share the initial ideas and concepts of the team behind the game. Here's what Veilguard could have and should have been.
Characters from Previous Games
Morrigan, Dorian and Isabela were supposed to be our advisors. They also had better outfits.
Sten, Cole and Shale were some other characters featured in the artbook. An early idea for Cole was to act as a compassionate voice to Solas.
The Divine was supposed to make an appearance, sending out ships to hunt Solas in the hopes that his capture will restore peace to Thedas.
We were supposed to receive assignments from the Inquisitor.
Another idea was for us to return to the Fade and rescue whoever was left behind in Inquisition.
Solas as a True Leader
Elves from all over Thedas were supposed to answer Solas' call, as presented in the ending screens of Inquisition.
Solas' appearance was supposed to be more of a surprise.
Solas was supposed to return like a regal figure out of the distant past.
Game Mechanics
The game was focused more on espionage and sneaking around. We were supposed to go on cool missions, like infiltrating the Archon's throne room.
Another idea was for us to ride adult griffons, hunting dragons.
Or to go on secret missions in Tevinter, accurately depicted here with slaves and slavers.
Story and Setting
The dwarves were supposed to be fleeing the underground by the thousands. Cause is left unknown.
We were supposed to go to Par Vollen, the home of the Qunari.
Companions had the option to betray us.
We were supposed to go in disguise to a ball in the Necropolis.
Another idea was for Solas to interrupt our mission, wiping half of our team off the board and forcing us to make an unlikely alliance.
Solas was supposed to summon a Titan in the final battle.
We were supposed to get a happy ending with our love interests.
Headquarters
And last but not least, our base was first supposed to be a ship, sailing to all the places we would visit.
We would have a war table room, similar to Inquisition.
The ship could get stolen and we would have to get it back.
However, thematically, boats don't line up with the spy theme. They're too easy to spot and attack. So the ship was transformed into a submarine.
The submarine was already named The Dumat, after an Archdemon.
These are just the parts I found most interesting from the artbook, which has more than 200 pages. I wonder who saw all these ideas and went nah, let's scrap them. I guess we'll never know.

i love how much it fucking sucks to be the protagonist of a da game. you did not choose this and will be seen as a legend but when the story is over you have nothing and everyone leaves you. unless you're rook then you did sign up for this and you get to keep your found family as everyone heralds you as a hero
#the way if i was the hero of fereldan i would kill everyone. i understand why they never bothered with the world after origins#hawke and the inquisitor have nothing but my respect but the warden has the only reasonable reaction here#i saved your world against my will once already you will and all it cost was everything. you will not see me do it willingly#dragon age#dragon age origins#dragon age 2#dragon age inquisition#dragon age veilguard#datv#rook#the inquisitor#garrett hawke#marian hawke#hero of ferelden
