Bluesy rock from 無妄合作社 No-nonsense Collective   =D

They formed in 2016: 郭力瑋-guitar/vocal (also in The Deposers 罷黜者), 謝秉男-guitar, 謝碩元-bass/vocal, 邱孝齊-drums.  Lots of shifting moods in the tune, and really solid arrangement by the band. Full a/v credits back at YT.

Next up, イルカポリス 海豚刑警 (Dolphin Police?) 伍悅 (Marko Woo)-voc/gtr/melodica/silly faces, 徐子權 (徐子)-gtr/voc (also in DSPS, 午休失眠 WSSM Band). 

I think that is 鐘奕安 on bass (he plays guitar with 厭世少年 Angry Youth). 

Not sure who is back there on the drum kit; 吳程笛 (fr. 厭世少年 Angry Youth) played with them in 2018, but 郭逸萱 Yi-Hsuan Ko (Avery Kuo) has been playing with them recently. She is also in Children in Love.

TheNextBigThingTW uploaded a big pile of showcase clips from 2018 today, including 2 from electro trio 莉莉周她說 Lily Chou-Chou Lied. =D

The band are: 大慶 Ral Chen-Vocal/Bass/Program (also in 眠腦 Sleeping Brain)

楊先妤 Vio (Viona Yang)-Vocal/Percussion/Synth (Drummer in 午休失眠 WSSM Band)

又銓 Sean Yu Chuan Chen-Drums/Perc. (also in Yellowback 野樂派)

They haven’t posted anything on fb since late last year, but I just read on Instagram that this showcase in November was the last gig of the year for the band, and then they were gonna take a break and come back with more music in 2019.  Well, as we have seen with many bands we follow, those short planned ‘breaks’ have a tendency to turn into prolonged hiatus. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen with 莉莉周她說 Lily Chou-Chou Lied!

‘新台灣後民謠 Nu Taiwan Post Folk’ from 老王樂隊.  This is on their late-2017 ep, available at iNDIEVOX

Good songs & good sound from this unit, and 邵佳瑩’s cello seals the deal for me. Very classy!  =D

Listen/purchase: Wandering / 徘徊 by DoZzz

Long-time readers may remember the band How You Fu? They had several beautiful demos plus an ep Part of ___ released at the end of 2014.  

The band kinda mysteriously stopped without any announcement that I could find, but then singer/synth player 林欣逸 Alicia Lin surfaced in 2015 with a gorgeous song called Beautiful on the first Dark Paradise Records electronica compilation. The band name is Fish In The Sky, and I think it was just Alicia Lin and guitarist 徐欣佑 (also fr. How You Fu). And that project, too, seems to be dormant/defunct?

Anyway, fast-forward to 2017 and there’s a debut ep from a band called DoZzz. They formed in summer of 2016, and I had never seen any mention of them until last week when Alicia suddenly posted about the ep!   They are a shoegaze band, and that genre always involves a lot of swirly, echoing/reverberant guitar. Well, DoZzz take the swirly ambience to an extreme – the effected guitars almost sound like keyboards!  Very dreamy soundscape.  =D

The DoZzz fb lists the band Alicia-synth/vocal, 騏-gtr, 小麥-gtr, Han Wu-bass, 毛毛-drums.  I haven’t seen any photos (or real names) of the band, so I can’t say for sure if any of these peeps were also in How You Fu.

Yesterday was a busy day for TheNextBigThingTW channel, they posted over 30 videos from early 2017!  

Up above, that’s U.TA 屋塔 from the January 8th showcase, high quality a/v doing beautiful justice to their dreampop/psychedelic style.  =D

From a November, 2018 showcase of TheNextBigThingTW, let’s check out Siàu-lú khah-lah / 少女卡拉  

They opened their current fb in late 2017, but they were around before then –perhaps on hiatus, if I’m reading the translation correctly.  And I think they sing in Taiwanese language. 

The members are: Ti Ka Ng-Voc/gtr, Tan-nî Chiou (邱丹霓)-bass/voc, 陳秉強 Louis Chen-gtr, 王柏元 (王小犬)-drums.

In late February, 李鑫 from StreetVoice did an ‘interview’ with the 林瑪黛 matelin human/animal hybrid creature 林瑪黛.  Creation of VJ artist 小油画 / little oil @littleoil that has been a consistent visual for the band from the beginning; you can see it appear on the rear screen of this performance from a TheNextBigThingTW showcase in 2013:

TheNextBigThingTW just started a stream 2 minutes ago, and Ma-te Lin 林瑪黛 is playing. =D

 I think this is an old showcase from a few years ago, tho - just to test the stream?

Yeah, they’re just testing stuff. They stopped this stream, and started another stream shortly thereafter.

Nineteentael 十九兩樂團  (Achino Chang 張瀚中 (阿雞) & Riecky Lu 瑞奇)

I’ve already begun begging for English subtitles or at least to have an English translation included with the lyrics.  =D

Alulu Kuo worked extensively with the band on the Video/DVD.  She sings/plays accordion with Riecky in 愛的養樂多 Yakult Psyche

This song, 探長馬提諾 Detective Martino, has been in their repertoire for a long time! We’ve posted this clip before, but this is a beautiful quality a/v from TheNextBigThingTW in 2012:

Everything that I loved about them from the beginning: their charming playing, Riecky’s story-telling, how much fun they have on stage.  =D

TheNextBigThingTW uploaded a big batch of 2016 clips this week, recapping a lot of highlights from their monthly showcases. (the 2017 schedule is already underway, they had a 2-day event last weekend)

Here is The Forest Party 森林ㄌㄜˋ園 with a easygoing, funky tune. Tight & fun band!   =D

I can’t stop with just one, so let’s hear one from Ma-te Lin 林瑪黛:

They have been not very active on fb lately, more animal welfare than musical activity. I hope Asha 林意倩 has been writing songs! 

Shao-Yong Huang 黃少雍 has the electronica label Dark Paradise Records, in addition to his arranging work. (Dark Paradise has 3 compilations now) Yi-Chi Lin 林易祺 is very active with his band Vast & Hazy, besides playing with 詹森淮 Riva Jan.
