Toyota Corolla (1993-Present)

This post continues to show how the Corolla changed from being a standard compact car in 1993 to being one of the most best-selling cars in the world by 2020.

1993-1997 Toyota Corolla (E100)

The E100 generation was a much larger, heavier, and more aerodynamic car, than the E90 Corolla generation. It had also moved into the class of compact cars, taking the place of the Corona and the Camry.

1998-2002 Toyota Corolla (E110)

The E110 generation shared the bodystyle (and even doors on most variants) as the previous generation of Corolla. For this generation, the Base, XLi, GLi, and SE-G trim levels were introduced as well.

2003-2008 Toyota Corolla (E120/130)

The E120/E130 Generation came with a longer wheelbase. This generation of the Corolla in particular, was designed as a global car to suit the market needs of different countries, which helped it become one of the most popular generation of Corollas ever sold. This generation also sparked the production of the Toyota Matrix hatchback, which sold in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

2009-2013 Toyota Corolla (E140/E150)

This generation of Corolla was based on the E120 generation, which is seen by the similar designed bodystyle and doors. However, the E140s which were sold in the U.S. (and most of Asia) used the wider version of the E140 platform, while South Africa and other countries were sold the E150 edition. This generation of Corolla shared similar styling components to both the Camry and the Yaris, and overall improved in driving conditions compared to the previous generation. In the 2011 model, not only was the Corolla given a slight facelight (with new front and rear designs as well as changes to the interior). The XLE and XRS trims were discontinued in the U.S.

2014-2019 Toyota Corolla (E170/E180)

For this generation, the Corolla had an increase in the length of its wheelbase. The front and rear design for the North American E170 was based on the Toyota Furia concept car. This generation was offered in the L, LE, S, and introduced the LE Eco as well. The Corolla had also become the world's best-selling car by this point. By the 2015 model year, a Special Edition Corolla, based on the S trim was introduced, and in the 2017 model year, not only was the S trim replaced with an SE trim, the XSE was introduced as well the Corolla recieving new exterior paint options.

2020-Present Toyota Corolla (E210)

The current generation of the Corolla to date includes a hatchback and station wagon variations in addition to the sedan. In the 2022 model year, the Corolla introduced a GR Corolla based on the hatchback. The L (or base model) was dropped for this generation in the U.S. and the Corolla remains the best-selling sedan in the world with 1.6% of the market.

TOP 20: THE BEST VEHICLES FOR THE FAMILY IN 2020 ACCORDING TO PARENTS MAGAZINE

Once again this year, Parents magazine gets wet by naming its best choices of vehicles for the family. Unlike last year, however, the publication is expanding its list of recommended vehicles to 20 (instead of 10 in 2019). Indeed, the magazine’s list this year includes a few additional categories, with the utility segment making up the majority of the models listed, unsurprisingly.

The magazine also considered the safety assessments carried out by the American institute NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). What’s more, the ‘family’ angle of the top 20 requires a test with child seat expert Abbie Patterson. Patterson, owner of the Super Car Seat Geek company, has tested all types of child booster seats in more than 50 car models.

Finally, automotive columnist Rob Stumpf, took the wheel of the vehicles in the child seat test to evaluate braking, steering, acceleration and a host of other parameters.

Without further ado, here’s the list of the 20 best family vehicles for 2020 according to Parents magazine.

Minivans – Best Value: Kia Sedona

In the minivan segment, Kia Sedona takes home the honours with the best value for money because of its more affordable price in its basic livery. However, the magazine notes that it is not possible to secure three child seats in the second row in the least expensive model. The automatic transmission (from 6 to 8 gears since the 2019 model year) is good for smooth shifting.

Minivans – Best Green Choice: Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid

Chrysler’s representative in the ultra-family minivan segment is currently the only option (in the North American market) marketed with a charging cable. This rechargeable hybrid powertrain lowers average fuel consumption without penalizing performance, while the government rebate is not to be ignored here either. The Pacifica Hybrid will have to watch its back, as we already know that the next Toyota Sienna will be available with a hybrid powertrain.

Minivans – Best choice for large families: Honda Odyssey

Honda’s Odyssey is also an excellent choice, especially since the manufacturer has decided to offer its 10-speed automatic transmission on all trim levels. As reported in the magazine, the versatility of the Odyssey is unparalleled, as the minivan can accommodate up to six child seats at the same time. It’s also the most fun to drive.

Minivans – Best in all weather conditions: Toyota Sienna

Toyota’s Sienna retains its competitive edge once again this year with its optional all-wheel drive system. This increased traction is undoubtedly an asset when road conditions are more difficult, as is its powerful V6 engine, but the Sienna will have to count the Chrysler Pacifica among its direct rivals next year, the American manufacturer having already confirmed the arrival of a four-wheel drive version of its Pacifica.

Three-row SUV – Best Value: Volkswagen Atlas

When the German automaker launched the development of its three-row SUV, it clearly had North America as its target. The magazine was especially seduced by the affordable price of the SUV in its most accessible version.

Three-row SUV – Better Redesign: Toyota Highlander

The change of model for 2020 does him the greatest good, the former Highlander which had been in service since model year 2014. While the publication praises the new design, it’s also in terms of handling that the Toyota representative has improved, especially in terms of suspension. Aging, the Nissan Pathfinder still seems capable of seducing a publication that mainly observes a vehicle’s family characteristics. Here, the safety systems are convincing, as is that horn blast heard after every drive where one of the rear doors has been opened before or while driving. This device reminds the driver that he or she may have a child – or even a pet – strapped to the rear.

Three-row SUV – Best Design: Mazda CX-9

Mazda is certainly not a brand with countless financial resources, but on the other hand, the design of the most recent seasons seems to appeal to the general public. In fact, despite its introduction in 2017, Mazda’s largest SUV has not aged a single wrinkle. The CX-9’s driving pleasure should not be forgotten either.

Two-row SUV – Best Quiet Ride: Buick Envision

The three-shield division has long been associated with the silence of its interior. The Buick Envision, assembled in China, is no exception to this rule thanks to the noise reduction system.

Parents magazine mentions the excellence of the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, but this mill is reserved for the more upscale versions. In the other trim levels, the driver has to deal with a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine and a six-speed transmission only.

Two-row SUV – Best steering system: Chevrolet Equinox

It’s true that the Chevrolet Equinox comes with a reputation for being poorly assembled and less durable than average. But since its redesign for the 2018 model year, the compact SUV does much better in terms of driving experience, and even overall quality. Parents magazine found the Chevrolet’s steering to be particularly precise, while its powertrain is powerful enough.

Two-row SUV – Better space for child seats: Ford Edge

When it comes to space for child seats, the Ford Edge is second to none, according to the publication. This allows for three seats, a rarity in the two-row SUV segment. The Ford Edge is also one of the most comfortable.

Two-Row SUV – Best Redesign : GMC Terrain

Best redesign award for two-row SUVs goes… drum roll – at GMC Terrain! Oddly enough, the redesign was completed for the 2018 model year at the same time as the Chevrolet Equinox, but hey, it’s the magazine’s choice! The article also mentions the more comfortable suspension on the Denali model.

Two-Row SUV – Best Green Choice: Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid

Sedans – Best Value for a Hybrid: Honda Accord Hybrid

In the arguments listed by Parents magazine, the Honda Accord Hybrid sedan doesn’t cost much more than the regular model, while trunk space is no longer handicapped by a battery stowed behind the rear seat. The Accord Hybrid is also not an unpleasant car to drive.

Sedans – Best in all weather conditions: Subaru Legacy

The manufacturer has made it its hobbyhorse: four-wheel drive guarantees superior traction in winter. The Nissan Altima has joined the Legacy’s direct rivals with an AWD system, but it’s not a permanent type like Subaru’s.

The redesign for 2020 has certainly helped in this case, the sedan can now be ordered with a more energetic 4-cylinder turbocharged flatbed engine.

Sedans – Best sports car: Nissan Maxima

This was its angle of attack when it was redesigned for the 1989 model year in North America. The Four Door Sports Car still stands out from its peers today because of its relatively dynamic driving dynamics. However, Toyota’s effort is worth mentioning with its Avalon XSE, a large sedan that is surprisingly fun to drive. In the United States, there’s also a TRD livery!

Sedans – Best Hybrid Sports Car: Toyota Camry Hybrid

Still, it’s surprising to see that the hybrid versions are now the sportiest in Toyota’s lineup. Even the Camry is no exception to this rule. The manufacturer continues to offer a V6 engine for the more conservative among us, but we have to admit that the hybrid leaning of the mid-size sedan is at least worth a try.

The Can’t-Miss New Cars, Trucks, and SUVs at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show

Who wants to travel to Chicago, in February, during a snowstorm, to see what’s new in the automotive world as it’s put on display at the Windy City’s auto show? Don’t all raise your hands at once! Whether you’re not a fan of cold or couldn’t swing a flight to the Midwest, don’t worry—we’ve broken down for you the new-car debuts and other happenings of consequence from the 2020 Chicago auto show. No bundling up necessary!

2021 Chrysler Pacifica

For 2021, Chrysler has refreshed the slick Pacifica minivan, giving it sharper-edged styling that’s less rounded than before, as well as a new all-wheel-drive option. And, get this, the AWD setup doesn’t require buyers to give up Chrysler’s signature Stow ’N Go second-row seats, which can fold flat into cubbies in the floor. (When the seats are raised, the empty cubbies can be used for handy storage.) There also is a new Pinnacle trim level that overhauls the Pacifica’s interior to resemble something from a European automaker, right down to its wood trim, quilted-leather seats, and fancy stitching on the dashboard and door panels. 2020 Ford GT

Even though the Ford GT has been essentially sold out since it debuted for 2017, Ford is giving the sports car an extra 13 horsepower (for a total of 660!), more engine cooling, and a few new snazzy personalization options for 2020. Buyers can even now specify a striking, paintless carbon-fiber body or an updated orange-and-blue Gulf Racing heritage livery. Did Ford need to do any of this? 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

We’re still reeling from the Hyundai Sonata’s wild redesign for 2020, and now this? Hyundai has announced the hybrid version of the newest Sonata, and the gas-electric sedan now delivers class-leading fuel economy—while maintaining the same visual gravitas as the gas-powered Sonata. In fact, the 2020 Sonata hybrid is capable of up to 54 mpg on the highway, beating out rivals such as the Toyota Camry hybrid and Honda Accord hybrid. 2021 Jaguar F-Type

Jaguar has previously shown off its mildly restyled F-Type sports car, but the Chicago show marked its North American debut. The two-door coupe and convertible swap their previously cat-like vertical headlights for wide-set, thin horizontal elements that seem to better match the nearly unchanged taillights. Most of the lineup is now all-wheel drive, too—only the base four-cylinder P300 model offers rear drive—which is useful here in Chicago, where, you know, weather happens. 2021 Jeep Gladiator Mojave

Typical Jeep Wrangler products—its Gladiator pickup offshoot included—are all about rock-bashing and slow-speed trail work. They’re not really intended for high speed, whether on-road or off-road. The Mojave trim Jeep debuted for the 2021 Gladiator flips that stereotype on its lid. Set up for faster desert off-roading, along the same vein as the Ford F-150 Raptor and Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, the rig’s suspension benefits from remote-reservoir Fox shocks, a wider front track, and hydraulic bump stops that act as secondary shock absorbers for when the suspension is fully compressed—say, after landing a jump. Other revisions allow the four-wheel-drive’s Lo (low-range) to stay engaged up to 50 mph for sand play, 33-inch all-terrain tires, and extra ground clearance. More beautiful than ever, new Camry remains The 2019 Toyota Camry is a must-have family sedan that is difficult to compete with if you consider its reputation cast in concrete. But beware, it is a solid reputation but if you find yourself in a segment neglected by large numbers of consumers, missing for the most fertile terrain of SUVs, survival is not guaranteed.

But give back to Caesar ... Toyota has always managed to make its vehicle attractive and pleasing to the masses, and that's why you necessarily know someone around you driving a Camry. Perhaps because of market trends leaning towards utility models, the company also realized that reliability was not enough. But this latest generation of the model is really more attractive, standing out from its competition with a bolder and more athletic style than ever before. Toyota has divided its range into nine trim levels with sportier versions including the SE, XSE and XSE V6 which have a slightly different design from the rest of the range. We find on these versions a more aggressive calender, for example. Toyota also offers quieter versions with a more stretched grille as we found on the vehicle we drove, the XLE (also available in hybrid).

The Camry XLE receives a front-wheel drive system with the Traction Control System (TRAC), as well as the Navigation Package (priced at $ 2740). There's a panoramic sunroof, automatic two-zone climate control, and 18 "aluminum wheels (with the Navigation Package, or 17" wheels). This eighth generation of the Camry introduced for the first time in 2017 has been embellished and took advantage of small changes to renew its appeal, although we do not speak here of radical changes. Everything is built on Toyota's new modular platform (TNGA), which is shared with the Toyota Corolla 2020. A comfortable and well-thought-out interior The XLE version I was able to test is quite luxurious on the inside and that's where we tick when compared to the entry-level finishes which are still far less luxurious than the more expensive versions. This "luxury" design for the XLE may well be the competitive edge for the 2019 Camry. The cabin of our model was composed of an elegant beige leather which makes this Toyota inviting and comfortable.

Although we may have to complain about the dashboard that lacks some inspiration, we welcome Toyota's effort to give this general-purpose car a distinctive atmosphere and, among other things, wood finishes that the we found before only among luxury brands. The door openings are wide and the thresholds easy to cross, as one is entitled to expect from a Toyota sedan. Once seated in the cabin of the Camry space is quite generous - again, not surprising, given the main purpose of this model. The Camry remains a large sedan and its folded chest offers a large cargo space, admittedly less than some competitors, but it even gets a good rating. That's one of the reasons it sells so well. The interior is ergonomic. There are many small storage well organized to keep what you want to keep nearby like the wallet, phone and other essentials.

There are charging ports and USB connectors, but also a stereo JBL, a Wifi point, a 7.0-inch touchscreen interface Entune 3.0 for central control series and also available in improved version for the XLE and the XSE (this is called an 8.0-inch screen). Competent and fast, Entune remains a little difficult to grasp. It takes time to sort orders and we do not always find quickly what we want - which is problematic for impatient people like me. CarPlay yes, Android Auto no Among the most notable new features, there is Apple CarPlay, now includes series; unfortunately Android Auto is still not present at the time when it becomes commonplace.   Safety remains one of the most important aspects of the Camry, which remains one of the most well-equipped mid-size sedans in terms of equipment and features. Each model benefits from the Toyota Safety Sense package that includes a collision alert, automated braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with steering assistance, or adaptive cruise control. Toyota's decision to make Series Assist technologies across the range needs to be highlighted and commended.

Overall, we find in Camry XLE a surprising interior for a vehicle of this category. It is a nice cabin overall, well organized and embellished with touches of upscale carefully thought without claiming excessive luxury. The irony, however, is that its high quality makes it hard to release the basic versions, which they do a little hard ...

Mechanical and fuel consumption The XLE has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 28 horsepower and 16 lb-ft of torque compared to the outgoing model. That's good, but not as exciting as the V6's sportier version of the 301 hp model with 267 lb-ft of torque. Anyway, they are beautiful powers compared to the previous model. The engine works in conjunction with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Consumption level is found for the XLE an average of 8.5 / 6.1 / 7.4 per 100 km (city / road / combined). These figures are impressive for a sedan that does not benefit from any electrical support for the powertrain. The problem is that I never got close to this performance during my week of driving, which took place early in the spring when there were still some last traces of snow on the roads. It is true that I did a lot more urban road than highway, but still, my combined total was 9.6L / 100 km.

On the road The Camry is satisfactory for a "normal" driving without any craze or haste. The engine is economical and the transmission quite responsive to not feel it. The engine is neither noisy nor intrusive if it is spared, but out of his comfort zone it is heard. It is not as responsive as the similar power engine found in the Honda Accord, the rival of the Camry, or in the Nissan Altima. For those who prioritize the silence of the engine even during moments of aggression, they will find their happiness elsewhere. The steering is weighted although I found the brake pedal soft and a bit too sensitive for my taste, but the Sport mode makes them more powerful. The chassis raises the level of the Camry which is slightly more entertaining in the turns and the little athleticism that is found is largely due to the new platform. Several driving modes are available to the driver including Normal, Sport and Eco. We find the buttons that go from one to another just next to the gear lever. Going into Eco mode is ideal for a light and economical driving which fits perfectly to the Camry's personality. Overall, the Camry is a little stiffer and has never been so fun to drive and it keeps its reliability for everyday use. It is a sedan configured for comfort and economy, do not ask him more. It turns out that I recently had the opportunity to drive the Honda Accord Touring version, and I was amazed at how much this sedan is dynamic in its driving compared to the Camry. If you are looking for a classic family sedan, this latest Camry will be one of the best options. But if you want punch, then there ... Price Side Our XLE model costs $ 36,645, before additional charges. Prices range from $ 26,590 for the base L model and $ 41,190 for the XLE Hybrid Camry. If the performance of the Camry is a little pale compared to its more competitive competitors like the Honda Accord or the Mazda6, it remains comfortable and up to our expectations. If we ignore some mistakes, and if we take into account its largely improved exterior design, it is a real renewal for the new generation. It is therefore new horizons that open to the Camry that can now be chosen for its attractive look and not just for its legendary ratio / quality price with unparalleled reliability. Toyota Camry (1992-2017)

This post is to show how much the Toyota Camry has changed throughout its production years.

1992-1996 Toyota Camry (XV10)

For the XV10 Camrys, the models were given a major redesign from the V20 (or 1986-1991) Camrys. These models also introduced the XV generation of Camrys, opposed to the V generation of Camrys that were being sold at that time. In the 1994 model year, the Camry was given a facelift, including new headlight and taillight designs.

1997-2001 Toyota Camry (XV20)

For the XV20 edition, the Camry SE variation was temporarily dropped and replaced with the CE variation. The LE and XLE trim levels however, had carried over from the previous generation of Camrys. Larger headlights and tail lights were also included in the design, along with a grill, separate from the headlights. Beginning in the 2000 model year, the headlight, tail light, and grill designs were all updated.

2002-2006 Toyota Camry (XV30)

For the XV30 generation, the Camry released as a more larger sedan, taking inspiration from the Toyota Corolla, Solara, and Yaris (referred to as the Vitz or Belta in Japan). The CE trim level was dropped on the Camry and the SE trim was reintroduced. On top of that, the XLE trim was equipped with alloy wheels as a standard feature on all Camrys of that trim. For the 2005 model year, the Camry was refreshed with new headlights and tail lights, a new bumper design, and a refreshed interior (having a storage compartment equipped in the doors).

2007-2011 Toyota Camry (XV40)

For the 2007 model year, and the XV40 generation, the Camry mainly kept the same exterior design with only slight changes to the front and rear ends, the interior, and in the rim design. For 2010 model year, the Camry was given a slight facelift, with changes to the front and rear designs of the car.

2012-2017 Toyota Camry (XV50)

Finally for the XV50, again the bodily designed was left untouched with changes to the front and rear ends of the Camry. However, this Camry was the first in the generation lineup to not have a manual transmission and the first to introduce a Bluetooth option as a standard feature on the LE, SE and XLE trim levels. In the 2015 model year, the Camry is given a facelight with a new steering wheel design and updates to front and rear designs of the XV50, as well as the introduction of the XSE trim level.

La voiture la plus vendue aux États-Unis depuis 15 ans, la Toyota Camry est la berline familiale des masses depuis le début des années 90. Ne voulant pas réparer quelque chose qui n'était pas cassé, Toyota a gardé la formule plus ou moins la même depuis son introduction sur le marché nord-américain. Fiabilité exceptionnelle, confort spacieux et excellente économie de carburant ont toujours été la combinaison parfaite pour la plupart des gens à la recherche d'une berline de taille moyenne abordable. Cependant, la Toyota Camry n'a jamais vraiment gagné le cœur des passionnés de l'automobile, qui l'appellent souvent un véhicule de transport de personnes ennuyeux : idéal pour se déplacer de façon fiable d'un point A à un point B. Alors que la Camry 2017 équipée d'un 4-cylindres était capable d'une puissance de 178 ch et d'un couple de 170 lb-pi, le nouveau modèle 2018 à 4 pales développe 203 ch (+25) et 184 lb-pi (+14) dans les deux cas. Dans les modèles XSE, avec ses quatre sorties d'échappement, ces chiffres s'améliorent encore plus pour atteindre 206 ch et 186 lb-pi. Économie de carburant : À quoi bon si votre berline est à peu près aussi efficace qu'un gros VUS ?

Plus de puissance signifie rarement une meilleure efficacité énergétique. Encore plus rare est la combinaison de la plus grande puissance de sortie avec la meilleure économie de carburant (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || ).push({}); Alors que la Camry 4 cylindres 2017 a reçu des notes respectables de 9,8 et 7,1 L aux 100 km en ville et de 7,1 L aux 100 km sur l'autoroute, la Camry 2018 s'est considérablement améliorée par rapport à ces chiffres pour atteindre 8,1(-1,7)/5,7 L(-1,4) aux 100 km, ce qui la place parmi les 4 cylindres les moins gourmands naturellement inhalés de son segment, avec une marge raisonnable, améliorant d'autant la version de la Camry Hybrid sur route (5,7 contre 6,2). Pour ne pas être en reste par rapport à ses homologues à essence, l'économie de carburant des véhicules hybrides est passée de 6,2/5,8 L aux 100 km à 4,9(-1,3)/4,8(-1) L aux 100 km, grâce à une batterie lithium-ion plus légère et plus puissante (à la Prius) que l'on retrouve dans les versions LE. Style extérieur : Une belle berline, doit être jeune et cool, mais responsable.

Le style des Camry du passé peut toujours être décrit comme simple mais élégant. Élégamment simple, mais pour la plupart, sans histoire et facile à intégrer dans la foule. Dire que les choses ont changé avec la Camry 2018 serait un euphémisme. TNGA a transformé cette nouvelle Camry en ce qu'on pourrait facilement confondre avec une berline de luxe haut de gamme : avec une ligne de toit inclinée, de belles lignes de caractère et une position agressive. Les pneus et les jantes remplissent bien les passages de roue et vont jusqu'à 19" dans la XSE. Les phares et feux arrière à DEL automatiques de série ornent les 4 coins de la Camry, ainsi que les feux diurnes à DEL en option. En optant pour une SE ou une XSE, entre autres, vous obtenez une calandre avant sportive, des jupes latérales, un aileron arrière et deux tuyaux d'échappement pour vous différencier des modèles plus classiques LE et XLE (L représente le luxe).
