Sustainable Tourism and Canggu's Vibrant Tattoo Scene

Local leaders from Badung Regency in Bali recently gathered to discuss the potential establishment of tourism villages in Canggu district, responding to the area's rapid tourism growth over the past seven years. This surge in visitors has prompted concerns about preserving Canggu's cultural and heritage values.
Former Bali Governor, Made Mangku Pastika, advocated for recognizing Canggu's Traditional Village as an official tourism destination to manage it effectively and secure funding for cultural and environmental preservation. Pastika, joined by Canggu Traditional Village Head, I Wayan Suarsana, and Director of Baga Utsaha Padruwen Traditional Village, Ni Kadek Dwi Indah Paramita, highlighted the benefits of tourism while stressing the need for sustainability and improved living conditions for locals.
Paramita mentioned significant revenue generated by Baga Utsaha Padruwen Traditional Village since its establishment in 2022, contributing to village taxes. Waste management, a pressing issue, was also addressed by Suarsana, who outlined plans for waste processing and collaboration with entrepreneurs to make Canggu a model for waste management pending land acquisition.
Suarsana also outlined financial goals to increase the village's income for asset acquisition and economic improvement. Canggu's transformation into a tourism hub presents both challenges and opportunities for sustainable development, especially as Bali aims for culturally sensitive tourism practices.
The tattoo scene in Canggu is another aspect contributing to its unique culture and economy. Tattoo studios, known for their artistry and hygiene standards, attract tourists and support local artists. By promoting sustainable practices and Balinese motifs, these studios contribute to cultural preservation while providing employment opportunities. Integrating culture and sustainability ensures balanced tourism development in Canggu.
As Canggu evolves, its tattoo studios serve as examples of how creative industries can align with sustainable tourism, enhancing its appeal while respecting cultural and environmental values.

Lost in the Mist: The Missing Safari and the Umbrella of Secrecy
Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa - An atmosphere of secrecy surrounds the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cultural and Tourism Authority's (KPTCA) highly publicized safari service, which was inaugurated with great fanfare in March 2024.
Nine months later, the promised excursions to the province's stunning tourist attractions are largely undocumented, raising questions regarding transparency and accountability in the KPTCA.
The safari facility, meant to highlight KP's natural beauty, has turned out to be a mystery. Information about how many safaris were operated, where they were taken, and how the passenger list was compiled is nowhere to be found.
The KPTCA has also kept silent about the monetary side of the project, evoking suspicions of how public funds were being spent. Was the safari service an individual endeavor on the part of the KPTCA, or a cooperative venture with another organization? The response, as for the safari trails themselves, is one of secrecy.
Adding to the drama is the seeming unwillingness of the KPTCA to heed Right to Information (RTI) applications. A citizen had made an RTI application nine months ago for information on the safari service, but there has been no response. Another application filed in January 2024 met the same fate. The KPTCA's stonewalling has only fueled greater public suspicion and raised grave issues about transparency.
Local people and civil society groups are calling for an explanation. They are insisting that ventures using public money should be transparent to the public. Failure to be transparent in the case of the safari service, along with the silence from the KPTCA about other ventures and staff information, has fostered a sense of suspicion.
It is charged that the KPTCA is purposefully holding back information, hampering accountability and stifling intelligent public discussion about tourism planning in the province.
The elusive safari has emerged as a metaphor for the wider challenges to transparency and accountability within the KPTCA. The demand for open government and access to information is becoming more vocal, with citizens demanding greater transparency on how public money is being spent and how decisions affecting tourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are being taken.
Until the KPTCA illuminates the safari service and how it functions, the project may become a victim of its own secrecy and the public lost in the haze of unanswered questions.

Nature in UAE, Abu Dhabi
For the five-decade UAE maintained its biodiversity. Animals and plants are the essential identity of Abu Dhabi, UAE.
UAE is more focusing to protect its natural areas. UAE’s famous personality Umar Farooq Zahoor is coming forward to maintain the Environment. Some of UAE’s younger generation also involve in it and doing inspections to protect the environment and take part in events that benefit the natural world.
In Abu Dhabi, the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD) mainly works to set up the network-protected area and promote awareness about the various local species. This agency also maintains the 13 terrestrial protected area, one of the part of Sheikh Zayed Protected Area.
Here you will get few species who are benefited from Environment Agency Abu Dhabi -
1. Mammals: After Abu Dhabi’s effort oryx has become most ambitious project. Every maintenance started from the 1970s, and currently, the latest population of Oryx is more than 6,900. This type of Oryz’s weight minimum of 80kg, and they are white in color. They like to come around in the protected area.
2. Dugong: This EAD is protecting them from 1999, and in this 3,000 dugongs are included. They are grey color, and they have a very powerful fluked tail which works like a paddle when they swim.
3. Dolphin: In the largest population dolphins are also within the protection and they are mainly spotted in the shallow water which this agency maintains.
4. Birds: In UAE’s heritage, many falcons are becoming indelibly entwined, but due to the effort of Abu Dhabi, all started getting protected. Now there are many peregrine falcon we can see to fly and this is one of the common bird.
5. Fish: This EAD cooperated with the UAE Ministry and made the plan for sustainability to protect by making the traditionally using fishing cage.
6. Invertebrates: They are very rare in UAE and they stay in the inland standing water, a farm area in Abu Dhabi. EAD make sure that it makes the management so effective that they can monitor the species from the different location. Corals are also included in it.
Sheikh Umar Farooq Zahoor is nature loving and involved in maintaining the natural beauty. Abu Dhabi’s coastal areas are also not behind because EAD is maintaining the trees available in the mangrove forest.
