Life´s too short for weird music - Tagesempfehlung 18.03.2023

Album of the week (KW 10/23): Dutch Uncles/True Entertainement Die Dutch Uncles kommen – anders als es der Name vermuten lässt – nicht aus den Niederlande, sondern aus der heimlichen Musikhauptstadt Großbritanniens, Manchester. Mit True entertainement hat das Quartett ihr zwischenzeitlich sechstes Album seit 2008 veröffentlicht. Und True entertainement dürfte auch das beste Album der selbstbenannten „propgressive indie-pop“ Band sein. Die stärksten Momente haben die Dutch Uncles auf True entertainement immer dann wenn sie den großen Indie-Pop der Eighties aufgreifen und an Bands und Künstler/innen wie Danny Wilson oder Thomas Dolby erinnern (I´m not your Dad / In Salvia). Mit den außergewöhnlichen Gesang von Duncan Wallis haben die Dutch Uncles ein echtes Alleinstellungsmerkmal. Und doch leistet sich das Quartet den Luxus Anna Prior (Metronomys singende Schlagzeugerin) und Jonathan Higgs (Everything Everything) zur gesanglichen Unterstützung einzuladen. Herausgekommen ist ein 10 Popperlen umfassendes Album ohne größere Schwächen. Und das ist vielleicht die einzige Schwäche von True entertainement – es fehlen dann ein bisschen die absoluten Highlights oder Banger. Vielleicht ragt neben dem Ihnen bereits offerierten Titelsong True entertainement (Tagestipp 25.10.2022) ragt das Stück Tropigala (2 to 5) ein bisschen heraus. Hier erinnert der Sound ziemlich frapant an die besten Veröffentlichungen von Edwyn Collins Band Orange Juice. Eine Warnung allerdings zum Schluss: der facettenreiche Electro Indie Pop der Dutch Uncles offenbart sich oftmals erst bei genauerem Hinhören – geben Sie also True entertainement die Zeit, die es braucht und Sie werden ausreichend belohnt.
