Eurovision 2005 - Number 11 - Jorun Erdal - "I Am Rock 'n' Roll"
Wig Wam weren't the only rockers at Melodi Grand Prix in 2005. Finishing just behind them in second place, was Jorun Erdal proclaiming that she is rock 'n' roll. It's a bold statement and one that she's going to need to back up.
This is her second time at MGP, the first coming in 2000 when she made it to the super-final, but ended up in fourth place. She does have quite the history in the rock industry. In the 1980's she was in the Norwegian band Ice until she exhausted her voice. She spent seven whole year as a backing vocalist in revue shows. 850 of them. Her vocal chords must have been made of titanium after that.
There was one brief hit single in the 1990s under the name of Paparazzi Madam before her association with MGP. In 1999, her extensive hard graft in music industry got the gig as one of the judges. She liked it so much she began entering.
For 2005, her song is I Am Rock 'n' Roll by Claes Andreasson, Tommy Denander and Torbjörn Wassenius. The first and last name in that list are prolific national finals contributors in the mid 2000s. They wrote Arlene Wilkes's entry from 2004 and would go on to write Pirates of the Sea for Latvia as well as several other national final songs. This song is blast of old school, stage rock that allows Jorun to demonstrate her magnificent vocal power as well her control over it. It may not be metal, but it is rock drawn from the deep well of rock's history.
It came second. Norway was definitely enjoying a rock year. Especially that one guy in the audience who doesn't want to sit down. The super-final this year got over 240,000 televotes combined and those were relatively evenly spread between the four finalists. Jorun got 64,000 of them. Despite missing out relatively narrowly, Jorun was back for more in 2006, teaming up with Geir Rönning and once again making the super-final. She is consistent.
After 2007 she finally quit music. She decided she wanted to return to her home town of Oppstryn and took a job as a taxi driver there. Since then she's trained as a podiatrist.

Vitalines - Wheels Within Wheels
Release Date: 20 Oct 2023
Vitalines is a new Melodic Rock alliance formed by two luminaries of the genre. It sees US singer Robbie LaBlanc (Blanc Faces, Find Me, T3nors) partnering with esteemed Swedish songwriter, musician and studio wizard Tommy Denander. Having worked together in various capacities on numerous records in the past, their debut album as a duo, ‘Wheels Within Wheels' was released last month.
Tommy Denander says, “Robbie has been at the top of my wish list of amazing singers to work with for a long time, so I am beyond thrilled to have created something this strong with him. Vitalines means ‘life lines’ and both Robbie and I have lived our lives with a sincere passion for music. That comes together on shared ground whenever we work together.”
The pair have been planning to work together on a pure Melodic Rock album for several years. When the right time came, both immediately accepted the opportunity. Setting a high musical bar from the off, the result is a fantastic melodic journey that will be adored by fans of Toto, Journey, Survivor and Foreigner.

Vitalines veröffentlichen im Oktober Wheels Within Wheels

Cry Of Dawn - Anthropocene
Release Date: 19 May 2023
The melodic rock/AOR project Cry Of Dawn released a new album entitled ‘Anthropocene’ earlier this month.
Fronted by go-to Swedish lead vocalist Göran Edman, Cry Of Dawn's self-titled debut album was well received back in 2016, but this new release sees the talented singer sounding positively inspired.
Göran has worked in numerous genres since making his recording debut in 1984, including neo-classical metal and progressive rock, as well as AOR. His vocal stylings can be heard on records by John Norum, Yngwie Malmsteen, Brazen Abbot and Glory, among others.
Partnered with compatriot Tommy Denander, whose songwriting, production and guitar skills have been heard on records by numerous musical icons over the years, the duo have crafted a classic sounding record that recalls the glory years of the AOR genre, with Göran Edman's enthusiasm for this musical style shining through.
A video for the first single from the album, the song 'Devil's Highway' is available online.
Lineup
Göran Edman - vocals
Tommy Denander - guitars, bass, keyboards
Fredrik Blomgren - drums
