OK, so I know that this is going to piss off fans from both the Paul Street Boys and The Outsiders fandoms, but honestly, I don't care.
The Paul Street Boys/Pál utcai fiúk and The Outiders are way more similar than people think they are.
1.) They focus on young teenage boys (obviously..)
2.) The protagonist(s) live in poverty (Nemescek is from a poor family, the greasers such as the Curtis brothers come from poor families and poor neighbourhoods)
3.) The boys are seperated into two groups (The Paul Street Boys and The Red Shirts, The Greasers and The Socs respectively)
4.) The protagonist(s) die(s) (Nemescek dies at the end of the book, Dallas and Johnny die during the book)
5.) There is a final confrontation/battle between the two groups, which is shown at the novel (The Paul Street Boys vs the Red Shirts, The Greasers vs The Socs)
6.) The book starts casually and the groups are introduced from the get go, as well, the introduction of the opposite group starts by some members of the group doing morally questionable stuff (The Pásztor brothers of the Red Shirts steal from Nemescek, the Socs beat up Johnny) (both have happened in the past)
7.) Some people from the protagonist group do morally questionable things (The Putty Club bullying Nemescek, Johnny accidentally killing Bobby, a Soc)
8.) One of the characters either dropped from school or got expelled from school (Sodapop dropped from school, Feri Ats got expelled from school,(that is more of a rumor but still...))
9.) One of the characters has a bad reputation (Dallas Winston, Feri Ats)
10.) There is a lack of adult and female characters in the novels (they don't add anything much to the plot)
11.) The boys are described to be good looking (Sodapop and Ponyboy, Feri Ats and Csele)
12.) Both books are set in a historical period (1960s USA, 1880s Austro-Hungary, Hungary)
13.) Both books were published in historical periods (1960s, 1900s)
14.) The opposite team treats the protagonist team like trash (The Socs treat the Greasers like crap, The Redshirts have zero respect for the Paul Street Boys, expect for Nemescek, which their Ats, respect a LOT)
15.) Both books have Ho Yay (homoerotic/homoromantic subtext) (Johnny/Dallas, Johnny/Ponyboy, Ponyboy/Dallas, Boka/Nemescek, Feri Ats/Nemescek, Boka/Gereb I guess)
16.) The members of the opposite group drown one of the protagonists (Bob drowning Ponyboy, The Pátszor brothers drowning Nemescek)
17.) Both protagonists remember horrible things done to them in the past (see point 6)
18.) There is a cute precious character who looks up to an older boy, wants their love and die at the end (see point d, Nemescek, Johnny))
19.) Said older boy loves them, protects them from harm and mourns them a lot when they die (Boka with Nemescek, Dallas Winston with Johnny Cade)
20.) One of the protagonists has blonde hair, blue eyes and dies at the end (Nemescek, Dallas Winston)
And this is probably tip of the iceberg. If anyone has read both books and has noticed other similarities between the two books that aren't listed, you're more than welcome to add them.
silly little outsiders fanfiction my ela teacher has yet to read
Ponyboy Curtis was always a good kid. Very smart, obeyed rules, and very friendly. He's the only one out of his brothers who's still in school and loves to read and write. He found comfort in poetry and nature, much unlike the other Greasers, but he was a grease all the same.
Naturally, being a bookworm, he found no trouble completing writing assignments and whatnot–Especially free rein ones. Living apart of a group loathed by society and getting into all sorts of trouble because of it always made exciting stories to tell. Not many school-appropriate ones, but stories nevertheless.
So, why was it so hard to write now?
The boy with awkwardly blonde hair sat with his head resting on his fists over a desk. He fiddled with his pencil, staring at the blank sheet of paper before him.
He knew his decided topic well, but it troubled him to tell the tale. It was tragic. The dark red pool, the gunshots, the fire, It was a lot to process. Ponyboy often got stuck in his mind thinking about it and couldn't get out.
He sighed heavily and got up from his chair, grabbed a folder and his paper, and walked out of his room. As contradicting as it sounded, he needed a breath of fresh air and a good smoke.
He passed by his brother Darrell, who was reading the daily paper in the kitchen.
"Ponyboy, where are you goin’?” Darry looked up at his brother.
“I’m goin’ to the lot,” Ponyboy muttered back, not even looking at Darrell.
Now was Pony's favorite time of day, nearing dusk. When the sun glowed in the middle of the sky, painting the atmosphere in pink, yellow, and orange rays. The clouds shone and moved slowly over the Earth. It was chilly out, but the beautiful scene put a warmth in his heart. He loved sunsets. He thought them real pretty, like Cherry Valance.
Naturally, he went to one of his favorite places to sit and think, the lot. Ponyboy had spent many nights, evenings, and afternoons in this very lot, whether he had been smoking, crying, or just hanging out. However, it is much different nowadays because of one thing. Johnny wasn’t there.
Johnny Cade was his best friend and the sweetest boy he’d ever known. Johnny was quiet, honest, and kind. Much like Pony, he was a little different from the other Greasers in that way. The number of times they’d hung out together was as many as the stars. You’d always see them right by each other’s side, whether it was at a rumble, a party, or even a murder scene. They went together like PB & J. And they were, literally.
If it wasn’t Dallas, Ponyboy was the first person Johnny would go to to vent. He could talk about virtually anything with Pony because he was so understanding. Sometimes, you could see Sodapop through Pony in his own way—instead of making people laugh and feel relaxed, he had a comforting demeanor that can make a person feel safe and able to be honest. They could both make a person feel good. Ponyboy was always there to listen to Johnny whenever he wanted to rant about his home life. It was too much to bear for him, and just talking to his best friend made him feel a whole lot better. Sometimes, Johnny couldn’t even get his words out and just cried to him. Seeing Johnny in absolute shambles broke Pony’s heart, but he knew this was just a way Johnny showed how he felt, and crying made him feel a bit better.
He sat on a log, drew, and lit a joint from his pocket. His empty green eyes bore into the lighter flame. Only a w–d would bring him comfort right now.
There were no more shared stories over makeshift bonfires and cigarettes, improper sleepovers, or the mere peace of the night upon two dumb little boys who were happy together. There was only the sickening silence of the evening when nobody was around.
As much as it frustrated Ponyboy, he had to accept that Johnny was gone forever.
If it weren’t for that damned fire, he’d still be here, alive and mostly well. If he were still here, the Greasers would be the same again.
Pony felt his eyes sting, pricked with tears. If he were still here, Dallas would be alive and with them. If he were still here, Ponyboy would have always had his best friend to turn to. They were so young. Too young.
He ripped the cigarette from his teeth, crushing it to ash in his hands as tears spilled from his eyes. Soon, they were pouring like a waterfall and he found it hard to keep quiet.
“Sixteen years wasn’t long enough,” He said through gritted teeth, “Sixteen damn years wasn’t long enough!..”
He threw the w–d to the ground, angrily grinding it with his shoe. Salty tears mixed in with the dirty ash as it disintegrated into nothing. Then he stopped.
Ponyboy wearily sat back down, full-blown sobbing into his hands. He furiously wiped away his tears, but he couldn’t stop them. He felt 13 years old again, wailing at his parents’ graves, and all the questions came back.
Why’d it happen?
Where are they?
Why couldn’t I go with them?
Why did they leave us?
Why did they leave me?
Why did they leave me? Why did they leave me? Why did they leave me? Why did they leave me? Why did they leave me? Why did they leave me? Why did they leave me? Why did they leave me?
W h y d i d t h e y l e a v e m e?
That night, Ponyboy fell asleep in the lot and got a D on his assignment the next day.
