S5 Ep 50: Tristan Hates Horses, I Think

Been a while! Tumblr’s annoying as hell changes to the text editor took a lot of wind out of my sails, ngl. It had some problems they're resolving as they go, but it was really annoying to use and to edit if you write any amount of youknow……words….

And I was talking to a friend about this, and they were like “have you tried writing it in google docs and copy pasting it after?” And I happily realized when you copy paste from google docs, it also copies the PICTURES. This has literally saved hours of my life, y'all. It has turned something that was so frustrating I didn't want to open tumblr again into something that is no longer an obstacle so I can write once more!

So lets travel to Yugi’s brain, where Tristan desperately has to make up for all the work he hasn’t done because he was just a wee tiny bit possessed.

It may be hard to pick up where Tristan is on this picture, and I hope I recorded it somewhere in OBS like 2 months ago when I finished the series because it was such a funny animation, but hot damn this boy has hops.

And  you can see him there on the ground in the bottom left corner, that isn’t a rock, that’s Tristan having toppled a man with his bare hands, a man who had a sword and was sitting on an armored horse.

Can you believe this guy ran for school president? And then lost and humbly became the janitor?

Meanwhile, Joey discovered magic.

Confirmation that duel disks are made out of old tank parts.

Realizing for the first time that magic exists, they decide to peace out.

Back in the real world, Mokuba and Roland don’t know where the hell Seto went. Which is weird, I figured Seto would at least leave a note or a text message or…anything…but apparently even if he did, he just disappeared at some point down in Marik’s old living room.

So Roland and Mokuba decided that in order to find him, they would have to take a massive Boeing 747 to find their lost child.

Some kids have a motorcycle, some kids have a scooter, Mokuba just wants the most boring ass big commercial plane that is meant to sit a couple hundred people in an awkward way. That’s what Mokuba wants.

Just Mokuba things.

My bro who edits these for me wrote in huge ass letters "ROLAND SIGHTING" While saying "ROLAND ROLAND ROLAND" so I want y'all to know how much we appreciate a good Roland in this house.

Speaking of, I know it's like season 5 but...who is the other guy? He wears funny sunglasses but I have never heard his name, not once.

But this is when the plane was filled with heavenly light.

They begin to see the fight happening between Seto Kaiba (the OG Seto, the one that is cool and isn’t depressed because his not-wife died) and Bakura (who is now Zorc). Don’t ask me how the time stuff works, and why we see it now of all the times in human history, and right over Egypt in the sky. Don’t ask me why.

I assume it’s time compression shenanigans, just like FF8, so maybe it’s just every moment in time is able to see this UFO in the sky, but overall, it’s here because it looks cool. The fact that this right here is actually not a physical place, but is actually a figment of Yugi’s imagination shaped by Pharaoh’s botchy memories--is neither here nor there. Instead, it’s everywhere. 

Seto is unimpressed by this, because he knows how science and timelines should work, and this wouldn’t pass Kaiba Corp inspection.

Back at the yellow palace made of cheese and mario blocks, Pharaoh is still knocked out from that time he summed all 3 dragons last episode, which to me feels like just eons ago. 

But it’s OK, he’s fine now.

Typically he’d be dead, because his dragons died on the battlefield and their life force is connected to their monsters. But not only is Pharaoh 1.) already dead and 2.) the author of this universe and cannot die or this universe ceases to exist he’s 3.) got the puzzle, which means he can’t actually perma die, unlike everyone else in his court who is perma-gone.

He is not surprised by what is currently happening in Egypt’s downtown strip.

This is probably every day in Domino. Every day Seto Kaiba wakes up everyone in town with his three-headed dragon princess just because he can. Hell, Seto was doing this fight with Bakura on the top towers of Domino just this morning (or last morning…not sure if time passes in real life the same way it does in puzzle life)

The audacity of Yami right now, the one moment Yugi isn’t there to scream about ledges, this boy is leaping joyfully off that ledge. 

He fuses with the dragon which gives him this familiar outfit.

I thiiiiink it’s the same outfit as Alexander season? I’ll be real with you though, I don’t really want to look it up. Either way, good to see the return of putting on a ton of armor in a card game, I don't think we've seen it Canonically since that one time Joey did it against Valon, and ever since then, Joey kind of forgot it was a thing he can just do.

But unlike Joey, Yami doesn’t take the opportunity to punch Zorc in the face, instead he just loses yet another time.

This time he didn’t even pass out, he barely even died. This is progress, truly.

But as Zorc is powering up the peepee missile to fire in Yami’s face (what a way to die!), Shadi has decided to inform us why he’s been stalking these kids for this entire show.

So there’s two ways to read this. 1.) Shadi was Hassan the entire time but had to go back in time from this moment in order to do it or 2.) Shadi possessed the power of Hassan last second so Yami could avoid death one final time.

Both of these explanations don’t fully make sense to me, I’ll be honest, because in order to know that he’ll be needed in the first place, Shadi had to know that Yami would die at this particular moment--a moment that is a different timeline than has ever existed before.

So really, Shadi was just going by a hunch. He was like “I dunno, I’ll see how this goes.” which is more in line with the Shadi we know and love.

Is it a crying shame that Shadi, who has been with us for so many seasons, and it so integral to this show had such an unceremonious death? Yeah. I feel like I didn’t quite get the closure I wanted but I’m also sort of confused as to…what happened. But I’ll leave it there because apparently we get more Shadi content in Dark Side of Dimensions.

Anyway, I have no idea if these images will even fit into a post with how how tumbler does posts nowadays, and I'll be real I had to re upload the last bit of it, which I suspect was over 15 images???? Not sure??? but we found a workaround! google docs works!

Also, Seto didn’t die today! Instead it was Shadi! For a SECOND time!

I cannot believe how freakin lucky Mana is, this girl is still kicking and if Mana survives everything I am…going to be astonished, that’s what. Mana secretly OP, who knew?

These are based off of instructions I was given as I was drawing. I'm going to share some of the descriptions I was given so you know why several of these are barely recognizable (if at all). Chikorita: -draw a potato -add a stick coming off the top, add a tear drop shape leaf on top -give the potato four legs -put a little OwO face on the inside top of the potato

Metang: -draw a UFO -give it muscular arms with three claws on the ends -add spikes by the arms -give it eyes in the top part of the UFO and a nose like a carrot, but it isn't a carrot Jigglypuff: -draw a circle -that's it (first guessed it was supposed to be voltorb but then remembered "jigglypuff from above")

Carkol: -draw a bath tub and give it four legs -fill the bathtub with squares -add a circle head behind the squares and give it eyes and a turtle mouth -give the bathtub a rock texture

Varoom: -draw a bumpy rectangle -draw circles at the bottom that overlap the rectangle -give it a big eye over one circle -draw a horn that with the smaller end by the eye -add a big diagonal rectangle with black stripes above the other circle and make it go off of the rectangle (I had no idea what this was supposed to be even after finishing it)

Tympole, chikorita, excadrill, and lickilicky I was able to guess before finishing the drawings. Took creative liberties on some of the faces since my friends were not being descriptive about the facial details.

hi, this is me ari.

you’ll have seen that i deactivated my accounts, both my main and my personal. i ran away from everything as fast as i could which was cowardly, and i don’t expect forgiveness at all, but this is an attempt at exposing everything. please share with everyone who read the fics and/or interacted with me.

in november 2021, i opened up ufo-ikawa. i had originally started with writing my own works, because i just wanted to write and join a fandom i really liked— then it snowballed. i have always felt my own writing was bad, and could never live up to others so i did what any pathetic person would do. i stole works from people who’s writing i admired and wanted to be like. (i also had another blog onigiri-mia which was deactivated due to death threats i was receiving daily regarding old drama, and stolen works were also posted there). instead of gaining inspiration, and reaching out to the writers themselves for any meaninful conversations on how to learn to write, i stole them, rewrote them and claimed them as my own.

and as i did, i slowly started to believe in everything i was saying or doing. i did it so much i felt like i was performing an act whenever i did and convinced myself that it was right. in real life, i am just a person who wanted attention so bad, to be liked so bad, to be part of something that i did one of the worst things just to gain it. i guess in a way, identity theft, and then plagiarism.

which i know is absolutely wrong of me. i have also reached out to the creators separately and said my apologies, except for nine3rds who i have been unable to message. i can’t make them accept any apologies and i take 100% accountability, and it doesn’t lessen any guilt i have now that the truth is out or all the wrongs i did, but i thought that was the first step.

the second step is owning up to it and cutting through all the bullshit lies i’ve told myself. this year, one of my goals was to achieve something good for myself. idk about you, but i truly do believe in karma. i will of course get it no doubt, because of all the bad i’ve put out, but i’m also hoping that by being honest and righting my wrongs that even if i’m at rock bottom right now, i can still start somehow. not relevant but something i just wanted to say.

i just wanted to apologise to everyone who i’ve talked to here personally or formed close friendships with. it’s hard to believe me, but just know that when we were talking about our lives that was all real and not fake. i am still just a person, a shitty one at that, but those irl experiences and thoughts i talked about were real. I’m genuinely so sorry for deceiving you in some way. i will never interact again, i will stay off of this site for good, and i will also never try to write and post anything again, so i hope u get some peace of mind out of that. i’ve tried to apologise as best as i could to the close friends i made on discord— i have also disabled that account to let them see, and will eventually be deleting it. thank you for talking to me and making me laugh and just listening to me, even if i didn’t deserve it.

if you’re angry at me and resent me, i completely understand and will not try to speak further. i’ve tried my best to explain it all above, but i won’t open my asks because i hope this post explains it all enough. you can say anything you’d like under this post if it helps.

i’ve deactivated my account but i know the fics stay there so please delete any reblogs and unlike any fic. i am genuinely sorry for deceiving everybody for selfish reasons (that absolutely do not excuse anything). i have a lot of work to put into myself to try and fix things, but i hope this is a start.

The Arcade Games Of 1980 #10 - Space Cyclone

Hope everyone has had a great holiday season so far. I know I did, I got so many fun gifts and some incredible news to go alongside with it! Though it also, unfortunately, kinda meant my retro gaming passion was pushed to the side a little bit in favor of my other ones. Still, I wanna finish the job, so have a 4 day marathon of the final games I need to cover!

Space Cyclone is quite possibly one of the least played games by anyone on this entire globe. Only released in minimal quantities when the market was already filled to the brim with space shooters (I haven't even covered a lot of other ones like Space Firebird and Phoenix), and then went without rerelease untill *2020* with the super expensive Space Invaders Invincible Collection. Doubt more than a couple thousand actually got to check this out in either legitimate way. Pretty surreal.

Now, was it deserved for this game to essentially become an urban legend for 40 years? Naahhhh, I don't think so. This game STILL uses the Space Invaders board, well over 2 years after the original was launched, so it's definitely looking a bit long in the tooth. THAT SAID, I would argue that it pushes the hardware and looks genuinely decent, especially the larger enemy sprites. If anything, it reminds me of the early space games made for the Super Cassette Vision.

As for how it plays, well, it's a more complex Space Invaders. Shocking, I know. You got these alien dudes that descend by doing flips in mid air, and can land on space rocks if they're feeling patient and you don't shoot them in time. If they hit the bottom, they add onto a big space monster that eventually unleashes upon you and shoots lasers that are very hard to avoid. There's also UFOs and another creature that can do similar things, so it's just got me wondering what the point of that is. It runs really smoothly even if I find it a bit duff to actually play. Still, it isn't dramatically worse or better than most of it's compatriots. It's fiiine.

The Verdict

Graphics (8): Less dated for a 1978 board than you would except. There's some big boy multicolor sprites in there. Also included are genuine cutscenes that seem to emphasise being funny, I believe there's 4 of them total which is impressive. What also impressed me is how speedy the game seems to run. I don't think Space Invaders was sluggish per say, but it felt as if Taito was entirely comfortable with this specific hardware at this point and could do miracle work while ensuring nothing would lag. Especially with the spaceship. That one flies over the screen. The aliens themselves are a little lacking in framerate which DOES make them harder to shoot sometimes. Unfortunate. Doesn't take away from the fact it's an A for effort.

Sound (8): The clearest voice clips and most intense explosion noises yet. It's good. The aliens sound like a posh man giving you a friendly announcement that they are, in fact, coming. So funny. Not a lot to say here, and that's a plus- we've come a long way from my ears being blasted by Moon Cresta. Once again, some Super Cassette Vision vibes right here.

Fun Factor (6): The slick control feeling doesn't mean the game is all that fun. It's slightly above average, if that. I guess it's neat Taito figured out new types of enemies that shoot with big lasers- that's sorta new, as is the way the aliens can get halted by the asteroids. For the rest though... it sure is another space shooter. If you're a fan of this kinda game, by all means, it's solid, but I found myself to be done with it a little bit in.

Longevity (6): If you give yourselves the maximum amount of lives, you're gonna be done with this one in no time flat. The game barely makes any effort in giving you new mechanics, and peaks at level 6. It's a minor improvement over prior Taito games, but i'd hardly call it very durable. Starting with 3 lives is a bit more of a challenge, so you could squueze some time out of trying to reach beyond the stars there, I suppose.
